The Bay also had two ⚾️ Giants and A's "San Francisco" is a small place, but "The Bay Area" is the overall metro area of San Francisco. So Oakland A's count (like the Angels down in OC count for L.A.)
Since you ventured out to the Inland Empire you missed 3 minor league ballparks, San Manuel Stadium, LoanMart Field and Lake Elsinore Diamond. Also could've included Auto Club Speedway in Fontana.
The baseball field at Pepperdine may have one of the best backdrops in sports. It’s in the Malibu hills and the ocean takes up center field. Worth a visit.
The attention to detail was unique. Loved the attention to Junior college and college facilities in the area. There will always be oversights because of how many arenas and ballparks there are when you start counting junior colleges and colleges as a whole, but the only 'true' oversight for me was the Pyramid in Long Beach. Probably the most unique looking arena I've come across that has hosted everything in it's history.
Dodger Stadium is my favorite stadium in the whole world. With its majestic setting in the Chavez Ravine, outfield view of San Gabriel Mountains, DTLA on the other side, always perfect weather, the most beautiful grass. I remember as a kid moving to Los Angeles from Toronto Canada, and my dad taking me to "The Ravine" for the first time. Just walking out, and seeing that beautiful field, I didn't ever want to leave. OMG what great memories. Rest in peace Dad.
I'm a Toronto area guy myself. I'll always have a spot in my heart for the Dome but it's just a beautiful parking garage. I've been by Dodger stadium, but not in. I can only imagine that it would feel like watching a game on the moon compared to Toronto. (Actually, the other way around lol)
@@eshep71 I have been to the Sky Dome now called Rogers Centre, its actually not to bad when the roof is open, but I prefer several other ball parks to it. As a kid from Toronto in the 60's, my trips to Dodger Stadium were like paradise on earth.
pico rivera ahaha, I almost bought that arena to make it into a basketball/ other events back in 2012 when I was 24. I did get the LA kiss ( arena football) to host practices at whittier college and was going to play for them. Whittier college has a very nice stadium but no more football.
Citrus Stadium has a spectacular view of the San Gabriel Mountains. I covered a football game there about eight years ago, and I can attest to the steep pitch of the seats; absolutely brutal on my shins. It was also home to Azusa Pacific University (NCAA D2) football until a couple of years ago when APU dropped the program as a result of the pandemic.
@@TheMrPeteChannel Most people in LA are sheep. Trust me, I live here. Lol. The new Clippers Intuit Dome opening in 2024 is going to make Crypto look like old news. I can’t wait. I’m a season ticket holder.😎
Well done video, thank you. It's a fact of 21st century life most major city's in North America have multiple stadium/arena venues which at times receive only sporadic use. For some here in Toronto Canada, only two have regular MLB, NHL and NBA tenants, with big concerts seldom performed at Rogers Stadium.
Nice video. The LA Coliseum hosted a Nascar exhibition race earlier this year. It was a nice transformation, thought the racing lacked competitiveness.
Amazing details. As a LA Metro native, I was just expecting to see the pro team stadiums and USC/UCLA. I appreciate the love for all the non major college programs like Long Beach, Fullerton, etc. And sports other than football, baseball, soccer, basketball. Also appreciate the arenas not in use by pro teams like Ontario Arena and Long Beach arena The Pyramid in Long Beach would've been cool though!
I miss the old LA Sports Arena (where Banc of California Stadium). The last few years of it's life, it became a dope rave location. Monster Massive and Together As One. That place also had a cool lower plaza area with lots of trees and grass where my friends and I would chill and smoke pot. Fun times.
5:34 I went to see a Guns N' Roses/Skid Row concert in the summer of 1991 when it was called "Great Western Forum" and it was blue. Thank you for this video and describing each of the facilities. Every arena and stadium truly has its own unique personality, look and vibe. Too bad the Los Angeles Sports Arena is no longer around for you to have covered. That was a nice arena, almost as big as the Inglewood Forum.
Cool thing about the Chapman stadium is that they have all the student and public parking for the school underneath the stadium because of the size constraints as well! Triple layered
This is a very fascinating vid. With LA28 coming up, most ALL of these venues will be used with some upgrades. Only thing out of pocket taxpayers will lay out for is security.
The Bette Midler movie "The Rose" was filmed at Long Beach Veterans Stadium. The stadium appears in the background of McDonnell Douglas aircraft rollouts, where the plane was led by a pipe band, as it's close to the plant.
I have enjoyed your channel for a while. As a SoCal, I was excited to watch this video. Thank you for doing it. It was wonderful. Love the inclusion of JC football stadiums. You should have seen the old L.A. Sports Arena, next to the Coliseum, which was torn down to build Banc of California Stadium. That old place was a dump!!! Ugly from the day it was opened!! They lost the Lakers, Kings, USC basketball, and the Clippers. Your droll Aussie accent would have been awesome disssecting it. Keep up the great work and please do a video on Big West basketball arenas!!!
Nice video! There are a couple other noteworthy sporting venues in the region however such as Championship Soccer Stadium and Fivepoint Arena in Irvine, Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, Irwindale Speedway in Irwindale, Auto Club Dragstrip in Pomona, Santa Anita Park in Arcadia, Velocenter (velodrome) in Carson, Pico Rivera Sports Arena in Pico Rivera, Indian Wells Tennis Stadium in Palm Springs, Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, and Intuit Dome is under construction next to Sofi Stadium in Inglewood
the field right next to pauley pavilion hosted an aussie rules football game back in 2006 (which i was at supporting North Melbourne). happy that they won too.
That one stadium with the pool next to it reminds me that you should do a video on the largest aquatic center’s in North America (possibly the world too). I believe Greensboro Aquatic Center and Triangle Aquatic Center would likely make this list as the Greensboro Aquatic Center hosts 53 lanes in short course configuration (or 39 lanes with primary pool in long course configuration) and the Triangle Aquatic Center hosts 55 lanes in short course configuration (or 32 lanes with 2 of the pools in long course configuration).
Fun video as always! I only drive to LA from Seattle once a year to see family but I went to 2 from the list with family while visiting. Hope to visit SoFi some day.
I grew up not far from Dodger stadium...I -5 was at the end of my street... Lifetime RAM fan! Was working at Sea--Tac and went to a playoff game up there against The Redskins... Very loud....
I haven't been to an MLB game since the 2002 World Series Game 7 at Angel's Stadium. I'm a Dodgers fan and was there working the concession stands, but I do remember thinking how clean and spiffy it was compared to Dodgers Stadium which was quite run down at the time. This video has made me want to go back to Dodgers Stadium and see what it looks like now that it has gone through several refurbishments.
I was driving through Pasadena about 10 years ago and by chance found myself at the Rose Bowl, so I stopped to look around. At ground level, it’s not that impressive because so much of it is sunken below ground level. When you drive around it, you get the idea of just how big it really is because the perimeter/circumference goes on for what feel like forever. It is a classic!
It used to be Citizens Bank Arena until one of the near by Toyota's bought naming rights and added a ton of renovation and we now have the specular Toyota Arena
Awesome to see all these stadiums in my hometown. I've been to 7 of them and there's a lot of them that I haven't even heard of. I stayed in a hotel next to the long beach arena and had no idea that it was an arena 😂. One smaller college stadium that you missed that is similar to the Santa Ana one is LeBard Stadium of Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa (might not be in "LA" to be fair). It has a similar design but it has a nice building behind one end zone.
You forgot the Walter Pyramid at Cal State Long Beach. It's a unique venue (literally 1 of only 4 pyramids in all of the US) that does more than college basketball. Lmu's gersten arena . Velo sports center which is attached to dignity and health. Pepperdine has some nice but basic sports venues. Crawford hall in Irvine has a unique futurism architecture. The Felix center in azusa. Industry hills expo center. Orange Pavillion in San Bernardino (ironic its not in orange county). The equidome in burbank. Pico Rivera sports arena which does lots of rodeo. I would say the Pomona fairplex but thats more of flat fairground with nothing huge. Also the Microsoft theater across the street from crypto arena is one of the biggest indoor stages in the US
Yep, and since he showed El Camino and Pierce, he missed Southwest College stadium in my old neighborhood. They have had a few Junior College Championship games there.
Some you missed LoanMart Field home of the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes Dodgers minor league team, also the Pyramid in Long beach, Irwindale Speedway, Santa Anita Race track, stubhub center (formerly Home Depot Center) and the Intuit Dome the new big arena,
Impressed with the "Inland Empire" reference/awareness... But you missed the Indian Wells Tennis Stadiums. 16k and 8k capacity, in "the I.E.", way out near Palm Springs (but technically in the Greater metro area of L.A.) Also impressed with inclusion of ELAC's stadium (never knew its proper name).
@@raidger4 That's not the only criteria. Typically, an entire county is included (or excluded)... Riverside and San Bernardino stretch to Eastern border.
@@davidday2373 I live in San Jacinto, so I know how big San Bernardino and Riverside Counties are. To the east of me is Mt San Jacinto which is a natural divide between regions, and once you get past Cabazon there’s a little break until you hit the greater Coachella Valley.
Another thought, unless I missed it, was Cal State Northridge basketball arena-I believe it is the site of the All Valley from Karate Kid! Also, probably too long for one video, but because of its setting I’m guessing Pepperdine University in nearby Malibu has some pretty cool stadiums. Nice video!!
The two stadiums (which share a plaza area for concessions, restrooms, and entrance/exit) held simultaneous events one night earlier this year (MLS and boxing). That's rare. I wondered if they were testing logistics operations ahead of the Olympics.
The first stadium, Santa Ana stadium, is home to Mater Dei, Mexico has played there and Golden boy has hosted boxing events. At one point was gonna be home to Chivas USA and expanded and is home to multiple high school graduations every year. This place is awesome
I don't know if it's true that they had to move a lot of earth to build Dodger Stadium, but they definitely had to move a lot of people out of the area.
6:24 actually a lot of fight do take place at this tennis stadium, its known as the punch bowl (cool double entendre) and pretty iconic venue in the boxing world
Surprised to see so many of the college stadiums on here. I personally wouldn't count some of them among the ranks of the big boys. Does Shepard Stadium even host anything anymore? I have never in my life heard of Pierce College actually having a football team. I mean, I know it did and I have SEEN the stadium from my time attending Pierce, but to me it always looks abandoned. Idk. Just a little weird to see something like that posted up next to the Rose Bowl or Dodger Stadium. Some college venues make sense - again, like the Rose Bowl, Coliseum, and even Drake Stadium, but the little community college ones... Idk.
Great video as always! I'd love to see a follow up regarding 2028 Los Angeles Olympic venues... So amped to see the city host the games for the third time. Followed by Brisbane!!! Incidentally I just went to a sold out Aqua concert last week... At the Sasktel Center in Saskatoon... Not quite the attendance record THERE but back home in Edmonton? Yes! Fastest sell out of a casino entertainment venue in the cities history and they've sold DIAMOND level status in Canadaland... Go figure! Another weird quirk about our land of bisexual stoners... They love Euro-dance too! ;-)
You missed Jackie Robinson Stadium at Pasadena City College. It has football, track and the Tournament of Rose Band Fest. Pasadena also has Robinson Field which is a baseball field in Brookside Park near the Rose Bowl. It was once a site for Chicago Cubs spring training. There is also the "Pyramid" Basketball Stadium at Long Beach State. Pasadena and Long Beach are in L. A. County while Anaheim and San Bernardino are not.
