The thing that is worse about Akili Smith is that he was drafted 3rd overall--in 1999. If that particular draft sounds familiar, that's because it's the draft where Mike Ditka's Saints traded their entire draft, plus an additional 1st and 3rd, to Washington to select Ricky Williams. Why is this significant? *DITKA OFFERED THIS TRADE TO THE BENGALS FIRST.* They gave up an entire extra draft to select one of the worst QBs ever. No wonder they've been known as the Bungles for so long.
@@George_Fl0yd Scared of the name? Not at all. That team is so crappy that it doesn't deserve a name, so I will continue to call them by one of the only places in the world as crappy as they are.
Fun fact, Ken Dorsey was the QB coach for Josh Allen in Buffalo when he was drafted, and was just promoted to offensive coordinator for the Bills after Brian Daboll got hired to be HC for the Giants. Goes to show that you can suck as a player, but have something to offer as a coach. Not always the case.
That was me as a wrestler. I never won a state championship myself but I have coached four kids to state championships and one to a national title as well.
Akili Smith was just the peak of the Bungles era of the 90's. He was just completely terrible on a terrible team, but at least he helped the team be bad enough to get the number 1 pick to get Carson Palmer and 20 years of actual QB stability. Dalton was never elite and shit his pants in the playoffs every single time, but he was at least competent enough to get us there.
@@napalmblaziken After his "retirement". But since the aforementioned Dalton put the 2011 Bengals in playoff contention, a mid-season trade was made, and Palmer got his wish. After he got the money from a contract extension.
Kim McQuilken had a negative adjusted yards per attempt for his career. That is unthinkably bad. You would literally be better off punting on first down than taking a chance letting him air it out.
Aaron Rodgers is the worst QB ever. I can't believe how many times he has just stood there and watched as his defenses and special teams crumbled. Terrible. A real QB would motivate their team to play better.
0:31 Ryan Lindley 0:53 Kim McQuilken 1:11 Elvis Grbac 1:34 Dan Darragh 1:52 Jimmy Clausen “led the team to the 1st overall pick.” 2:14 Gary Huff 2:37 Akili Smith 3:00 Mike Phipps 3:30 Chad Hutchinson 3:54 George Herring 4:18 Mike McMahon 4:48 Jerry Tagge 5:16 Brock Osweiler 5:42 Curtis Painter 6:10 Blaine Gabbert 6:42 Brodie Croyle 6:59 Andrew Walter 7:25 Charger Ryan Leaf 7:49 Rams Nick Foles 8:12 Rick Norton 8:33 Christian Ponder (looks pretty awesome compared to these QBs) 9:00 Doug Flutie 9:25 Danny Wuerffel 9:47 Joe Posarcik 10:13 Bryce Petty 10:36 #1 Pick King Hill 11:04 Kent Nix 11:27 Ken Dorsey 11:47 Kelly Stouffer 12:11 Bruce Gradkowski 12:38 Lynn Dickey 12:57 Ralph Guglielmi
Curtis Painter went to high school in my area and he was an All-American, we are very rural so it's a big deal that someone from here would make it to the NFL, yet no one here seems to acknowledge his existence
I used to work for a football communications organization and to commemorate the start of the NFL season they let us wear our favorite team's gear to work. Imagine my shock when a girl from our office showed up that day in, of all things, a Brodie Croyle Chiefs jersey! In 2015 no less! I know you shouldn't mercilessly mock people in the work place, but tell me she didn't deserve it!
I’m from Kelly Stouffer’s hometown. The high school he played for is now a middle school after consolidating with another town’s school, there’s a picture of him playing for the Seahawks against the Raiders in one of the trophy cases. It’s too bad the only pro my ole hick town produced was so bad.
This list reminds of the time I went to a 49ers game and watched Bryce petty beat Colin Kaepernick. Another reason Kap might not be getting opportunities in the NFL
Hey Barry i love the videos and the commentary. I think the only way to make it better is to show us highlights or in this case lowlights so we aren’t just looking at stats the entire video
@@richardrice8076 It’s sad but it’s the organizations fault. I think it’s risky to not build up weapons around Justin Fields while he’s on his rookie contract.
@@Andy-fg7hm Again agree. You think about all the great q.b.s over the last 20 years. Would they've achieved the same success here? I doubt it, look at the team Mahomes is on. If the Bears would've drafted him he woulda been gone by now. It's a combination of coaching and management.
Bortles has set Jacksonville back at least 8 years. They passed on many QBs in the draft because they believed in Bortles. They wasted a historic 2017 defense. The Jaguars are finally able to rebuild now, 8 years later.
This isn't related to this particular video but I just watched your ranking of every NFL mascot and it gave me the idea of ranking every NFL fight song. It's also something very personal to each team and some are definitely better than others. NFL fight songs deserve more love imo
"... which is no small feat, no offense to Rex Ryan" bruh I was drinking a monster when he said that and let me tell y'all they don't feel great in your nose
Dan Darragh's stats were so spectacularly bad you almost have to think they can't be real. Some of these videos pick Gary Marangi as the Bills' all-time worst QB, and while Marangi was putrid, this vid gets it right in going with Darragh.
I’m surprised Barry didn’t put out a rant video on Tom Brady coming back. All the young talent in the AFC and NFC and that dude is going to ruin the league again by winning his 8th ring lol.
What's also funny about Stouffer is the Seahawks thought they were finally over him when they drafted... Dan McGwire. Who they later thought they were finally over when they drafted... Rick Mirer. No wonder Matt Hasselbeck felt like a star in Seattle.
Fun Fact: Colin Kaeprenick was so bad, he got benched for the “immortal” Blaine Gabbert, not once but TWICE! That’s prolly why he’s no longer a starting quarterback
Late but yes, he was god awful, that’s why he wasn’t in the league also, he has 5 picks in one game, and as a niner fan I don’t get why other fans wanted him in the league starting so badly, aside from the controversy that happened in 2016
New England Patriots : Tom Brady. Tom Brady has a woeful 203 interceptions in his career. He missed 34% of his throws and has a disgusting 63% winning percentage in super bowls. In his career, he lost a whopping FOUR super bowls, which is tied for the most all time.
As a Rams fan I still remember being so mad when Nick Foles won a Super Bowl after disappointing with the Rams. It was the only year I've actually rooted for Brady in a Super Bowl and of course he lost.
Jerry Tagge had one good season with the BC Lions of the CFL in 1977 before ending his career as a backup. Joe Pisarcik played with my hometown Calgary Stampeders in the middle 1970’s. After another loss in 1974 a fan called in to post game call in show on the radio. He obviously wanted to complain the play of Pisarcik but was so angry he had trouble trying to pronounce his name!
I was a season ticket holder in Calgary in '76, Joe's last year there, when he lost the starting job to Tom Sherman at the start of the season and then was cut shortly after the arrival of John Hufnagel. He was notorious for throwing the ball so hard that he hurt his receivers' hands. There was much laughter in Calgary after Joe's infamous play in '78. Two years after that, he was backing up Ron Jaworski in the Super Bowl with the Eagles.
The oddest thing about Tagge is that he played high school ball for GB West. West didn't have their own stadium at the time, so they used the only football field in West Green Bay.... Imagine making it to the pros only to play on your old high school field.
As a Colts fan, I humbly disagree with the Curtis Painter choice. Sure, he was awful, but his performance led the Colts to Andrew Luck. On the other hand, Art Schleister was a star QB at Ohio State, and was drafted in the first round to replace the great Bert Jones. Unknown to the Colts, he had a gambling addiction, and after a mediocre rookie season, he deteriorated into a complete addict. He was kicked out of the league, got in trouble with the mob, spent significant time in jail, and was reduced to trying to trick wealthy old ladies on Ohio River showboats into giving him money so he could keep gambling.
*SPOILERS* Cardinals: Ryan Lindley Falcons: Kim McQuilken Ravens: Elvis Grbac Bills: Dan Darragh Panthers: Jimmy Clausen Bears: Gary Huff Bengals: Akili Smith Browns: Mike Phipps Cowboys: Chad Hutchinson Broncos: George Herring Lions: Mike McMahon Packers: Jerry Tagge Texans: Brock Osweiler Colts: Curtis Painter Jaguars: Blaine Gabbert Chiefs: Brodie Croyle Raiders: Andrew Walter Chargers: Ryan Leaf Rams: Nick Foles Dolphins: Rick Norton Vikings: Christian Ponder Patriots: Doug Flutie Saints: Danny Wuerffel Giants: Joe Pisarcik Jets: Bryce Petty Eagles: King Hill Steelers: Kent Nix 49ers: Ken Dorsey Seahawks: Kelly Stouffer Buccaneers: Bruce Gradkowski Titans: Lynn Dickey Commanders: Ralph Guglielmi
2:00 Jimmy Claussen had a better rookie year than did John Elway! (Compare the stats.) Elway = 47.5% completions, 54.9 passer rate. But Elway was a big-money #1 pick; Claussen was a 2nd round selection. So it was bye-bye to Jimmy.
Well, when Elway debuted defenses were still allowed to kill quarterbacks and mug receivers. So it's not fair to compare him to a rookie who started over twenty years after Elway's rookie season.
The funny thing about lists like these is how it requires being better than almost everyone who never goes pro and their reward is getting dunked on mercilessly.
It makes me crack up that I bought my dad a Lynn Dickey Packers jersey a few years ago as a Christmas gift, since that was his favorite QB in the sucky GB years. I had no idea he was a bum in Houston. Gonna have to show him this video.
Ravens could be three quarterbacks. Tony Banks got benched for Trent Dilfer after going 1-3 and later winning the Ravens a Super Bowl. Elvis Grbac after Dilfer just beat teams who had plenty of talent Broncos who recently won a Super Bowl, the previous years AFC Champions in the Titans, then beat the Raiders who were in the Super Bowl two years later. Dilfer did not have an easy run to get that Super Bowl he deserved to be the starter the next season. Then draft Kyle Boiler. Ravens somehow have had more QB Hell then the Bears and they still have more Super Bowls than us. Maybe the difference was Baltimore actually had somewhat of an offense.
Says a lot about the Vikings QB history if Ponder is considered the “worst” never expected him on this list. Sure his career didn’t pan out, but I never considered him terrible in the NFL. But to be fair im an FSU fan so maybe im biased
There's an argument to be made that Tarvaris Jackson might have been worse than Ponder, but overall just a lot of mediocrity and one-year-wonders in Minnesota.
I have a hard time believing Christian Ponder is the absolute worst Vikings QB given the long history of stop gaps and failing to live up to expectations at the position the Vikings have had since Tarkenton.
I'll always remember Bryce Petty for getting sandwiched between an unblocked Ndamukong Suh and unblocked Cameron Wake. He got absolutely destroyed on that play.
You should have bent the rules for Christian Hackenberg. 2nd round pick that was so bad the coaching staff couldn't justify even giving him garbage time snaps.
Like everyone else when i saw this I started guessing who he’d say for each team…I knew he’d say Ponder. I really thought Ponder would be fantastic so extra whammy for me
...enjoyed the content...just would've like to know the actual year(s) they played for a franchise or what year they were drafted or traded for...especially some of the older ones...Tagge, Phipps, etc...
Jags fan here. Thank you for correctly labeling Gabbert as our franchise's worst QB. He once ran play-action on a Hail Mary against the Steelers in 2011. That play sums up Gabbert's time in Jacksonville perfectly IMO.
Seeing Andrew Walter on this list hurts. His sophomore season at ASU was my freshman year (2002). Damn was he electric to watch. Broke the Pac-10 single game passing record that year with 536 passing yards to upset Oregon. By the end of his college career in 2004, he had shattered the Pac-10 all time passing TD record with 85, taking the record from none other than John Elway. When he was drafted by the Raiders, I actually wanted the Raiders to do well, and I'm a Chiefs fan. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.
As a Texans fan, I can agree that Osweiler wasn't the greatest quarterback. The team was really good at the time, but the qb just sucked. Now, we are in the process of rebuilding, and I must give Davis Mills credit for the improvement he's made since the beginning of the 2021 season. Starting out as a rookie backup on a team that was in a really bad state, I can't imagine it was easy for him or the others to get back on their feet, but I'm hoping they will continue to do so this year.
A lot of these guys played in a different era when 50% completion rate was the norm and interceptions were expected. The West Coast offense changed all that. Shorter, higher percentage completions became the rule. Some of these guys actually called their own plays too!
George Herring is a good pick, but my nominee for the Broncos is Steve Ramsey. Ramsey to me lacked in what it takes to be an NFL quarterback, but to his credit he managed to win some games in Denver and also led the team to their best record at that point, which was 9-5. Finally, I happen to think the quarterback rating is really a stat dependent on the total quality of the offense.
I remember that Brock game being pretty close for a while and they might have had a chance if Will Fuller hadn't missed a perfect moonshot in the end zone.
