One should just take one look at human history and a glance at human biology to know that we are *not* a species to mess with. We have been literally killing each other for tens of thousands of years, and before that we committed xenocide on the other humanoid species on our planet, the only one with didn't outright obliterate was the neanderthals, we absorbed them into ourselves by crossbreeding them out of existence. Once we ran out of other species to kill we started in on each other, and the only real reason we haven't gone extinct is because of biology. What biology you say? Well, humans have two traits going for us that makes us a nightmare for other species: 1. We are incredibly adaptable. Humans have literally adapted to every environment on our home planet (which incidentally could be classified as a death world due to Australia alone). And 2. Humans are ridiculously fecund. Humans become fertile relatively early in their life cycle, and while human females remain fertile for 25-30+ years, human males remain fertile for the remainders of their lives. Now, without resorting to advanced tech, two healthy humans of opposite genders can produce a kid a year during a 25 year period, although most westerners stop at 2 or 3, while less developed nations produce more, it is possible for two humans to have 25 kids. The oldest of those kids would be able to produce children themselves before their youngest siblings were even born. But that is not the amazing part, because of how human biology works, there is a tiny chance that any given pregnancy will result in twins. This chance is stacking, meaning the more kids you have, the more likely that the next time a pregnancy occurs, it'll be twins. And once you've had twins once, this chance increases significantly. Meaning that if you've had twins, it is quite likely that you'll get more twins, or even triplets. And that is without factoring in fertility treatment which can extend the fertility period for human women considerably. Now, imagine having access to things like artificial wombs and the like, and from a pair of humans you can end up with hundreds of children, who will grow up and produce more children. Add to this the human mental traits that make us tenacious motherfuckers able to function on pure spite... Now, if I was an alien empire, I would not mess with such a species, at all. Instead, I'd look to hire them as mercenaries and guards, because holy fucking hell humans are scary.

Aliens cannot get advanced in civilization without this "human" characteristic either. You cannot advance without invention and discovery, and that cannot happen without curiosity, ignorance, ego and bravery. If there is an advanced civilization beyond us, then they have already taken the path we have taken, using the same tools logic and emotional control.

Seriously, we even have a term for it in warfare. "Danger Close." Sometimes the best way to defeat the enemy is to call down an artillery strike on your own position....

Stories nowadays need more stories of human valor. Duty and honor are traits that can be foreign concepts to an alien race. Writers in their stories today too many times portray human valor only in a losing cause.

The tech is not yet there, but the science was already devised over 30 years ago by a Mexican scientist, after many revisions it has been optimized and the tech is being developed since a decade ago. Warp drive i mean.

A few? I lost count at 70. This was terrible. The story was merely okay. No, I'm not going to list them all, but every single reference to Holographic systems was translated as "hollow" meaning empty. Like a soda or beer can. There's a shit ton more. 😢

Here are a few of the errors, so you have a base of reference. thank you 77. 2:31 awe not ore, 3:19 awed (spoken correctly, but text says owed), 5:19 Sire father (spoken correctly, but text says fire father), 6:23 nigh impossible (spoken correctly, text reads now impossible). I'm not going to review the entire story, but I listen to stories while working on another monitor and didn't notice any glaring issues with your story. Rather, I found it quite enjoyable, so don't take the criticisms to heart.

I think the idea was that the "far more advanced civilizations" would never succeed with the rescue at all, so losing "only" 800 lives was an incomprehensible achievement.

Not all the ships that arrived to help were professionals. In the vastness of space, an immediate emergency means you're limited on the available help. Lots of the ships that decided to help were basically just truck drivers, pirates and random civilians. Of course if a rescue team was able to be dispatched it could have been different i assume.

Keep in mind this is a humanity that's gone through the growing pains of learning interstellar travel. If we ever achieve that in the real world, hundreds or thousands of humans dying in single incidents will become common, and high risk will become more acceptable, especially among the humans choosing the dangerous life of regularly traveling through space.

Keep in mind that hesitation can backfire. Uvalde comes to mind .
