I almost feel like the judges enjoyed it as well, and there were more good surprises in the reaction/critiques, as opposed to good work getting less praise because it was expected of someone.

YES! I always say that too!

Literally and they will consider an edgy black and grey tattoo on a girl bad because it’s not “feminine” enough even though the art is good and the client is happy🤦🏻‍♀️

Maybe they just know the color palette these female artists lean toward? I dont know but it’s a thought.

@@kekkelpenneypeckeltoot5700 There's several examples of the judges saying, since the tat was more feminine it must have been done by a woman, they've even critiqued artists for putting "dark and harsh" tattoos on women canvases even tho thats what they wanted. They've been surprised when a technically solid more "masculine tattoo" was done by a woman. Their bias is pretty clear.

They purposefully push artists out of their comfort style and they have them do things they'd never normally do, you can see in Blund critiques when they're surprised a certain artisy did something because they didn't think it was them. There's even been artist that never had a chance to showcase their signature style because it never came up in their challenges.

@@user-ho7mg9ol7w never reveal who the artist is. i understand for the flashes there wouldnt be a winner or an advantage, but they have way too much bias if they know who did it tbh

@@Beanz-on-Toast My point was that all artists have a sort of style. Something in their art work that makes you stop and say I know exactly who did that, no matter what they do. It's not the tattoo itself, it's the way they draw it. I have seen the show and I know the judges have been unable to tell who's tattoo belongs to who, but then there have equally been a lot of tattoos that you look at and go I know who did that. That's what my point is. After a while, the judges will start recognising styles so it will still be biased

@@imdva my point is that you don't need to. Every artist has a different way of drawing or colouring. With a lot of people, once you get to know them, you start recongising their stuff, even if they're doing something completely different just from their drawing or colouring techniques (their style). Tattoo artists are no different. Even in 'blind' judging you can easily tell who's done what tattoo. I mean, it's like recognising a Holbien. The way it's painted, the colouring, the way the facial features are drawn. Tattoos are another form of art after all, just on the skin

Just a different way to add drama tho. The coaches reactions can elicit drama tho.

I agree with some of what you say! tbh sometimes the judges go too harsh on a tattoo which isn't even bad considereing the time span they have and they also forget to point out the goods in a tattoo :/

Thats how i was but i actually start to notice the details that separate good and great

sometimes i feel like they care mostly about technique and application and designs can be basic or rough and they still get a pass. for the average person you'll meet who doesn't know anything about tattooing, a shoebill tattoo is a hell of a lot cooler than a rose. maybe that's just me idk. i like more unique pieces. technical application is easy. show me creativity!

I totally agree with you. A lot of the masters irked me when they got beat by their apprentice. The shining exception was when Duffy schooled EVERYONE with the Victorian throat piece. And her master Kruesman was really proud of and happy for her!!

This is reality TV not reality, production has cut this together to increase the percieved drama. Do not assume any of these reactions were at all related to what we were shown. Enjoy the art and don't take anything else serious with Inkmaster.
