honestly one of my biggest problems with Jason is how throughout the press and interviews before the game was released the whole team was just "nope, not Jason Todd, totally new character, definitelyyy not Jason, nope"

@EasterBurn I wish they revealed it earlier and have Batman trying to cope with knowing his son is alive and trying to kill him. Like “You never loved me you didn’t try to find me, You did this to me and now I’m getting what I want. Batman just like “I did try I did everything I could to find you, I only wanted you to be happy and have a good life but joker did this I would never leave you but he went behind my back. I Cried and Cried for a year knowing I let my son possibly die and I couldn’t live with myself”

Well to be perfectly honest,in my humble opinion,of course without offending anyone who thinks differently from my point of view,but also by looking into this matter in a different perspective and without being condemned of one’s view and by trying to make it objectified, and by considering each and every ones valid opinion,I honestly believe that I completely forgot what I was going to say.

I think what makes a lot of people angrier about the issues in Arkham Knight as opposed to City and Asylum is that it had the absolute potential to be so much more and potentially be the best Arkham game ( I still think it's a great game ). The entire storyline with Jason Todd could've been masterful and incredibly emotional and could've resulted in an outstanding boss battle full of heart where the battle goes on it becomes more chaotic as Jason Todd keeps lashing out and Batman is desperately trying to help him and get answers and so on. I was genuinely excited to see how the story would go because a lot of people including me were able to predict the Arkham Knight was Jason Todd during their first confrontation and was thoroughly disappointed when the reveal came and the boss battle was so lacklustre and detached. Not only that but Jason's ENTIRE redemption happened off-screen with no proper conclusions. The same goes with Scarecrow and a few other things, but I believe that's why people are so vocal about Arkham Knight's issues.

One thing I can't stand about Poison Ivy in this game is when she reveals her location to the Arkham Knight by destroying two drones. She says she's doing it as revenge but all she does is crush some unmanned drones, then she barely does anything to help you after she reveals your location. Then the Arkham Knight sends in Cobra tanks to kill you and Poison Ivy says she can't help you because she's not strong enough yet. IF YOU'RE NOT STRONG ENOUGH YET, WHY THE FUCK DID YOU REVEAL OUR LOCATION AND START A FIGHT YOU KNEW YOU COULDN'T WIN THEN LEAVE ME TO CLEAN UP YOUR MESS?!?!

I think the story element that bothers me the most in this game is that Joker's blood is actually physically turning Batman (and the 4 fake Jokers) into the Joker. The excuse they give, a mutated Creutzfeld-Jakob disease aka mad cow disease, doesn't work scientifically as firstly, that disease causes dementia in humans and only affects the brain. It wouldn't change the color of your skin, hair, or eyes (I know it's a fictional world, but then they should make up a random disease name). Secondly, how can Joker's blood, which was killing Batman in Arkham City that Batman then got a cure for, do anything to Batman since he was cured? Different question now. Batman says the 4 fake Jokers infected by Joker's blood in this game were people who were missed and didn't get the cure for Joker's blood. Shouldn't they all be dead? If we go with the theory about the blood killing Batman because it's the wrong blood type for Batman to receive, then even if all 4 fake Jokers had a blood type that allowed them to receive Joker's blood without their body rejecting it, wouldn't they be dying from Titan poisoning now, since they didn't get cured? It also causes the ending to make no sense as Batman just locks Joker away in his mind, which wouldn't fix his body slowly turning into Joker. The game's story would've been so much better without this plot point, imo.

@@ClownPuncher139 I watched the video, and it did give a good answer for all my questions. I just wish that the game spelled that out for us rather than people having to theorize about it. I still don't like the inclusion of the fake Jokers, as it's used as an excuse to keep Robin out of a lot of the story. It also strips Harley of any agency or interesting development since she's just trying to be with Joker again through on of these 4, and it takes up valuable time that could be given to Scarecrow since he desperately needed more time on screen. I appreciate your theory though, and I think I'll enjoy this section of the game a bit better with this theory in mind.

I don't think the batmobile being only 20% of the gameplay makes things better, i think it actually makes it worse, because it shows that it made people get sick of it much faster than it should since it is a small fraction of the game, showing that if it was better designed, people wouldn't get sick so quickly.

Your take on how to fix the Jason Todd part of the story is honestly perfect. We would have most of the game to explore Batman's greatest failure, how it continues to haunt him, and how it has come back to hurt him even more. As is, we know, and are just waiting for our character to catch up, and by the time he finally does know, there is little time to explore it.

Scarecrow in this game suffers from the same symptoms Skull Face did in the Phantom Pain. A really cool villain with a scary looking scarred face who barely has any scenes and does mostly everything in the background. The two games came out the same year as well.

My original idea for a way to handle Jason was this: Have the game start off a lot slower. Start it as a nightmare Bruce is having, and also serving as the tutorial. Batman and robin (Jason Todd) are on a mission. Bruce is lecturing Jason on how to do things (also telling the player). Have this nightmare end when Jason is taken by joker. Alfred is by the bedside, some remarks “the Todd nightmare again? It’s not your fault” blah blah. Have Bruce walk through the mansion to do some things, as controlled by the player, sorta like cold cold heart’s opening. Then have a regular Batman patrol getting interrupted with the billboard scarecrow announcement. A jump cut to the beginning of the story proper. Everything goes the same, but Bruce is thinking that the Arkham knight is jason, but refuses to believe it, and with reassurance from Alfred, concludes that it can’t be jason, because jason is dead. Each knight encounter further fueling Bruce’s suspicions, but he refuses to acknowledge them. Later on, the big reveal, Bruce isn’t shocked but is highly saddened, and blah blah the story progresses as normal. I like your idea better though

While this may be my favorite Arkham game I do agree that Jason should have been done differently and this is my pitch (Biggest changes mainly because we'd be here for hours, and I would go on for hours) When going back to clock tower and looking for Barb, Jason should hack the comms and confront Bruce for letting someone else get taken and eventually ending with him revealing his face which would make Bruce spiral, the movie studio hallucinations could still be used but much sooner and spaced apart (perhaps happening when Bruce enters a closed room, think the control room in Queen industries on Founders), maybe Jason's face and voice would play over Tim sometimes and explore why Tim joined (Maybe instead of "Batman needs a Robin" it could be "Robin is missing and I want to help you find him"). When we do the cloudburst tank and Bruce goes to hit Jason on the roof he could suddenly change into the scared kid from crime alley, begging to not be hit by the Batman, fucking with Bruce's mind even more and letting him get away like normal

I have a much better plot with Jason kinda building off yours. I need you to picture it. Imagine when Batman sees Jason while in the cell, he reveals himself. And the next encounter Bruce apologizes, something he would never do, that soon and Jason forgives him for a mission or two making excuses to scarecrow for not killing Batman. Because of this, obviously scarecrow gets mad and sees the fear in Jason. So when he gets him with toxin, he makes him break. Turning him into the joker like we see in the game. Joker seeing who he thought betrayed him turning into his killer will obviously make him snap… I think this is a good plot cause Jason will want revenge, but joker, well jokers, are dead and he needs the next best person to kill. I get why people would hate this plot and I’m not good at integrating things but I just had this idea while on my bed eating goldfish watching this video. Even if you don’t like the plot, I hope you enjoy the idea and thanks for reading!

Honestly if I was making the game I would’ve made Anarchy become the Arkham Knight. Not only do the characters have a few superficial similarities, such as having an A logo and being able to rile up people who believe they been wronged by the system, but I think with a few tweaks anarchy could work for the story. Let’s say after he was defeated by Batman nearly 10 years ago, at least from his point of view, Batman has been making Gotham worse and worse. I believe the breaking point for Anarchy would be protocol 10. Even though I doubt he would be there in person, I imagine he would’ve heard about how Hugo Strange abused the system to build Arkham City and executed thousands of people, some of which weren’t even criminals. To Anarchy, this only proves that The only way to save Gotham is to “Free” it from order and institution. as such he takes on the role of a shining KNIGHT to avenge the lives lost in ARKHAM City, and begins amassing followers to help him with this plan. Eventually he would partner with Scarecrow, as I imagine The version of Gotham we see throughout the game where law and order mean nothing, giving the power to the deranged criminals of the city, would be a dream come true for Anarchy. Besides I think he would be on board with the idea of the cloudburst as it would “free the people from the shackles and fears society puts on them” or at least that’s how he would see it. (It is worth noting this kid is still somewhat insane.) And finally I think similar to how in the series “Beware the Batman” Anarchy could have become a master strategist within the 10 years since Batman beat him, so it’s believable that he may recognize some of Batman’s techniques especially as the night goes on. However I do have to say I like your version of the story as well.

Not to forget the shitty deathstroke boss battle and that most riddler sections required the batmobile. Everytime i saw the batmobile after that instead of saying "yes the batmobile" i was starting to say "why the batmobile man". Also those hologram conversations never bothered me bc in my second playthrough i always just skipped them if you play on playstation like me just spam the o button it will skip trough the entire conversation. As for glitches i all of my playthroughs which by now stack up to like a thousand i've never ever encountered a single glitch or crash.

I think I have possible explanation for the oracle death scene. The gun was real and just put in the room in-between the broadcast and the death scene itself, by a militia soldier, or thug. Why not have it in there to begin with? I don't know, probably a developer oversight, but I don't think it not being there in the broadcast is enough to write off its physical existence entirely. As for joker moving the gun, based on how much control joker showed he had over what batman saw during the game, hallucinations (Jason Todd flashbacks), changing physical objects appearance (signs and statues changing to have jokers face) and even creating reality like hallucinations (choosing to go into the cell instead of forcing robin in, sticks you right back before the choice was made, as if batman merely imagined himself entering the cell), making batman see the gun in one position being pushed to the next for the sake of a gag, when the gun was always in its final position before Barbara grabbed it, seems like something the Arkham joker, would do based on the other games, going out of his way for a small gag. as for Oracle herself, I believe it was really her in the broadcast and the death scene itself, but when she was gassed, batman was likely gassed too, I see no reason why scarecrow wouldn't gas bats as well. we don't get much of a view of the room batman is in during the death scene with the 1st person-ish view, and fear gas has been shown to be quiet hard to detect, the only clues in asylum being slight distortions in the air and batman's coughing, so some gas could have been pumped into bat's room just behind him, likely boosting jokers control and could very well massively affect what bats sees. As for the bullet holes and the Barbara's death itself, I have 2 theories, 1. the gun was loaded with both real and blank rounds, i don't like this one though as its quite convoluted and does not make sense as they would risk a lot hoping she would empty the gun of live rounds by shooting at batman then shoot herself with the blank. 2. not a shot fired or no bullets in the gun, and batman saw the gun and Barbara pick it up and make motions as to firing and holding it to her head and the fear toxin filled in the blanks with shots and bullet holes, the holes staying just cause joker just wanting to fuck with batman even more (one thing I don't know is if the bullet holes in the glass stay after joker being locked away, cause if they do, that throws the whole 2nd theory out the window, and I'm left lost for an explanation of the bullet holes) This is in no way perfect explanation and I'm not trying to excuse the confusing nature of the scene, and players ideally shouldn't have to fill in the blanks of a scene with "maybes" and "perhaps" in hindsight in order to explain away an oversight of the developer. the confusing thing, is how fear toxin has so much power to fuck with minds, batman with joker in his head specifically making it really hard to distinguish anything from being real to just a hallucinations, hell nothing is stopping them from saying the whole scene is a hallucination, to the Barbara in the room to the gun to the shot, Scarecrow only inferring what batman is feeling, and speaking accordingly (he is a brilliant phycologist after all.) this is all dumb and confusing and I'm starting to develop a headache, night folks

John Noble is such a great Scarecrow, it’s hard for me to choose between him and Robert England from Injustice 2. And they gave him so many good lines. I made a Scarecrow voice performance video focused specifically on Arkham quotes, and probably 60-70 percent were Knight quotes. I do think he was underserved and think either Jason, Joker, or Crane himself should have cut to let the others get more time.

My biggest issue with Jason in AK is how he talks like some whiny RU-vidr. There's even a scene where he hacks into Batman's comms and the way he's walking and talking down into the camera makes it look like he's shooting a vlog. Powerful villains shouldn't need to shout how powerful they are from the rooftops. Honestly, same goes for Scarecrow, he prattles on and on through the billboards about what he's going to do and how's going to crush the bat. Power should speak for itself.
@godzillakin5151

To make the game better I would do what you suggested for Jason and the hologram talks. I would also remove the batmobile part of the arkham knights hq, and replace it with a predator section and more combat; aswell as reducing the need for the batmobile in puzzles. Reduce the amount of missiles the batmobile fires so only 6 at fully charged, and the emp would have a larger area so you would have to choose between a small amount of tanks being destroyed or lots being temporarily disabled; the hack on the tank would also focus on better tanks so unless it could only get a ratler, you would hack something else. You would have to wait to use the vulcan gun if the cannon was reloding. To make Deathstroke a better boss you would get three boss fights one would be a stealth fight like Jason and Deadshot for destroying all watch towers. The other one (you could do these two fights in whatever order) would be a combat fight for taking out all checkpoints; the final fight (which you could only do after finishing the other two)would be the same tank one we got except with only two cobras, then when you hit him with the batarang it wouldn't feel dumb as you have already beaten Deathstroke up so he is weak. Give way more screen time to Scarecrow, so the game would be longer, and instead of him talking about how the Batman is breaking he would say how the world is already realising he is breaking; you could make some of his intercom speeches incude talking to captured police and they would say things like "Batman won't be able to save the city". Scarecrow would also talk more about how much he personally hates Batman and how he wants revenge on him for letting Killer Croc maul him. The Hush side mission would change by having him blow up Wayne International plasa and he captures Luciouse, and you track him down by finding crime scenes similar to Zaze and Killer Moth to show how he is an identity thief. It would include crime scenes similar to the one at the militia crash (as I like how you have to rewind and fast forward slowly piecing it together), then would end with Hush finding out Batman is Bruce Wayne. To improve the DLC's I would would extend them and have Nightwing's take place in the iceberg lounge and you get to fight Solomun Grundy as the boss (because I loved that fight in city and want to see more of grundy). Then it ends with Nightwing getting ready to take Penguin back but finds Grundy escaped. For Catwoman's make it less hard, I took like a two week break before going back to that DLC. Then with Robin's focus on him feeling like he isn't good anuff to protect Gotham alone but he realises thanks to Barbra and maybe even a conversation with Dick (these DLC's would be pretty long) he is good anuff to protect the city. For Red hood's it would be similar to his normal one, but after he kills Black Mask Dick and Tim go after him leading them to find out Jason is alive and is killing criminals. It ends with him staying to his idea of killing criminals and he leaves. Maybe even an end scene with Damien watching over the conversation between Dick, Jason and Tim.

The tanks would have been a lot better if each type demanded the use of tactics Like instead of the weak spot being an insta kill it becomes the only way to damage them, since they should have a crew to make Batman unable to destroy the tanks, and the cannon just works as a way to stun them temporarily With the types of tanks that weakspot should be in another places like diamond backs need you to go behind them for damage, mambas have to be stun enough times to show that weak spot and cobras have that spot protected with a thick layer of armor that are not so resistant to ramming and the stationary guns are changed to predator sections and only can have their weaknesses exposed by removing the armor with the power winch

There’s one other thing that the Batmobile screw up that I never notice anybody saying. It takes away the real time gadget swapping gang the button layout. Detective vision used to be mapped to one of the shoulder buttons, but because that became a dedicated “Batmobile summon” button it got remapped to the d-pad, turning the d-pad into a detective vision/quick menu system hybrid. Having to go into a pause menu to pick gadgets disrupted the flow while exploring for riddler trophies and discouraged me trying different stealth tactics in predator missions. The worst thing about it is that it wasn’t necessary to do it. Had they kept the real-time gadget swapping they could have still had the Batmobile summon cued to the d-pad and when you had it selected have a hold of the gagdet button for a summon and a double tap for remote control. It may sound like I’m nitpicking but the lack of on-the-fly gadget swapping really fucked up the pace for me and turned exploration and predator combat into a boring chore.

I personally don't like the cobra sections. They are basically stealth sections in the BATMOBILE. Yeah, it's a way to apply one of Batman's most well known aspects to one of his most flashy means of transportation, but why? No one asked for a stealth section in a car! If I wanted stealth I'd do a predator encounter or just glide to avoid all the drones while the batmobile is at gcpd. It's superfluous in concept and boring/annoying in execution. And in regards to Jason, if they didn't add the changes you suggested I would say, just make batman figure it out on his own. I mean, for goodness sake, the world's greatest detective does jack squat to find out who the Knight is and relegated it to Alfred to just Google people from city and asylum to see who fit the m.o. the best. He could have pieced together all the personality traits of the Knight and gave Alfred the job of doing a reverse engineering of the Knights voice modulation instead of googling all those people.

regarding the barbara scene, i've always thought that it was always barbara inside, did shoot the gun, but never shot herself. it was more of her just cowering. because of the effect of fear gas. i've always thought that the fear toxin gave people the same vision if in proximity to another person induced with fear toxin. knight never gave any explanation for that but i'm basing it off of the different ways they've shown people experiencing the fear toxin. i can't give you a definitive answer as to how, but that's pretty much my guess. knowing what the joker did to barbara, there's definitely some form of fear barbara feels towards the joker. one thing that doesn't make sense is why would she shoot at bruce knowing he's batman? my headcanon (i'm calling baseless assumptions for this headcanon, bear with me) is that babs knows bruce is affected by joker's blood still and that she and bruce devised the plan to analyze the jokers to begin with. my base for this is the part where she tries to convince bruce to have tim help him. as for joker moving the gun, it's more bruce's perspective than barbara's. that's how i interpret the scene. very convoluted and based on stuff put in the start that seems to be forgotten. the fear toxin and how it works in groups were things i wish they were able to discuss.

I'm replaying Arkham Knight for the 100th time right now and I've never had a problem with the Batmobile itself, it's mechanics, or the battles in it. My issues have always been with the logic jumps. Why would Arkham Knight and Scarecrow use drones instead of manned tanks? Not enough soldiers? Then strap civilians to the sides. Batman can't destroy the tanks if it risk lives. He's fucked. I love the Riddler race tracks, but they make zero sense. He could never construct them, even with hundreds of robots. Given an abandoned Gotham and 10 years to work, maybe. Also, the way the Batmobile avoids killing people it hits.... an electric shock..... really? My other problem isn't really a logic issue. It's a Rocksteady decision issue. The complete lack of boss fights. That Deathstroke tease which leads to a half assed tank battle was the worst decision they've ever made. It was just lazy.

@@arkhamtony3775 I have always assumed it was because the Batmobile was always just a souped up race car so Jason thought Batman would be defenseless against the tanks. The tank style Batmobile wasn't revealed until the night of Jason's invasion. It just wasn't explained very well and it's pretty damn convenient that Bruce had Lucius Fox build such an offensive attack capable Batmobile right before Jason floods the city with tanks. Apparently it was Jokers blood effecting Bruce, pushing him to build such a destructive Batmobile. It's slightly explained in one of the text stories you unlock throughout the game. So when you think about it, Joker saved Bruce's life. If Joker hadn't pushed Bruce to build the new Batmobile, he would have still had the race car version and the tanks would have crushed him.

Eventually, the call would end just as you reach your destination I guess they wanted something more dynamic in Arkham Knight, but it really does throw off the pacing And, during the DLC mission involving Ra's, they introduce Nyssa as if we know her But I was just thinking to myself "who the fuck is Nyssa and why does she have a stupid name?" Apparently, Nyssa is Talia's sister. And she was NEVER mentioned before this. No cameos, no Easter Eggs; nothing. But when she shows up, Batman says her name as if he's known her for a long time "Well, you're playing a Batman game; obviously you're a fan of the character, but you haven't read the comics?" Yes, I am a fan of Batman, but not because of the comics. I was introduced to him via the Nolan movies and the Arkham games So, obviously there will be people playing this game who don't know the entire Batman mythos

The one part about the Batmobile sections I'd say I honestly disliked was the Cobra Tank Sections. Not that they're bad, but once the first one appears, multiple of those sections just keep appearing and they get real boring and feel the same, only different ones being the Arkham Knights fight and Deathstrokes

I am a defender of the deathstroke "fight". Arkham Knight takes place at least two decades after Origins. so to have the same fight with Slade wouldn't have shown Batman's growth through the years. This batman is so experienced, so prepared for anything and so well equipped he took down someone who was arguably the closest thing he had to an equal in a single move after defeating him when he had the upper hand in overwhelming force of the cloud burst tank. like imagine you play a game a couple times and you have to fight a boss in the game. you will struggle the first couple times, but then you get efficient and good enough that the boss will be a piece of cake for you. that's how I see the Deathstroke fight. can't say the same for Hush, guess they just wanted to tie a loose end and that's the best they got with that character.

I like that Arkham Knight acknowledges the wider DC Universe does exist in the Arkhamverse, but I find it hard to believe that Superman would just sit on his ass while Scarecrow basically takes over Gotham with an army while also threatening to detonate a chemical weapon in the city (what I'm trying to say is I'd like an in universe explanation as to why Superman wouldn't at least offer to help Batman but I know that if he did show up, then there'd be no Arkham Knight)

I think your critique of the tank battles was perfectly salient and valid, great job on that. I do disagree about the video calls, as I think they are a necessary addition to the game in building some kind of emotional connection to what would otherwise just feel like a bunch of disembodied voices and if you're not being forced into them then you're distracting yourself with something else while they're trying to talk with you, often about heavy emotional stuff. You really need to speak face to face with the bat-family to get you to care about them in the way that is crucial to the story. Additionally, I think the devs have explicitly said that Arkham Knight doesn't have "boss battles", and so viewing these "bosses" in the same way that you would for example like Mr Freeze in Arkham City or Deathstroke in Origins isn't really a fair comparison and should be viewed without that tint in your glasses and looked at through the lense of just another unique gameplay challenge. So for example, if I were to critique such an encounter like the Killer Croc DLC fight, I'd argue that it's bad because it's just a reskinned version of the big Joker guy in the movie studios. If I were to critique the Deathstroke fight it's that the reasonable expectation when it comes to that character isn't remotely the notion of fighting him in a tank battle that ends instantly the moment he leaps out of it to strike you and thus feels incredibly anti-climactic relative to the buildup in-game to that confrontation. Even Jason Todd isn't a boss fight, it's an advanced variation of a stealth challenge. With the Barbara thing, there could very easily have been a gun in the chamber and part of Batman's hallucination was Joker moving it around. If he could hallucinate an entire person through this entire game, he could also hallucinate slight details about how the gun moves as another person he is hallucinating picks it up. The more unrealistic part is how neither Batman or Alfred question what he's seeing given that he has been under the visible and recognized hallucinogenic influence of fear toxin all night, but I can excuse that as them obviously being emotional rather than logical about the situation. Completely agreed about the DLC entries. I haven't had the same experience with regards to glitches at all on PS4 and 5. As for Scarecrow I simply find your analysis lacking as you simultaneously gush over the scenes he's in and how impactful they are, before making arbitrary complaints about his amount of screentime without criticizing how this actually relates to the story, since Scarecrow doesn't need to be a complicated person you can sympathize with, he's a narrative device with which to explore Batman's psyche and create conflict, and if that takes the form of John Fucking Denethor Noble chewing the scenery now and again, I'm all for it. Jason Todd is the villain you're supposed to sympathize with, not Scarecrow, one of his interview tapes in Asylum has his prison doctor declare him to just simply be evil. But I also agree entirely with what you said about the Jason twist, I literally thought your solution before you said it. the twist doesn't add anything, it's his identity that matters. With some restructuring you could reveal his identity way earlier to greater effect throughout the narrative as a whole.

Good video, good video! My love/ hate for this game will be just as timeless as this game it seems. For me, I would've made Hush the Arkham Knight, especially after all his tough talk in Arkham City lol. Imagine a scene on a rainy rooftop where Batman unmasks himself in a situation where he has to. And then Arkham Knight does too, willingly. Only for us to see another Bruce Wayne... While Hush wouldn't be able to go toe to toe with Batman for long, that's where Scarecrow comes in to tackle the more mental side of things for Bruce - Thus making the physical fight harder (and harder). A true test of Batman's strengths and what he embodies. I deeply wish we got something, ANYTHING other than Red Hood. His uniform has red in it, his tanks are fucking red - I was hoping it was all a... red herring. It was so obvious that I even second guessed myself thinking that "maybe it actually IS a "completely new character made from the ground up"." Only get to that underwhelming "fight" with him and see "Oh, so it is indeed Jason. All of that marketing and lies/ misleading for this..? Sigh".

I don't agree with the last point. You have to understand that the vast majority of people who bought Arkham Knight haven't probably played Asylum and City, and if so, they do not remember them well and never cared about deeper lore. Probably just saw some of the movies. Most of them probably have not seen the cartoons. Arkham games have ton of easter eggs and references, but it won't tell the average gamer anything. Most people haven't seen this twist coming. BUT, the problem i have with Jason beeing AK is that they never made us care about him, and few scenes in AK were just not enough to be emotionally invested. Other than that I would enjoy more face to face dialogue between him and Bruce. It was a gold mine they missed. There is only a number of things that can make Bruce emotional. Other than that the thing that most displeases me not only in AK but throughout the series is recasting voice actors. Yes, Scarecrow, Barb amd Jim were great, but i kinda miss the earlier ones. AA Scarecrow was something else. And don't even get me started on Origins. They should have either recast all or none for prequel, the end result is pain for all of those who love Batman's characters in AA and AC. Are you okay with that?

I had a terrible time learning the batmobile, but I think it was more the UI was too small for me and there's too much on the screen going all at once for me to absorb normally. The slower pace tank fights were way easier to grasp. I know that it was realistic for the game to be cluttered, it is a full city and whatnot, but I wish the UI and the prompts were just larger. I actually had to look them up online on my phone. Again, that seems like a me problem, but that was my first complaint. My second one is the Riddler races, which to me, are impossible to do unless you're in first person mode, the loops give me motion sickness/vertigo, so that wasn't fun. Again, another me issue. But my BIGGEST COMPLAINT, the fight with the Arkham Knight, when you're in the batmobile trying to get away from him and leading him through the tunnels, that fight/race/whatever is so bad, I considered stopping. It is as bad, to me, as bad, as Titan Joker, and Titan Joker is only bad cosmetically and story wise, he's a fine boss fight. Then my biggest criticism with the combat is I REALLY hit the hit sparks when Batman makes contact with a normal punch, like Origins, Asylum, and City don't have those immersion breaking "Street Fighter like" hit sparks when Batman lands a good punch. They probably did it because the game is so dark and doesn't have snow to rely on to lighten things up like City and Origins did. They probably want your to have the bright confirmation that you actually hit someone but it kinda irritated me, took me a while to get used to it. And I super agree, super agree, Jason should have been outed way earlier. It would have really made Batman suffer more. There could have been a scene where Batman has the chance to take Jason down early, and do it conclusively, and he hesitates, they could have even thrown in a flashback that causes Batman to zone out and miss his chance. It would have been WAY BETTER. The why, not the who, you nailed it on the head for sure.

_"Barbara's death scene"_ 17:00 The scene has actually a very simple explanation : Batman hallucinated the whole thing - including Alfred's conversation and the broadcast. But first, a little bit of exposition. (I'll write it into two parts.) ¤¤¤¤¤ After the Ace Chemical event, Batman had breathed in the new concoction of Scarecrow's fear gas and starting having hallucination of his worst nemesis : the Joker ; which revealed himself to Batman by pointing a gun at him, most specifically towards his head and shooting. Here's the thing : Joker NEVER aims at Batman's head with the idea to shoot him dead. He wants to hurt Batman but never killing him (that's how twisted the guy is.) And any fan of Batman/Joker knows that. That's when and how the layers of subtelty in Arkham Knight _really_ starts to pile up. Because after Batman got "shot" by Joker, he has somewhat of a "flashback" of Gordon visitng the laboratory where four victims of Joker's blood scheme in Arkham City are held into containment cells, in order to find a way to cure them from their condition ; being turned into Joker. It's a very strange "flashback" because a huge chunk of it is seen from the perspective of Gordon, in first person mode. *Not* Batman. But by the end of it, having explained to Gordon that they were five "Jokers" to be and not four, you see the last empty cell in front of which Batman is standing, seeing his reflection in the glass, _in first person_ and saying _"he'll be here soon."_ The very next scene, Batman is coming back to reality in the currently exploding Ace Chemical plant, only to see Joker's disfigured face welcoming him straight to his own in a soothing voice : _"Bruuuuce~ Bruuuuuuuuuce~ ? Can you hear me, Bruce ?"_ After a short moment, he continues. seemingly Ecstatic. _"Oh, don't act all surprised, Bats. You knew this was going to happen sooner or later. Me, stuck deep inside you."_ _"Together we are going to give this city what it deserves. A New Batman. A better Batman. A darker, more- Well, we can come back to this later."_ _"First, we need to agree on some priorities. Sure, you saved the city by reducing the blast, but ACE Chemical is still about to explode. You need to start looking after yourself."_ After a short pause, he adds. _"After all, you're brooding for two, now."_ ending with his iconic laugh. After a short while, he concludes by a chilling : _"Yes, i'm really here, and no, you can't kill me again. I'm playing for keeps this time."_ After escaping from the exploding Ace Chemical plant to -relative- safety, Batman gets contacted by Alfred, which was (understandably) worried sick over the sight of the chemical plant going down ; being relieved by seeing him alive only immediatly worry again when Batman explained he got exposed to Scarecrow's toxin - even commenting about his episode in Arkham Asylum and the echo of his last encounter with Scarecrow. Most specifically, how the previous batch of his infamous toxin really messed with him, *_by making him see the apparent death of James Gordon"._* Batman simply and stoicly reassure him by saying : _"It's OK. I had a bad reaction. But it's over now."_ The image immediatly flickers, to replace the face of Alfred with that of Joker. _"I've really got to hand it to Scarecrow. I've never been a fan of his concoction up to now, but this batch, it's... intoxicating. It really brings out the me in you."_ As the clown finishes with his iconic laugh. The image then flickers back to Alfred. _"Sir, did you hear what i said ? Commissioner Gordon has been trying to contact you."_ Batman simply thank him and switch to the Commissioner, which start by stating : _"You got out ! See, i said you wouldn't let me down."_ Batman simply states in return : _"I need to speak to you."_ _"Sure, what is it ?"_ ask the Commissioner. _"Meet me outside GCPD Prisoner Detention. I'm heaing there now."_ which conclude the scene. This scene... was perfection. It's a mille-feuille of subtelty and coherency. Because it helps establishing one simple fact : Batman was falling. Joker's hallucination was the visual and auditory manifestation of his own sickly condition ; his hijacking of Batman's communication with Alfred the clear evidence of his losing grasp on reality, whereas Gordon, representing the diametral opposite of Joker, was the one factor helping him resisting the influence of Joker - that Batman loses touch with as the story progress. It's was a subtle back and forth that helped setting the tone for the rest of the game. Because that's really what happening throughout the whole game : Batman is *sick.* Actually, physically sick. Yet, instead of resting, he does what he always does : pushing himself in his fight against crime. But this time, it's worst : he's fighting against the *Joker inside of him.* In all sense of the term. And what makes it worst than ever before ? Because, due to Scarecrow's toxin, that Joker is the worst that Batman, himself, could ever envision him to be. One that is seemingly omnipresent (appearing on commercial boards replacing quotes and pictures, replacing statues faces with his own, even appearing randomly in places to comment over random things) omniscient (as he knows everything Batman does) and, albeit not omnipotent (like attempting to choke Batman on Staggs aircraft), gets gradually closer to be... Simply put : *it is the "Joker" Batman imagine to be the worst and, therefore, fears the most.* (see part 2)
@Tenhys
@Tenhys 2 года назад
(Part 2) ¤¤¤¤¤ Now, onto to Scarecrow's escape with the Cloudburst scene. On Staggs aircraft, Batman got a direct breath in from Scarecrow's aerosol - after Joker tricked Batman into hallucinating the presence of two Scarecrow (Joker posing as the wrong one.) This additionnal exposure to Scarecrow's toxin made Batman overdose enough to manifest the symptom of Joker taking control over his body ; displaying unprecedented levels of violence into dealing with freshly mobilised milita troops, nearly killing them in the process. But the most important part of this scene is the last one : as the seemingly lost Batman gets close on the last conscious member of the militia, multiple hallucinaitons of the Joker appear near him ; murmuring and influencing Batman into thinking that soldier to be "no different than the creep who killed your parents". The next part of the hallucination make a litteral gun appear in Batman's hand. With Joker saying, in a almost sensual voice _"Good..."_ Then having Batman pull the trigger, only to have the hallucination end right after ; Batman dropping to his knees over the realization of what -he has- could've done. Scarecrow's then comment _"Something's changed. You're different!"_ in regard of Batman's unnatural behavior, before escaping with the Cloudburst and the Akrham Knight covering the escape by shooting rockets at Staggs maimed airship, knocking Batman out cold for an undetermined period of time. It's only AFTER he woke up from that passing out that he "receives" a call from Alfred, leading to the infamous scene with Barbara. ¤¤¤¤¤ Now, it's finally time for Barbara's scene. Here's the thing : the whole scene was a hallucination. From Alfred's call to Scarecrow's appearence on the TV screens in Ivy's cell in Chinatown, down to Barbara "committing suicide" : *the Joker was the one screwing with Batman the whole time.* Not Scarecrow. In fact, there's one critical delivery line in that scene that says it all : _"What ? We hurry all the way here and Crane's killed her already ?! He's got no sense of occasion."_ as Joker says, seemingly disappointed, from _outside_ the box. With Batman. Scarecrow then appear on the screens : _"We both know that fear is theatrics, Batman, so permit me the indulgence of putting on this show."_ says the "doctor of fear" with seemingly perfect timing. _"Ooh, maybe i got bag-face wrong."_ states then Joker, in a seemingly innocent tone, from _inside_ the box. With Barbara. The next passage is very interesting - actually, the most interesting one. Joker moves quickly to the center of the stage and states : _"Oh oh, here comes the toxin! I can practically taste it!"_ The toxin got released EXACTLY when the clown finished saying _"toxin!"_ WITHOUT receiving a hint from Scarecrow. But it's the very next passage that really reveals the whole scene for what it is : a hallucination. Barbara wakes up, breating the toxin without realising and asking what was going on. Panicked, like never before, Batman called for her. And as her face turn towards the glass, her face starting to express fear, Scarecrow deliver this absolutely perfect line : _"Yes. You see it now. The horror behind the glass, the monster that will be your end... unless you pick that gun and deny him."_ That line... is one of the most perfect line i've ever seen delivered in any game or movie whatsoever. Because the moment "Scarecrow" says _"The horror behind the glass, the monster that will be your end"_ is EXACTLY the moment Joker quickly go to sit on the table. BEHIND the glass. The same glass covering a cell reminiscent of Batman's movie laboratory, where he said that he would bring the fifth joker to. And the _"... unless you pick that gun and deny him."_ line ? And the one that follows Barbara's "suicide" _"You will bring death to all who follows you ?"_ That's not Scarecrow adressing neither Barbara nor Batman : *IT'S JOKER ADDRESSING BATMAN !* Furthermore, by that point in time, Batman already determined that Barbara got herself into a car accident that *she herself* caused. All so that she had the occasion of hiding and leaving a flash card for Batman to follow. Getting in a car accident is NOT going to leave you unscathed, especially for a cripple. Yet in the "suicide scene" : her face an skin are pristine. Whereas on the roof where Scarecrow drops her ? She has scars everywhere. That was the proof that the Barbara in Chinatown was a hallucination. Additionnaly, in one of Riddler's unlockable records of the Arkham Knight, we clearly hear him having revealed his true identity to Barbara and, once he finished talking to her and put back his mask, gives a warning to the militia man he orders around to move her to a new location : if anyone hurt her, they're dead men. Thus it could've never been Barbara in that cell. Whomever would've attempted anything on her - even Scarecrow - would've to face the Arkham Knight. Not a beneficial prospect... ¤¤¤¤¤ As for the "impacts" on the glass... here's the final kicker. Since the whole thing was an hallucination, nothing was the way it happeared to be. In fact, for all we know : it may be Batman himself that put the wheelchair inside the room. Or, most specifically, Joker taking control of Batman's body while he was unconscious, going to the Clock Tower to grab Barbara's wheelchair, putting it into the room where Ivy was located, using anything to cause the three impacts on the glass (like his fists ; a realistic proposition considering that the glass was weak enough for Ivy to leave a big crack by bashing the head of a militia man into it. Yet somehow strong enough to withstand three 9mm rounds shot at point blank range ?) and only then going back to Staggs airship, giving back the wheel to Batman. The real Joker was crazy, twisted and smart enough to pull that kind of move. And since Batman was hallucinating HIMSELF as Joker, as it's worst depicturation he could've ever make of him, i wouldn't get that scenario out of the equation. ¤¤¤¤¤ TL;DR : the Joker shown in the game was actually Batman's tormenting himself. Essentially, Batman was fighting against himself and it was his own intellect, sickened by Joker's blood disease, that concocted the hallucinations that tormented him, under the appearance of Joker ; playing on his fears and guilt. The whole time we saw Joker act and spoke : it was actually Batman's very own brain turning against him, as a symptom of the disease (which got only worse with Scarecrow's fear toxin.) The wheelchair ? The impacts on the glass ? All made by Batman himself ; by the disease taking over as the night progressed and his grip on reality and his own body got more tenuous by the passing hours.

Jason was really poorly handled in this game 1. Why is he so subordinate to Scarecrow in the first place? It is shown his intent to kill Batman from the start conflicting with Scarecrow orders but what leverage Scarecrow held against Arkham knight? There is dialogue in the game from milicia implying that if they were to choose between following orders from Scarecrow or Arkham Knight they would follow the latter so why he didn't acknowledge that and took advantage to try and take over Gotham and actually get the revenge since Scarecrow was actually playing with a dangerous food all along. 2. Complexity they could have given him 2.1 Just present him as red hood all along completely independent of Scarecrow while one want to kill the other wants to break then they have their own Conflicts with each other. That would probably solve the whole Arkham knight problem and Scarecrow having less screentime then Joker probably considering all the times he appears just to mess with Bruce. 2.2 Now this would be challenging but they could have Red hood being a conflicted character leading the milicia that took advantage of Scarecrow evacuating the city so they could kill every criminal of Gotham then have Batman trying to stop him and everytime he got close to Red Hood he would find himself getting caught by his weaknesses and be presented to a bitter opponent that knows him well. Once Batman caught him and he gets revealed as Jason, Bruce obviusly won't take him to GCPD but to batcave OR Panessa Studios where we could see some interactions between TIm and Jason AND him finding out about the whole Batman is becoming the Joker plot and now actually trying to stop or KILL (just so i can make a point later) Bruce so he won't let his former mentor and father figure become his greatest FEAR and now we have an actual leverage Scarecrow could have had against Arkham Knight and an actual good reason for him to be conflicted and wanting to kill Batman.

I actually think Batman knows Jason is the Arkham Knight, but doesn't want to believe it, batman isn't stupid, he recognizes his training being enacted. Batman never usually cares who his villains are, Bane and Joker still are unnamed in the profiles, but Batman suddenly cares with the Knight, desperately searching for alternatives, asking Alfred to find anyone else it could be, but he knows in the back of his mind there's only one man with the skill like that, thats why he begins to hallucinate Jason, he has him actively on his mind, knowing he failed and its clawing at him, seeing Jason like that. Jason even says "You really don't know who I am, Bruce?", Even Jason thought Batman would have figured it out.

I have some objections 1)The one and only problem with the batmobile, is that it is not lore accurate. It doesn't feel like batman. When I play an arkham game, I want the game to make me feel like batman. To say it more clearly, batman does not use tanks and should never do. 2)The length of the arkham episodes were meant to be short. Each arkham game has a long dlc. For city is Harleys revenge, for origins is cold cold heart and for knight is the Batgirl dlc. The remaining arkham episodes from arkham knight are only comparable to the Catwoman episodes from city. But those were also short. 3)Joker was indeed great, and probably he shined more in knight than anywhere else in the franchise, but he should be used less. Again, I want to feel like batman when I play those games and batman doesn't have joker above his head every single moment. 4)i honestly don't see your point about Scarecrow. He is great and you kind of admitted yourself. He could be better but theoretically everything could be better and he was more than adequate so... What's your point? 5)i agree with everything else. I would also add that the side missions were so repetitive. I admit that this isn't a good argument because in city side missions were also repetitive, but I hated every side mission related to the militia. If a want more combat or more stealth I will play in the challenge mode. I want my side missions to be related to a super villain with interesting character and motives. So many villains wasted and remained unused.

I can breeze through this game but when you get close to the endgame, the drone tank battles get more difficult and IMO are the most difficult aspect to not only the main quest but the entire game in general. The open world is the best one in the series, traversal is awesome, fear multi takedown was a perfect addition for stealth sections, and the combat is amazing. Having the batmobile in Arkham knight really helps in differentiating the game from other games in the series. The reason i don't hate the batmobile is because it's controls are extremely satisfying. But i will absolutely agree it gets too egregious in boss fights. Arkham knight, deathstroke and firefly were all batmobile fights, which is a low number. But the other boss fights are really mediocre compared to origins and city. Harvey dent was a normal goon, penguin was a qte, deacon blackfire was a short puzzle, & pyg and riddler were actually really fun fights. In the end, the bloated nature of arkham Knight does hold it back from being perfect as the other games (especially city), but there's no denying arkham knight is the perfection of the arkham games.

I realy wish the side missions were longer like crocs was so disappointing It was so scary for me and since killer croc is my favourite Batman villain and this is my fav croc design. (Excluding Lego Batman movie ). He fealt so underused. Like the fact that he looks so much for like a monster and is so much more scary and animalistic but is just used for a cheap Albert king knock off fight is so so sad. And I wish they were more in depth like the pug one is awesome but I whish it was longer. And I wish there were more. Like take horizon zero dawn. That is one of my fav games it has like 20 side missions. And I get the map is smaller which I also dislike but still. Also I wish. The r e was more r e ward for exploring the city apart from riddler trophy’s. Like I’m hoo be if there was like 3 pages of side missions but you only found them through exploring the city. Like for instance the shadow war one. A croc one were he travels throughout the sewers and when your driving the Batmobile around in the tunnels you see him Bigfoot walk across the screen Or for the love of god. Make a damn Detective one where you get stalked

Thanks for the video, for the Batmobile, I think that the limited moveset are there for two Reason. First tech/coding limitation, first time appearance of this Kind of gameplay in the franchise Make for limited in Integration, second reason, Batman is so versatile in battle or in puzzle because of his gadget and having the Batmobile be has much versatile would render foot sequence useless ( why keep fighting indoors If the Batmobile can have a view on the fights). For Jason, firstly I did'nt know this lore of Batman before playing Arkhan knights, so the Twist work for me, altought for Ones WHO would knew, i would hâve fine it a little differently, having Jason reveal himself in Ace chemicals but with a way indicating he is wearing some Kind of mask. So it would Batman wondering le f it was really Jason ans why he was doing all of that. Because the minute Batman knows the Real identity of the Arkham knights, he can no longer be a foot behind so making Bruce/Batman unsure that Jason is really alive or not would keep the edge advantage. Furthermore, WE are talking about the greatest plan of Scarecrow, would coule be using the lost of Jason to manipulate even more Batman giving a false reason to believe tha Jason isn't alive and some is trying to pass for Jim. I think I'm starting to understand why so many people think you're forced into the Batmobile for so much longer than you actually are. Because you spent basically all the time you're in it doing the same thing, fighting the exact same repetitive enemies with combat that doesn't have nearly enough depth to justify how much you use it, it really does kinda gives the impression you're using it for a lot longer than you actually are, the tanks are basically the main enemy type and fighting them starts feeling like a chore after a while, because they're so easy to deal with it's basically impossible to fail and like you said, the tank combat is just shallow, no matter how good it controls. It's just explosions after explosions after explosions and that's basically all you remember from it, making it feel like there was a lot more of it than there actually was.
@abaddononion
@abaddononion Год назад
I think there's one detail being left out in these Batmobile discussions. The first time most of us played Arkham Knight, we were coming off of City and maybe Origins. Which means we were all veterans at the combat and predator sections. Yes there were adjustments to new mechanics, but for the most part we knew what we were doing. The tank combat was completely foreign. You might have had racing game experience, but no matter what kind of gamer you are nothing would have prepared you for this exact tank combat engine they created whole cloth. This meant most players, such as myself, spent way more time dying and redoing tank combat sections as we were trying to learn the ins and outs of the system, while we absolutely breezed through combat and predator missions so fast it was almost depressing. I think this is a huge factor that led to the feeling of Arkham Knight being overwhelmingly batmobile. With constant retries, that 20%/30% goes up to maybe 30%/40%. But because it's the part of the game where you're failing over and over, you're frustrated and not having fun, so it feels more like 60%, and you feel like there wasn't enough "fun" content because the fun parts whip by so fast.

Yes, and honestly, having it be shallow spectacle isn't necessarily an issue if you used it in, say 10 encounters max in the main story. You need a handful of smaller skirmishes so you can learn it and get decent at it, and then towards the end have a few big set pieces with it, where the spectacle of it would truly shine. Had it been used that way people would probably be saying it made a great game even better . . . and you could still have plenty of Batmobile, just a lot more of it in actual car mode and chase sequences (most people like that aspect of the Batmobile in the game). Also, eliminate most of the Batmobile puzzles. They are mostly awkward and forced. The Batmobile is not known for puzzle solving, detective work, or stealth in most Batman media anyway. It is mostly reserved for chases (as a crime fighter, it only makes sense you would end up in a car chase, as regular police deal with them too).

The thing that really gets me about the sub-par bosses in Knight is how many times this game was pushed back because they wanted to make sure they released the game they really had in mind for fans. And it's clearly a labor of love (although, I absolutely never asked for an "end" to the Arkham series or Batman). After what City and Origins gave us, Knight's bosses were a serious letdown. I don't know what it is that you like about Man-Bat's inclusion as a boss. It's barely even interactive and takes absolutely no skill on any of the three occasions you'll have to take him down. Hush was the biggest letdown because of how much City built his arc up to begin with, and rumor is that the story Dini had suggested for Knight would've had Hush as a primary antagonist. Everyone else gets repetitious FAST, and it doesn't help that two of the guys you'll spend time putting away are Simon Stagg and the fire chief. Must be a good two-dozen actual Batman villains they could've given us instead, but we get Stagg and a fire chief. Then, there's the replay value. It's not just the gauntlet coms. I play this game over from scratch a LOT (all of these games), and every time I do, I find myself hating the whole Ace Chemical arc at the beginning more and more, just like I do everything up until you get the suit in City, clear the first tower in Origins, and get outside in Asylum, but those don't take all night to get through. Everything from the start of Knight up until the point you start to trace where they've taken Oracle (basically, everything until you can actually leave Bleake) always leaves me feeling a bit strangled. And I have mixed feelings on Joker. I was already tired of Joker when this game came out, and since then we've gotten Suicide Squad, the Snyder Cut, a solo film, and a bit cameo in the new film. In this game, he's fine on the first time through. Especially since he's not really there and acts as the manifestation of Bruce's own fears and personality. It's the implications of the Joker patients that gets me, and it all takes away from what Scarecrow and everyone else are doing. But on replays, I wish I could just shut him off entirely. There have been replays where I've just rushed through the main story just so I didn't have to sit through his commentary every time I finish a side quest. And then there's the stuff that the other games had and this game doesn't, whether it's individual move sets, or the entire campaign challenge system. The whole damn thing just adds up to frustration for me. Even though I still like the end result, I just didn't love it the way I wanted to.

One idea I saw somewhere for Hush that I really liked was Hush being the Knight with the Red Hood as his Robin. An intentional parallel to Batman in an attempt to get into his head and ruin him. It's even supported by the comics, in the original Hush run Clayface appears disguised as Jason, but when Under the Red Hood released it was retconned that, at first, it was Jason, working with Hush, who traded places with Clayface later.

@Goldnfoxx
@Goldnfoxx 2 года назад
@@itzderrio Knight has a crap ton of options for combat, most of which I couldn't care less about. They removed Batman's stun combo in favor of being able to pick up weapons, and removed things like Nightwing's wrist darts (which also happened to be the thing that made me love playing predator missions as Nightwing in the first place), In terms of gadgets, the lion's share of Batman's arsenal in Knight are defensive or passive in nature, limiting the variety of ways you can take down thugs to rigging their guns to blow, with offensive gadgets like the sonic shock Batarang completely gone with nothing comparable to replace it. Tthe Batclaw no longer pulls enemies off of ledges. The entire experience of playing predator sections and maps in Knight is consequently very different to how they played in City and Origins. So...yeah, the movesets are different, and depending on what it was that you liked about the modes in previous games, you may or may not have as much fun with Knight's variation. The changes necessarily forces people who play the way I do to change everything about their approach. Again, I don't despise the changes, but I also much, much, much prefer the way City and Origins did things.

For the villains. Honestly make Promethius real, bring in him, Todd, Elliot, and Scarecrow and have them work together. Todd and Promethius handling the militia, main strategy for bats; Scarecrow for psychological trauma and casualties which he already did extremely well; and use Elliott here to fund them by being Bruce. All that opens up incredibly interesting dialog opportunities and a possibility even better chance to give Todd a chance to turn and help. Hell this would either mean making a 2 game story or a much longer game therefore more story either way. And also get off the whole campaign in a night thing. It stopped working in Origins, even though it still worked for me. As for Jason DLC, honestly going through his side could easily be used for his dlc even to where you potentially have the ability to kill Bats or Join him via a potential trap that leads to bats bring captured. All of this could easily be a 3 part story. One where Todd fights Batman at the end loses then says he'll pay leading to 2 where he creates the Quartet I mention above before having second thoughts as explained above which lead to him saving the day, and 3 showing what he went through with Joker from Todd's perspective

Having Mr J be his greatest fear (or the fear of becoming him) makes sense to me. Asylum is about has a healthy joker, City has a dying joker And knight has the ghost of joker. They're all about the joker haunting batman, one way or another. I think batman finally locking the joker away in his mind is not only a great way to represent batman overcoming his fear, but also a true and final death to the Clown prince of crime. Maybe it's just me, but I really feel like as a trilogy of stories, Joker works really well as the ever present demon that, dead or alive, is still there to ruin Bruce's night

After Joker's death, something is clearly off about him, and Joker is still clearly at the forefront of his mind. Considering this, it is clear they did not shoehorn him in because they didn't know what to do without Joker. Joker was meant to play a prominent role from the start.
