Sheath Dress Patterns - Cashmerette Rivermont has cup sizes. You'd need to leave the sleeves off and make facings, to make it sleeveless. There's also the Laneway Dress by Jennifer Lauren Handmade, which comes with a round neck option. It has B,C,D cup sizes.

I definitely think the Reeta for the shirt dress, particularly with that fabric. It's very similar to styles in the 50s/60s when shirt dresses were incredibly popular and that type of design was frequently used. My mum had several she made. This might put you off but I think it would look great.

Not at all! I’ve had the pattern printed for ages and should really get it sewn up!

For the sheath dress, there's also the top of the Harrison Shirtdress by Cashmerette, which has a double princess seam

yeah for the menu version of make 9! If you get a shirt pattern to fit then hacking it up to the shirt dress version should be a breeze!

Yes! The Byrdie even comes with an option for a dress. I’m gonna try the Vernon first and It would be really easy to lengthen and belt it or attach a skirt and do a drawstring waist for a Reeta or Davenport vibe.

I've made the Vernon shirt. If you are busty you cannot go wrong with Cashmerette as their cup sizes go well beyond a d cup. I know other companies are starting to do this also which is great. The Vernon bodice is an easy one, just bust darts, you'll learn to do the burrito method to sew the yoke on the back and you'll learn to do a tower placket on the sleeve. I found with the sleeve that the cuff was a bit too narrow so I had to make some adjustments there. I think it's a good shirt to sink your teeth into starting out with shirting. They do have an older shirt pattern called the Harrison which I have also made and love! This one has a double princess seam which is pretty easy to do but looks daunting. This one is a little more fitted as a result of the princess seams and would be more of your "office wear" type shirt. The Vernon is more relaxed and will meet your needs for both the summer and winter style although it doesn't have a short sleeve option and personally I think it should as not everyone likes rolled up sleeves. Hope this helps xx

I've made the Birdie button up and the dress version and I love both. It fit right out of the box and I made no adjustments, which is unusual for me! So I highly recommend that one. I'm planning to do the pleated version sometime this spring.

I just found your channel and really enjoyed hearing you talk about your sewing plans for the coming year. It's so interesting to learn about someone else's process. I tend to make things out of season because I'm more likely to take my time and enjoy it than if I make something to wear straight away. I'm currently in winter and making a linen shirt for the sunny summer I hope is around the corner!
@brimichellemade
@brimichellemade 6 месяцев назад
Thanks! I think I'd enjoy the process more if I sewed for the upcoming season too. My weight fluctuates a lot though, so sewing too far ahead doesn't usually work for me. I often end up doing more planning and then last minute sewing for the current season. Your linen shirt will be so satisying when summer comes!

I am glad to see again. I loved how you presented your make nine. I have a black of 8 garment types, some with definite papers and fabrics., others are vague. You inspired me last spring to make a mauve linem skirt megan skirt and now and then top. The skirt is my favorite item ever. Thank you Today, I am finishing SA Carlisle jeans in black denim from style maker fabrics. The fit😂😂😂😂 . Thank you for all your inspiration

I just made a rib knit sweater and did exactly what you said... turtle neck band, wrist cuffs and bottom band. And I was super careful NOT to pull anything while sewing. Using the serger made it work really well. My sewing machine seems to stretch the seams out more than the serger.

Hello lovely! Happy New Year! I've made 4 or 6 byrdies and 1 Vernon. I think the fitting with be better on the Vernon but the Byrdie is a simpler make (no back yoke) Sooooo make both 😁 Love this approach to Make 9 feels a bit less oppressive !
@brimichellemade

Nice! Thanks for the insight. I think I’m gonna start with Vernon but I think I’ll end up making both eventually 😉.

Yes to the earthy grungy 90’s vibes! I’m channeling that same energy into 2024. Also, I know you said waist band sweatshirt but I really have enjoyed my LB Pullover from Paper Theory. I didn’t think it would be such a big staple in my wardrobe but it is 🤗

I made a Myosotis dress for Christmas Day from an auberge double gauze. It was beautiful. I made a toile. I backed the bust set off just ¼” I inserted an invisible zip as I don’t know how anyone gets in or out of it! I have just ordered an R Kauffman Flannel to make another dress for the winter.

I know some patterns including the Lyra use a different block for the larger sizes, but they still seem so straight, especially in the shoulders. I guess I shouldn’t knock it without trying it, but I’m quite leery of her her patterns 😳

I wonder if the Cashmerette Upton dress would work for the shift dress. The bodice is made for curvy figures. Maybe mashed with a less flared skirt from another pattern?

Teressa from Lost My Thread did Battle of the Busty Button Ups video. She compared the Pattern Scout, Cashemerette and an Itch To Stitch button up patterns with cup sizes. She describes the sewing experience and the final product in detail. She did a follow up review a year later to see which one she wore the most and why. The winner in the 2nd video was different from the first. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-Adm32mkE14c.html

Have you thought of making your own patterns? Like making basic blocks and modifying from there? I had problems with patterns not fitting me well (I'm shortwaisted, big bust, small waist). Since i started drafting my own patterns I have only small problems ❤ I have winifred aldrich metric pattern cutting

@brimichellemade Definitely try sooner rather than later. You won't regret it. I used 3 patterns in my sewing journey (I started August 2023) and none fit properly. So I started watching closethistorian even is I don't necessarily wear what she does, she starts every sewing video with making the pattern so it really helps to understand it. Since then I started drafting myself and its amazing

Something to think about. As beautiful as the sweater knit is, as well as the pattern idea, the fabric appears to be a great match for your skin tone. You may well disappear into the wall or appear naked lol. Colour block with some of the smaller pieces from your stash?

Better to use as a skirt or pants, away from your face, or add a colourful scarf, to break it up. You might get more wear out of a top and skirt? Absoutely, you know yourself better than others, do you.
@kathleenmayhorne3183
@kathleenmayhorne3183 6 месяцев назад
I found out a long time ago, it is better to try on new styles of clothing in the shops, rather than toil over making them first, only to find, my odd shape doesn't look right in them. I really liked those peasant skirts with three gathered sections, so easy to make, but on me, I looked like a house. So I saved myself the effort. I did make a lime green skirt and top. Looked in the mirror, Found it was definitely not my colour. Never wore it again. What a waste of time. Make sure of your button placement on your shirt, the gaps they can cause in the wrong place can mean safety pins at the back, not a fun function for ease of use. Think of lots of buttons rather than less, and place the first one, right at booby height, then distribute above and below. Make sure to have interfacing in the button band to minimise the stress gaps. A looser shirt will be a better option. Two part collars do sit nicer, stays are usually more for men's shirts. I used to find Burda patterns with their multi sizing easier to adjust, short waisted. Having had breast cancer, (one-boob) makes me even harder to fit now. Will your tunic work over the skirt with the same fabric? Could be lovely? All the best.
