Zoro is supposed to represent the Wayward Vagabound Samurai; which is the Character Archetype that has no direction in Life and just does what needs to be done when it is called for. That's why I think this Trope of Zoro's fits very well and isn't overplayed ^_^

To me favourite thing about this gag is the pure chaos it causes most of the time, to either Zoro or others around him. Probably why it hasn’t gotten stale, as the fallout is kept varied, whilst having base lines (Zoro gets lost and gets mad when it is pointed out).

You don't need to Imagine, as that happened in Skypiea when the gold-hunting gang encounters the giant snake in Upper Yard, Zoro tries to reach the tail end of the snake to perform an attack from behind, only to somehow end up in front of the snake, *exactly* where he started.

Zoro theory: Him getting lost regularly only seemed to start once they entered the grand line. We know that normal compasses cease to function there due to the strange magnetic forces at play. Maybe Zoro has actually an internal compass that works incredibly well in most situations and he grew to rely on it though his early years so much that he can't help but getting lost now. It also explains why he seems to be so confused about the fact and constantly blames other people, when he always seeks personal responsibility in everything else. It's not him being wrong, the world is wrong!

@@ivanlu8353 not really, that one was a bit lost in translation.. What they meant here is that Zoro lost his way in a sense that he lost his goal out of his sight. He had no idea where to start searching for Mihawk anyway and got sidetracked by bounty hunting to survive. The "Zoro has a bad sense of direction" trope doesn't start until little garden
