Almost sold my house on Miami Beach and moved to LA in 2010 but plans fell thru. Was so sad at the time since it seemed like a done deal. In hindsight...not getting what we think we want can be a blessing in disguise.

Agree. My family has been in the SF Bay Area since the 1920s. I was born and raised there. I left two years ago with my 2 daughters and grandson and moved to the panhandle of Florida. I’m 60 and so grateful I lived most of my life in California when it was beautiful.

The area looks like an open air mall with a Gap store and all kinds of other lower end goods, not to mention the types of people you see there now ever since the riots in 2020. This also makes people not want to go there. However, this is not all due to crime or high rents. Internet shopping has helped create this retail ghost town. The companies leaving and taking away people's salaries are making more online with less overhead.

The problem is that Beverly Hills only consists of ultra rich people now who only shop at Hermes and Chanel. Back when there was diversity people used to shop at all these stores and the stores were able to afford their leases with that income. The city really failed in keeping their low and middle class residents.

@@MMM-ii7ce Even the ultra rich aren't spending "like normal" or so many Beverly Hills restaurants, banks, medical offices, car dealers, and stores wouldn't be out of business. Europeans aren't visiting Venice Beach, Santa Monica and Beverly Hills, as they used to. No one is buying things in person like they used to. Online e-commerce has affected in person shopping greatly. Restaurants have been faced with higher costs and more anal regulations by Newsom and closed up shop. Way too many places have all been affected by the same policies. Many have left California, altogether.

A good way to gauge the economy whether it's going well or not is to look at luxury stores in the fanciest places. We have a good hint of what's to come in the near future.

As you were showing buildings with “leased” signs plastered over the storefronts, I had to wonder if those signs were placed to make the area look more promising than it is. It would be interesting for you to keep note of those buildings and return to them in a year to see if anything changed. I’d sure Like to see it. ❤️🐈

The difference between the two periods is that the US mainstream media reported on the recession in the early 1980s. The US mainstream media is not reporting on the current retail recession in CA. I remember back when Obama was President. He had a fundraiser in Beverly Hills. The Entertainment "News" was interviewing an American film producer that had made a large donation to the Obama campaign and had attended the dinner and fundraiser. When the producer was through singing the praises of leftwing causes and how great Obama was, the interviewer asked him about his next film project. He stated that they had a new project in the works and that they were going to start filming in a couple of weeks in Vancouver, British Columbia. A perfect follow up question would have been, "Here we are in Hollywood, California, the movie capital of the world, why aren't you filming here, with an American film crew instead of Canada?" Well, we all know the answer, don't we? The very policies this guy was fundraising for, sucked for his business.

That's a "one and done" tax in Sweden. 30% total tax. In US.... Federal, state, income tax. Local property tax. Sales tax. Capital gains tax. Plus "hidden taxes" and fees. Probably 75% tax overall.

Many of these commercial, office buildings are going into foreclosure, tax seizure and are being auctioned off for pennies on the dollar. The economic fallout from the California commercial collapse is gathering momentum and will cause serious damage in the economy in the rest of the country. Currently the feds are managing to intervene to manipulate the economy and quietly support the banks that are heavily invested and suffering huge losses in California commercial real estate. But once the election is over and the losses continue to mount, this manipulation will no longer be sustainable.

@ 4:42 I was in LA doing some training in the Beverly Hills area, I was there at that corner doing some shopping then went down the street near Rodeo to Victoria's Secret to get my Girlfriend a gift before I left for home. The place was thriving in 2018. Hell, a buddy of mine went out and had tacos at 2am and people were out everywhere. It's a ghost town now. Every building in Beverly Hills was open for business that I passed by.
