I was in a very toxic relationship and we were in the middle of a shouting argument. I answered hte door to salespeople. WE continued to argue before greeting them and they skulked away embarrasingly. I told my wife this story 15 years ago and we now create a farcicle over the top argument everytime a sales person or jw come to the door. "I can't believe you ate all the mayo"

Pro tip: Never say you can't afford it. Then they will try to loop you in with financing and you are on the hook for hundreds of dollars every month.

its very easy to get off their hooks by answering contrary to what they expect - "you don't want to save money?" - "no", "aren't you worried about the environment?" - "no I'm not". There's just no comeback from that

Damn this hits home as someone who is in sales. God damn I knew what he was going to say every time lol.

As a former salesperson, here’s what you do: genuinely disqualify yourself as a lead. Otherwise their livelihood depends on coming back bc you’re pushing them off. And no matter how angry or uncomfortable you get, they have to keep coming back bc their managers will fire them if they don’t follow every possible lead until it’s dead. Slamming the door doesn’t kill it. Actually disqualifying yourself does. In this situation I would go all flat earther and give some justification for not believing in solar energy until they believe I’m too stupid to be saved. Or I’d do a ton of research on the downsides of solar and throw stuff at them they aren’t prepared for. Or make up some story about how your someone your dog died when your dad fell off the roof and landed on it because he was installing solar panels, so now you’re traumatized at the thought of them. They’ll have a funny story to tell at work and will leave you alone.

I am gonna use this video for training sales personnel in my company... And thus, get to see Nikki everyday on working hours.

He then tried to sell me a TV to get the streaming service for. He got mad when I declined and insisted that I'm missing out on so amazing shows and must have a TV.

I have a feeling that I would get along well with Nikki.

This is where I get to mess with people: Them - "Do you want to save money on your electric bill?" Me - "No, not really." Them - "Do you care about the environment?" Me - "I hate it." In all honesty, what usually shuts them down is that I tell them that I'm not sure if we're going to be here long enough to see the return, and we don't want to make the investment. They realize that they're not making a sale, and they get out of there.

Just tell them you're renting the house. 9 out of 10 salesmen will start walking away before you even finish the sentence.....
