I mean, the fanbase isn't static. It's constantly cycling through fans who all have different opinions and preferences, all of which are shaped by ongoing events. The "short quills" thing is just a part of a larger event - SEGA making Modern Sonic more like Classic (including them making him shorter and stubbier in Lost World, and making his fur lighter in Forces), when the whole _point_ of Classic Sonic was to be the original Sonic design made into a distinct "character" that can exist alongside and separate from Modern. The "green eyes" thing, from what I can tell, was a little more weird, since at the time Sonic wasn't "split" like he is now, so them complaining about a 2D Sonic game having the then-current Sonic design seems a bit odd, but we eventually got Sonic Mania which basically did what they were asking for, so I don't really have a point for this bit. In short, people see a larger problem or two (the "classicification" of Modern Sonic and his current inexpressiveness in animation/the poor animation directing), but only really know how to talk about its symptoms or smaller components, i.e. the quills and color change. I just feel like we wouldn't have this outrage if SEGA actually consistently made quality games and didn't learn the wrong lessons from every mistake they made. Like, how many times can they drop the ball? It's basically impossible to be optimistic as a Sonic fan.

I can fully relate to knuckles. They are always bringing up some garbage about nitpicks which aren't really problems. Just because his spines are too short, we have more important problems like for example: (mouth close to mic) ACTUALLY HAVING 57% OF THE GAME BEING GOOD AT MINIMUM!

I hate how accurate this is. I myself was CONCERNED when I saw the Forces model, but ONLY because I was worried about reused assets and a lack of animation carrying over (he has the same exact idle pose). The quills are something that ANNOY me, but I don't hate him for it, I just like them longer than Forces had. And I have plenty of other personal reasons as to why I'm concerned over Frontiers, namely stuff like a combat system (which has not been done well by either the main games or fan games yet) and how empty the environments are.

as an aspiring game developer I feel like I can answer why they could've used the forces model The forces model being carried over meant one of 2 things either 1, its a place holder or 2, they just decided to use the same model but tweak the animations a bit its been confirmed that it was a place holder so that means there will be a new sonic model but if it were just the same model this would be good (as long as they made a few tiny changes to the animations) because they would have more time and more people to work on other aspects of the game. so thats one of the main reasons it didnt bother me and i feel like it didnt bother me or most other game developers

Yeah I mostly agree with knuckles. While I do prefer longer quills , if they make sure to give this model plenty of expressions and movement then it could definitely work. Good video 👍!

Why does this have to be so accurate? I’m a Sonic fan myself, and I don’t care if they use the Forces model as long as Sonic is more expressive. Unfortunately, 90% of the fanbase is upset about it because of the stupid quill length. This is like getting mad about Paper Mario’s outline changing from black to white. It’s not that big of deal compared to, oh I don’t know, HAVING A GOOD F*KING GAME!!!

I'm fine if people prefer the model with the longer quills, talking about small details in character design in a constructive way is great. But I don't understand how someone could like the Unleashed model, but dislike the forces one. I honestly didn't know there was a difference in the model until the discourse started, because honestly, they look pretty much the same. Like most things on the Internet, this is turned into a situation where you are put into two camps, either a sega bootlicker who always praises everything they do, or you find literally everything to complain about and you'll never be happy. Of course it is a lot more nuanced than that, but a lot of the time that nuance is ignored. Honestly, as long as you don't tell people who like the forces model that they shouldn't because you personally don't like it, or telling people who are providing good faith criticism of the model that they aren't allowed to, then you're probably fine and don't deserve to be lumped in with people who aren't being helpful in any way.

Turns out they're not even using the Forces model, Frontiers trailer footage consists of footage from an early 2021 build, and you still see Sonic tubers making this look negative, "Oh, they're showing an early build a year before the game comes out, like, yeah, that's the same with many other games, and that footage is a year old by now, which is why the Dakii leaks describes the game as being a little different from what the trailer suggests.

Honestly? I'm not believing any "leaks" or "reports" from other SonicTubers or "insiders" till I see something official. I wrote this comedy skit nearly a month ago when everyone was panicking about the screenshot from Sega of Japan. Wait so that sonic frontiers trailer was footage from a year ago? I actually agree with both sides in this. Sonic is, for the most part, fine in my eyes. Maybe if they had more emphasis on his "cool factor" rather than.. whatever generic direction they're going at the moment, then there might be more attention drawn to him. You can keep his heroic, free vibe, without just ruining the character for people. Yes, his quills are shorter, and personally, I think they should be longer. He just looks.. thin, and dry. Sonic Generations literally made him look full of life, while Forces was literally if they just took Sonic from Generations, ringed him out like a rag and plopped him into Forces. His quills, again, looks shorter and weird in comparison to his older looks. He looks younger, or washed up the way he is now. His fur color went from a deep, cool blue to an old poster version of his former self. Generic is fine. The shorter quills are fine. They're still keeping the general idea of Sonic in their minds with this, it seems, but he's still not really in his best state at the moment, either. We're not saying "port the Generations model in", we're saying "make the new model look like a fresh version of Generations." Don't make a sequel, make a new version each time.

The Sonic Forces model is one of the cleanest looking models the games have shown in my opinion. And the dude is right, if they polish the animations on it, we could get one of the best Sonic models out there

I swear I am so tired of Sonic fans bitching about the SMALLEST shit when it comes to this new game. This video is so incredibly accurate that it’s both funny and sad. Short quills mean absolutely nothing, what I want to know is will it have a solid story (which it most likely will cuz Ian Flynn), will it have good Sonic idle animations even with the forces model, and will it have good gameplay. I don’t give two shits about the length of Sonic’s quills, it changes nothing about the game itself. Your channel is pretty underrated and you deserve way more subs, much love dude.

I've been in this fandom for 25 years. I lived firsthand through the jump to 3D, Sonic '06, the Sonic 4 green eyes arguments, and two complete English voice cast replacements. And even then, the short quills "controversy" is the most asinine thing I've seen this fandom bicker over.

I love Sonic, and some sonic fans...but God is this accurate. Knuckles is how I felt about this whole fiasco (if you can call it that). Admittedly, I do see some issues with the Forces model compared to other models. However, I thought fans were taking this a bit too far. Especially since it was a leak and could be fixed, likely anyway.

This was hilarious! Heheh But yeah I do agree with Knuckles more, but I also agree with Sonic too. Imo they really need to change the style up for the next game. From the looks of it, it seems like the development and designers might be doing such. Either way, yeah, I also agree that what we all should really be concerned about is the Story, Gameplay, and Mechanics. The only reason I came back into being active as a Fan is because of the Fan Games currently being worked on (P-06, Sonic Galactic, Sonic Hysteria, ect.) and a friend of mine recently streamed/played SA2! Not to mention the amazing fanart I've been seeing! It makes me feel as though I should come back! TL;DR Both are correct, but yeah Sonic needs to change his reasoning for being a Bitch. Also I'm aware this was a fun joke vid! 👍

I’ll admit, the only reason I honestly hated the Forces model (aside from the fact that it’s from Forces) was because of the lack of idle or even styled animation. Take a look at Generations, the most previous boost game that game out prior to Forces. The game had all sorts of animation, and even a (albeit small) hub world. You had stuff for when Sonic’s been waiting for a little bit, to a while, to “Where the f*ck did you go?” And that’s for TWO Sonic’s. And it came out 6 years prior. Sonic Team had admitted that they only had one year to animate and write the story for Forces, because the rest of it was used up on fixing the lighting when it looks even worse. And on top of that, Sonic’s character model does not move at all. Unless you’re pushing against the analogue stick to move forward, he does not move. Sit there for ten minutes, do a time lapse video, then watch it. Nothing. Other than the fact that for me the eyes don’t seem to match the model in any shape or form, I have no other qualms about the model. Maybe a little more blue but that’s nothing to complain about

I agree with their sentiment in that the Forces model is positively soulless, but right now I'm most concerned with whether or not they're actually trying to make the game fun.

I'm not gonna care as long as the game is fun but I still wish they'd make a new model. Theyve been using the same one for 10+ years with slight tweaks
