As a long-time PC gamer, one of my go-to troubleshooting methods for USB is to try a different port. Also, always have the dongle on the same side of the machine to where you're using it. I once had to run a USB extender cord so my dongle could detect my mouse reliably.

Haven't had this issue with my PS5, but I personally like having those dongles in the rear of my PC and I was having connectivity issues with a wireless mouse and keyboard. To prevent any accidents with the dongle sticking out, I decided to be a little more creative with the position of mine. With the GTbeans 24pin magnetic USB-C rightangle adapter, I use the same on my tablet, so I can very easily switch between the two. I have no problems with this setup. Dead easy to remove and replace, and no accidental breaking of any USB ports. I'd highly recommend it, if you don't use that USB-C in the front for anything else.

As a PS5 and Pulse 3D user, I can confirm this. I used the back USB ports in the beginning but I had connectivity and sound issues. I have a different headset but I had the exact same experience. I have a Turtle Beach headset. I had just gotten it and I loved how it sounded playing audio from my phone and from the PS5, and especially how it could play audio from both at the same time, when it actually worked with the PS5 that is. It didn't take long to start experiencing connectivity and sound issues. I thought my awesome new headset was defective. It was the first really expensive headset I'd ever bought and I was very upset but it occurred to me that I should do what I would do if I was using it with a computer, switch USB ports. I did that and the issues immediately stopped. It hadn't occurred to me that it was the heat that caused the issues. I was just happy it was good.

Sounds to me more like a wireless signal issue than anything else, as a rule of thumb, you want those RF transceivers to be in direct line of sight and in close range, as they usually don't have good antennas (to save cost, space and have better aesthetic for the most part, people just don't like an antenna sticking out, even though it's still the most viable effective solution) and these devices usually have to operate in high RF noise environment (a lot of devices operating in the same frequency allocation) so the range is usually a lot more limited than people anticipated.

Alternatively, you could use a USB cable/adapter that you plug into the rear port and hide under the PS5 where it's out of sight, or somewhere else where it's easier for the headphones to pick up the signal. You can plug the dongle into it. (This might be optimal for steelseries 7+ users.) This way you don't have to use the front port and you won't accidentally damage the PS5.

I plugged my Pulse headset in the back when the console first launched and it kept overheating and the dongle would shut itself off so the headset lost connection until I unplugged it and had it cool off. It seems like after some kind of firmware update last year it never overheated again and I've been using it plugged into the back ever since with no issues. I assumed it was maybe an issue with the USB port at the time, because my console isn't blocked in the back and when the dongle got hot, it was like it was internally hot and not hot from air getting blown on it

Thanks for the info on this issue. Mine is still acting up despite being plugged in, up front. I have a Turtle Beach 700 set.. Should I trash and move to another? Set up and independent BT Transmitter, and use my AirPod Pros? Acts up big time during PVP modes Destiny 2...

pro tip: instead of plugging it into the front, you can also use a USB extension and not have it stuck out the front like some kind of horn. it will pull it away from the exhaust and it won't overheat

Do u already use a extension ' so the dongle is still in the back without getting heat from the exhaust of the PS5 ??

I have not run into this issue yet with my pulse 3D headset and I plug into the back port. Its very good to know though. Now I'll know what to do if I ever have a problem.

I don’t have the Pulse 3D headset yet but anticipate getting them when I have the extra money to spend. I hadn’t thought about this but it makes total sense and almost seems obvious when you actually describe it. Thanks for the tip, your videos are the best for newer PS5 users. (Your PS4 videos rock also)

My Logitech headsets dongle used to get pretty warm after an hour or so of use. My ps5 sits on the middle shelf of my desk and is open to the air. Exhaust vents warm it up quick even with proper airflow. I’ve started plugging my g923 wheel into the back now and the headset in the front. So far no problems

Hit this particular issue today. Even worse on PS5 Slim since it has no frontal USB-A connector... So definitely gonna need an extension cord.

Hi nice information I have connected two type c cables to back ports for charging 3d headset and controller ...will it cause any heat related issue in long run

What if you used a usb extension cable to prevent it being next to the vent? And does the usb 3 at the back help over the usb 2?

I use it in the back. Not had any issues since launch. After you turn on the console from rest mode if the head set was charging then it might have trouble detecting the dongle but all you need to do it’s turn the head set off and then on again and it’s back in business and you can start gaming in no time.

I have used the front since the beginning, but I plug the type c charging cable at the back, will it cause damage to the charging cable ?

For the price they really should build the dongle's wireless signal component into the PS5. Extra cost not everyone might need, but they also put the PSVR PS5 adapter cable in the box of every PSVR after a certain point too. It would just be a nice touch at any rate.

I did notice connectivity issues, and it was super hot when I removed it. It sits in the front port now

You could also buy a short female usb adapter cord a few inches long to prevent damage and exhaust heat

Wouldn't using a short usb extension cable solve this problem? Which I haven't experienced myself.

You can also buy a USB extension cable and tuck the dongle where heat is not a problem...

also getting a USB Extension so it can sit at the front of your TV is the best thing todo, I have a Microcenter near me in Kansas and i can get a good USB Extension for less than 10 bucks! My Series X, PS5, Switch And X700V2 Sony BluRay player sit behind my TV due to space at the front but have plenty of ventilation.

Any chance your tv can go off for that reason? Meaning hdmi signal getting lost because the hdmi is right next to it

Does the ps4 headset dongle work with the ps5 headset? Can get used headsets for 30 bucks, if it works with my dongle I'll get one. I haven't upgraded mine yet and they are falling apart.

I got the a50 plug in the back and the steel series plugged in the front. If you want to change headsets, press ps button to pull up audio and change output.
