Today we take a look at the worst uniforms in Major League Baseball from the tragedy of Player's Weekend 2019, to dead trends, and even the lack of creativity. My Twitter: / windycityleague My TikTok: www.tiktok.com/@windycityleag...
Thought another jersey should’ve made it here? Check out this follow-up where I look at the uniforms some of you said should’ve been listed: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lD7da_0pD-I.html
Ironically, although the Seattle Pilots had the MLB Logo on their Road Uniforms, their Home Uniforms did not have the MLB Logo making them the only team to not have the MLB Logo on both Home and Away.
The Orioles Brail uniform was for a good cause. There was a young man named Mo Gaba who was a huge Baltimore sports fan. And it was done to bring awareness. If you're gonna say they have a set of bad uniforms, the all orange they wore looked like softball uniform.
yeah they aren’t bad but we just used way too much black if we toned down the black i think it would look good. In my opinion we should only use black on an alternate like the city connect because people know us as the reds.
I think the Mets black jerseys are nice as hell. Also it means as a whole they have all 4 colors of the ex New York teams. Giants black and orange, and dodgers white and blue. I like it
The Astros City uniform may not be a hit, but the cap is sharp. Someone asked George Steinbrenner why the Yankees didn't wear throw forward uniforms, he said they were.
The White Sox uniforms were the idea of Bill Veeck when he bought the team (for the 2nd time) in December 1975. The shorts were only worn 3 times. There was a pad rolled into the tops of the socks that was supposed to protect the legs when sliding.
The Cardinals gray with the Navy Blue Caps, especially when worn with red undershirts/sleeves, is their BEST look, bar-none. It's not depressing. It's an homage to their past. It's a glorious contrast of the iconic colors from Cardinals history, Red and Navy. It's also a great way to delineate Home and Road games. They screwed the fans out of having them as the full-time road caps in 2013, and most of their road games have looked like garbage since. The red hats do brighten to road uniform up, and it looks like shit because it's TOO bright of a red to go with the gray. Long Live the Navy Road Caps! The red caps with the gray uniforms belong to the era of Sans-a-Belt Pants and Double Knit Pullover Jerseys. Gross.
BEST uniforms: * 1970s Minnesota Twins * 1974 Houston Astros * 1975-78 Boston Red Sox * 1977-84 Toronto Blue Jays * 1978-82 San Diego Padres * 1973-82 Kansas City Royals * 1969-71 Washington Senators * 1972-80 Texas Rangers * 1969-78 Montreal Expos
I'm with you. I only wear my Navy Blue hat. I have a regular Red one. But living in Georgia. I get called a Dawg fan by people who only see my back. I just think the Blue hats look sharp. I'll never change on the subject.
I agree with most opinions in this video, but i strongly disagree about the yellow and green A’s unis. They had so many great players and World Series appearances in these uniforms that theyre classic
Mets black uniforms are great and are loved by most Mets fans and are also pretty popular among non-mets fans. I don't see how this is your choice for the Mets. I think there are some actual horrible candidates like the 2013-14 orange "Los Mets" uniform or the camo jerseys from 2014-2015. Also the 1999 "Mercury Mets" jerseys. The mid 90s uniforms with the swoosh under the "mets" script isn't objectively bad but did not work with the Mets the way it does with the dodgers and other teams.
@@vicepresidentmikepence889 The Mets honor 3 historic New York baseball teams, the New York metropolitans of the 1800’s, the giants and the dodgers. The giants used black and orange, it incorporates the colors of the dodgers and giants.
Weirdly there's something charming about bad uniforms sometimes idk why, whenever I see an iconic moment (in modern times) with a bad uniform it makes it even more iconic. Great video! This channel will get big, I know it. Keep it up
Actually, the Blue Jays original cap and jerseys did integrate the maple leaf with the bird, and I think they brought it back. They do have an alternate cap that's red and white with a big, red maple leaf on the front.
ya the original did have the leaf but the one he was talking about with black jerseys and the cartoony bird didn't have the leaf integrated into the actual bird logo just on the sleeve. I was never a fan of the cartoon bird but it was better than the one with the big T with the bird looking around it with muscular arms, that whole jersey look was bad, I think it was worn ar the time Canseco played with them. The current logo version is basically the classic original and has an even bigger maple leaf but doesn't have the baseball in the background like the 70s-80's version. A much better logo
It’s funny, I actually attended the game where the Yankees/Dodgers wore their player’s weekend uniforms. If I remember correctly, Judge even hit a HR in my seat section and I was on the highlights. It was also fireworks night at Dodger stadium after the game so with the odd jerseys, the HR, the fireworks, easily the most interesting game I’ve ever attended 😂😂
The all white and all black players’ weekend uniforms were so boring because MLB wanted to let the players’ personalities shown rather than the uniforms. I hated that idea, I loved the little league World Series vibe that the players’ weekend jerseys before that gave off
I think the Twins' road unis from the late '80s looked sharp. I miss it a lot. As for the insignias on primary away and home unis, I've never understood this notion that the away jersey has to have the geographic identifier while the home jersey must have the nickname. It's not that deep to me. The Dodgers and Rays having their nickname on their home and road tops and the Marlins having their geographic identifier on their tops never bothered me. In this day and age, the whole baseball world's watching regardless of what's on the jersey.
As a Jays fan, I tried to like the new look when it was unveiled. Looking back, I don't think the logo itself was awful. If the team had run with that shade of blue instead of emphasizing the black and gray, I think it could have worked out. That said, I'm glad they dropped it in favor of a slightly more modern look to the original logo.
@@scottcarter6623 like I said, I think if they had emphasized the blue in that logo instead of the black and gray, I think we’d all have a much different opinion of it. It wasn’t the logo so much that sucked, it was the colors.
I have always liked the Sox "softball" uniforms. They were a radical departure from what the other teams were wearing, the blue tops and white pants made a fetching combo, the lettering was nostalgic and attractive and the cap was an instant classic. The worst Sox uniforms during my fandom were the two that followed: the "license plate" '82 to '86 --why they still wear them at home on Sundays boggles my mind--and the "blander than bland" uniform from '87 to '90. Had the surprising '90 team worn a better looking uniform, maybe they would have captured the pennant. ^^
1) I had never realized how classy the Cardinals' uniforms are in general. 2) I am a Mets fan, and I do not like the black uniforms at all. Orange and blue (and white, of course) are enough to create a visual identity. Nevertheless the black uniforms are not ulgy per se, I would say.
Man some of these are my favorite uniforms these teams have ever had. I love those angels jersies especially tbh. The Reds and Mets jersies are pretty cool too imo.
As a Mets fan I like the black jerseys but the blue ones are just a better version. Wish that the blue jersey was what they used for away uniforms, but whatever.
I am a Yankee fan and I have to say the Mets aren't anywhere near our nemesis. They aren't even on our rader. If they're our Arch Nemesis then I am the New King of England
For the Astros, I vote for early 2000's Red/Black unis. Especially the Black. For some reason the owner at the time seemed to want to own some other team. First he changed the colors to look like the Brewers, then changed them again to look like the D Backs or Cardinals. Thank God they went back the Orange and Blue that they belong in. Although I wish they'd use an Orange cap.
Since you start with 1961, you would have missed anyway the worst Cards uniform in the modern era. There was a year in the 1950s they took off the birds on the bat and just had the word Cardinals on their front jesey. After plenty of criticism the birds on the bat reurned. I guess I am use to the blue Cards cap you mention because in my early youth as a Cards fan that was their regular uniform combination in late 1950s and early 1960s. The blue cap was my first Cards cap and I guess like wearing it with my typical day's clothes better liking to wear blue or black. Interesting video. Cards fan
'69 A's All teams had the mlb logo for the anniversary but it was on their sleeves and the A's had no sleeves so there it went. Just the A was a throwback to the PHA A's who just had 'A'. Great video!
As a Diamondbacks fan, I actually liked the snake scales pattern on the shoulders and on the side. It was so cool and I got so mad when it got taken away. I want my Diamondbacks to bring back that design
Most team's have had a bad look at some point in time. I'd like to voice my pet peeve. When teams wear "throwbacks" they should at least make an attempt to wear them like they did in the day. For example, when a team wears a 1960s throwback, couldn't they, for that one game, wear stirrups and not wear pants down to their shoes? Get into the spirit, guys. Btw, when I was a kid, I thought the Red Sox stirrups of red, white, blue looked cool. Can't they wear them again, just once?
WORST uniforms 1975 Houston Astros 2022 Houston Astros 1987 Minnesota Twins 1974 Cleveland Indians 1998 Tampa Bay "Devil" Rays (worst NAME for an expansion team, too) 1993 New England Patriots. (I had to throw that in. When #1 draft pick Drew Bledsoe modeled it, Red Sox announcer Sean McDonough said...on live TV..."Those new Patriots uniforms are absolutely hideous!")
@@Chasstful I don't know, man. Those flat top red caps from the late 70's with the white horizontal pinstripes were pretty loud. Their wide band powder blue road jerseys from the 70's and 80's were somewhat unattractive, too.
Some honorable mentions, the San Diego gold pants and gold tops in the 70s. Second the Pittsburgh Pirates road gray with wide stripes . The Cubs blue raid jersey of the early 80s.
Well I’m surprised to see you making a second channel. But yeah I’ve seen many ugly sports teams uniforms over the years, regardless if it’s the NFL, NBA, MLB, etc..
@5:06 Eyesore? They look fantastic. And it's not "forced" either. The Mets logo and colors are a combination of the Brookln Dodgers and the New York Giants. Guess what, the Giants main color is BLACK. I love the Mets basic blue hats and white/grey uniforms but the black uniforms were special. I wear my black Mets hat sooner than I wear my blue one. Cool opinion bro.
The 1970’s was the worst time for uniforms (San Diego, Oakland, Pittsburgh’s striped hats, Houston’s striped jerseys, ugh!!!). The Mariners look like rappers in those long, sleeveless tops. Pinstripes always look good.
Just here for the Cincinnati Reds uniforms. Thank goodness I was born after that Era, and have only seen good uniforms, plus the throwbacks for their 150th anniversary season.
I and others will always forever associate those late 70s White Sox’s jerseys with Disco Demolition Night Heck with the blue they look like a bad knockoff of a Jersey the Cubs probably would have worn at the turn of the century Luckily after those would come those really cool 80s SOX jerseys (even though I’m a Cubs fan I’ve always thought they look so cool and are literally the perfect retro jersey)
14:47 As a long time resident of San Diego, the reason that the Padres uniform alternated between the blue and white jerseys and brown and gold jerseys is because everything in San Diego has to remind you that this city has a connection to The United States Navy (Hence the blue and white on the jersey and the old Padres logo from the 2000s), Mexico (Which is why the SDSU's athletics teams have the "Aztecs" name), and Spain (Which explains the Brown and Gold color scheme of the old Padres uniform and the name "Padres"). Despite the constant reminders, San Diego has hardly any real connections to the Navy, Mexico, or Spain; aside from the beaches and The Midway Museum, there is barely any Naval presence here - though it was more prevalent before the 80s. Spanish is spoken here but not often and most people play up the connection to Mexico to seem cultured. There is almost no connection to Spain aside from Persidio Park and Balboa Park and even that is fleeting since most (55%) of the time San Diego is overcast; this leaves both parks looking more like Late Georgian, Victorian, and Edwardian Britian, Habsbourg Austria (post Napoleon), or a BBC Drama.
Did you forget NASNI (North Island), Point Loma, and 32nd Street? I wouldn’t say “hardly a Naval presence”. Coming from someone who worked on base. Was cool on the brown (Spain). I waited for him to call out the mustard uniforms or the 85 road (gray with pinstripes)-which I wanna find one of. Go Padres!!!!
Without watching the video, if you don't have the Phillies' all burgundy uniforms this video is invalid. And you did so you're cool. And I dug the Cubs road pinstripes. But I do often wonder that if it were Carlton pitching in that uniform instead of Christenson maybe it's fortunes might have been different.
Hands down the Padres and Rockies have yet to design an even slightly attractive uniform. With the Padres it's doomed forever with terrible color combos. I get the logic, but a Padre dresses to NOT impress on purpose
I agree with all that. Yellow and Brown are hideous colors on a sports uni. The Rockies purple unis are bad, their alternate unis with the skinny jean pants are the ugliest I've ever seen in sports. It must be really uncomfortable playing baseball in tight pants
Brewer's gold uniform shirt I do not find that bad. But you're asking why why why: Isn't gold the color of lager beer?? That's why i've always thought that brewer's uniforms had the yellow/ gold accents.
I HATE THE GIANTS ORANGE AND THE BLUE/YELLOW OF BOSTON. I also think the Dbacks have had some atrocious unis in their history. The grays were an abomination.I liked when Seattle had the Trident logo.
great content!! wow i cant believe the orioles all orange jersey was excluded from this list.as an avid fan of the Os, feeling slightly guilty bus tossing my team like that. regards
Those Astros starburst jerseys...ugh! The Blue Jay's powder blue made the players look like patients in hospital. David Cone looked the worst- his complexion was gray!
I like the M logo better than the TC personally. I was born in '85, so when I was growing up, that's what the Twins wore. I also prefer the Dodgers road jersey that reads Los Angeles to the ones that say Dodgers.
Why not come up with a good look - and keep it. Think Green Bay Packers or the Yankees. Historic icon. Tradition. Great memories. What we've been, what we are, what we'll be in the future.
You do realize the reason teams add black to their colors, particularly hats? It's to sell to gang members. SUPPOSEDLY, the Colorado cap was popular among folks who didn't know a Baseball from a shuttlecock.
Black is so over-used. I understand the Penguins doing it, because they wanted to identify with the Pirates and Steelers. If Pittsburgh ever got a basketball team, they'd do black and gold, too. The White Sox look good. But I hated the Falcons black uniforms. Red and silver was better.
People have forgotten how bad the nationals uniforms used to be. They regularly wore uniforms with letters out of order and misspelled, numbers in the wrong spot. Uno watch documented this many times. Thankfully they cleaned that up.
I hate the movement toward black unis in all of sports. Just dumb. Major offenses ? Old Astros vs. new Minnesota North Stars New Jersey Devils Philly Eagles Too many to mention. The cap the Pirates wore in the late '70s was so unique & instantly identifiable- isn't that what a team wants ?..... It's rampant & horrid....
Those pinstriped road Minnesota Twins uniforms are not only my favorite Twins' uniforms ever, they're probably in my Top 5 of favorite baseball uniforms ever. But it's all subjective. Cubs or White Sox fan? You said you hate the Twins but you started off with the Cubs.
I’m both a Cubs and a Sox fan. My dad’s side is Cubs and my mom’s side is Sox, plus I got to go to both Wrigley and Comiskcellurate plenty of times when I was a kid. Even nearly 30 years later, I haven’t chosen one side. I was the first born, though both of my sisters love the Cubs and my brother is a Sox fan if you’re wondering about where any sibling allegiances are.
@@WindyCityLeague that’s a very interesting story. I’ve never met anyone in person or online that liked both the Cubs and the White Sox. I also don’t live in the Midwest.
I kind of like the black Mets uniforms, if only because it's something different. What I always considered the worst uniforms were the Astro's "Tequila Sunrise" uniforms. The oversized star was ugly. They looked like Little League uniforms.
