These should be so much more affordable. They're practically shoving people into the arms of 3D printing. It should be our "thank you" for being loyal and not going outside of GW.
These upgrades Sprues are the ultimate expression of "Space Marine Tax" because being the poster boy faction also means we are the faction that underwrites the entire rest of the game. so, of course, GW is gonna milk it. they make all of our start collecting and Combat Patrol boxes worse because they include an upgrade sprue for whatever chapter the box is trying to be, which means less actually useful plastic and less discount.
Just check the old Dark Angels upgrade sprue and hopefully you will understand that the new one is a pure scam from GW. So no, the new Dark Angels upgrade sprue is not good. Actually it's far from good
@@aldosuran6916 Are you blind? The firstborn dark angels sprue was almost a 1:1 to the old primaris sprue. It was bland as hell and when multiplied by 2 to achieve the same price as the new one, it has far fewer bits, it doesn't compare at all to the newest one.
@@johnnowak4620 yeah, pardon me. I was thinking about the old Ravenwing sprue. If you add all the additional stuff that came in DA Veterans box (legs, arms,.shoulder pads for terminator) and tons of custom bits in old DA Deathwing terminators box I think it's safe to say that the new boxes are a joke compared to the old ones
I bought the ultramarines one when i started a few years ago and was pretty happy with it since i was excited to customise my marines for the first time, then i saw the firstborn upgrade sprue and how much more aesthetic it was. I've only bought the firstborn one since. A new uprade sprue would be nice tbh.
Got one of the Firstborn and a bunch of the Primaris ones for my new army, but man I'm jealous of the Blood Angel-onwards style ones with more bits and more variety :(
How to personalize your Space Marines Army: Step 1: buy the GW Primaris Upgrade sprue of your respective chapter for your characters Step 2: buy the Horus Heresy sprues for literally everything else because they’re so much better
Those Heresy sets work great for CSM. Using 2 of the Command squads for Chosen. I'm just waiting for plastic Breachers to expand into Death Gaurd. Cause I'm still an Iron Warrior at heart and a Big Honking Shield is a good way to confer the extra toughness.
I just bought the legion command sprue and made 6 intercessors into bladeguard and an ancient. Thanks to your recommendation on the previous video for that sprue
I've bought multiple Iron Hands upgrade kits just for the transfers. The space marine transfer sheets with multiple chapters still lack the Iron Hands logo! I still appreciate the extra bionic limbs and cog tooth pauldrons for my all Gravis force.
Why not use the Horus herasy transfer sheet? You get enouth for a whole army and more. picking up an admech tranfer sheet might not be a bad idea either, they work nicely for iron hands
the ultramarine frist born upgrade kit can be used for Horus heresy minis (the chest might need some cutting and green stuff to fit perfectly but nothing to outlandish). if you worry about the lore keep in mind late heresy, the first MKVII armor was produced and the chest does not show a Aquila.
I literally was watching the older video from you about upgrade sprues earlier today! The coincidence the new one dropped on the same day is unreal lmao
Really highlights how bland modern kits have gotten. Those first born kits are just littered with flavour and bits. And that the first born design lends itself to extra upgrades like that chest. Id like there to be a generic upgrade sprue too. Just a bunch of imperium but chapter agnostic embellishment that most marines would have like purity seals, marksmen honors, servo skulls, reliquaries, unique arms or grips etc. The HH upgrades are nearly there.
Space Wolves guy here. Do get the odd upgrade sprue, but a box of Blood Claws of Grey Hunters box is so much better. Can pretty much use everything, in one way or another. Including a couple of torsos in each squad. A bit of Green Stuff or Milipit works wonders.
As a Codex Space Marine main, I am d r e a d i n g the dataslate. Can't wait for more of my army to be nerfed because divergent chapters are nearing 50% wr.
The blood claws kit is a really good shout for space wolves. It has tons of heads and shoulder pads, which work perfectly with primaris scale marines, plus loads of other bits like wolf tails, skulls, totems and banners. And with a little bit of conversion it's not too hard to make the weapons work either.
Hey Auspex! I noticed the slide showcasing the imperial fists upgrades showed the raven guard transfer sheet instead of the imerial fists one. Just wanted to point it out. Anyways, awesome video man, keep up the good work!
I've got a lot of mileage out of the Iron Hands upgrade set for my Horus Heresy force - the bare heads, bionic arms, shoulderpads, all the little mechanicum gadgets. The only thing that doesn't really work are the two MkX helmets. Really great set of bits.
Horus Heresy weapons set; Long volkite gun with the end flattened; Plasma gun end-cap thingy cut off and glued onto the volkite gun; Put on Horus Heresy marines = Easy 'firstborn' Hellblasters
Auspex, Legends is not the death of Firstborn. Just because there’s a chance the older Firstborn kits will go away, doesn’t mean they can’t still be played outside of tournaments.
The BT upgrade sprue is great and I’m sure way better than whatever they replace it with. I plan to pick up a couple more off eBay while it’s available. Between their sprue and all the extras in the PCS and PSB boxes they’re probably the best served chapter for ‘bits’
I know it's not exactly "upgrade sprues", but both the Assault Intercessor and Sternguard Veterans boxes has a load of bits and options in them. Same with the Black Templar Crusaders, though they're a bit stiff with their appearance, obviously.
When starting my Salamanders, I had one copy of the upgrade spru which did me well for my first 10 intercessors and thats about it..I saved the flame effects for my terminators and aggressors, but I have a bunch of WAY cooler and better 3D printed parts on the way which will last me for the rest of my army. So much variety going with 3D printed parts
The new blood angels one is cool to me. I think people hate on it. But it’s been serving me well. I use the bits on death company marines/jump packs. And I used bits on infiltrators and blade guard too
I actually just got my Salamanders sprue in the mail yesterday. I'm building a Promethean cult boarding patrol and wanted to make a couple nods to the parent legion. Even as someone working on a fairly tight budget, I'm not hugely bothered by the prices on upgrade sprues. Maybe my brain has been melted by microtransactions but I think I'd actually really prefer if they pushed upgrade sprue sales further. The unexplored benefit of doing all the mini modeling in 3d is that someone can go back and edit the files years later. Imagine how dope it would be to have an $80 flayer virus Nexcrons sprue that converted the whole range. Admech would pretty happily accept a pile of bits as a major release.
I can’t believe the raven guard one comes with a single beaky helmet. One? I don’t play raven guard, but the beaky helmets are their thing that makes them cool
No no no, don't worry, you get TWO! But yea, these are only good for actual characters. Sad part is there really aren't any good 3rd party Raven Guard bits either
I got the rage parts and the rage dread parts, very cool, GREAT QUALITY!, cant wait to get my brutalis dread buiilt up and actually looking like Death Company
I’ve been tempted to buy the Salamanders sprues just for the hammers even though I run Ultramarines. Now that the Horus Heresy melee pack is coming out I’m likely never going to buy an upgrade sprue.
The Horus heresy has out of print upgrade torsos that are pretty rad, I got my hands on white scars ones a while back about five on eBay and ended up getting like 20 and some bonus shoulder pads
@@OptimusMonk01 im gonna be honest with you chief, im not really mad about getting a hole kill team. For one i play kill team, and for two, you get 10 csm minis that are fully custom to your chapter, not just three heads some shoulders and few accesories.
One of these for chaos would be good, im converting a bunch of sisters to chaos and would love reccomendations for chaos bits boxes to convert their tanks, units and heros.
Honestly it’s such a crying shame that other armies don’t get upgrade sprues like this. I remember when I used to do nids in 4th edition, and all the biomorphic upgrades you could put on models that made me really feel like I was the one who decided how my models look. Some Skitarii rangers with their hoods down, some old civilian tools to scatter around my Necrons, different plasma weapon designs for my Votann, such a missed opportunity!
I got one set of the IH one and it’s the last I’ll do tbh. The IH heresy transfer sheet has been doing much better for me though. I just wish they’d let you have a custom one of the decals you actually want
what do you recommend for pre-primaris helmets? I really miss those angry/beak styles. will def try out the physical stuff on the sponsor tho... no iron hand equivalent alts as usual on fan sites though LMAO. I just want my cyborgs :( At least there's still the official sprue (although again, all primaris helmets)
I've always thought it would be smarter to sell these as smaller separate pieces. Should pads. Heads. Weapons. Maybe a set of "posables" to spice up monopose. Sell them for like 5-10 dollars each and watch them fly off the shelves.
It feels like their mentality for the Blood Angels upgrade was "Do you hate transfers? Congratulations, you'll never have to deal with them again." And, while i would prefer some fancier shoulder pads for characters, i do appreciate the army's worth of shoulder pads that they shoved into the DC box.
Picked up an iron hands 1. Needed an augmetic left arm for my lore chapter master and all the in-kit ones I'd seen (ie assault intercessor sgt) were right arms.
They should make upgrade sprues for chaos, specifically for the Nightlords, Alpha Legion and Iron Warriors. Make them with loads of heads and flavorful weapons and as a bonus a daemon prince head and a helbrute sarcophagus.
I stopped adding DW shoulder pads to rank and file soldiers and just use them for sergeants, due to how expensive those babies are. A silver arm is indicative enough.
The newer ones are alright but Dark Angels and Blood Angels felt like a bit of a step down from the Black Templars one. Also had a weird selection of transfers; I need squad markings and a lot of them not a bunch of random campaign badges, nice as they are.
As much I want to like the new Blood Angels sprue/transfers (and it IS an improvement over the previous Primaris set) it still feels like it really missed some easy opportunities: No Death Company shoulder pads (even though it came with the Death Company army box!), lack of different helmets, and still no transfers for Blood Angels Scouts!
I think the reason the ultramarines one doesn’t come with transfers is because I think every blister pack character comes with a pack of ultramarine transfers
I remain surprised and disappointed that GW has not done an adept sororities upgrade sprue, which ought to include the bits necessary for a multimedia, since the core sisters box doesn't have a multimedia in it. They need to either redo the core box or do an upgrade sprue.
My biggest frustration with the upgrade sprues is that the chapter icons are whole shoulderpads and so many of the marine kits dont have shoulderpads as a seperate component
As I am FINALLY starting my journey into WH40k minis (I 've played videogames and "consumed" lore for like 20 years now, not very deeply though), I thought about getting a Deathwatch army (yeah, I know, not the best timing) and I consider getting three upgrades, the Deathwatch one (X2), the Salamanders one and the Raven Guards one. I have an Infernus squad from the starter kit and want to get an infiltrators box next, so I want to make the first Salamander themed and the other Raven Guard themed Deathwatch units, as I find them more lore-accurate (Salamanders as fire users and Raven Guard for stealthy units). I know that probably mixing different backgrounds would be better, so I am open to suggestions.
As a newer Iron Hands fan, looking at the older sprue with bionic torsos and legs makes me sad. It really confuses me too how far away from bionics GW as veered as they aren’t Iron Hands exclusive whatsoever and are just easy fluff to make a Marine have veterancy.
I use the upgrade sprews for all my armies and I think GW is leaving money on the table by not offering more things. The newer sprews the Dark Angels and the Blood Angels have are realy nice by offering shoulder pads for Primaris, Terminator, Gravis marines etc. Had my hopes up for a Deathwatch pack so I could upgrade my terminators, but sadly they got the axe. So sad
I hope there is one dat where we can see upgrades for succesion chapters, in the xenos side, I would like to see upgrades for the Votann leagues, because all are the same with the only difference in the color schemes
Anyone know an affordable retailer that offers the roman style ultramarine bits? I've tried couple on Etsy and either slightly off scale or not the best quality.
I wander where all these cool sholder pads are, that you can get in SM2. I been looking for sick elite Ultramarine pads for a while now, but all i found really were the ones shown here. If anyone got a link, hook me up.
One of the many things I hate about primaris is that their chests are not interchangeable. So no more unique torsos on upgrade sprues. The new ones are pretty much all shit. BT got the only good one I’d say and even theirs is a massive downgrade from the og one
