The story explained it with the villains being like: We tried to kill her so often but she never stayed dead and it was painful for us. So, now we just make her happy. It's a bit of a meta explanation with comic book characters never staying dead. XD A bit flimsy. I admit it myself but the current Black Widow comic is really good and that story is very emotional.
Actually in the story, Which both comicstorian and Comic Pop both did really good covers of you should watch'em, The bad guys were ready to just leave her in this perfect life but one of the bad guys thought the plan was to make her happy and then kill her. That 1 guy screwed up everything.
This made me sad. Why can't she ever have a happy relationship? It's either self-sabotage (bad writing) or random circumstance (bad writing). Poor lady.
The champions is easily the weirdest combination of characters for a super hero team. You’ve got a former Soviet spy, a Greek warrior, a spirit of vengeance that rides a motorcycle and two former members of the X-Men who can fly and manipulate ice.
Dis-Honourable mention for Ultimate Black Widow, the double agent "Iron Maiden" who got engaged to Iron Man and then took part in trying to overthrow the government, releasing a sex tape after her death.
I honestly like Black Window and Cap (Steve) together I just think it's a neat couple and I like the son they have in Next Avengers and really want him to be in the 616 universe

For me it's either BuckyNat (for Comics OG Nat only lol) Or Masha (Her and Maria Hill) For the MCU. It's implied in some of the comics that Her and Maria Hooked up during the early days of shield and I love their Very Brief Scenes they have by just looking at each other in the first Avenger. She had more Chemisty just by looking at looking at Hill then she ever did with Banner.

That requires her to talk to other women about men and nothing else. I'm not saying this ridiculous soap opera writing is good, just that it's technically not applicable to the Bechdel Test. Unless of course every line of dialogue she had with other female characters in her decades of history was exclusively about guys. I could see individual issues failing the test.
@@Zarvanis That's backwards. The Bechdel test requires two named women to talk to each other about anything other than men. It can be applied to any movie that has *two named women*. About 58% of the movies checked *pass*.
Doesn't she fail it in the Avengers movies and Civil War? She and Scarlet Witch were the only 2 female Avengers and how much dialogue did they get together? Barely any. Disappointing.
I'd like to think all those times Natasha abandoned men or kissed other right in front of them was her subconsciously self-sabotaging herself as she is afraid of trusting people and being happy.

not trying to be PC or anything, but I swear, comic book writers have a bad habit of passing female Hero's around the entire team roster, like some enhanced blunt that's to be smoked and then passed around, every other issue it could be WW, Invisible Woman, Storm, Black Widow, Super Girl, She-Hulk, Jean Gray, Mystique. they all have MORE meaningless relationships than they have meaningful Villain's 😂😂
In this case, it would be reasonable, especially when she was with her partner and was kissing another person in from of him and in front of their girlfriend.

I literally have a poster that has a few of her & her love interests too I bought at a con. It has her in the middle & her love interests on it are Daredevil, Red Guardian (Alexei), Hercules, Bucky, Hawkeye & Ironman. I still have it.

In the MCU, Red Room assassins are known as Black Widows. IDK she kept that title after she left and why they called her that originally in the comics. Black Widow is a breed of spider. I always thought of Natasha Romanoff as a spider-like spy because of that.

Kevin Smith's Daredevil and Green Arrow runs are two of my favourite comics. When you think about it Mysterio makes soooo much more sense as a Daredevil villain than as a Spider-Man villian. The illusion powers versus super senses is like up there in the area of Batman vs Joker (ok not that high but you know what I mean) I know Spidey has his peter tingle but Mysterio gets lost as just another villain in the gallery there whereas in Daredevil he could have had a much longer prominent place in the rouges gallery up there with Kingpin and Bullseye
She has had relationships with Steve Rogers and the Hulk in alternate universes with her and Hulks relationship being in the mcu and her and Steve’s relationship being in another alternate universe. Natasha and Steve even had a child together named James Rogers.
Jesus Christ Marvel, give us one universe with a happy Black Widow, the closest to it i've seen was from the animated Ultimate Avengers movies mostly because Natasha and Captain America End up together and it the kind of sequel Next Avengers movie we get to see the results...after everyone got unalived by Ultron and the only people left were refuges and the Avenger's kids because of course happiness is not allowed in the Marvel universe. And i said kind of sequel because events in Ultimate Avengers 2 contradict with the timeline of set by Next Avengers, but the importat part is Tony is alone, Thor has a daughter, Cap and Nat have a Son, Black Panther and Storm have a cub, Wasp + Hank Pym have a sprite and Clint has a boy with some random lady.
I was never really a black widow fan, but her most recent comic is so good. I read the first trade of it digitally, and when I finished, immediately went to my local comic shop to buy it physically.
Thats the problem with adapting these comics into movies made in the 2000s...all of the material originated in the 60s, which makes it hard to link it to current events, while also keeping origins similar.
The fact Hawkeye wasnt in the Black Widow movie is criminal! No one cares about the Red Room...not for an entire movie. But a movie about a super spy becoming an Avenger...yeah...I want that movie. You can still have her sister and Red Guardian and make them fight the Avengers making Nat have to choose who to fight with and have Hawkeye be the reason she chooses the Avengers...or something like that.

1st off, I've been thinking all of these years that Cap & Nat got together @ some point in the comics, but maybe I was thinking of Bucky as Cap or a different universe. Also, her love life was waaaaay smaller than I expected....
Alexei and Natasha, Father and daughter in the MCU, but love interests in the comic. I understand why they decided to make Alexei older so as to make it believable that he's a soviet agent, but dang, don't ya just hate it when your boyfriend becomes your daddy in the movie adaptation? 🤣
So basically there were only 3 that have potential with the rest being train wrecks that failed purely because Natasha has no self-control. Daredevil, Bucky, Hawkeye. Hawkeye is on-and-off again a walking disaster. Her dynamic with Daredevil is toxic. So I suppose Bucky is likely the best chance for her to find happiness.

Black Widow randomly making excuses to break up her relationship is likely just the writers having no idea how to write her in a steady relationship, but it does sounds like she is afraid of being in love but don't realize it or admit it to herself, so she convince herself that she want to leave for one reason or another only to come back on that reason once the relationship is broken. Which would be perfectly consistent with her backstory and characterisation. She knows how to seduce, how to flirt, how to gather Intel, fight or kill, but she is unable to process being in love. That could lead to some interesting story or character development if addressed.
i always thought that was one of her most interesting characteristics, and kelly thompson did a storyline where she is in love and has a child in 2020, if youre interested
