Oz Perkins is seriously underrated. The Blackcoats Daughter is easily one of A24’s best horror films they released. I’m excited to see Nic Cage as a serial killer
@@77Creation it's not about getting it. That movie wasn't very good. If you were referring to Possum then I would agree. That's an absolutely amazing film that you need to "get" to appreciate it.
Ok I'm going to throw in my two cents on both Possum & The Blackcoats Daughter. In my humble opinion Possum was just all over the place and seemed very artsy for the sake of being artsy. The Blackcoats Daughter was a masterpiece from beginning to end! The cinematography, lighting, acting, score all of it came together to beautifully craft a very original story. I don't even like calling it a horror movie as for me it doesn't even become one till the last 30 minutes. Possum on the other hand was very hard to follow and confused me more than it intrigued me.
The real reason why this teaser is so good is because it feels like something you would genuinely see from a true crime show on Investigation Discovery or HLN. Like, a teaser or something on either of those networks for a serial killer show, or even that show 48 Hours. It wasn’t so much that this teaser took the “less is more approach”, though there is some truth to that. What the teaser did was essentially mirror true crime with haunting music, camera flash sound effects for that old school feel, and the zooming in on the daughter. It gave this a true crime feel that helps make it feel that much more real, and horrific. 10/10. Very very, VERY well done. This teaser goes to show you the power of good editing and sound.
In my opinion, it seems like they first showed us the family photo establishing their relationships. Then the man says "it's my daughter", while it zooms in on her. We are safe. It is his daughter. Then he says "I gotta be quiet". Cool. He is probably hiding, but protecting his daughter. Then he says "it is not my daughter", when it is so close to her face. Our brain immediately goes "oh sh*t". Great trailer.
@@124myth I agree with everything you just said too! Where I was coming from was the true crime “investigation discovery” feel of the clip. Can’t wait to watch this movie!
Played it at .75 speed and could hear it a lot easier: It's my daughter... I gotta be quiet... That's not my daughter. The sound of this is pure horror, terrifying. I can't stop listening to it.
Thank you. I couldn't make out anything after "It's my daughter". I hate it when I can't hear the dialogue and this was driving me nuts. I hope the rest of the audio for the movie is more intelligible.
@@govardhanposina17 Because we already see loads of unintelligible dialogue in movies these days. Seems like it's almost the norm, and I'm sick of it. If it's an intentional choice to make the dialogue difficult to understand in the trailer (as you're saying), then why wouldn't we expect the filmmakers to make the same decision to use some unintelligible dialogue in the film? But seriously, if a filmmaker is intentionally making the dialogue unintelligible, I honestly don't want to bother with it. I find it really annoying.
@@MichaelVogtOK genuinely curious, what was the last movie that made you feel this way? I can honestly only remember Tenet being the last movie to have such unintelligible dialogue for intentional reasons and yeah I was pretty annoyed at it since it didn't seem to serve any legit purpose
@@govardhanposina17 Nearly every Nolan movie of the past decade has had these issues, and though I had fewer problems with Oppenheimer, there were parts where I had trouble understanding them, and that was the last time I had a problem at the theater. I know Nolan doesn't like to have actors re-voice their lines, preferring to keep the audio from their performance, which is a challenge with noisy IMAX cameras. I get that, but it's still a distraction for me. I often watch movies with others at home, and they have so much trouble hearing dialogue that the subtitles on by default, so it's a bit harder to remember which ones were problematic. Every time we started a movie without subtitles we'd get less than ten minutes in before someone would ask to turn the subtitles on. We don't seem to have that problem with older movies showing on PBS afterward.
I keep coming back to this because the first time I watched this, it sticked into my mind ever since. The way it made me feel while watching it was surreal. It’s so mysterious and very creepy, but also short. I love it. I sound like a lunatic but I think this is how teasers should be made. A short, well-edited teaser to a movie you know so little about.
exactly, ultimately tells you nothing especially the entire plot like many trailers today. incredibly eerie and cliff hanging.. sheesh.. i basically stopped watching horror and i need to see this now!
@ryancols gotta be honest I do watch a good deal of horror, just not much new stuff, mostly pre-2000s. However one exception that I saw recently that I loved was Talk To Me.
@@ryancolslol evil lurks seems promising but this trailer is insanely more chilling and intriguing. I’m also a huge fan of Oz Perkins in general, blackcoats daughter was incredible
@@ryancolsevil lurks was okay, but it was more shock value than actual horror. After the first kid kill, you kinda become immune to the rest because the tone was set.
Asian countries have some of the most disturbing and unsettling horrors out there so tbh I was already sold but your input just makes me even more excited
When I tell you this made my arms and legs go stiff. I'm so glad there was no jumpscare at the end there, because that sense of tension left unresolved just makes it all the more terrifying.
As someone who adores horror movies, this genuinely makes me so excited, I love a disturbing but open ended trailer. The way it is made makes it way more disturbing and I can’t wait for the whole movie!
whoever is working in the PR section at neon is a genius! this how you make trailers and teaser. nothing is over the top. very subtle and haunting and great sound design
Wow, I love that they use that nostalgic Polaroid family picture to appear so ominous and terrifying. I can assume that many of us fans of horror are familiar with the forensic detective shows we all love to watch. They always use old family photos of the victims as they describe the horrific details of the case. To me, that’s what made this so much more terrifying. I can’t wait for the stream!
This feeling of a randomly dropped record of an emergency call, the terrified voice of the dad and the eerily stretched legs which seem normal at first glance but uncomfortably long when you look closer- that's how you advertise a horror movie!
studios finally beginning to lean into that youtube analog skinamarink-type creepypasta unsettling-to-the-core supremely fucked up and violent implied horror is very fun!! who knows if it’ll be successful but this is fun!!
I can see it being popular for a little bit but I dont think it will work out since not everyone wants to stare at creepy images for the length of a movie.
Idk if this film will be analog horror-toned since it's more of a murder mystery story about a FBI agent looking into a serial killer with ties to the occult but we'll see
I didn't notice it until multiple viewings but she has a third arm at the end. Seems like we're getting a skinwalker/shapeshifter type of movie and I'm very excited!
In the new teaser photos you see that the “third arm” is actually just the arm of her family member. The legs in the teaser poster match the ones in this video I’m sure there’s still some weird possession shit going on but not necessarily a creature flick I don’t think
This seems as appropriate a time as any to remind the world that the director of this film acted in a movie called Quigley where he plays an angel who turns Gary Busey into a dog to teach him compassion.
@@CJM3699 No alphabet. Those aren't letters. It's a substitution cipher using deranged characters. I have spent too much time in the Zodiac true crime blogs.
Anyone else notice there are three arms in the photo and it looks like there is something blurred out lying next to the body? I am so intrigued by this.
It's a family tied up together. "Every year there is another." Another maybe being a family that is murdered or an individual from a family used in some kind of occult ritual.
the most twisted trailer for a film ever and in 30 SECONDS! please i need this to mend and then absolutely shred my fucking soul to a million pictures 😊
This is hella creepy, not only because of the unsettling music of also the picture. It looks as if they are unsettled. The father looks creepy though hes probably an average dad. Same with the rest. And the grain of the photo makes even more creepier
It's a family tied up together. "Every year there is another." Another maybe being a family that is murdered or an individual from a family used in some kind of occult ritual. And it's 1000% a teaser for Longlegs.
The young girl in the first photo also looks very much like a young Alicia Witt... so, it's quite likely that the girl survives whatever ritual she's involved (in some form) for Witt to ultimately enter the film. Could be that whatever evidence Maika Monroe unearths to learn of a "personal connection to the merciless killer" could maybe trace back to her or her family being involved in the same ritual during her youth.
@@user-eo2kp5so7m still, I think it’ll still have a lot of weird internet horror, they wouldn’t just make an average serial killer movie with a trailer like this
So I guess my question is, does anyone know how much influence a Director has over the final outcome of its marketing? I would imagine Neon does what A24 does by letting artist have more creative freedom.
