Going over all the modifications that have been done to my 911 in this video. As most of you know, this car has the 3.2 liter engine, G50 transmission, and some of what it came with from the factory. It was modified some before I bought it, and I've done a lot to it in the four years I've owned it.
Owning an air-cooled porsche 911 has had its challenges, but I've learned a lot and had a great time along the way. In this video I go over everything that's been done to this car. Hope you enjoy. Thanks for watching.

You’re killing me. The owner of the first shop that I ever worked at was in Canoga Park and he had a 1988 930 that I would “test drive “ when he would go on vacation. As far as the headlight burnt plugs I agree that a better quality end is necessary but a common problem with German ( mainly BMW) is that they need a redundant ground to prevent terminals from melting. Take care and enjoy the new addition to your family. May his first words be “ Porsche “

“Test drove” it until the owner noticed his rear tires were bald eh! Haha a redundant ground makes sense
@johnrpizzaguy
@johnrpizzaguy Год назад
@@michaelgideon6422 how cool bald rear tires,I’m going to guess that the right rear was worse, that’s the tire directly connected to your right foot and the heavier the foot the more the tire wears. Just look at an M3 owned by a 30 year old male in L A ,worn significantly more than the left rear. Any way have a great rest of your day and thanks for the great videos.

For the headlight bezel, maybe de-chrome with muriatic acid, prime and paint to match? For the weight, a lithium starter battery would save a quick ~30#. Pretty expensive but relative to Porsche ownership not so much, plus they last about twice as long.
@michaelgideon6422
@michaelgideon6422 Год назад
The headlight manufacturers recommend that you don’t disassemble the light lol. I’m thinking they don’t go back together if you do. I just want a company to sell them haha. I have the little smart lithium battery tender battery for my 912. I’m going to buy one for this car also. $124 and they work amazing. Easy weight savings I haven’t done yet. I think the battery I’m talking about is 6# compared to the crazy heavy standard lead batteries.

Did the same thing on my 84 Targa. I am down to 1000.80 Kg With the original bumpers and muffler. You forgot the starter and the barn door. the barn door can be replaced by a BMW hot wire system. from DE in Germany. Gives you wayyyy more throttle response. If i change the seats and bumpers I am easy under a 1000kg. Put a 993 exhaust manifold (3 flanges need to be rewelded to fit the studs on one side only), change the engine oil line, open your original muffler and make it a 2 out. More weight saving and more HP similar to an SSI. You have not started yet bro. Get rid of the G50. too heavy.

Hey Mike! You are getting popular! One of my friends sent me a video of you (the PCA chair welcoming all types of P-car owners). I told him I helped you buy this car years ago, lol. I should do a video about mine! I never show off any of my stuff. (this is Adam btw) Didn't I tell you not to sell your tail way back then? I think I remember that.

Enjoying your videos. You can swap out those big BMW seats for lightweight buckets. You could save much and would look more . . . porsche.

Glad to hear that! I forgot to mention these are very temporary seats. I have some light weight bucket seats I usually have in it.
@rdargenio
@rdargenio Год назад
Love that 911. Some observations: a sunroof delete might get about 25 lbs out of the top of the car. Not sure what the current seats weigh but there could be lighter options. Agree with you about the mufflers being an easy target. Last but not least, depending on the tire size you chose vs stock, you may have shortened the final drive ratio with the 15” setup. That would be cool.
@michaelgideon6422
@michaelgideon6422 Год назад
I totally forgot to talk about the seats. These are just temporary. I usually have sparco buckets in it. This car has original paint and everything I’ve done can easily be put back to stock. A sunroof delete would be awesome but it’s a massive job, really pricey, and something I couldn’t easily reverse. I’d sunroof delete a car that wasn’t so clean. This one’s a pretty nice car so I just can’t do it haha. Thanks for the comment

@@rdargenio exactly. If the car is rough, do it. Or maybe you’re having the entire car taken to bare metal already..otherwise it’s not worth it. The more time that goes by the more rare it will be to find cars that haven’t been chopped up and changed.

Another great vid, Mike! I love hearing the history and progression of the car, I wish I had done a better job with mine as it's quite different than when I bought it. My goal is to "add" lightness while keeping it a good street car.

Have you thought of getting rid of the flag mirrors they are solid metal and really heavy vitaloni race mirrors much lighter and look nicer. Prefer the longer videos like to see some of the meets you take the cars on as well as the mechanical vids. Keep up the good work

I haven’t thought of the mirrors. I wonder how heavy they are. I’ll consider anything that can be put back easily and I’m sure they are just a couple bolts. If they’re super heavy that’s a great idea. Thanks!

Concerning the muffler - have a look onto Bisimoto's Pulse Chamber. This might be the lightest muffler you can get for the 911. Also you gain more power and torque...

It's a great car. Amazing how much weight you took out of it without doing something like changing to a fiberglass hood/deck lid. Agree with you regarding the wheels. I like smaller wheels with a bit more tire sidewall vs big wheels and low-profile tires. Rides better and looks better (to me). Gauges look great. Much better than the white. Changed my headlights to H4s as well, but bought mine with the primed/painted rings. Then I had them painted to match the car. Petrol blue for my SC. Repainted the original sugar scoops at the same time, so if trend swings back to the scoops, I can switch back with some fresh ones.
