I’m surprised you didn’t mention Hunter J from Diamond & Pearl series, she’s easily the most badass villain in Pokemon and actually felt threatening. She was very entertaining to watch each time she showed up imo.

Yes Diamond and Pearl was truly the definitive pokemon anime, or as I call it the golden age of pokemon. This series just did everything right. Like giving Ash actually character development and making him a smarter trainer.

Both DP and XY are up there as my favorites, but DP sort of comes out for me just from having watched it the most. Dawn is one of my favorite Pokémon characters and love her development. I think the reason it's so long is because there's so much going on in this series. You have Ash's main journey, Dawn's pokemon contest, the episodes featuring rivals of both Ash and Dawn, Team Galactic, Hunter J (anyone remember her?), so many Mini-arcs, all on top of the filler. Going back to J, I don't think Pokemon has ever done something like this again where there was a standalone villain outside of Team Rocket or the evil team for that generation.

Sun and Moon is currently the best series for me. Aside from Ash winning league, the supporting cast were fun and likeable, Team Rocket were amazing and their pokemon were awesome (all hail Mimikyu), and it was not afraid to tackle the subject of death. I never thought I see a pokemon die on screen but it finally happened on SM.

One thing that no pokemon anime had before that Journeys has is unpredictability.. Pokemon had the same formula for literally 6 regions with very little changes.. Sun & moon was a bit different but not too much.. But Journeys on the other hand, is mixing things up like never before.. There's excitement in almost every episode.. Even in most of the filler, there's either Goh catching some cool pokemon or a minor world coronation series match with Ash, which spice up the episode.. All the regions, pokemon, companions & rivals that the anime has showed for more than 20 years are being finally mixed in order to make the quintessential pokemon anime series.. (which might also mean it's Ash's last)

Journeys definitely has potential to be one of the best Pokémon anime series to date.

Although I love all the seasons including best wishes whitch I am a fan of, but diamond and pearl is honestly the peak of Pokémon, however I have to say that I like how Pokémon is doing new things every generation and it nice to see Pokémon expand on different topics and settings, awesome video!

Dp will always be my favorite since it got me into the franchise, I need to see the others though since it’s been a while

My favorite of All time Will be Diamond and Pearl, i feel is the most complete series that I ever seen, Ash with an Amazing Rival, Dawn and the contest being improved and also Ash and Dawn learn each other to get better, Infernape being one of the most well developed pokemon Ive seen, Ash and Paul Rival Story was amazing!, Bringing back his pokemon of the league was wonderful!, Brock having a dream also helps a lot, Team Galactic Story was good too and connect since the beginning of the 1st episode. Everything about this Saga was amazing and I know fillers also have to be a negative point, is not perfect but for me was the most complete Saga from All.

Here's all the series ranked in my opinion, I rank Orange Islands as it's own league mostly because I really don't find it fair to the OG series, as it would certainly weigh it down in terms of placement. 9. well, I'm a huge XY and diamond and pearl fan but I'm also kinda liking the pokemon journeys . for me, diamond nad pearl is second and XY is the best but I will not be surprised if shortly pokemon journeys overtake both diamond and pearl and XY to become the best series till now.

Kalos League is my favourite, Next is Alola ;)

Here is my list, keep in mind if we are not counting Journeys which is my favorite as of 2020, then this is the list, 1st/2nd/3rd place is a 3 way tie between The XY series, DPP series and SM series. They all have there pros and cons, but I can’t bring myself to rank one worse or better. DPP has an issue with poor pacing and to much filler. But everything done in DPP series outdoes the two series before it, contests are better, Dawn is easily better than both May and Misty. And other things such as rivals, battles of any kind and potential from the games is used and is better than what we had prior. They include the pokeathlon in Sinnoh even tho it’s in Johto. And little details I can pick up on like Ash’s rival Conway during summer camp being kidnapped and almost killed only to be saved by a wild dusknoir, he later uses a dusknoir in the league that you can theorize is the same one that saved him which is a great detail. Sun and Moon and XY have problems as well but they are polar opposite, the former goes overboard with comedy sometimes while the ladder takes itself to serious when it doesn’t need to. The former also panders to gen 1 way to much and the ladder has little to no continuity. But both make up for this by outdoing there own games by making the evil team better than the game or putting a spin on how Guzma would play out. They both are absolutely amazing as well and outdo there cons just like DPP but they all hold the same weight in terms of pros and cons. 4th place goes to the BW series, this series is misunderstood and hated on way to much, it does so much for future series and I won’t go to into it because I already wrote an essay in college That is 12 pages long defending and reviewing the entire series for a class on writing long essays. But I will sum it up because I’m about to bash 5th and really bash 6th place. Iris is a misunderstood and underrated character that is almost done perfect and is literally Misty done right. If you want me to explain one day I will but not right now, this comment is long enough as it is. Cilan is fantastic, the filler is some of my favorite, some of my favorite gym battles like Ash vs Clay and My favorite two part episode Ashvs Roxie which I recommend to watch in English because I love everything about it, those are really good, and Team Rocket is probably my favorite in this series because of there arcs, that’s another thing the arcs with meloetta are amazing and with meowth pretending to be good, team R being serious and not in every episode is really refreshing and it is something this series has over 1st through third if not the only thing. Team Rocket only show up when the plot deemed it necessary where as before they would be there just to be there, like trying to steal Pokémon during a gym battle and it isn’t Ash’s Pokémon there trying to steal. Like fossils during Ash vs Byron. What BW did is much better storytelling than what we had in series prior. it’s writing style was fresh. XY and SM took the best aspects and improved upon them and learned from any mistakes, same as P.J. Team R isn’t in every episode of XY and SM which BW first did. I get the complaints and can defend most of them except a few. But I do understand, if only the EQ never happened and they got to do what they originally wanted, most people would probably love BW or at least grow to like it more, it would be underrated just like gen 5 my favorite gen in terms of almost everything. 5th place is AG, this series really was a step up from the OG series, May was done pretty well and just general improvements overall. They basically took Team aqua and Magma and told the game story. Almost that is. And the battle frontier which is the only season I will watch in English because I grew up with Sarah as Ash and cant stand the original voice. I thought the final season was the best. It has some major problems like doing nothing with Steven Stone at all and not including him in more than one episode, they underutilized his character. And never introduced Wally, but Sawyer from XY was supposed to be Wally with a twist. Just like Paul is basically Silver from Johto with a twist. They probably didn’t want both ash and May to have rivals with green hair, either that or wanted to focus more on May and didn’t want Ash to hog the spotlight, which was smart, but DPP showed you can have both characters have rivals and it would work out, and finally the filler isn’t necessarily bad it’s just the most forgettable, but that’s better than being awful. In 6th place or just last is the OG series, and I have to say I fucking hate this series with a passion. It’s not completely bad, 20% of it is good, I won’t bitch about everything because I also wrote an essay on it as well in college this year. But here are my 3 biggest gripes. Shoutout goes to awful animation and very few good battles, #1 Some of the worst filler and Johto shares this but with bad pacing as well, #2 some of the worst characters in terms of missed potential and writing, Misty is a great example of that and I would explain right now but I will explain at a later time. #3 and this is the worst, the most missed potential I’ve ever seen, never introducing Silver and get to see The rivalry between Ash and him, and never see the dynamic between Giovanni and his son, and I hate this the most, besides Gary being a great character but a terrible rival, never Letting Ash meet Giovanni or battle him at the final gym, instead we get an all be it clever tie in to a shitty movie, sorry but I hate the first movie, more so the English version because 4kids is trash and that’s why I refuse to watch the first 8 seasons in English. DPP was my first series, saw the 1st episode when it debuted and never missed one. Back to my point, they hype up Giovanni and make him seem intimidating and you know they will get to battle and it won’t be amazingly animated but it would still be pretty good, and it’s thrown out the window to have my least favorite episode of Pokémon ever. The iconic episodes and the just generally fan favorite ones are done well for the most part but everything else is just plain dog shit. Johto was at least good for satisfying gym battles for the most part. But that’s my list. I don’t want to hate the OG series because after finishing dpp at 10 years old, my friends said “hey watch OG it is really good.” I went home and binged it and I hated it, told my friends a few months later and they stopped being my friends over it, I tried to like it and misty in game is one of my favorite gym leaders. But they ruined her in the anime.

JN (Haven't watched it yet either, but the art style and animation looks slightly better than SM and the plot seems better, so I'll probably end up liking it more than SM)

Ash and Paul kind of represented actual players at specific moments Ash: Genwunners who caught their Pokemon because there was no breeding or big game mechanics Paul : Focusing on the most competitive Pokemon available and getting rid of those that don't meet his qualifications. Similar to players these days who breed for competitive VGC Pokemon

Honestly, this is exactly how I rank the series as well! (Though where I put Advanced is pretty much guesswork since its the series I've seen the least of). I'm glad that you gave Sun and Moon a chance and found out how much there is to love about it! And I definitely think you're right about Diamond and Pearl being the perfected formula of the Pokemon anime. When you look at it that way (and just how badly BW flopped), it's easy to see why they switched up the series so much in following gens. Once you've peaked the only options are going downhill or switching things up. I'm glad after BW the anime got experimental and tried new formats.

Here is my list. 8. Unova, Good graphics, alright episodes, everything else is not so good. 7.Hoenn, My least watched anime but its alright. 6. Johto, Also did not watch much but I did like the beginning of it. All in all good for me. 5. Kanto, Love the original but the graphics are hard to watch, but it is always fun so its good. 4. Galar/Journeys, Its here right now and I love the direction they are headed with the story. I love to see old characters come back and the battles look so nice. 3. Alola/S&M, I used to hate this series because of what they did to ash but it was hard to put it at top 3. Love almost everything about it, and the end was the one of the sadist endings ever. Rip S&M. 2. Sinnoh, Holy cow this was hard but there was one big problem about this one 2,000,000 episodes. Everything else was cool. Paul hopefully we see you fight ash again pls. 1. Flippin Kalos/XY baby, I love love love this series. This was the first anime I think that I watched fully when I was 8 years old and everything is nostalgic and good, and satoshi gekkouga!

for me XY XYZ is The best..that is what really got me.All of the characters were so good. Every character had their part to play. Sun and moon is 2nd for me.

I've only watched BW, XY, and SM, and I would definitely like to start watching DP soon For the one's I've watched, I must say that I'm surprised I ended up liking SM just as much as XY, the first season was a bit boring which made me think the series won't be that great, but the following ones were really great. SM's battles to be honest were pretty underwhelming coming from XY, since most of them are just using a Z move and instantly winning, but I enjoyed the characters and story of SM more than XY, I liked the "main gang" almost equally, with XY maybe having a slight edge, but to me all the other characters were a lot more interesting and fleshed out in SM compared to XY

As much as I prefer XY/Z, seasons like Diamond and Pearl and Sun and Moon were great too. I just chose XY because personally, it had more memorable moments and was really awesome to watch with that Team Flare arc. From Diamond and Pearl, we got the best rival Paul and good pokemon from Ash's team and more. And the same can be said for XY (even though Paul was better) I really enjoyed Alain and Sawyer and how they viewed Ash. But I completely understand and respect why you chose Diamond and Pearl and the same goes for others' opinions too.

I've been working my way through the Pokemon anime since 2018 (oh god, it's still going..) and D&P was hands down the best. They really perfected the existing formula as you said, taking the best parts of the previous series and sharpening them up to make something that wasn't just "good.. for Pokemon" but something that I would enjoy watching even if I weren't a fan of the franchise. Even though gamewise I don't particularly enjoy Sinnoh, they did a good job capturing the feel of it on tv. The Pokemon also had a LOT of personality, Dawn and Piplup had me laughing out loud occasionally which was not a thing in the previous series. By the final season I was legitimately pumped up for the league battles. I'm nearing the end of Black and White and hoo boy am I ready for this one to be over.. I do like the recurring side characters like Langley but feel that they went overboard and included too many to the detriment of the main trio. The best part of this series was when Dawn and Piplup showed up for a multi-episode arc. Battle-wise it's less impressive than D&P but not as bad as some of the early seasons.

I don’t know why XY is so high up? The weird ass Malmar arc was creepy, odd, and it didn’t really end. They just left and said they’ll come back to rule the world.

Haven't seen SM yet but I agree with your list 100% (aside from SM of course, can't say anything about that one just yet). I feel that the villain arc and the fights are awesome in xyz but Ash lost some of his personality. Sinnoh companions were a lot more dynamic, interesting, and memorable and I love the pokemon contests! They're soo gripping and entertaining. On the same page with BF, it's the only thing I remember of AG, aside from May and Ash's battle. Great vid!

The thing with ag is that everyone loves the other series (besides best wishes) and forgets about it but things that were brought up in ag were used in other seasons Like ash being experienced( except for best wishes) Good use of companions (except best wishes)

Why D&P was the best: -Best Rivals -Best companion(Dawn>>Serena:Fight me) -Best league -Best battle in the entire series (Ash vs Paul) -It also has the best story any pokemon ever had in the series. Also the movies were really good.

My Ranking: 1. XY 2. SM 3. DP 4. ADVANCED 5. OG 6. GS 7. BW Journeys might end up being my number 1 though, have to wait for the series to end.

One thing I like is how they were able to fix Ash’s character post BW, more specifically in SM and Journeys in which he is still a goofball but not an idiot that eats paint-chips and doesn’t know how to tie his shoes. Sun and Moon is one of my favorites because the focus isn’t on Ash but the growth of his friends and I think that is when the series is at its best. DP is still good but as a kid after Advance the usual Pokémon formula had gone stale in my view.

7. Advanced, it was so forgettable and the voice actors for Ash, May, Brock and Max in Battle Frontier annoyed me. 6. Gold and Silver: Eh. It was just....eh. The only parts I remember are the parts where Ash competes in the Silver Conference. 5. Best Wishes, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be, but I can totally see why some people hate it. Ash is dumb, but it makes his character kinda funny and enjoyable. 4. Sun and Moon: I would place it higher, but the first season drags it down A LOT. The episodes were boring and very forgettable. However, the next 2 seasons were amazing. 3. Indigo League, the only season with basically no filler. Sure, Orange Islands was..not great, but I still enjoyed it. The art style was also pretty cool. 2. XY/XYZ This anime came out when I was really getting into Pokemon, so it will always have a special place in my heart. Also, the characters are really well written and the battle scenes are incredible. 1. DP. This is the only series where I can wholeheartedly say I enjoyed every episode. Dawn is the best Pokegirl in my opinion, and Ash's team was at its best.

Since I am currently rewatching both Diamond and Pearl and XYZ series, I tend to agree with you. Contest are more interesting than Showcases and the whole fact that Dawn and Ash both learn from each other's battling styles makes it more interesting. Plus, overall I like Dawn's pokemon team more than Serena's pokemon team. However, I would still choose Ash-Greninja over Infernape when it comes to Ash's best pokemon. Even the whole Cacnea and Dustox moments with Team Rocket are more memorable than anything Team Rocket did in XY. XY still has the best villain storyline and the best gym battle ever (Ash vs Clemont). Paul is a much better rival to Ash than Sawyer ever was. Very close but Diamond and Pearl is number one.

Honestly you can't really enjoy the Pokemon anime unless you watch from the very beginning but the way Kanto ends might make newcomers quit before they even get to the best parts like Kalos Alola and Sinnoh.

I went back and rewatchched xy today and it felt like reuniting with old friends😄 I loved ash's gym battles and serena's growth in her performances! I also loved how ash was like a mentor to Sawyer and watching their battles👍

My list is similar with few changes: -placed GS Johto series as last and BW as 2nd last; Johto was the reason I fell off, as the dull formulaic episodes drained me. Especially what happened to that ball. You know, the ball? -placed SM a bit higher than XYZ; I love this Ash a lot. Despite the shoehorned comedy, the man's matured and expressive

Diamond and Pearl was the show I never got to watch as a kid but when I could I fell in love. X&Y was more accessible when I was a young teen so I remember that more and enjoy it.

I never watch the Alola anime, but as soon as I saw the Revolutionary Girl Utena reference at 5:55 I knew what I was going to do this weekend lol.

My list would go, 1) DP 2) SM 3) XY 4) Advanced 5) Johto 6) BW 7) Kanto Journeys is not on my list because it’s still new, but I definitely think it surpasses XY.. just not sure about the next two In depth of my top 3: 3) Kalos/XY: I loved the XY anime. All the companions were great, and it was nice to see them be inspired by Ash, and they all had different personalities. Serena’s relationship with Ash was both cute and heartwarming, but I just did not feel the connection between her and Ash as much as other girl companions, and I can say the same thing about Clemont as well. I will give props to the battle animation though, because it is absolutely gorgeous. I found Ash’s personality to be a bit stale, and although many people make him out to be mature and badass, I found that it made him a little less expressive and fun. However, it did bring in a serious tone to the series which may be perfect for some people but it’s not really my cup of tea, especially for Pokémon. XY had less episodes, so less fillers but still there were some episodes that I genuinely struggled to watch all the way before XYZ came along. 2) Alola/SM: Alola was different, to say the least. It took on a completely different art style, and it pains me to see that some people never give it a chance because it looks way too different. The animation was as fluid as it can get and the battling animation was still amazing, despite not utilizing the 3d camera as much. I prefer Ash in Alola, as he was a lot more expressive, fun, mature, yet still had that serious battling personality. I often hear that Sun and Moon made Ash seem immature and like a 6-7 year old, but I would respectfully disagree, as I think he’s a lot more mature but still has that kid inside of him. He still inspires all of his friends, and I personally loved all of his companions and their unique personalities. Despite them not getting as much development as another, I liked how different they acted, yet their chemistry is off the charts. I can say the same to Ash’s alola team as well. They all had fun, cute, and serious personalities and their interactions with other pokémon were a lot more heartwarming than in past generations. Sun and Moon did take the comedy to the next level, but I love it and it just shows that the artists really made an effort to have really exaggerated comedy scenes. Also, the comedy didn’t feel forced like in the past either, for example, Chespin and Oshawatt were both pokémon I felt were written to be funny comedic reliefs, but they just felt way too forced and it got annoying at times. Rowlet is the comedic god and just felt natural and that’s that 😂. I personally loved every arc that Sun and Moon gave us, and I really enjoyed the slice of life. Ash had a second home, and he made the most out of his time in Alola, and I love it. 1) Sinnoh/DP: This takes the top spot and will probably forever take it. It’s not just the nostalgia that makes DP so good, but every single aspect of it. Dawn, is my favorite girl companion of Ash and I loved their chemistry. They both supported each other through tough times and fun times. However, my personal favorite thing about their friendship is that they both influenced their battling styles for both contests and battles. It was SO COOL to see Dawn inspire Ash with a new move and witness Ash perfect it, and vice versa, which just shows that they were not just best friends but mentors to each other as well. Brock was amazing too, and although he was rarely in the spotlight, I always loved his prescence and comedic romance. After he departed the anime, it just felt like the first chapter of pokémon came to an end, and it will never be the same again. Now the rivals. Paul, Barry, Conway, and Nandi were all amazing rivals and friends of Ash. Paul in particular (my favorite rival), acted as the complete opposite of Ash, and his influence towards Ash for his way of catching and battling was a sight to behold. Ash was probably the closest ever to punching someone in the face 😂, and he truly wanted Paul to respect him as a trainer and for his own philosophies. Dawn’s rivals were amazing too, for example Zoey and Kenny. I loved how they pushed her and taught her how to really bring out the best of pokémon in contests, and as the story progresses, Dawn continues to get better as she reflects on what everybody teaches her. Ash’s Sinnoh team is by far his second or even the best team ever, and they all had distinct personalities like his alola team. The comedy was perfectly balanced in DP, which made for a great watch. There were a lot of fillers in DP, and some were worse than others, but overall I still enjoyed most of the episodes. DP just had this certain charm to it that really gives it the edge in every way possible, and is overall, my favorite region from the pokémon anime.

1.Diamond and Pearl - Tobias 2.XY/XYZ - Start great in XY and had the potential to be the best series but as it advanced it become a pure trash 3.Advance - great and funny episodes 4.Jhoto - Ash's begin to show an improvements as a trainer 5.Indigo - classic 6.Black and white - beginning of the Show's downfall with Ash's eyes changed 7.Sun and Moon - I can't stand the art style. why???
