Love this series, in coming up on 40 and I'm already looking at bikes with a similar lens. Also was a cyclist but never rode motorcycles at all. I live in a Washington, great for ADV riding so that's want got me looking. the 300L Rally is on the top of my list for bike I have looked at and your the first I have seen that actually addressed(changed it out) the suspension. Currently watching the whole series.

Thanks!! And best of luck deciding on an adventure bike. Obviously you know which one I like best, but there are loads of great options out there.

Hi Tyler, from Germany. Been binge watching your channel and especially liked "Beginner or End Game". As a downsized 66 year old. Totally agree with your philosophy. On the subject of your Nelson Rig tail pack, it is easily repaired. The reason the zipper is coming apart is the slider has stretched open enough so as not to accurately line up the 2 halfs of the zip. To fix it, do the following... Open the zipper fully. Take a slide jaw plier or vice grip and very gently squeeze the tail of the slider either side until it is just not binding. You will find the zipper works perfectly. Never throw zip sliders away. It's easy to swap them out. Compliments to Nelson Rig. Gr8 channel btw.

Thanks for the great feedback, and for the tip on the zipper. I’ll be giving that a try when I get home today 👍

Last night I replied to you on you numb hands video and queried about your Rox Anti-Vibration Risers. I’m impressed with how you think and come across on your videos, and to get such a thorough reply so soon is appreciated. The close up detail of the interference the bottom nut of the Rox-Anti Shock Riser clinched it for me. My suspension guru used YSS 20mm cartridges and the best YSS shocky and re dynoed the lot to my specification. I do remote moto with lots of river crossings and bought the 300 to go where my AT is too challenging. I’m very fortunate having as a personal friend one of the best mechanics in the country. Rather than lower the bike by linkage he went internally into the shock and without changing any settings my suspension guru made, lowered the bike 30mm. To keep things in balance I raised the forks 32mm above the top yoke. I’m disappointed not being able to use the Rox-Anti Riser and am now going to research the other options Rox offer. So a big thanks to your input. Consider me subscribed. If you click on my logo you will see who’s talking. Cheers

Thanks for the great comment, and I’m glad I was able to help. Sorry for the slow response on this. For some reason it ended up in my “hold for approval” queue.

Really like your videos and content. Regarding the cheap bark busters, I believe that during a crash, energy must be absorbed by the bike. If the bark buster absorbs much of this unwanted energy, then it may protect a more expensive and vital component from failure. Good that it bent, but did not break. If bent to the point of interference with lever, it could be removed. Will be "hardening" my newly acquired CRF300L Rally, and really appreciate your opinions and effort to produce these videos.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
That’s a great point. I’ve heard a lot of people say the same thing about the soft shift lever. Easier to bend a lever back in place than to replace a shaft because the lever was too strong to bend. Best of luck with your build!

Sir I have to say I think you made a mistake when putting your bike together. The front brake lines should be routed inside the fork. In your current position when drop the bike you run the risk of crushing the tubes. You will have either no brakes or a locked brake in the woods.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
Good eye 🙂 Yes, someone else pointed that out as well. I’ve fixed it now. I appreciate it.

Have you attempted or would consider digging deeper into the bike powertrain such as 550performance ECU, foam filter, cutting airbox snorkels, changing sprocket etc.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
I haven’t. Interesting you should bring that up though. Tomorrow I’m meeting up with a friend who rides a Rally as well. He’s got a full exhaust replacement along with the 550 update. I’ve got the suspension upgrade from Rally Raid. We’re going to swap for a while so we can compare those two upgrades. I haven’t really considered doing the exhaust upgrades before, but that may change after tomorrow 🤷‍♂️

Enjoyed your video. Thanks. One question, how did you mount your handguards with the Fase Anti-Vibration Inserts? Rocky Mountain website says they will not work with wrap around guards.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills 2 месяца назад
I picked up some longer bolts than what the inserts came with. I go over it in detail in this video, starting at about 7:30 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-_kdz4sfKiBM.html

Great video lots of good info but it looks as though your front brake lines are in the wrong place? Should they not be behind the fork leg? If you dump the bike on that side you will rip the hoses.

Do you think in your experience has the abs models advantage over the non abs?
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
I’m glad I got the ABS. Thankfully I’ve never had to use it in an emergency situation, but I’ve tested it and it works as expected. I usually don’t even turn it off for dirt riding.

good insight into your mods. i am confused however. the crf 300l and crf300 rally are not the same bikes. you refer to the crf 300l as a rally but that's the 300 rally, not the 300l.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
Sorry, I’m not quite sure what you’re saying. Both versions have the “L” in them, if that’s what you mean, and yes, I have the CRF300L Rally.

You dampen a cloth but damp vibrations! So it's a vibration damper not dampener!
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
My dictionary disagrees with you (2: to dull or deaden; depress: to dampen one's spirits). As does Quad Lock: www.quadlockcase.com/products/vibration-dampener
@christhompson505
@christhompson505 Год назад
@@HighDesertHills Suspension damping is the process of controlling the spring's oscillation, either when it compresses or rebounds (usually both). Dampen is to make wet or make less strong or intense.
@HighDesertHills
@HighDesertHills Год назад
I gotcha. In my mind they're the same thing, but you're definitely right. In the context of suspension everything I see says damping. I didn't review my video when I saw your comment, so I assumed you were referring to the vibration mods I did on the handlebars, which could be correctly referred to as vibration dampening because they're dulling the vibrations. In any case, I appreciate knowing that in the suspension world it's always damping. Thanks!
