As a plus size person, I don’t understand the frustration around cutting down plus size clothes. Most donations end up in landfill, so if anyone can find a use for what’s in the thrift store, I’m all for it. And the reason that thrift stores don’t have cute plus size clothes is mostly the fault of, gasp!, plus size people. We don’t like to shop until after we lose the weight, which rarely happens, so we don’t have a lot to donate. And yes, not a lot of stores have great plus size clothes to buy, but see the first point about not wanting to shop until we lose the weight. If we bought a lot of clothing, more stores would cater to us.

THANK YOU!! I feel like I'm the only person who sees it this way! the stat* I've seen most consistently for the US is >80% of clothing donated to thrift stores still ends up in landfills... I say: SAVE WHATEVER YOU CAN!

WOW!!! Steph, I am INSPIRED!!! That "wrap snap and tie" blouse you made is something I NEED to do with many of my tops that don't fit me quite right. My build is VERY similar to yours, especially my small waist and long torso. I'm OBSESSED with your style, oh my goodness!!! 😍 Something to consider in the future for projects that you "don't have time to film for youtube" is to take a few photos with your phone during various stages, and insert those on screen when you're doing a show and tell of the garment! That, and/or some little 10-30 second snippets of phone footage that can be popped up on screen for these sorts of compilations! Lots of love from Canada! Fawn 😊🩷

LOL as a very fat person who does indeed resent straight sized people flipping plus sized clothes, that dress was SO clearly actually designed for someone your size. The shoulder fit is the big giveaway. Plus, no kidding, the xs tag. I thought you did a stunning job on that. I think that the looser style of the original just kinda swallows up smaller people. Fun seeing all your 2023 makes.

I found you from the Marimekko dress and I really enjoy your energy and watching your process. People are so willing to get mad and thank you for explaining that you didn’t use large sized clothes to make small ones. Having said that I’m a larger person and the clothes found are often not great. I alter or remake clothes that I find and I even take small clothes and make them larger! I understand the issue but there are so many clothes in the world, so we should all be cognizant of the issue and encourage inclusivity while being realistic that using what’s already in the world is better than buying new clothes.

You're totally right. Considering how much clothing waste there is in the world it's great that some of us have the skills to turn old into new things. You must have some great skills!

As I’m a thrifter myself and watch a lot of thrift flips I was suggested your video about the white dress with lace edges that you made from a bed sheet. It looked gorgeous and I hope you can alter to work for you! Anyway, I love your channel and started to subscribe at once! I must say I was very surprised at the reaction about thrifting a large item and making something smaller from it. That would mean you shouldn’t buy large new clothes on sale and changing them to something smaller? As far as I’m concerned I buy what I want and do whatever I want with it. And to get use of second hand things instead of buying new are always a good choice. I watch a lot of videos on using thrifted textiles and it’s very popular to use denim, the larger garments the better as you get a lot of material to work with, so I could hardly believe it when you were so apologetik about using your husband’s old jeans!! Please stop having those feelings and instead do what the heck you want with your stuff! And continue inspire us to create ❤️❤️❤️

I found your channel through the video on the marimekko set, and i love the way you transformed it! When you showed the before it was evident to me that it was oversize in style, but your actual size nonetheless... Oversized garments, if patterned correctly, would not fit a bigger size: the whole point of them is to play with unnatural proportions, and to do it they have to fit your true size somewhere. Sometimes people are so eager to do good, that they don't stop and think if what they're saying, albeit true as a general concept, applies to the actual case they're commenting about... Don't be put down by those comments, your heart was in the right place all along!

That bottle holder is a great idea! I like to have something liquid readily available... when out & about...it's often iced tea w/lots of ice (a Southern U.S. thing I grew up with,) that I put in my Yeti insulated tumbler. BUT w/the tumbler, liquid & ice it's super heavy and too big to be in my purse, so something like what you created would be very handy! I'm enjoying seeing all of your great makes! Thanks for sharing!

That's a great idea - it's a pretty versatile thing to have. I recommend the s clips/carabiners that I changed to rather than the rings I used in the original video ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kg1hHx6YXv8.htmlsi=HfsmVQpCjOh_e_Ks

Millions of clothes get trucked off to a landfill every day. I don’t think you buying even a hundred oversized garments is going to put a dent in that, that commenter is really weird. Internet people!

Just found your channel and subscribed - loving your content. I try to recycle fabric as much as possible from old clothes, vintage sheets or op shop finds - there is so much waste from the fashion industry and it keeps the cost down (particularly if I am self drafting and not sure it is going to work out) - off to watch the marimekko flip next.

be interesting to see an update on what you did with the first white one. Its needs a back or it looks cheap and out of place. Prob a nice feature would abe a pearl effect button /clasp in the front to join up gapping material.

Have you seen this other video of mine? ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-zi_pxdt-k38.html And if a skirt isn't your thing then you could try harvesting the fabric to make all sorts! I've also seen interesting woven things that people have made by cutting denim into long strips and weaving them together.
