You know what else is great? Your attitude ,all of these other gearheads are asking questions, they've all got enthusiasm, and you answer every one with same enthusiasm, that's the way to be! Keep it up,great job
@@waterzonegt9179 Sorry, just seeing this. I did make them, they were purchased from Mr. Gasket. Would be neat to make some though. Thanks for watching.
Nice build. We put a junkyard 400 and turbo 400 in my buddies. It didn't take long and he broke the rear. We got a 14 bolt from the junkyard. Had it narrowed to fit. No issues after that. Even with the 200hp shot of nitrous. It was running a 7.9 in the 1/8 mile.
I just bought a 86 s10 with a sbc 400..my flywheel is going to need to be replaced soon..but i cant get to the bell housing bolts due to clearance..any advice?
Possibly remove crossmember and lower transmission enough to g t some long extensions up in there. Good luck and thanks for watching. BTW, did you see my latest video? Another complete S-10 build. It just came off t Saturday…
If you are talking about that S-10, I actually sold it before I could get to the stuff mentioned at the end of the video. I didn't even want to sell it, but I got a super offer. However, I am constantly looking for my next S-10 project, I hope you will tune in when it happens.
chud327 hey man, I'm building me a truck for my first vehicle. I had a ton of questions to ask you if u don't mind helping me out. Was the transmission Manual? If it is/was what shifter did you use or was it already on the truck? I don't know much about the s10 but do they all have the one legger rearend? And my last question is do I have to relocate the gas tank when I put a muffler on the truck or no? Thanks for you help in advanced.
Sorry, just seeing your questions. 1st - Mine was an automatic, but I used to have a 5 speed blazer with a 4.3. The V8 will bolt right up to where the 4.3 was. The rear ends are most likely going to be one leggers from the factory. If you do dual exhaust on one side, the tank can stay. I have done it both ways, but I prefer to leave the stock tank in the truck. I hope this helps and is not too late, thanks for watching.
This was an incredible video man! I loved everything about the build and I really appreciate your knowledge on pretty much every aspect of that truck. And your shop was the greatest. No fancy garage with a lift! Great stuff dudw
Thanks so much for the awesome comment. I loved that build and I am always looking for my next S-10 body to slam another V8 into. If I find one, I will make you another video. thanks for watching.
snowmangsx1100 Thanks, I almost did another at the beginning of summer. Some guy was selling one in my town. I had an LS motor in it that had been pulled. Everything was there except for an engine and transmission and he only wanted $700. Long story short: It sold before I could get to it...
hey right down the street here from my house a garage has a pretty nice S10 body for sale,,its black with a raised spolier on the hood and aint to bad for 700 Dollars,,Id use it but my truck is much nicer and would make a cuter sleeper,,haha,,I might can get a photo of it and send you later.
Wow, that is a cool story. I love hearing that you had so much fun with it. I want another 4X4 S-10, my current S-10 is a V8 2 wheel drive. It is fun, but nothing like the 4X4's. What ever happen to it and thanks so much for the update and for watching.
Come to think of it, I had a grey one and a green one. I assume you are talking about the green one. Have you seen the videos of it on my channel? Thanks again.
that is dope man great video and great truck ,I bought me a 91 s10 and I'm swapping a L's motor 5.3 vortex , and you just help me a lot when it comes down to the drive shaft and rear end thank man 👌👌
I have a 98 factory 5 speed chevy blazer with the 4.3 that I'm gonna be doing a v8 swap to this summer .. For now it's my daily driver lol .. Thank you for your vids I love them !!!!
Herbert Humphrey Thanks for the compliment!!!. Good luck and if you run into any questions during your build, I am only a comment away. What are you going to put in it and are you going to make us a video?
Super impressed with the swap! I was just wondering what you did for a fuel system? Did you keep the return system or make it a returnless, also what was that fuel tank out of? Thanks!
Thanks and the fuel system was returnless. I used a tank out of an old VW beetle. Next time I plan to keep the stock tank with a pressure regulator and return, that is what I did on a V8 Blazer I did and it worked so great. Thanks for watching.
very impressive man,,did you use a old style gm hei disributor cause thats what I want to use in mine,,I have my motor 80 % complete and will start soon ,,gotta find a good trans,,I want a 700 R4 4 speed auto,,,good job man and let me know if thats a older style GEI disributor you used,,thats what it looked like,,,Rick
It was the old style HEI, I used it because they are great, they fit, and that is what I had. I want a 700r4 for my next v8 S-10 build, they are a great choice.
One_Clean _s13 I see it as simple, clean, and easy. Thanks for your comment / compliment. Did you see my 9 minute burnout compilation video from this morning?
If you watch my burn out videos, one has the ground, behind the plates, covered with black snow that is smoking. The kids couldn't figure out what all the black stuff was... Thanks for the comment.
I raced a guy that had put a 302 in a Ranger once, that thing was so fast. It had a stock 302 with little street tire on back, but he knew just how to drive it. That or it had magical power. Thanks for watching and for the comment.
I just built my 454 I’ve bored it over 30 and put 396 heads and camed the crap out of it but I’m not too sure if I need to get and weld motor mounts or can I use the existing mount holes as well as I’m not too sure which trans to go with to keep it manual
What exact gas tank did you use because I'd like to do the same setup? Not a fan of a fuel cell on a street vehicle. I have the engine and trans already in, but I plan on adding vortec heads and a bigger cam soon, as well as a Edelbrock carb, the holley is fouling my plugs and giving me terrible gas milage on a stock 307. Thanks for the video and it was entertaining to watch.
I used a 1969 VW Beetle gas tank, but if I could go back, I would use the stock tank. It has the electric fuel pump and the gauge sending unit. It sounds like yours in going to be really sweet, do you have videos of it yet? thanks for watching.
well I haven't made any videos on this build but I wish I did.. it came out pretty smooth...and im with u on tha burnouts lol ant nothing like smelling some burnt rubber...u got some kool vids to bro good job
I have an '89 s10 i'm wanting to do a 350 swap to but am clueless about it haha gonna have to give your videos a good run through several times :) thanks for sharing!
Gary Cifers It is my pleasure and the more time you watch them, the smarter you'll be. Thanks for the comment and good luck. Are you going to make us a video?
+ToadNumber55 Hey, thank for watching and for commenting. I just sold mine a few months ago and I already have the fever to build another, I think it is in my blood. I hope some day that I can see a great video of your S-10 with its V8. I suggest that you go ahead and start collecting parts and try to find a nice body. Good luck and thanks again.
I'm replacing my 98 s10 4.3 vortec with a older 350. My question is should all the gauges still work. For example my gas gauge indication, temp gauge and oil pressure
+Roofingandsons The gas gauge should be fine. I had to hook the oil pressure sensor to my V8 engine with a T because I had an after market gauge, but they both worked. The temp gauge also has a sensor that will have to be used on the new engine, but it should work just like stock. Good luck and let me know if you have any more question.
the truck was a 1988, but I can't remember the name of the headers. I actually found them on craigslist for $20. Wish I could help better and thanks for watching.
Nice build. What transmission did you use? Also I converted mine to disk brakes but they have no stopping power. I wanted to know if you had any idea why.
I used a turbo350, but would rather have had a 700r4. I don't know about your breaks, maybe bad booster, no vacuum, wrong proportioning valve... good luck and thanks for watching.
I didn't use the stock wiring, I ran a hot wire to the distributor to run it. The key only worked the starter on this one. Good luck and thanks for watching.
What transmission did you go with I’m fixing to start my build the truck was originally 2.2 5speed would love to stick with a 5 speed but just wondering what transmission would be the best for my application
I went with a turbo350, just because they are abundant and cheaper to find. I would rather have a 700r4 or even a new model auto. I love the idea of putting the 5 speed in one too. Good luck and thanks for watching.
hey a quick tip on bleeding your brakes,,next time your at auto zone buy you a a foot or so of wind shield wiper washer hose or some of the very small gas line that will cup over the end of the bleeder screw and hand to the ground or into a bottle and you can save the mess of it srpaying all over your rear housing and brake dust covers,,also if you can have someone to help you use a short enough piece of hose and let the end go down into a bottle of brake fluid and all you have to do is pump the brakes and release and it will take the air out,,long as the level in the bottle is above the hose it want let air get back in but requires the bottle to be close to the wheel cylinder.
snowmangsx1100 I used to have one that had a short hose and a magnet on it, but I don't know what happened to it. I should make up another and make a video. I am on the edge of bleeding the brakes on my dune buggy project. I'll try to build another bleeder device for that.
I would guess, and hopefully Chevy guys won't hate me for saying this, a narrowed Ford 9". They are strong and super easy to change the gears. I had one, but sold it with my old Camaro... I hope this helps and thanks for watching. BTW, I am a Chevy guy myself...
+Cory Boyle The cutouts are buy Mr. Gasket and I have had them for years. I never hooked them up inside of the truck, but that is a dream of mine for someday. Maybe I'll get a set of electrics ones. Those were Hedman headers that I found on Craigslist for $20. They don't make deals like that everyday. Thanks for watching and keep the questions coming if you have more.
Looking to swap my 91 4x4 ext cab and 'm deciding between just getting a tbi 350 and carbing it or taking on the possible headache of an ls. I am leaning more towards old school but not sure where to start and if some things that are already in truck will work and line up or not. Any thoughts be great, thanks! Love the video by the way, better than the others I watched
I have already done or had 3 old school V8's. I hope to do a LS next time, if I ever do another. They are more expensive to start with, but in the long run, I believe it would be less expensive to own and operate. The LS's have a ton of power too... If you want to build one on a budget, I would probably go with a old school... Either way, would work for me. Keep me up to date on what you do and thanks for watching.
Did the 3:42 rear end drop your highway mph and rpm? And by how much? My 3:73 and turbo 350 scream 3000 r.p.m. at 55. And what gear locker set and part numbers please! Also I seen your motor mount plates were cut and you used the top hole, so did you have any issues with that being lowered into the frame? Like hitting the oil pan or fuel pump? I just drilled out my mount holes and it gave me 1/2 inch more clearance for my headers and stuff just didn't wanna go to low to sit the oil pan on the frame. Man you're a top mechanical engineer!
I never got mine on the highway enough to test it, some one bought it before I got tag and insurance on it. However, when I went to 3.42, that was high than what it came with. It should have raised top speed and lowered rpm's. I don't know the locker numbers, it came in the rear end when I bought it. I know it was made by Richmond. I had no issues with oil pan, fuel pump, exhaust, or anything hitting. Thanks so much for watching and I hope this helps.
Wow awesome video! I plan on doing a 327 sbc with a th350 here in a couple months and was wondering, did you have to modify the transmission crossmember in anyway? Thanks and again great video!
I had to move it back a bit and use the back holes in the front crossmember holes. Then drill two new holes for the back holes. I also slightly modified the mount a little. Nothing big, no welding, just a little drilling. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
I put a 350 with a carb in my 98 s10. I regulated the fuel pressure to 7 psi. When first cranked my truck up, the fuel pump would just give like a 5 second burst of gas and that was it. So I wired the fuel pump to a toggle switch so I can keep in on when the truck is running. Should this method be fine or do you have another idea?
That is a great question and I would guess it would be fine. However, I have never dealt with this issue, mine just worked when the key was on. I assume it stays on all the time, but you may want to double check with a source that has researched it a bit more than me. Thanks for watching and good luck with your truck.
There's another easy way to check to see if a rear axle is open or posi is by jacking the rear end up so the tires r off the ground, put in neutral and spin one of the tires by hand, if they both turn the same way its posi, and if they turn separate ways it's open... And u mite wanna put a different air cleaner on cuz that stock one will cost u horsepower... Just a couple tips that mite u or others... Thanks for showing your build, looks like a fun little truck
Good tip on the open vs. posi. As for the air filter, that little 307 wasn't really for power. It was just a cheap, good on gas, sounds good, getting it running engine. Maybe next time, we will get into some power. Thanks for watching.
Have you ever seen the show Engine Masters on the motor trend channel here on RU-vid? If haven't you should check it out... They test all different High Performance parts on a dyno to give you real horsepower gains or losses...
I can't exactly remember what hoses I used. I think i was at the parts store and just looked at them. Don't tell anyone, but one was a Dodge hose, but I don't remember the details... Good luck and thanks for watching.
next time you bleed your brakes use a piece of windshield washer rubber hose and push over the bleed screw and let the hose hang down into a bucket on the floor so you want squirt fluid all over your pretty painted work,,Rick
I have used the self bleeder like that but i don't have one. I could build one, but I guess I am too lazy for that, maybe next time. Thanks for watching.
I had to modify the crossmember a little, but no cutting. I slid it back a bit and drilled new holes and the mount was a little custom too. I hope this helps and thanks for watching.
I am in Florida, where are you located? I would love to find someone that wants to finance the build and pay a some for labor. That would also be an excellent opportunity to build another couple of videos... Thanks for watching.
Im thinking about doing a project like this and was wondering if I could do it for 2 grand? just to get it driveable and than I'll put more money into it every couple weeks when I get paid
+Gavin Cayan There are a lot of variables that you have to know. Do you already have a truck? Do you already have the V8 engine? If you have either, you should be able to do it for 2K. Summitracing.com sells V8 swap kits for $500 - $600 and they have pretty much every thing you need but a radiator. If you look on Craigslist you can probably find an engine for $500. Did your truck come with the 4.3, if so you can use the stock transmission. If not you are going to need 2 or 3 hundred to get you a trans. Like you said, 2K could probably get it running and then put more money into it every couple of weeks to finish it up. I would think it would work. I want to see some videos when you get it done.
chud327 I'm picking up an s10 for 250$ and I can pick up an engine and transmission for about 600$ Unfortunately it was just a four cylinder but I'm going to buy mostly used parts. The only thing I'm buying new is the V8 mounts
did you have any problem with your headers hitting the shock mounts? my son is doing a 350 swap and his headers he bought are hitting the shock mount just enough to where he cant bolt it right up
I think this set fit perfectly, however, the one that I did before this one, I had to take a hammer and do a little denting to make them work. I hated to beat on my new / expensive header, but it worked. Hopefully, his header will not need to be dented too much and that will actually work. I wish I were there to help out. Thanks for watching and good luck.
I did not have to notch the cross member, I may have slid it back a little. I have done a couple of these and I know I had to slide it back on one of them. I used an S-10 rear end that some one had put a locker in. Stock should hold ok unless you put slicks on it. I have had 4 V8 S-10's and no have had any rear end troubles except for traction loss. Thanks for watching and good luck.
Hey man, you replied to me a while back and answered some queations for me on my search for a s10 bc I had sbc 327 laying around needing a home. I finally found and bought a truck in excellent condition with blown motor. I have another queation. I bought a 94' single cab gmc sonoma. 2.2L 4cyl 5 speed. What trans should I use from the choices I already have in my shop. A 350 turbo automatic that came out a 1980 corvette. Or should I keep it manual and use the 5 speed trans thats already in it. Seen that you can use that trans bc they sell a bell housing adapter for these swaps so that tranny can bolt to the v8 motor. I think having it 5 speed would be more fun but I'm wondering if the stock trans in it now will hold up if I bolt it to a v8 motor. I dont know anything Bout those transmissions in them early 90 models s10s. If they are good, strong, just ok etc...... If you dont respond ill know its bc you got tired of reading this long ass comment so I wont hold it against you if you dont make it this far down.. Lol..
I put a 350 in a 93 4x4 blazer that had a 4.3. I didn't need an adapter and everything bolt right up to the V8. However, it would not shift quick like I would have liked it to. If I were you, I would use the 2.2's 5 speed behind a V8. I would want a 5 speed out of a vette, Camaro, or Firebird, but that would be about $1000... the turbo 350 would work great and you already have it, but you would have to get a shifter and transmission cooler, which could be money that goes toward a better 5 or even 6 speed trans. The adapter would probably be kinda high and that could be more money used toward the better trans. It is just what ever you want to do really. BTW, I am so jealous that you have a 327. Keep me updated on what you decide...
chud327 Thanks for responding! Yea so the turbo 350 trans. I have come out my step dads vette bc he put a manual 4 speed trans in it. So i have the 350 trans and shifter already. Thinking I could go to a pick and pull yard like LKQ and get a trans cooler cheap. So sticking that automatic trans in it would probably be cheaper as I only would need a trans cooler.. Then when I found out I could make the 5 speed manual trans that came in the truck already work it got me thinking if I should do that instead bc originally I was planning on putting the 350 trans in it. I guess now my only concern is which trans is better and will last longer. The 350 will bolt right up but then my truck will be automatic. The trans in it now I can make work so I can keep the truck a manual but wondering how long that trans will last taking it from a 4 cylinder motor and bolting it to a v8 motor. Don't wanna buy the bell housing to make it work then destroy the trans bc it can't keep up with the v8 ya know? And yea I got lucky running across the 327. Guy had a 64 impala and wanted a 454 put in it. He let me keep the 327 that we pulled out of it.
Nice that you already have the shifter too. An oil cooler should be cheap even if you have to go with a new one. I am getting excited about your build.
I have the 4.3 on my extended bed s10, other then the motor and a motor swap kit what all would i need to replace? Its my impression that the stock trans will be able to bolt up to the 4.3.
I did a V8 swap into a Blazer 4.3 4X4 and everything behind the engine was all stock. The trans was stock, but I did put a new clutch into it. I don't know if the stock clutch would have worked. Everything on the front of you 4.3 should bolt to the old V8s too. I put sensors into the V8 and had all my gauges working too. Thanks for watching and best of luck.
+nick c Wow thanks, I have a bunch of these S-10 videos. I am glad you liked it. I am looking for my next S-10 V8 build for when my current project (my tiny house project) is finished. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for responding Chud, im currently gathering parts for an upcoming s10 v8 swap of my own. I watched two of your videos so far and they helped out a ton already.
We only took it on one test drive on the highway and that was when I was selling it. It ran great and handled good too. I am eager to do another V8 swap and this time actually drive it. I had two V8 S-10's before this one and they were my daily drivers. I think they drive and handle just fine. Are you planning a swap? Thanks for watching and for the questions.
Actually I was thinking about a swap in a 88 S10 Blazer where the wheel base is 100.5 inches. vs 108.3 Quite a bit shorter than a pick up. As is it's really a two hander to drive on the hwy even after the front end was aligned You have to be on it cause it's a quick turner. I know people do them all the time, but the added weight must be at least 220 lbs or more over the front end. After market brakes would be advised to be able to stop the thing too. Good videos you have on your channel. I used your formula to figure out my rear end ratio ( 3.08 ), so I could give the information. to Gear Venders Under Over Drive to order the right combo for my 1986 Chevy K10. It will really help that wide spaced gearing it has in the Muncie M-465 Thanks for the info
You are so welcome. On my Blazer, it had a V8 and oversize 33" tires and I felt the brakes did fine. Thanks for the reply and glad to help out. 3.08 is a pretty good gear.
That's good to know Chud327. Maybe I will consider a v8 swap in the s10 Blazer then. I have 3.08's in my 86 K10 with a 465 Muncie 4 speed. I'm waiting for my Gear Venders under overdrive unit to come from Cal.. Really looking forward to installing that unit . I'll upload the install. Thanks for the feed back and Keep on wrenching !
Got my 350 on the stand and a re buildable th 350 trans. Got a couple prospect s-10s I've seen from the road really want one with the bed full of trash!😂
so what transmission fits a ‘69 chevelle driveshaft you used? i have an ‘83 chevy with a 350 in it i just don’t know what trans it has. i’m wanting to do a 350 swap s10 as well but i’m green on old school.
I used a turbo 350 and the drive shaft come out of a powerglide. I guess they are the same yokes. I hope this helps and good luck. Thanks for watching.
@@destinhook3826 Thank you so much and glad to help. I am glad you like my build, I just had a Navy guy calling it shoddy work that was going to injure someone.
+Willie Reed I used a '70ish gas tank out of a VW. If you can keep your stock gas tank and stock electric fuel pump. I could because I wanted to use the dual exhaust off of a Blazer. Good luck.
If you have a 2.8, the trans will not bolt up. However, if you have a 4.3 it will bolt right up to a V8. Once you figure that out, you will need different motor mounts and exhaust. You should also plan on changing radiators and getting some electric fans. If you have to change transmissions, you may have to modify the cross member and find a different drive shaft. Good luck and thanks for watching.
also I just paid 240 dollars for a new edlebrock aluminum Quad intake,,it will handle both holley and quadrajet carbs,,,,,are you still running the 2 barrel here ?
I probably would be, but I got an offer that I couldn't refuse. I am currently looking for my next S-10 body. You know one that is in good shape and has a blown engine. Lets see a burn out from your when you get it done! Thanks for the comment and I have a bunch of V8 S-10 build video, I hope to hear from you again.
i have a 93' s10 with the 2.8L motor would i have to change axles to hold the weight of a 350 or a 327 if not what would i have to due to be able to drop one under my hood
+Logan Anderson They make 2.8 to V8 motor mounts that run for about $99. As for the axle, it sound like you are talking about the rear end, but the front end will just sit a little lower. I put in the v8 and then lowered my rear end by 3 inches, then the truck looked level, just how I wanted it. Thanks for the comment and feel free to ask if more pop up.
350 and 700r4 sounds like a great combo for an S-10! I would guess yes on moving it, both times I did this, I had to move mine. However, it was just a matter of a couple of inches, drilling new holes, maybe a little grinding, and was able to use the stock cross member. Good luck and thanks for watching.
this one is my favorite movie of all of them... this is the one I watch daily. I have found the 94-2000 s10 blazer has the tank in the right location for dual exhaust as well as the filler neck is on the drivers side. I am seriously considering that route when the weather gets better and now that I have a job I can afford some of the good things..what are the mufflers that you have on this truck, I like the sound. 69 camero looks good, but I am partial to the 15 inch z28. I have had 4 s10 in my life and all of them get the z28 rims
Wow, you watch it every day, you deserve a big thanks. Have you entered my Swiss Army knife giveaway yet? It would be super nice if a real fan won it. I think all the Blazers had the tank in the back, which is perfect for the dual exhaust. I had Flowmasters, but I don't know what series they were. I have loves S-10 with the Z/28 wheels too, It is a great and inexpensive way to make the truck look so good. I have had, I think, 14 S-10s in my time. That is if I haven't forgotten about one or two... Please keep watching it, that is some of the best news I have heard all day. Definitely the best comment of the day and maybe even the week. I can't wait to get my next S-10 project, I'll be sure to make some videos! BTW, I am working on a video that has some of all my old vehicles, currently there are 10 of my S-10 in that video...
What kind of pump did you run for your setup I’m currently putting a 89 vortec into my 03 s10 the motor has a carb swap I threw away my old gas tank and pump because of bad condition could I run a on the line fuel pump with a fuel cell or run stock tank with a electric pump
I have had three. One was an after market electric fuel pump, one was the stock in the stock tank, and one was a mechanical pump on the engine... I prefer the stock in the stock tank, unless you are going to have really high horse power. Good luck and thanks for watching.
I don't know, I would think that an extended truck would be longer. You will probably just have to measure and see what length you need. Thanks for watching.
Nice ride!!! I just bought a 91 2.8 5spd reg. cab w/short bed. perfect body, original patina powder blue color...... all works and complete ! $200.oo. 6/12/19. and it begins! just sayin
That is if you are drag racing and you drive shaft breaks, it keeps it from stabbing into the ground and pole vaulting... Thanks for watching. BTW, my new project S-10 V8 has a loop, I will try to show it soon.
I haven't been to the drags for years. Is it standard saftey mods you gotta do so you can use their track, or is it just a personal mod for piece of mind ?
You have probably been to the track more recent that me, our track closed down 20 or so years ago... I think the loop is a standard safety mod. I put one on just because I had found a super cheap one.
All I know it came out of a 2 door 1969 Chevelle. The Chevelle came with a 307 and a Powerglide. The trim on the car was 300 Deluxe and it had a bench seat. This should be enough even for a "Auto Parts Store Guy" to find it. Good luck and thanks for watching.
