@@trentswag9324 deadass just went thru that predicament swapping my bmw 330i engine out. sleeping on the floor of my dads warehouse, spending 24+ hours straight on a weekend just on my bmw and having to work my real job 6 days a week 10 hours a day lol, and ofc forgetting a mf ground cable and realizing that the one fucking engine coolant inlet hose that i didn’t think of replacing now needs replacing hahaha. but the learning curve was worth it. im glad the relacement engine runs good and it was my first ever swap lol. old engine had 200k miles on it and decided it didnt need oil pressure lmao
dude everytime i install anything on my car it takes me wayy too long and i run into another problem i gotta fix😂 good shit for you getting that, thats a hard thing
And then I also have to fix the things I broke or forgot while doing all that. But the older I get, the more I learn. It's fun and now I know roughly how stupid I am.
@@austingutierrez2709 Mate I've been there. Later in life I discovered I had ADHD and now I find it easier and more fun to take the time to understand what I am doing. Plus I sorted through all my crap and have a surprisingly handy collection of tools etc. Most of which I now know how to find. Strange days.,
I am a fourth year mechanic apprentice and it took me this long to realise: When working on a car, mistakes will happen, learn from them and improve upon that mistake Happens to everyone my dude, it's part of the learning experience 👍
Wow I’m proud of you bro more people need to take after you and own up for there mistakes but this is also a very informative video so people don’t make these same mistakes
That's the beauty of being a car guy. You'll mess up and mess up, and in the end, you'll have more experience than doing it the right way. I personally don't like miatas because I'm a Pontiac Solstice owner but hey, that's an accomplishment putting a turbo in yourself! Nice work
Videos like this are honestly great. It shows that people shouldn't be afraid cause mistakes happen to all of us. So no, you don't belong in the dumpster, you belong at the top for admitting that you didn't do everything perfectly
No worries bud, you did great. In a weekend solo, (subtle flex but okay) I did the engine replacement on my Speed3 (bought with blown engine)on the first start, the only thing I missed was a power steering line. Felt amazing. Still have the video of the start. You can hear my wife freak out because she didnt know what it was lol.
I don’t make fun of people for attempting something. At least you tried. You can always learn something new. At one point every master tech or engine builder knew nothin about cars
Bro torquing down that water pump pulley is a fine art, I broke 2 of the 3 bolts off last time I did it 🤷♂️ next guys gonna have a hard time figuring that out
From memory, early MX5's use a VAF sensor, not a MAF sensor. A VAF (with the spring loaded flap) measures intake air volume. Where as a MAF (heated wire) measures the mass of the intake air. And what did you do about extra fuel? Without a retune, it will run lean under boost. And even if you tune the ECU, you can only run low boost without upgrading the injectors and fuel pump. But with enough fuel, you should be able to run around 12psi without blowing up the engine. Should be good for 200hp.
Nothing can be worse then the time my stubborn ass spent 4 hours on a single bolt. Never got it out. Ended up just replacing the whole part instead of the part of the part.
I installed a Subaru turbo on my mr2 spyder without a kit. I’m no mechanic barely have any tools, got it done in my driveway and am tuning it myself and got 0 help from anyone including forums. My only mistake was not installing new coil packs because the stock coil packs were old and not up to the task of forced induction which kept blowing out the spark under high load.
In all fairness, the Exhaust leaks, loose grounds, and whatnot happen when things expand. Fortunately, once re tightened, all should be well from that point on.
I did that exact same thing right in front of my buddy who was gonna buy the car the same day shortly after i replaced the water pump. He backed out of the deal because we thought i blew the thing up, sounded like the worst spun bearing possible
Yeah I bought mine and it didn’t have a torqued water pump pulley. Belt fucked off in the end and almost tore the pulley clean off, that was a new belt, pulley, pump and timing belt (by a garage) 18 months later the timing belt stripped so new pump and belt time. 12 months later the crankshaft seals shit itself (I wanted to change it when doing the timing belt the first time but couldn’t get the woodruff key out to save my life and I was hurrying to get it ready for doing the NC500. So it’ll be getting another water pump and timing belt. It’ll have had 4 different pumps and belts in as many years
It’s honestly not easy to add a turbo to a car that is na. Lost of planing needs to be done. The mechanical side of things aren’t to bad, but the tuning aspect can do downhill quick! Props to u.
Bro you should totally be proud of the turbo i stall and the job you did. if you didn't make a couple mistakes... I would have said you're lying. Everybody makes mistakes. And if you don't make a couple mistakes and everything seems to go perfect.... then you'll be driving down the road and then it'll happen at the worst possible time.
Is this your shop? As in, a business you own? Just from the background, it looks like a place of business. If those are things you do and it was recent and you've been around awhile, your probably doing that regularly. Thanks for sharing. I won't be going there for service! LOL...I don't want to see bubble gum as sealant, or a wood lag bolt replacing a cylinder head bolt or bailing wire holding my exhaust.
Imagin slapping something that'll overwork the engine and not checking a single other thing. You even passed good for doing just a turbo install without doing some math before and checking other components but hey sometimes the turbo dies. Natural selection u know
That doesn't seem bad at all. I've never installed something fun on a car. Every time I'm working on my car it's replacing something that broke. I'd probably make a bunch of stupid mistakes being excited.
Nice bro! What are you running for engine management? I got an NB2 also with the VVT 1.8 and the only options I’ve found are super expensive compared to the non-VVT Miata. Engine management is gonna be the priciest part of my build besides my $1,400 Wilwood/Flyin’ Miata big brake kit.
Biggest mistake you made was not just buying a Porsche with a turbo pre-installed at the factory 🤣 sorry that's my Porsche-aholic side making fun of miata's in general 😄 nice work.
If you call those "mistakes" please go talk to the semi pro racer guys. Ever seen a "money shot" my neighbor used to be a drag racer. He told me brand new billet all tranny , they forget a solenoid of some sorts . He was talking about a part that cost literally nada. They blew that entire tranny to kingdom come first pull.. thousands of damage. I think you're doing more than fine with a loose ground and a pulley not being tensioned right 😆
what ecu do you have? i deleted my MAF with a Haltec oh and a list of my mistakes.... - fuel leaking, forgot to buy new injector adaptor for fuel rail - Forgot to install injector seals (in the intake) so more leaking fuel.... - Wrong hoses for turbo cooling - Forgot to block EGR pipe (huge vac leak) - Cut and welded my cast heater hose triple outlet wrong 3 times before i actually mock fitted and measured it (costed me almost $300 in total) - didnt tighten oil filter relocation (leaking mega oil) mines 2 months not running and still counting
