As a fighting game fan, I'm more offended that you didn't notice the problems with the SNES port of Baseball 2020. It's missing some gameplay features that made it to the Genesis and Neo Geo versions. Like landmines. The puzzle game love was a refreshing change of pace from the expected.
Bust-A-Move is an example of confusing box art like Phalanx. Pretty sure they thought when they localized the game that nobody will buy it with cute dragons. The RAD 90's needed something fitting like a space station blowing up space marbles.
Super Bomberman wasn't a Neo Geo game, it was only on the SNES. There was Neo Bomberman on the Neo Geo, but that was released in 1997 and is similar to Super Bomberman 4 on the SNES. There was also Bomberman: Panic Bomber released on the PC Engine in 1994 and later the Neo Geo, SNES and other consoles but that is a falling block puzzle game.
This is what I thought too. It's cool there was a Bomberman on Neo Geo to play in arcades in late 90s but it's not some definitive version that got ported. Magical Drop series I do think originated on Neo and ported to other systems later.
Art of Fighting: forgot to mention the music sounds better than the original mostly because of the arrangement and sometimes being remade like Micky's theme, quite impressive
Happy new year 🎉 I grew up playing these conversions. Like you said a Neo Geo was crazy expensive.. (honestly still is) Great compilation. 👍🏻 Regretting not importing AOF 2, and always had fun in arcades with Sengoku would have loved that at home..
For those of you who live in the PAL region and played Fatal Fury Special... Well, it reduced to 24Mb compared to 32 in the NTSC countries, the animation is reduced to two frames of everything, and omitted Big Bear, Cheng Sinzan, Axel Hawk, and Laurence Blood along with their respective stages. However, to make up for it, Ryo Sakazaki is available from start.
The Fatal Fury Special is a great port and a improvement over Fatal Fury 2. The sprites are redone and bigger and have more animation like Wolfgang Idle animation and backgrounds look more detailed.
These are wonderful classic games. I'm happy that SNK keeps many of their beloved classic fighting game characters alive in The King of Fighters 15 giving them such a wonderful modern design move set and combos also special moves. I love SNK and classic SNK games. Cool video. ^_^
Oof, I didn't realize how bad these ports looked and sounded at the time. It was still cool to have a way to play many of these games at home though. King of the Monsters on snes was a huge let down though haha.
Fatal Fury Special has to be the Nr.1! It's definetly the best 16bit SNK fighter and one of the best games in the whole fighting game genre on the SNES. Also considered that the Neo Geo original has 150megs, the 32meg FFS on SNES is a great example of how a 16bit port should be like!
The other day I played Fatal Fury for Playstation. Even on this version the commands did not answer the way we are used to in Street Fighter and other games like Fatal Fury II, Special, etc..I believe the problem is the game itself like Street Fighter 1 and Pit Fighter.
We played and loved them all on the snes . the genesis version had something that makes it feel more „cheap“ or lack . And the snes joypad was the best . And i like the snes sound more . Later we seen the neogeo versions but then we did not play so much anymore . Best was fatal fury special , samurai shodown 1 , art of fighting 1. But we play most streeet fighter on snes . 😂
I remember my friend coming over my house to play SF2 and he brought Fatal Fury with him for the SNES. First time me seeing a loading screen for a cartridge based game! It wasn't very fun at all...
@@luchloe540 Yeah Karnov's Revenge was released for the Neo Geo. I thought the original also ran on Neo Geo hardware when released. Didn't know the game was its own thing. My mistake :)
If SNK told Nintendo to port all the SNK games. They know how much money they spent. Even SNES was allowing the 16-bit console to do their porting of their games
Magical Drop's game had the most *Iffy* of intros with it's overall starting moment showing a half naked 3 eye'ed (yeah she does own a 3rd eye btw) Elf anime girl before the scene switches to showing the rest of roster doing only smirks & 1 liner poses mostly, the scene then ends with half naked pink Elf girl then opening her eyes like she's awoken & ready to play mostly. 😐
I've played Art of Fighting on both Neo Geo and SFC and honestly they're pretty close when it comes to gameplay....both are meh and i can't pull the "Haoh Sho Ko Ken" in both. As for Fatal Fury Special and World Heroes 2 charge attacks don't really works for some reasons.....
ps1 32bits and also had massive memory for games. compared to the measly 32meg carts of 16 bit era. but maybe the game could be done with a few sacrifices. the homebrew stuff on genesis with kof and fatal fury is quite amazing and showing what could have been possible on these consoles.... really crazy arcade quality sprites were feasible on this hardware.
And samurai shodown is better than mk2 . Mk have only the finishing moves. And not everyone known samurai shodown because they play only mainstream games and mk was more known for blood and later from the movie . Here (germany) most people not even know arcade or neogeo 😢
