It's also the most gimmicky fight in the game (Galeem and Darkhon is harder, but if you play smart it's manageable and nothing really feels unfair). There are certain timings and attack combinations that are all but impossible to avoid getting hit for most of the cast, and there's a dozen ways to get cheesed and die super early. Or if you get unlucky, you can win and not die but spend so much time waiting out dangerous attacks that it only gives you 0.2 to the intensity.

Master/Crazy hand makes sense for Meta Knight for 1. Being 2 sides of a coin and 2. Master hand was a miniboss in either Amazing Mirror or Squeak Squad, which was the "origin" of the Smash ability in Kirby

Funny thing about Sonic's fight with Incineroar, is how ironic that in a route filled with some of the fastest characters in the game, they decided to throw in the SLOWEST in the game too.

For Wario, I believe that the Master and Crazy Hand boss references Rudy the Clown, the final boss of Wario Land 3, whose fight mainly has you dodging his massive hands. Maybe it was unintentional, but I think it’s neat to see that game get referenced.

Snake's Classic mode where he fights another snake is not him fighting a clone, its him fighting the REAL Snake (The original Snake) Big Boss/Naked Snake hence why its alt 5. Naked Snake in MGS3 had a Green outfit.

Another detail about Pit's Route: In the battle against Bayo, it plays Hades theme music. In Kid Icarus: Uprising, there's a level that takes place inside Hades' body, and throughout the level his enormous arms teleport out of nowhere and punch at you. Arms of a deity teleporting out of nowhere to attack you? Sounds a lot like Bayo's Smash Attacks.

I feel like Sonic representation in Smash is making as much as they can with what Sega gave them. We didn’t get an echo or more music, but we got two assist trophies and stages and the return of tracks that were skipped out on Wii U

For this set here is what I would replace certain Master Hand fights with Pit: Dracula, I feel this better fits the Hades reference AND the theme of dark enemies. Wario: Giga Bowser, due to Bowser being absent and being a VERY stong hitter this would have fit way better. Ike: Dracula, HE WEARS BLACK AND RED C'MON WHY WASN'T HE THERE? Lucas: Marx could be counted as a magic user if you ask me and would have been cool. Sonic: Galleom: Sonic's bosses are mostly GIANT ROBOTS! King Dedede: Ganon or Giga Bowser, because KINGS Olimar: Marx, because SPACE, and Marx appears in MILKY WAY WISHES

The Snake vs Snake fight uses Tiger Stripe, which is one of the primary camo patterns for Big Boss in MGS3.

Snake fighting Diddy Kong in his classic route could be a reference to Mesal Gear Solid, the crossover Metal Gear Solid had with Ape Escape. Diddy resembles those Pipo monkeys, and could be a stand-in for Pipo Snake. In fact Pipo Snake used a Banana Gun, which is a combination of two of Diddy’s special attacks.

I like how in Meta Knight's Classic mode the 'good and evil' characters are facing each other before fighting you, while the ones that are relatively on the same side are not. I love little details that are subtle and genius.

For the shiek fight in Sonic’s classic mode I’m pretty sure that sheik is supposed to be a representation of Shahra, the genie of the ring from secret rings.

I mean, I see it, but I see Shiek as a stand-in for Erazor. Shiek in general uses sharp objects to attack, and in Ultimate specifically she has a Ninjato which could be a replacement to Erazor's giant razor.

Literally any other boss fight besides Galleom and maybe Marx (don't know much about him) would fit better for Dedede. Giga Bowser is Bowser, Ganon is Ganondorf, Rathalos is the apex predator of most areas he's In, and Dracula is the king of his castle.

For when we get to Ultimate fighters: Something clever I noticed in Dark Samus's route (The Great Poison) is that when fighting the Pokemon (worst part of that route imo) Ivysaur joins you on your team bc Ivysaur is a Poison-type.

Snake fighting Diddy Kong is also a possible reference to a mini game in Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater where your goal is to capture cartoony monkeys from the game Ape Escape. Just thought I'd bring that up.

16:38 Interestingly enough, while Tri Force Heroes has Toon Link’s design for the Links, the Links in that game aren’t actually Toon Links and are rather based on the Link from A Link Between Worlds. The developers thought that the Toon Link design would make things easier to follow on the 3DS’ screen.

Sonic's classic mode should been themed around third-party fighters or just have the theme based around other Sega franchises (of course they would have to choose fighters that aren't from Sega but but specific character would have to be chosen because of a similarity from either their design or their abilities)

I think some changes I would have made for the bosses was pit gets Dracula cause I think he’s fit the dark/evil theme, ZSS should get guant Ridley cause that’s her nemesis, Wario should’ve got Giga Bowser cause Mario characters and heavey-weight, Ike should’ve had giant Mii Swordfighter with the Black Knight costume, Lucas should’ve had Marx for the magic theme, Sonic should’ve had Galleom to reference Eggman’s robots, DeDeDe should’ve had either Giga Bowser or Ganon, and Olimar should’ve had Marx cause his stage looks very space-like (and I think Rosalina got him with a similarly theme Classic Mode).

Some additional notes: - R.O.B. fighting Galleom could also be a callback to Subspace Emissary, where R.O.B. plays a major part in the story and eventually gets to fight Galleom alongside his new comrades - Fighting against a team of three Pokemon could be a reference to Triple Battles, since those were still a thing back when Ultimate was first released (thanks, SwSh, for taking the franchise backwards in several aspects!) - Likewise, a team of four Inklings references the fact that that's how many players there are per team in online Splatoon matches

3:07 actually the bowser and bowser jr fight is reference to the twin bellows boss fight from uprising because they're both demonic fire breathing beats they even have the boss music playing so this obviously has to be a tie back to the 1st boss

Unrelated to Brawls character but i love Jokers classic mode as it's just stuffed with Persona references. Like how in the fight where Mass destruction plays you fight Samus who represents Aegis and in Persona 4 fight you fight Dark Link referencing the "Iam the shadow, the true self!" thing from Persona 4.

You may be missing a thing on Snake's route, MGS has a crossover with Ape Escape, on AE you have some themed levels and Snake himself on the game, and on MGS 3 only on ps2 subsistance edition, there are some minigames involving the apes and you have a gun that soots bananas to stun them

Couple other things about Snake's route: the fight against the other Snake uses the camo outfit, something that Big Boss (or Naked Snake as he was known in MGS3) used in his own titles, so the fight itself is a reference to Snake's multiple encounters with Big Boss who is one of the villains in the MGS series, most notably in the original 2 Metal Gear games. The boss battle with Galleom is obviously a reference to the actual Metal Gear fights like you said but Galleom was introduced in Brawl, like Snake himself so it's a nod to SSBB as well.

I think the Pokemon Trainer route having a fight against another Pokemon Trainer at the end is supposed to be a reference to fighting your Rival in Pokemon Red and Blue, and Mewtwo is a reference to its encounter in Cerulean Cave on that same game

I have a theory on why we get so many flippin Master/Crazy hand fights. There were probably meant to be 2 more fights, 2 since one light and one dark for story, but these were cut for the story mode and so they couldn't use them for Classic mode anymore. That or they wanted to use Dharkon and Galleem which would end up as too hard to actually fight in such fights. Now ghat I think about it, that might be it actually
