I didn't notice till now but when Todd explains his insult about Scott being dust on Monday, and that today was Friday, Friday to Monday is 3 days.

“Is Scott here” “You know what?” *jumps out window* “He just left…” Actually disappointed for one of the greatest jokes in the whole movie not making it on here

“You’re bi curious? Well I’m BI FURIOUS!” I laughed at this the first time I heard it

Other things that I love : Ramona always say “exes” when Scott say “boyfriends” due to number 4 , and each time she speaks about Gideon she scratches her head where the chip is .

How did you not win his exit through the small window? That was the only time i laughed embarrassingly loud in a theater

Fun fact, when Brian Lee O’Malley started dating her ex-wife, he found out that all of her ex’s ex boyfriends had the same name, so they joked that all of them were part of a super villain league and he would have to fight them; so when O’Malley started writing Scott Pilgrim he used that idea for the comic book.

Did you notice how scott was unknowingly making his own evil exes throughout the film?

The term “Bifurious” should’ve definitely counted as a win!

Matthew Patel: "Look out, it's that ONE guy!", also the 1 chevron on his sleeve means he could be in the Marines, because he's a pirate. Lucas Lee: Has stunt DOUBLES, asked about sloppy SECONDS, died after crashing on "like 200 steps". Todd Ingram: Today's Friday, and the cleaning lady comes on Monday, THREE days away. Also the three bass battles. Roxie: Her weakness is the back of her knee, discovered in FOREplay.

Not just a green eyed yeti. But specifically a "green eyed monster." Scott is green with envy that he no longer has Ramona, Gideon does at that point. The pedal he hits even says G.E.M.

When the roof gets torn off the building and you can see the moon, you can see a hole in the moon. That's the same hole that Todd (I think it was Todd) punched a hole through for Ramona. Is that a win for attention to detail?

Wait, in the "girl vs. Girl" stage, you forgot to mention that Ramona brings a giant hammer out of nowhere, just like the bags on RPGs and Anime.

"The guy on bass...that's todd" "I know!" "Oh yeah?" "You know?" "OH YEAH!" "Oh no..." Is like the best scene progression in all of history and you can fight me over it until you pop into couch change if you like :D BTW; Isn't that actually Brie herself doing a cover of 'Alive' in that scene? IDK, i've heard it is and it is certainly not the album version of that song.

7:38 "Scott Pilgrim dated Captain Marvel, outsmarted Captain America, and headbutted Superman to death." That guy's a legend!

Apparently Edgar Wright got all the main actors to actually properly learn instruments and form a band together. The rough, garage rock band sound is because most of them had never picked up an instrument before, and it meant all the actors became genuine friends through it. Also I can't believe you didn't mention Roxy was just Egg

The Nega Scott thing was even more clever than I initially thought. The whole last act was about Scott overcoming himself. The coming clean about not breaking up with knives, asking for forgiveness, shirking off his lethargic attitude, the sword of self respect, etc... He had already made peace his negative self by this point in the movie, so it makes perfect sense that when his negative self manifests itself, he makes peace with him too. And it was all wonderfully set up in the ninja game in the beginning of the movie when Scott could never beat the nega ninja, so he doesn't even try at first. That and the bus scene where Scott and Ramona are talking and there are pink Zelda hearts going by in the background subtly disguised as light shining through the buss windows from street lamos and stuff. That was crazy cool.

With all you've said about Wright's transitions, it's worth mentioning the transition that doesn't happen. After Knives dyes her hair she says, "I know how to get him back", in EXACTLY the sort of way people talk at the end of a scene, and at EXACTLY the moment you're expecting a scene transition, Knives' friend keeps the scene going by asking, "How?".

now that I'm noticing numbers, Scott was blasted through 3 walls when getting whooped by the vegan dude, who is the 3rd ex. also, if memory serves, he got 3 strikes by the vegan police to get his powers revoked.

It wasn't my fault this movie flopped at the box office, I saw it 5 times in theaters! Also, no one ever mentions the subtle ties to Zelda. Ramona has three hair colors: red, blue and green. Respectively power, wisdom and courage. Also they go in line with the plot: she has red/pink hair when we learn Scott has video game powers, blue when he starts learning more about her exes and green when he finally has the courage to stand up for himself against Gideon. Also, Gideon's logo is pretty much the triforce and it's even upside down when Scott is talking with Nega-Scott. Subtle, but considering all of the Zelda sound effects it was definitely intentional.

I really love when Ramona herself fights against Roxy and Gideon. It breaks the stereotype of the love object as a helpless damsel, but also gives her a ton of agency. She doesn't want to deal with the League any more, she just wants to be happy with Scott. Continuing with the metaphors of the movie, it's Ramona pushing back against her own baggage and actively fighting for their relationship. Which makes it all the more poignant that Scott thinks they're done after the fight with Roxy

I'm so sad he didn't do the "You once were a vegan, now you will be gone" And also the "Do you know a girl who looks like this?" "Yeah that's Ramona Flowers" in response to this drawing 13:29

When I was 15 years old, I had been dumped by my first girlfriend ever. It involved a weird mind-trick that she used against me as a way to break up with me but somehow make it my fault. I was the most depressed I had ever been in my entire life (probably still my lowest point even now nearly 10 years later.) That year, I was invited to see Scott Pilgrim on a midnight showing. I thought it was gonna be like Kick-Ass, a fun romp with over-exaggerated action and characters that I might enjoy. After coming out of that movie, I came to the realization that Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World was going to quickly become my all-time favorite movie. The attention to detail, the video game references and music cues, how this film is in love with music as much as I am, it all spoke to me on a deep level. The underlying theme of "not every relationship you begin will be perfect and both parties will have to put work into it to make it your personal definition of perfect" spoke to me on an even deeper level than nearly any other form of media, and even the whole thing with Nega Scott told me "before you can fully give yourself to someone, you must learn everything about yourself and, whether or not you choose to improve upon your faults or not, make peace with your true self." I love this move so much, probably more than Baby Driver which I'll admit to being a movie that speaks to me more as a music lover, that's how much I adore everything that this movie has done. Kudos to Edgar Wright and everyone involved, and a win for you CinemaWins for reminding me just how much I adore this movie.

6:59 his emblem is NOT 7 on their sides or something .. It is stylized G (for Gideon),which appropriately is the 7th letter in the alphabet.

I just looked at the poster art and saw that Scott has four green stripes on each shoe, making eight total, which matches how he's the eighth person to date Ramona!

black sheep was amazing. they wrote a full song only to use 15 seconds, got brie to sing the whole thing on record too. this wasnt just a great dirctor and cast; its one who went well above and beyond.

As a Torontonian, there are no words for how much I love when something that's filmed here is actually set here. So often we're used as American cities and I just love it when the TTC logos aren't covered up, when Casa Loma gets to stay Casa Loma, when my city gets to stay my city.

I cringe when people throw up the word, "masterpiece" so casually and easily. But this film is a masterpiece. Thank you for posting such a wonderful, well crafted video essay.

One of my favourite details is that the hole Todd punched into the moon for Ramona is still there in each shot that there actually is of the moon.

Also on the 3rd evil ex that you missed; most of what Todd plays are triplets, so even then it fits in the term of threes

Dude i just wanna say I ADORE how you can take a film I already love, and make me feel like i'm falling in love with it all over again even harder. Like a lot of people can take a film I don't enjoy and make me see the good, but to take a film I love and make it even better? Hats off toy you man, you're the best.

Seriously, he hasnt even broken 200 mil??? How!?! Some of my favorite movies are by him! He is soooo good!!!

And on a meta level: as someone who really didn't care for Michael Cera, the film harnessed that and used it to fuel his redemptive storyline! "You don't like Michael Cera? That's cool! Neither does the story, until he stops being a useless, callow weenie. Then you root for him for his achievements." Saw it in theaters (didn't want to, was with friends) but F***KING LOVED IT. Great film

My god, I didn't realize how underrated Edgar Wright is. There is few directors who are as stylish or who take as much time/care into their projects.

I swear, Edgar Wright is just built different, his movies always seem so unique and I love them. Cornetto trilogy will always be remembered fondly.

I think the main reson they decided to make scott say "Im in lesbians with you" was so that ramona intentionally didnt understand it and he couldnt really say it until he got past the final ex

You missed that he says "That is evil" in response to the upside-down triforce symbol on the back of Ramona's neck, which refers to the evil alternative to Hyrule in Legend of zelda Link to the past and link between worlds, Lourule, which adds an extra level of pun to his line. Sad that that makes this the closest thing to a Zelda movie that exists right now.

Actually Gideon's logo is an upside down Triforce with his initials GGG (Gideon Gordon Graves) shaped more like 6s because in Scott (and Ramona)'s eyes Gideon is the Devil.

I really wish a similar movie to Scott Pilgrim would come out. Something like a spinoff or sequel. I really feel like I miss it enough to warrant a second movie of its style.

I was reeeaaally hoping you would include the scene where Knives shows up and Scott and Wallace's place and Scott straight up jumps through the window as Wallace explains to knives he just left. It is hilarious and makes me laugh everytime.

Another win: at 6:08, both of the guys he pushes are worth 350, which ads up to 700, for Gideon being the 7th ex

I love how Film theory led me to WiseCrack which led me to the Nerdwrite and CineFix and then finally to You it's like an amazing inclusive circle of people who like film

I went into this film purely on the premise of "oh, the main character is a bass player just like me. I guess it's worth checking out" since I had nothing better to do and it was on Netflix. That might have been the best experience I accidentally got myself into

Wallace is an absolute win for me. His humour is great, he doesn't hide him being gay and they don't make being gay a bad thing! He also made me laugh everytime he was on screen, what an amazing character

Fun fact: in the original script for the movie, Envy was actually Ramona's fourth evil ex instead the other random chick. Very different story that way, thought it was interesting.

coming from a bassist, the bass battle scene was interesting to watch. todd plays bass like a guitarist with his complicated riffs, which reflects his more outgoing personality. Scott plays bass like a bassist, very rhythmic and on beat, which reflects his wallflower personality. brilliant

One of my favorite parts was during the first fight when everyone glares at Ramona and you can hear the little whips of their heads

This being a movie about video games, you kinda missed an opportunity not quoting GLaDOS in your fast-forwarded intro: "If you have any questions, just remember what I said in slow motion. Test on your own recognizance."

Haven't seen anyone else mention this yet, but when Scott and Knives are in the record store, as it leads up to Knives saying, "I think I'm in love," Black Sheep is playing very faintly in the background, and is timed so that Knives saying "love" lines up with the word "love" in the chorus of the song. Probably watched it 8 or more times before I noticed.

this movie is fantastic. Edgar Wright is such a genius when it comes to these types of movies. plus you have Simon Pegg and Nicholas Frost in some of the other movies. He's brilliant

So Scott Pilgrim ends up beating Human Torch/Captain America & Superman/Atom. I'm actually disappointed that Anna Kendrick is not going to Squirrel Girl.

I turned 50. I decided to watch this. It hooked me after my failed attempts trying to say the band name, I heard it screamed. Brilliant from beginning to end.

Every once in a while, I watch the film and find it just as amazing as the first time I saw it in the theatre. For some reason never saw this recap with details about what makes this firm unique until today and appreciate this movie even more.

I can't believe Edgar Wright's biggest hits haven't even grossed $200 million. He's created some of my favorite movies of all time.

Love this film. The attention to details and throwaways is more than many movies put into the main plot. Cast is ridiculously good, action scenes entertaining, killer soundtrack. Just 64-bits of fun.

You're wrong. When I watched this almost ten years ago, I thought it was brilliant. I watched it over and over again until I noticed all the details you mentioned. Ten years later, and it's been a few years since I've seen it, I still love this movie. It's perfect

Scott Pilgrim is by far one of the cult classics that rightfully deserved to be an outright hit. Shame that it wasnt. All the more reason to push it to the unknowing though. It really says something when the film's fandom is still growing all these years later

It really is unfortunate how, despite his talent, Edgar Wright’s filmography hasn’t been the most financially successful. Hopefully after Baby Driver and the resurgence of Scott Pilgrim thanks to the upcoming Netflix show, this will change.

Scott Pilgrim VS The World is my favorite movie, I can't change that, I was so sad you rushed all of a sudden after the part 1 but hey you did the movie justice, still.

3:05 Today I learned that Scott's bass battle riff is based on the battle theme in Final Fantasy - well, FFs 1 through 6 and 9, anyway. You know, the important ones. :P

This is one of the rare movies that you can just keep watching over and over again without it getting old or boring. At least for me

All time favorite movie

I'm actually quite sad this movie didn't do better. It's what introduced me to the comics and after just one read they quickly skyrocketed to my top 5 list of favorite series. Plus I found the game as a result as well, and I still listen to the soundtrack to this day. I'm really glad you talked about this movie, hopefully Scott Pilgrim gets more exposure now. And as always, a fantastic video! I really enjoy this channel and all the fantastic content you put out.

I know that this is over three years later, but I have to say this nonetheless: THANK YOU! I've felt like I'm crazy for the longest time for my borderline-obsessive love for this movie. You pointed out most of the elements I adore about this movie. Edgar Wright is a genius of geniuses and, like many geniuses, is vastly underappreciated.

Scott Pilgrim takes off has me watching this again, and hope hope hoping we get a Cinemawin for the new series.
