Every Woodworker Should Use This Simple Trick 

Interesting and useful tip that I will definitely remember for the future. But unfortunately it is not suitable for smaller diameters, precisely the ones I sometimes need.

I used this method a couple times for getting the center on a round blank for the lathe, but I got tired of it real quick and bought a center finder...

This method will work, but that definitely didn't look like you got a real accurate Center.. looked like a Triangle not a center point.

Alternative approach using the square: Place the 90° corner of the square somewhere on the circle so the legs of the square form 2 chords. Mark where each chord crosses the circle. Draw a line between the two marks. This is a diameter of the circle. Move the square to another position and repeat. Where the diameters cross is the center.

Can’t you just measure anywhere across the circle - as long as you find the longest distance from side to side? So if the diameter is 10”, measure across several tries until you find 10”. Then, mark halfway across to find the center at 5” in from any edge. Seems easier.
