I didn't say they were ruining Star Wars. I'm fine with a cute creature or two. The Ewoks are the best... thank goodness Endor wasn't populated by Wookies like was the original idea. Also. Ewoks weren't originally made to sell toys. They were an integral part to Lucas's story. Originally he thought of Wookies, but the mythology of Wookies evolved to make them tech-savvy, so he had to create a different race. Back then, even Admiral Ackbar sold toys... so the idea that he had to make an alien cute to sell toys doesn't apply to Return of The Jedi. Heck... why don't people try to argue that Jawas are silly cute little creatures? Well... it's because people didn't like that cute creatures took down Stormtroopers so they made up a bunch of fake reasons why the Ewoks were a sellout move. It's all stupid. The cute, small design of the Ewoks was deliberate to make them seem un-intimidating. They had to be completely dismiss-able as a threat to the Empire. Not just technology-wise, but in appearance and size as well. The design of Ewoks was modeled largely after Lucas's dog... just like Chewbacca was inspired by another dog Lucas owned. But their is no story reason for Porgs to be cute, or crystal foxes, or the "fathiers" horse things. That's obvious toy creation. And fine. Whatever. I like cute animals.
