In X-wing Alliance, an old pc space fight Sim game, you played as a family with a couple YT-1300's. Each one looks like the Millenium Falcon, but only have one laser turret on the top, were less maneuverable, and had a lower top speed. Later in the game you have a chance to fly as the Millenium Falcon, and you get the benefit of both laser turrets, extra maneuverability, and higher top speed. *If memory serves, I played it last over 20 years ago.

The Otana is one of the well known of the YT-2000 freighter models.

I like the YT-1930... seems like an easy "modifcation" would be to have a module for the mandibles that contains a couple of heavy blaster cannons and a proton torpedo launcher thus turning the "light freighter" into a heavy fighter (think F-14 in space).

I had some books from Starlog that had Millenium Falcon blueprints. These books were from the 90s, and before Phantom Menace. I preferred that layout to the official 2020s layout. It featured a kitchen/galley behind the circuit bay Han and Leia had their firsr kiss in. The YT-2000, the Otana, is my favorite.

Great summary, although there might be 1 issue, the wookiepeedia (which might be wrong) says that the cargo of the YT-2000 is only 15 tons larger than the YT-1300.

im VERY partial to the 1930, my TTRPG character had one and modified it into a bomber using TIE Bomber Munitions. She also had chunks of TIE fighter imbedded in the mandibles from a mid air collision with said TIE fighter because the other players manning the turrets couldnt hit a barn if they fell on it.

I like to think the YT-series actually goes back thousands of years, with the Ebon Hawk being an early one. It's estimated the Millenium Falcon is over 100 years old by the time of the sequels, and it's known that Star Wars ships often serve for hundreds of years (and presumably the companies; look at Czerka which both canonically and in legends survived 4000+ years). So, it would make a lot more sense. If you go by the Heir to the Empire series, working YT-1300's were rare just a few years after Endor, so realistically there's got to be a lot more newer models out there than what we've seen in lore (maybe which don't fit the classic YT mold or are significantly smaller). The YT-1300 was considered older by the time of Shadows of the Empire, with the YT-2400 considered fairly new.

Well I love how years ago everything was a “modified Corellian YT-1300”. Examples from the Galaxy Guide 6 : Tramp Freighters. The Oo-Ta Goo-Ta and the Solar Flare.

I've been working (very slowly) on a SW fan fic with a character named after myself, via an old SW RPG character naming strategy. After Order 66, he was gifted a salvaged YT-1000, a C1 droid, and an AC-36 pilot droid by Bail Organa, and began working as a pilot running freight and passengers in the Outer Rim, to avoid the Empire. The ship was named "Wanderlust", because of all the traveling he ended up doing. I even had a small, low-detail, model of a YT-1000 3D printed to help with my imagination. Later on, the Wanderlust crew joined the Rebel Alliance.

The 2400 and the 2000 do it for me. I may be biased because of being the target demographic for Shadows of the Empire and X-Wing Alliance though...

YT-1930 has to be the peak of the line, seems like you get the most bang for your buck and a little of everything that came before it plus the most stable flight of the line

Give it up for the Otana, from X-Wing Alliance - a 25yr old-ish game that’s aging like fine wine. I highly recommend real Star Wars fans (not Disney SW fans) give it a look. The YT-2000 and -2400 are truly unique designs, from back when they actually cared about the products they put out.

Gotta love how they make up some weird stories of continuity about something a kit-basher came up with in the 1970s with the models he had at hand. The problem with modern sci-fi is also, that every design must be purposeful. Purposeful from our point of view doesn't mean it needs to look like anything we would make up, with our minds. I wish there was a little more randomness, especially in Star Wars, these days, again.

Since we saw the milenium falcon in ep 3 it doesn't make sense because we know that then it had the escape pod and was blue

One thing you didn't mention about the YT-1300 was that there was a center cockpit variant. That might well be my favorite, but I do have a soft spot for the YT-1760 as well.

If I was to build a form of merchant fleet in the Star Wars Legends universe, I would definitely go with various models of YT freighters. Maybe a couple of VCX-100s and a modified Pelta-class frigate or two.

10:35. That's it? The ship that was at the center of Shadows of the Empire, the biggest Star Wars expansion pre-prequels, and all that's mentioned is that it's Dash Rendar's ship?

YT-1300: Ok, right off the bat... the _entire existence_ of every other YT-series ship disproves the whole "it has to be a tugboat because the interior space is insufficient for cargo" theory. While I won't deny that cargo pods are a valid use for the mandibles, the YT-1300 is the only YT-series class that even has those mandibles. Every other YT model either lacks mandibles entirely or sticks a cockpit in between them. In reality, while the YT-1300 can be used as a cargo tug, that's not its primary role, and this functionality goes more to show how versatile the ship is. As a separate note, the ship's overbuilt engines are there specifically because CEC wanted to make the YT-1300 more sporty than previous YT models which were generally considered to be sluggish. The YT-1760 has even more heavily overbuilt engines despite its design making it completely useless as a tugboat. As a reminder, _not all freight is bulk freight._ Also, pilots who did find themselves needing more cargo space but had to travel to ports that didn't have support for intermodal containers (i.e. any ground-based spaceport) could purchase external-mounted, cargo containers that were basically a glorified roof cargo rack. These containers were not climate controlled or airtight, however, so they were only good for carrying goods that weren't sensitive to the vacuum of space. YT-450A: Not really an in-setting fact, but model makers seem to have headcanoned a design for this ship by kitbashing a Star Trek Defiant-class with parts of a YT-1300. YT-700: Yuck YT-1000: This is what I mean by other YT-series ships disproving the "tugboat" theory. If there was no place in Star Wars for small courier vessels, if the only way to ship cargo was through bulk and intermodal shipping routes, there'd be no point for this ship to exist. Anyway, other than being the first "modern" YT-series vessel as well as evidence that low-volume cargo shipping exists in the Star Wars galaxy, this ship is unremarkable. YT-1100 and 1150: I've seen a lot of people headcanon this as being a more primitive version of the YT-1200 or some sort of combination of the 1000 and 1200. YT-1200: First off, your labelling on the images of the ship is incorrect. The sensor boom is the rounded boom on the port side of the ship, the dorsal boom actually houses a loading crane - this is actually the main reason for the YT-1300's mandibles as well, except instead of a physical crane the YT-1300 has short-ranged tractor beams, which allow it to use the mandibles as both a crane and a connection point for various modules depending on the job the ship was needed to do. Anyway, it's kinda funny that you say the side cockpit is a standard feature of the YT-series when only the 1200, 1300 and 2400 canonically had side-mounted cockpits (the 700's was offset but still on the front of the vessel). YT-1210: This is literally just a YT-1200 with an extra engine. YT-1220: Looking at its usage case, I wouldn't be surprised if this ship was just a passenger variant of the YT-1210 or YT-1200. YT-1250: This is literally just a YT-1210 YT-1760: This thing is basically built for both bounty hunters and fast couriers. Its improved maneuverability and speed makes it good for both urgent deliveries of low-volume high-value goods (like medical supplies) and for pursuit. YT-1930: If you actually look closely at the hull design, you'd find that this is actually just a YT-1300 with the conventional cylindrical engines options, a center cockpit and permanently attached external cargo pods. YT-2000: This is my favorite YT-series ship. It's a beefy, rock-solid vessel with lots of internal space that could maneuver way better than it had any right to. However, the YT-2000 actually had one significant flaw - it was too big for landing pads designed to accept earlier YT-series vessels. If you've ever played Star Citizen and flown a Caterpillar or C2 and tried to park it at ArcCorp, the game will often assign you a landing pad meant for Constellations and parking the ship ends up being a tight squeeze. This is a similar situation to what a lot of YT-2000 pilots would encounter. YT-2400: Advertised as "having every major feature of the YT-1300 in a more compact package". Yet lacks the mandibles of the YT-1300 that make so many people assume that the YT-1300 has to be a dedicated tugboat. Hm, maybe the "tugboat" role of the YT-1300 is more of a happy little accident than the ship's intended role? Sorry, it's a bit of a pet peeve of mine that people immediately jumped to the conclusion that the YT-1300 HAD to be a dedicated tugboat after seeing the concept art of a YT-1300 carrying intermodal containers, simply because the Millennium Falcon (which doesn't even have the stock interior layout and was specifically kitted as a pleasure yacht with smuggling capabilities) had "insufficient" cargo space for a freighter. YT-2550: Yuck YT-5100: That is literally just a YT-1000.

I just realize that the design of most of these remind me of the Kilrathi Dralthi´s from the Wing Commander games.

I don't know, my fav is still the YT-600. the "Ford truck" of the YT class. really small, really light cargo, only 80 tons cargo cap.. max of 5 people, 2 crew 3 passanger or 1 crew 4... it wouldn't really be all that special except that its easly modifyable. its small, its light, it can go places larger freighter and shuttles cant... 60' long, 50' wide, 10' high... you can park it almost anywhere... and for a "hero ship" its small size and such makes its just feal right...

I've vastly preferre the legends origin for both Han Solo and the millennium falcon. So much more interesting then the solo movie, although the imperial Army in solo was intriguing but trying to cram all of Han Solo's origin in the one movie just lost too much.

You could say the Ebon Hawk from Darth Revan's era was an ancestor of the Millennium Falcon due to it's appearance and performance being on par with the Falcon. Perhaps this was purposely done by Bioware when they created the Ebon Hawk. To have a starship that is much like the Millennium Falcon to be a call back for Star Wars fans.
