I had my teenager listen to this, he’s a white masculine male living in a Republican state and goes to a religious private school and has the American flag on his wall and I am NOT saying his situation can be compared to others, but these days people have to DEFEND things they cannot change and some parents raise their kids hating other races, other genders, etc and kids shouldn’t be blamed for the choices parents make for them before they are old enough to make their own decisions. 16 years ago I hoped we’d have a son because I’m more tomboyish than girlish and I never thought I’d see a day that everything we’ve raised him to be is automatically assumed as negative. I posted he held the door for me since he was a little kid so we’ve been told he’s been raised with toxic masculinity but we call it RESPECT. I held the door for an older woman and I’m female. I stand waiting for my husband or son to open my doors and while some may judge that, I have medical issues so it’s both respect and the fear I can pick up a minor bug that could kill me due to my immune system.

It's when the people closest to you tear you down when you're trying to follow your dreams or try new things that hurt the most you really gotta learn that you can't listen to NOBODY even the homies, or family, that are suppose to have your back. Just keep pressing forward...

My husband always puts himself between me and traffic, between me and other pedestrians even and he always defends me in any situation physical or not. He always knows escape routes, he always sits/stands where his back isn’t to the exit so he can see threats coming, etc and I have never thought I was ‘lesser’ because of that. If a car hits us while walking our dogs for example he wants to be the one to take the impact so when he hits me I don’t take the full force. Our son is taller and heavier than I am and he’s been trying to do the same as his dad. Im5’2 and 115lbs so I always say if there’s an apocalypse that they can’t leave me behind :)

A lot of things happen on the internet, but I have been called White trash to my face and I could not say anything because I would have been beaten up and called a racist even if I had not said anything racist just because they where not white and I was. I lost all rights of defending myself just because I am white. On top of that I am a lesbian married to a woman and I have lost all right being a normal human being because I have to walk carefully, I never know who will hurt me or fire me from jobs. We have to come out of the closet every single time we meet someone new (which I have stopped with because its damn ridiculous as straight people do not have to come and say hey I am Linda and I am a straight woman so my spouse is a man). I have had banana peels thrown at my face by kids on the command from their parents just for holding my then girlfriends hand in the streets. If I dare telling people I have experienced racism (which I have because I have walked in many circles with different people of different origins all my life), I am yelled at because how can I when I am white.. But I have been called white trash, fishpudding, pale face, worthless white bitch, that I am dumb because I am white, etc. Been threatened to be beaten because I was the one white girl at a party and they felt like being angry at me for being there, White hore because all white girls are hores, etc the list goes on. I have seen white girls being yelled at for having braids by black girls with blonde hair and straightened hair which sometimes people refer to as a white look (do not know why as white girls can have natural curls). I am done apologizing for being white. I am in a mixed origin relationship (I say origin because we are all equal, only difference is our skin color, languages and culture so race within us humans does not exist, its just a word we use to create a divide), I am white woman from Norway and my wife is from Portugal and not a white Portuguese. For sure we could start making up issues in our relationship like some people do just because of the human made up race divide instead of trying to merge our cultures and accept those differences that shows up, but we do not.. We see our cultural differences and we work with it and it has also allowed us to spot some funny similarities. Sadly names are not just on the internet and sometimes names are used to hurt beyond just yelling them.. I agree with what he says in the song to the extent of you should not let the names define you, but if the names yelled at you are true then you should look at what that name is telling you and if you want to be that or not.. If someone goes after me because I am gay, I prefer to not use the word homophobic, but do they fit the word.. For sure.. I just turn my back, walk away and hope their words do not turn in to actual weapons..
