This documents all the shader, lighting, shadow and visual issues within Cutscenes of "Winter Contingency" in Halo Reach on the Master Chief Collection. Totaling 15 visual bugs within 3 cutscenes

Thank you!! Game preservation is important to me. Especially Halo. I hope SOMEONE fixes it eventually. Whether it's 343 or modders

Thank you! I'm gonna do a video for every mission's cutscenes, finding everything I can. Preserving these games properly is very important to me.

One consistent bug that hasn't been fixed is the radio filter in Reach, characters sound like they're right next to you and the filter isn't applied!

The friendly radio is also far too quiet. Something is seriously broken with the audio. There's a comparison in the Nightfall video.

The bloom in legacy Reach was fine. It was the TAA that gave the game its blurry look, 343 removed TAA from Reach when porting to MCC Some assets in the game were also created around the use of bloom softening the textures to hide lower res objects.

I noticed both the UNSC cruiser and frigate in-atmosphere cannon tracer is missing, or changes to other random tracers, the space version works correctly though. The reason for there being two versions is one glows a constant colour in space, and the other transitions from white hot to tan in atmosphere, and is broken.

Is that the 'Tip of The Spear' issue? Where Grafton's autocannons are using Covenant projectiles instead of UNSC ones?

@Whoatedmycookiez yeah, they can actually change too, I think depends on what other projectile was last fired can be blue or green plasma, "Pillar of Autumn" mission uses the same projectile and switches to different colours also but it's further away in the background.

The bloom seems to be a big issue, it looks like it is in 720p😂 Also is this noticable in any other titles like halo 3 or 2?

Yes. 3, ODST and 4 suffer from this. 2 had this fixed in S8. The way it was coded was, the game will bloom by X pixels at 1152X720. It was hardcoded to make it run better since the resolution won’t change on 360. On PC, It still blooms by the same number of pixels but at 1080p so the effect was lessened. When 343 “Fixed” bloom, they just bumped up the sliders without checking or fixing the resolution scaling problem. Even the VISR lines in ODST are effected by this problem are are nearly invisible on Series X

@@Whoatedmycookiez kind of a cheap way for them to "fix" the problem, they probably could have just set the bloom to be either 1 setting no matter the resolution or just have the player make a setting for the bloom themselfs in the settings menu.

I can understand though. Bungie hard-coded it into their games. Changing that is gonna be difficult. 343 could've put more effort into it though. It does seem lazy, especially when Halo CE and 2 had almost ALL their issues fixed. Even lighting ones Some effects were coded around framerate too. Recoil, shadow transitions and light adaptation in ODST were coded around 30fps and break at 60.

The MCC version is superior to the legacy version in every way. As a halo reach marathon runner.

The only thing holding the legacy version back was the hardware of the time which is still the case when being emulated as a Xbox 360 title, so of course MCC doesn’t have that issue and they can allow higher resolutions, higher frame rates, as well as Anti Aliasing, but that doesn’t take away from the fact that the visuals and shadows and lighting are worse than what they were in the original release, along with bugs that weren’t in the original, all of which shouldn’t be the case really, as MCC was meant to tribute to the classic games all put into a collection, so they should be trying to keep the games at least in their original states before deciding to add anything else.
