I always interpreted the "can you blush" line as a mockery (or actual curiosity) of Blade being half-human, and so you know...warmblooded unlike the Bloodpack (where none can blush). Today I learn.

@stormqueen29
@stormqueen29 6 месяцев назад
@@ZenoNightwing The racist part comes from thinking that a person of color could not blush because their skin is so dark. Which is of course ridiculous, because even if it were not possible to see a noticable flush in their cheeks, the physicality of blushing doesn't change with skin color. Hence, racist - suggesting only white people can blush. The second part is a deeper insult. Blade is not a 100% true vampire. He is considered a dhampir. And while he has many vampire attributes, he is immune to daylight and has a few other special traits. BY asking if Blade could blush, something a vampire cannot do, he is insinuating Blade is inferior. A dual insult to Blade's life

I like to think that the Blood Pack trained for two years to fight Blade as he existed when they started training. By the time they met him, their two years of training was two years out of date.

One note. That full body, high speed, super hero, CGI in Blade 2 was a first realization for the film industry. For the time, it was a holly crap moment in the theaters. It leads into the more believable stuff we see today. I think Spiderman in 2002 was the next time we saw it, and it was really fine-tuned at that point.

Every woman in Blade's- Eric's- life has been an enemy or pretty much helpless without his interference. Nyssa came in knowing how to fight and also stood down. So the first chick to not mistreat him, add in that she's pretty, and she can understand him ("I made peace with what I am long ago" and "you think you're better than us; shooting that serum in your arm?") enough to talk sense to him. That is a rare thing for what would be an AVERAGE guy. Add in the crapshow HIS life has been.

Blade 2 is somewhat underrated. Del toro doesn’t get enough credit for what he created. He added so much artistic flair to the franchise. The film is an enhancement to its predecessor, it has great subtext and continuity, (world-building), excellent performances, a sympathetic villain, another great score and well polished action sequences. I love the inverted narrative of vampires being the prey. Vampires hunting vampires. The duality is symbolic and reminiscent of other great stories with the same effect, (think Terminator 2). Snipes was in his element here. The film is the epitome of comic-book entertainment at its finest. The supernatural aspect is amped up because the reapers are nightmarish, demonic and terrifying in aesthetic. It’s perhaps the best display of vampire-horror your ever likely to see. Oh and the ending is so delightful as it is hilarious. A clever payoff to an earlier scene.

As for the film itself, yes, it doesn't quite match up to the original Blade, but it's definitely one of the better sequels to a definitive first film. It kept enough of the feel to seem like the same world, while also switching things up enough that the audience wouldn't get a sense of deja vu. Don't know if I'm the only one, but I think of Blade II as a "blueprint" for Del Toro's Hellboy. It stars Ron Perlman, Luke Goss and Karel Roden, revolves around monsters fighting other monsters, makes use of body horror imagery, has extensive scenes about hunting abominations in the sewers... Reedus' character even wears a Hellboy t-shirt.

I knew Guillermo del Toro took inspiration from the designs of the vamps in this movie for the ones in The Strain but damn. They're almost the same! I mean tbf they are AWESOME!

My little brother and I walked out of the theater after watching it the first time, immediately turned around and walked back in for a second helping. Doesn’t hurt that we were in Bangkok and it was blazing hot outside.

17:19 I mean it almost definitely wasn’t a reference, but it is funny that Lee calls it an Insane Elbow Drop, on a video that dropped the same day as Kairi Sane, a woman whose finisher is literally called the InSane Elbow Drop, returned from a hiatus to WWE. Made me smile, at least

Asad (the Blood Pack member) was Cat from Red Drawf, so I will always have a soft spot for him, even if he is a super evil bad guy🤷🏼‍♀️

I adore Blade I and II, and while II isn't as objectively good as I, what it does do very well is explore new facets of the hero; Blade has to compromise and later develops a bit of a Romeo & Juliet romance with Nyssa which asks new questions of him. One thing I'm also realising is these two films prove the old adage about a great villain is often the making of a great film. Frost and Nomak are very different but still very memorable antagonists. The Blade Win videos leave me with happy teenage nostalgia vibes

Was so weird when I saw Danny John-Jules show up in this fighting Blade after all the years I'd known him just from Red Dwarf. I guess it makes sense with his background in dance he'd be a decent choice for choreographed ninja fight scenes.

I think the "can you blush" line Blade sends back to Perlman is also genius. Through the whole movie the Bloodpack proved they werent up for the task of killing Blade, normal vampires are inferior to both Dhampirs and Reapers, also their boss is trying his damnest to replicate what makes Blade superior but he can't. So by saying that to Perlman hes basically telling him hes just a vampire and thats what he'll ever be.

I was always disappointed Danny-John Jules didn't get more movie roles as he did well in this. I guess in a film with Snipes, Perlman and Goss it would always be hard for the Cat from Red Dwarf to stand out to anyone besides those who watched the show.
