Now that The Last Jedi has been out for a year, let's take a look back. How have my thoughts on the movie changed, if at all? Is it the best Star Wars movie of all time? The worse? Spoilers: I don't think either is true.

Same here as well. Star Wars isn’t perfect & neither is anything in life. Overtime the Star Wars stuff has grown on me & giving it a chance along with the having clarifications from novels, comics, & directors notes on why certain things happened in the films.

Vlad Dascaliuc It depends on the topic hand since in film making you can do so much with like a 1-2hr long movie. And it’s unrealistic to cram a lot of things into that movie time slot. That’s why books, comics, & tv shows are there to help supplement the topic & what the movies can’t cover.

Going to see a Star Wars movie in the theater in May took me back to the prequel days (the prequels got me into the fandom, so I say that in a positive way). I'm sad that I may not get that experience again. But I agree that it would have been a better strategic move to hold it back until December.

I think people, including myself, hate the lightsaber toss scene because of how powerful the end scene was in the force awakens. I remember getting chills seeing Luke’s forlorn face while looking at Rey offering him his older lightsaber. And then he just tosses it a second later. Just feels cheap and uninspired.

Probably would have been a little more meaningful (but still funny) if he takes it, looks at it meticulously.... and then asks Rey, “You didn’t happen to find a hand with this, did you?” “...No?” “Hmph (tosses saber back to Rey), would’ve preferred the hand.” (Walks away) Lol, Idk 😂 But I’m not against the toss. Luke’s character rejects everything he once was now. It’s bitter because we didn’t want him to turn out that way. At least he redeems himself! 😊 Too bad he died 😖😖😖

Not only does Luke not look happy to see Rey, but he really does not look happy at all to see his old lightsaber. The amount of pain that Mark is able to communicate without words is haunting to me, and the fact that JJ holds on that expression for a very long time is significant. It indicates to me that Luke is not looking to embrace that weapon again.

I'm still not a fan of this movie and i doubt IX will change my mind on it. Hearing your perspective on the movie is genuinely interesting and I can't fault you or anyone else for enjoying it. Seeing so many people say that this film was what got them into star wars is great to hear and I'm happy for them finding a new series to enjoy. Yep. Assuming Episode IX does its job, people will begin seeing TLJ differently as they will be able to finally see it within the context of the entire trilogy. TLJ is a movie that raises more questions than answers (as a good middle chapter should do) and the answers it does give aren't easy answers for the characters involved. It's just hard for a lot of people to stew on that ambiguity for so long without any sort of resolution. Once we finally have that resolution, people will see TLJ differently.

"I think what most people have a problem with is that Rey could lift tons of rock when Luke couldn't even lift one or two even with the training of the greatest Jedi master of that time " No. Most people can't stand Rey because she's absolutely perfect at almost everything she does. She's mentoring Luke, she's besting every single enemy and target, they make sure to show that the stronk puwerfuh wamen is doing way better than Kyrlo in the throne room, and she has to save him. The only thing she ever fails at is getting other people to not fail her. She's supposed to be someone relatable? She's a deity. There are no stakes when it comes to anything she does. She is the Bella Swan of adventure - everyone just loves her and need her, even the majestic, decades old beings. We've had a problem with Rey since she "bypassed the compressor," and it just got steadily worse from there. Just go look at how many popular RU-vidrs became so deflated after TFA released on blue-ray. The same people who couldn't see past that initial, surface level spectacular copy of ANH, suddenly started realizing that they didn't like TFA that much after all.

The problem people have with Rey is more from the way she is written. Good story is about setup and payoff and in the case of Rey a lot of things she does don't result in consequence or situations where she has to learn to overcome obstacles. For instance in Aquaman Arthur leaves the bad guy to die in a submarine, the consequence is that his actions lead to the creation of Black manta. Rey has no such situations like this where she has to reflect on something she has done or had to learn from. Power comes with responsibility and I don't have an issue with Rey being strong in the force but she never learns anything and never faces consequences, the one area that would of worked was her internal issue about her parents. If that issue was holding her back in some way like not being able to use the force in a certain way or created fear or something she had to overcome then fair enough Nothing about her feels like it's earned it just seems as if everything she touches turns to gold. This is only my take on Rey from a writer point of view I think Rey can be great but as a character she hasn't been properly developed

Its absolutely disgusting how so many fans try to make people who enjoy The Last Jedi feel ashamed of themselves. If you don't like a Star Wars movie then just say it and move on. There's no need to spread so much hate and disrespect all of the filmmakers because you didn't like it. Calling Rian Johnshon, Ruin Johnson and saying he isn't a Star Wars fan is rude and false. It got to do with one of the themes of the movie. There are good and bad sacrifices. Sacrificing yourself to hurt the people you hate and not for saving those you love is a bad sacrifice. Finn needed to hear this. His sacrifice, no matter how emotional and powerful it was, would've done absolutely nothing against the first order. Then a good sacrifices, like Holdo's and Luke's which had purpose. They saved the resistance big time. (note how Holdo wasn't even going to sacrifice herself before the first order started shooting at the transports. The Holdo maneuver seemed to be unplanned)

You clicked on this video to find out about Star Wars explained's thoughts about this film. You wanted to hear HIS OPINIONS not somebody's else's. You can't ask for him to bring up all of the stuff that you didn't like. Movies are subjective, he probably didn't see or care about the things you saw as a problem and that's why it wasn't brought up. It's his personal review. Suggesting that he's biased, is like saying someone is biased for having the taste buds to enjoy pineapples on pizza and then force them to address what they didn't like to make their thoughts valid. It makes no sense :D Also if you claim he only brought up positive things about the movie in this video, then you're simply lying. Not only to others, but to yourself as well. And, if you're going to criticize the movie, actually try make an effort to understand it and don't hate on people who likes it. Stop replying to every single comment that expresses some kind of enjoyment with this film with lazy criticism explaining how stupid they are. It only makes you look like a douchebag. I do consider myself a huge Star Wars fan, but anytime I go to see something new related to Star Wars I always try to go in with an open mind and do not instantly think, “I want this to happen and this had better happen.” as this will take away any element of surprise. In my opinion, I think this is what too many people did when they went to see the movie.

Matt Thornton You nailed it. All the stupid fan theories raised too many expectations of people and that’s why so many left the theater disappointed. You can’t speculate how a new Star Wars film is going to play out and build expectations around that. They’re not designed for that. This isn’t Steven Universe. The glorification of fan theories it’s what ruins the sequel trilogy. Not Rian Johnson, not JJ Abrams and not Kathleen Kennedy.

I agree. Except for one thing. When I'm told the new three films are going to be a new Skywalker trilogy I expect a Skywalker to be the Star and main protagonist of the films, not lied to and pushed a character almost everyone hates like Rey Nobody. Luke's dead, Leia is dead and Ben Solo is not only a Solo and not a Skywalker by name, but he is obviously second fiddle to Daisy Ridley's Rey. This is not a Skywalker trilogy. It's Star Wars the YA novel written by Publisher McStockWriter
@SilverandCold1x
@SilverandCold1x 5 лет назад
FREEUS1776 Except it was never sold as the new Skywalker Trilogy. Lucas’ trilogies were about the Skywalkers. You only assumed because that’s what the other two were, but let’s be honest, Disney intended to take a new narrative within the universe and use the old characters for a ceremonial passing of the torch from the get go. We all knew this. If you went into this thinking it would be a continuation of Lucas’ legacy without him, then I have some beachfront property in Kansas to sell you.

@@SilverandCold1x Nope. I went in with 0 expectations, I hadn't read any fan theories, and I had specifically avoided any mentions of the movie as that's how Han Solo's death got spoiled for me back when TFA came out. But I still came out thinking TLJ was a massive mess. The writing just struck me as inexcusably lazy. My impression of Disney after these last few years is that they have no clue what they are doing. The prequels were bad, but at least I can say they had some purpose and direction to them. Lucas clearly had an idea of where he was going with his movies, but Disney keeps shaking up their writers and directors and it's become obvious that there is no head person who has a clear vision for the franchise.
@SilverandCold1x
@SilverandCold1x 5 лет назад
Joseph K You’re Absolutely right. TFA was playing it safe and TLJ is a Frankenstein of what ended up on the cutting room floor initially. That shows. There is no clear direction for where any of this is going, and I think that’s part of the overall appeal for new Star Wars content. The problem is that we, the fans, have no part in it. People feel alienated because they are. We have no say and any input is deemed intrusive by Lucasfilm. And we’ve seen what great content they’ve put out in smaller media. Pablo Hidalgo and the story group had extensive creative freedom in Rogue One and that was a massive success. But when we suggest Dave Filoni play a larger role in the films, suddenly it’s a PC issue on sexism against Kathleen Kennedy. We see what works and want them to run with it, but that would be intrusive to their own influence. And so we get flops like Solo and TLJ.

In regards to the holdo and Poe subplot I disagree with all the reasons star wars explained gave for why holdo didn't tell Poe the plan. My problem with the arguments gave by the defenders is it all comes down to blind obidience. Holdo gave zero reason for anyone to trust her or believe that she was competent. So she was asking for people to trust her based solely on her rank and her being in charge. I don't like the message being sent that " in the military you need to blindly follow orders from your superiors without question they don't need to actually give a reason why you should trust them instead you need to always trust your leaders". I have a problem with that because Both in the real world and in star wars blind obidience leads to atrocities being committed based on orders from a superior. Also let's not forget about how if jyn and the rest of rogue one had taken the lesson of this movie to heart and blindly obeyed the alliance council the death star would not have been destroyed. I also said this before Poe is not some grunt he is the guy who destroyed starkiller base, the one who was trusted by Leia so much that he was sent to find the map to Luke Skywalker, he is the most skilled pilot in the fleet, and once the leadership is gone he is essentially the second or third in command. Because of all this Poe's liyalty was not in question so even if holdo didn't tell him the full plan. She could have also said " Poe I have a plan but at the moment it is on a need to know basis" that would have been enough.Also in regards to the beginning I disagree with the idea that Poe was in the wrong. What people seem to be missing is that the dreadnought had those massive auto cannons which were powerful enough to go through a planetary shield. I have no doubt the dreadnoughts cannons would have been powerful enough to destroyed the entire resistance fleet. So if the dreadnought had not been destroyed it would have wiped out the entire fleet plus the dreadnought was only seconds away from destroying the fleet. So what Poe actually did was save everyone's lives but of course that is never acknowledged in the movie. In regards to Rey and kylo the problem I have is there is no gap between the force awakens and the last Jedi. Meaning just a few days ago Rey watched kylo slice open Finn's back, murder his own father, torture her, and that is in addition to everything else he has done including kill half of Luke's students. So I don't buy that Rey could have such faith in kylo Ren as to turn herself in I mean what did she think was going to happen kylo would turn and her and kylo would leave the supremacy.

The small time period between Last Jedi and Force Awakens is a major problem for me. The idea that the First Order could overrun or at least militarily defeat the entire Republic in what a day, but they were also having trouble with a small Resistance fleet even using one of the most powerful ships ever created. And as you say, Rey goes from borderline hating Kylo to wanting to join him after a few Skype calls.
@Movie-comparisons
@Movie-comparisons 5 лет назад
@@samtownend6744 I agree completely. The new republic was a galactic government and the star wars Galaxy is made up of hundreds of planets hell maybe even thousands. So I don't buy that the presence of the new republic is only on 5 planets also I don't buy that no other planet has a military force. The first order destroyed 5 planets that should have incentived the Galaxy to stand up to the first order. But no the last Jedi says " after their capital was destroyed the new republic is completely gone and the rest of the galaxy can't be bothered to stand up against the empire". Seriously does not one planet have a fleet they can put together to fight against the first order. And this also ruins the original trilogy. Remember how much the rebellion sacrificed and how they fought for 3 films to restore the republic. Now all that is for nothing I mean the new republic is now gone the empire is incredibly powerful and the rebels are more weak and pathetic than ever. So remind me again what is the point of the original trilogy when 30 years later everything is worse than it was before

@horizonnb457 5 лет назад
@@samtownend6744 The were able to obliterate the Republic because the Republic demilitarised after they defeated the Empire and had their army/navy in their capital planets because they weren't fighting anything. The complete surprise attack from Starkiller base gave them no time to evacuate, they will still have *some* ships and troops out there, probably either giving up or soon joining the Resistance but those two reasons are why the Republic fell so easily. Also they couldn't stop the Resistance for the same reason why the Empire couldn't stop the Rebellion. They are too small and can hide anywhere, the FO can't monitor everywhere on every planet.

chaoszieg The film made one billion dollars at the box office, so the claim that it killed Star Wars is ludicrous. And art is subjective. Trying to insinuate that Last Jedi is an objectively “bad” movie just makes you look ignorant. Especially since the majority of people’s complaints are directed at how the movie handled the Star Wars lore, rather than technical issues such as lighting, visual effects, sound design, acting, cinematography, etc. People are allowed to think it’s good, and it doesn’t mean they are wrong. JMV JR All of your opinions about the film are subjective, and your own. I disagree but that’s fine. However insinuating that Solo’s lack of success is due to Last Jedi is premature and a narrative that is being pushed by people who don’t like The Last Jedi. Solo didn’t bomb. It made it’s money back and more, yes it underperformed but a bomb to me is a movie that loses money and breaks even. Solo did better than the doomsayers let on. But regardless there are more factors to it’s box office. Franchise fatigue (a major Star Wars just came out by the time Solo was in theaters), a lack of marketing up until weeks before release (compare that to Last Jedi’s trailer a year before release), production issues that leaked into the press, and the fact that a Han Solo prequel was never a story anyone was asking for. There are numerous reasons Solo underperformed. Honestly the fact that a small percentage of audiences didn’t like Last Jedi was probably the smallest factor in Solos box office figures. Again, I don’t care if people didn’t like the Last Jedi. I disagree with the criticisms you have but you can interpret the movie however you want, that is how art works. But I am tired of this narrative people are pushing. Star Wars is doing fine despite one movie being divisive on parts of the internet where people argue constantly about Star Wars anyway.

They are the ones really killing Star Wars, IMO. you cant even enjoy a fan film without some of these "fans" saying nonsense like "way better than TLJ" or "Disney should take notes"...etc. I think these people have developed an unhealthy obsession with what is supposed to be silly, old entertainment. These fans should just barricade themselves inside a room, throw the old VHS tapes of the original trilogy in the clunky player and watch them in a constant loop with their thumbs in their mouths, rocking back and forth in a corner forever and ever. actually I agree, most of the direction Rian was going for I actually agreed with(Luke etc..). but the execution was off, and with everyone wanting to see the old cast again with this trilogy supposed to be about handing the torch to the new generation they failed in that majorly. Points I didn't like.... -Luke ok well I don't dislike it but if Luke was to no longer be the hero many fans wanted to see we should of had that movie of him losing his way before seeing something like this. -The overall plot, there really isn't much there just a bunch of random events stiched together, no continuation of ep7 with many events of ep7 seemingly forgotten, Like Rey running off to save Kylo even tho just hours to a day prior she wanted to murder him for what he did to his father. -The Ending no its not that Luke died etc... it is the lack of a set up for the final chapter, and while with the slate clean like it is there is a lot they can do, there is nothing to speculate or get excited to see, Rey will beat Kylo... again or she wont there is really nothing else too the next movie, and that is by far the biggest flaw of the last jedi in my opinion.

"should they appeal to the more hardcore fans or to a more general audience?" Neither. I've seen (amongst other things) video games do this over and over and over again, trying to appeal to 'broader audiences' and by doing that, water down the very things that made people fall in love with it in the first place. IF Star Wars was a niche thing, then appealing to a hardcore audience would actually be correct, you'd want to keep that audience there. Besides, there's no such thing as a 'hardcore fan' because every fan, 'hardcore' or not, is gonna have their own thoughts and ideas, and it'd be impossible to hit EVERY bullet point that EVERY 'hardcore' fan thinks, without it becoming a giant mess of a film. But it isn't. Star Wars as a brand is so monumentally huge, you will get a massive audience purely on the name. They don't NEED to appeal to a broader group, they HAVE the 'broad group'. So they can basically do whatever they want, and as long as it isn't total trash, they'll pretty much be able to do it and enough people will like it. That's really why this movie is so divisive yet still being talked about on a pretty regular basis a year later. I get a feeling of overall of people seeing the movies strengths and weaknesses, but those weaknesses are big, BIG weaknesses, which is why it's gotten so much negative press. This movie had so much squandered, wasted potential, and that can be a bigger disappointment than anything blatant, obvious problems the film might've had. I'm certainly in the 'I disliked it but could see the good in it' part of the crowd.

Haha I wasn't ever a huge fan of, "Snoke," either lol he does come off, right from the go, as just another generic scary, "big bad." (Those generic interchangeable antagonists are becoming more and more prevalent in science fiction/fantasy/action. Like the giant grey muscly mass in the Incredible Hulk or the Night in Shining Armor at the end of Thor lol just as interesting to me.) "One moment of weakness does not ruin a character, in my eyes." I completely agree 👍 It wasn't a sticking point for me, either. I also found it a, "Perfect explanation of why Skywalker felt he needed to isolate himself." And, as far as finding out that Rey doesn't have some contrived lineage or, "connection," to some other characters from past episodes in the primary Saga or the expanding current Canon has always been the much more interesting of the many incessantly theorized and overly speculated possibilities. Watching The Force Awakens again before The Last Jedi refreshed my memory that Rey doesn't just automatically "become a badass," like so many people keep insisting. She was raised and was forced to survive on her own in one of the Star Wars Galaxy's more unforgiving environments, so she had to learn how to defend herself, and she is shown right from the beginning being an exceptionally effective scavenger, even if she has increasing trouble getting paid what she's worth. The movie also makes it pretty clear that she's not exactly some helpless wide-eyed dreamer, (like Luke was when we first met him,) by showing her pretty handily beating the snot out of those thugs that Unkar Plutt sent to steal BB-8 from her. Sure, she's never held a lightsaber, or had any experience with the Force, but she could definitely hold her own when defending herself with that staff. And that's obviously because of the physical and psychological conditioning of having to grow up, completely alone and abandoned, left to fend for herself on Jakku or die. The remaining distance to wielding a lightsaber is negligible, at best. Certainly negligible enough to be able to suspend my disbelief for the sake of enjoying the ride.👍

There were good parts in the movie and stuff that could’ve been better. I would say it’s one of the weakest Star Wars Movies. I think they killed Luke Skywalker too soon and could’ve used him in Episode IX. I would say it does well in cinematography & the Throne room scene is where the movie succeeds. Storyline is meh and directionless, and ending seemed a bit anti climatic. I didn’t care who Snoke was but I can agree we could’ve got some insight and I thought the Rey’s parents reveal was cheap & undermines the set up in TFA regardless what her heritage was.
@pseudonymousbeing987

Luke can and will be more powerful than we can possibly imagine as a force ghost. Yoda showed us that ghosts can interact with and influence the real world. Rey's reveal wasn't cheap, it was profound, and nothing could be better than it. Her being a Skywalker or Kenobi would be cheap, uninspired and most importantly seems to the predictable and obvious answer. But her heritage as it is is not only in itself great character development, it adds layers to TFA and her past life. It's doesn't cheapen the setup, it deepens it.

I felt depressed as my wife and I left the theater. We drove in silence for a while. I have been a fan since seeing the first film in theaters in 1977. The Last Jedi blatantly disrespected the fans of the franchise. I know there will be a bunch of people to hate this comment. Think of this. When Star Wars debuted in 77, the Vietnam War had ended just two years prior. Disco was a thing. The US President was Jimmy Carter. Life was different then, but the movie brought people from all walks of life together. We were transported to another galaxy. Another time. Fans saw a different type of SCI FI movie. It was worn and dirty and real. The Last Jedi tried to do away with all of that. Nothing in that movie was good. OH, and Luke, tossing the lightsaber was a TOTAL disgrace. This guy has not see his father's lightsaber in 30 years, along with his hand being cut off, just tosses it? Nope. That is not what J.J. Abrams set up in The Force Awakens. Had he directed it, the Last Jedi would have been AWESOME. I love your channel, but I had to make this comment against TLJ. Bad film making.

It doesn't seem that was JJ was going for. Rian seemed to bring Luke closer inline with George's ideas. But they both toned him way down from the original ideas for Luke, that seems to have been provided by George.

I think it’s also reflective of the time it was made. The Original Trilogy reflected a time when the United States was, indeed, in conflict with an Evil Empire, to put it in Reagan’s terms. The Prequels were made in an era that many people consider to be filled with political corruption and conspiracy theories Palpatine manipulating the Clone Wars and the whole ‘Bush did 9/11 to pass the Patriot Act’ dynamic. Now, we have entered a new era, where it’s difficult to find meaning through the quagmire of life. We don’t have an evil empire. We don’t have shock or trauma from a traumatic event like the 9/11 terror attacks. We’re just here.

You never said why you didn't like TLJ. You just rambled about how Star Wars was the only good thing to come out of the 70's. And please don't make it out as some original fan thing. My mom memorized the original dialogue, refuses to call it A New Hope, refuses to watch anything but the original theatrical release, and dislikes the Prequel Trilogy for not being "fun". And she loved The Last Jedi.

He's very cool I just didn't like how they used his dead body as comical moment. Like seriously why does he look so silly dead. I like when a character dies, but we get to fully see his backstory. And what makes that character them. Thrawn is a perfect example of this, he was so popular that he basically got resurrected in the stories, showing his complete past despite being dead.

Well spoken from what I consider to be a true Star Wars fan. Your commentary was objective, and reflected the things we love and don’t love so much about a franchise that has shaped and influenced so many of us. We are such passionate fans that we allow the smallest things about each movie to drive us in extreme diatribes. I love all things Star Wars. I liked the Last Jedi and you have a voice to the fans who have likes and dislikes but appreciate the Star Wars universe as a whole!

I'll admit. When I saw the movie, I was a little conflicted as to whether I liked it or not. Probably because I was expecting them to have a Vader twist for Rey & for Snoke's back story to be revealed. I later re watched the film over the summer, I have never laughed that much at a Star Wars film. & I had time to process the film & the film is still one of my favorites. Now I don't know if Disney is using a Jedi Mind Trick on me or maybe I actually am a Star Wars fan who loves Star Wars no matter what.

I love the hyperspace ram. Imo the entire point was that the dark side was gaining ground so the forced worked through Holdo to even it out. That being said I would have preferred it to be Leia, and have Luke survive into the next one.

A word about the hyperspace bit: it wasn't not done before because other SW film-makers hadn't "thought to do it"... it's because they know how hyperspace works, and that it has a specified function in the in-universe already as a tool for travel, not warfare. Framing it as something that just happened not to be thought of in previous films makes Rian seem like an innovative genius, rather than someone who ignores the cannon that has been so thoughtfully and deliberately fostered through several decades of movies, books, comics, etc. When you actually step outside the movie and consider the universe in which Star Wars happens, it's very apparent that it's IMPOSSIBLE for that ridiculously simple maneuver not to have been thought of before. Also, it's just an uncreative way to take down the Supremacy. Other movies had the characters dismantling giant vessels or space stations from within, finding their weak spot, or tricking or out-maneuvering them. Rian's idea was for one cruiser to ram into it like a child with a football helmet. A word about Rey's character: our focus on her moving too quickly in her own training isn't that she's undergoing character changes that are insignificant to us that we can't relate to. It's rather that she is constantly validated and reinforced with the plot-armor of each movie, and because even the task of becoming a Jedi-which for Anakin, Obi-Wan, and especially Luke was an extraordinary many-years-long challenge that revealed their weaknesses and how they overcame them-just isn't a challenge for her. Sure, she "struggles" with her identity and parentage, but they make her stronger almost instantaneously. Her trouble reconciling with her powers and the choice of becoming a Jedi is akin to a football prodigy choosing which team he'll play for. This makes her character arc weak, it makes her seem invincible. That's not a quality anyone can relate to.

TazorNissen yeah it’s been two years and I still can’t quite believe she’s gone. They said they couldn’t make the film without her do they got permission from her daughter to use unused footage from TFA and TLJ to complete her story. Reminds me of Paul Walker and Furious 7.

I agree that the Rey and Kylo stuff was the best part of the movie. However, I feel like that was kinda thrown away by both characters completely going back to exactly how they were before that moment. Would have been much more interesting (and better for Rey’s character) to see Rey turn to Kylo’s side after being told Luke and her parents hate her, to finally find a “home” with him, which to me would make much more sense for her character and make her more interesting.

Poe's "prank call" to Hux definitely went on 10 seconds too long. I'm not a fan of forced, MCU-style humor (e.g. GOTG 2 and Infinity War), and TLJ had some jokes that undercut the drama at times. In retrospect, TFA and especially Solo handled their humor extremely well -- this seems to be a lost art nowadays.

I watched a video comparing Infinity War and The Last Jedi, and one critique I never considered but totally agree with after having seen it, is how upbeat everyone seems at the end of TLJ, despite the fact that like 90 percent of the Resistance is dead, whereas in Infinity War, the consequences of half the characters' deaths are immediate and resonate with the survivors. I understand that the point of Luke's sacrifice was to inspire the rebellion to be reborn, despite their heavy losses, but maybe at the beginning of IX they could have a sort of memorial service for Ackbar, Holdo, Han and everyone else that they've lost along the way, just to acknowledge their deaths in a more meaningful way. It doesn't take away from my enjoyment of TLJ, it was just something interesting I didn't consider my first few viewings. Keep up the great work Alex!

I think the issue with the hyperspace ramming is not "why has no one done it before?" Its more about what happens going forward. Every space battle we see in future episodes, people are going to be thinking "Why don't we just do what Holdo did?"

I think the only issue I had with Rose was that I thought we'd be getting a look at the perspective of the rank-and-file member of the Resistance, and how difficult war has been on them. So much credit needs to be given, whether it's the Rebellion or the Resistance, to those no-name soldiers and support staff of the struggle. The loss of Rose's sister really had me thinking that this was where her story would be taking us. It sort of did, but not as much.
@Outlawrockman

Yeah, I largely agree. I’ve been saying since it was released that Last Jedi was a good movie, but it just needed a few minor tweaks to make the three subplots (Poe, Fin/Rose, Rey) meld together seamlessly. To me, Last Jedi was equivalent to a final exam paper that just had a few typos and an incomplete thought (Plasma) midway through.

@chaoszieg how does a, say, B+ paper become an F after a few minor errors? It doesn't. Essays don't work like that. TLJ was a C+ paper (at worst) that could've been a B+.
