I love book chat! I went to a “quiet reading hour” at a bookshop today and it was so lovely! I’m currently reading Catherine House by Elisabeth Thomas. Malibu Rising is on my to read list!
I would be thrilled for you to do more bookish content! I know how hard the fashion content must be, and how time-intensive the home videos are, so it's cool that you also have the option to do these sit down chatty videos just about books! I haven't read any of these but I'm definitely going to check some of them out!
I love this! I'd love for you to include why you picked up the book in the first place, or how you find books. You definitely mention reasons about most of the books (You love TJReid, you are trying to read more classics after uni, love female friendship) but maybe a little more? That's such an interesting aspect of reading/taste to me! What drew the reader in initially.
Speaking of Mick Riva showing up in both Malibu Rising and The 7 Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, he also shows up in Daisy Jones & The Six. He attends a party Daisy is hosting and I literally screamed when I read his name. He's like the Kirk of Taylor Jenkins Reid novels, there's no escaping him.
Yes to more book chat! You are my go-to for great book recommendations and I get stuck when I've read everything you've recommended before the next video comes out!
I didn't love wuthering heights. Some classics I did really enjoy: Jane Eyre, Emma, Far from the Madding Crowd. If you haven't read them yet, would recommend!! Xx
I LOVE that you're going to do more book content and that this video is on the longer side, thank you! If you love the book-within-a-book format, I HIGHLY recommend Magpie Murders and Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz. They are about a contemporary books editor who gets caught up in a murder mystery and the clues to the murder might just be in the book she was just editing... As a reader you get both books in full (the contemporary one, and the murder mystery she was editing, which is old-fashioned and reads like an Agatha Christie) and they're both SO good. Super clever and gripping storytelling!
Yessss! I recently got back into reading book! This is perfect! Not a huge fan of self help books and that’s what seems so popular right now - but I forgot how much reading improves my mental health🥺🥺🥺 taking a break from a screen and the world 👏
Hi Lucy, came to your channel a few years ago for the mid-size clothing but really enjoying these “different” videos. Also love a good book chat as I’m trying to put time aside to read more, so thank you. X
My never ending to be read list continues to grow! Looking forward to more book content 😊 Also reputation and blood orange is only 99p on kindle at the moment
So pleased to find someone else who didn't enjoy Wuthering Heights 😅 Such A Fun Age has been on my TBR pile for ages and Reputation is definitely going on now! Just finished Beekeeper of Aleppo and I'm about half way through The Midnight Library - would definitely recommend them both!
10000 % up for book tube Lucy! Added everything to the TBR Have you got storygraph? I’m obsessed with it and I think you’ll like the stats part of it as well!
Absolutely loved this! So good to have you’re videos back in my subscription feed and with a book video 🥳 don’t know about anyone else but I LOVE watching reading vlogs they make me feel inspired to pick up a book when I’m in a slump!
Thank you for the recommendations! Just easing myself back into reading for some pre-bedtime stress relief & gravitating more towards the 'lighter' reads - can't deal with the heavier themes right now!
Mick Riva is also mentioned in Daisy Jones - all 3 of those books link to the same universe. TJR is an author that is an auto buy for me now. She’s such an incredible story teller and her ability to make the characters she writes feel like real people is just AMAZING.
I love the book content! I really look forward to it. I used to be an avid reader but I have two toddlers now so I love at least hearing about some 😂 I also know what to buy instead of spending time on something I won’t enjoy when I do have a bit of time
Yes, more book content would be great! Also, although I've never watched Gilmore Girls I still watched the entire video 😂 I'd be more than happy to listen to more 'niche' videos on TV shows!x
Would recommend watching any videos Murphy Napier has made about Wuthering Heights and how it’s completely misclassified as romance and is actually a tragedy about the cycles of abuse, because that totally changed my opinion of the book!
There is a Dutch writer called Anja De Jager. She has written 6 detective novels, The Lotte Meerman series, set in Amsterdam. The first is called A Cold Murder in Amsterdam. If you haven't read her books, you need to. Very, Very readable.
I'd love to see more book content from you - people talking about books is my absolute favourite thing and you're clearly a really thoughtful and enthusiastic reader.
Yes, bring on the book chats! 📚 I loved hearing about all of these, will definitely be adding a few of them to my reading list. 😁 Also- love the Luke’s mug!! ☕️ Did you know the actor who plays him recently started a podcast? I’ve been listening to it lately and it’s wonderful, definitely recommend to all Gilmore fans!
Lmao there was logic to it, I stacked them upside down so I could flip the pile over and they'd be in the right order to talk about... on reflection that makes absolutely no sense hahaha
Love book chat! I'm trying to throw in the occasional classic into my reading list as well. Coming from a German speaking country I have recently loved Effi Briest by Theodore Fontane and anything Thomas Mann. For a more contemporary dip into German literature: A whole life by Robert Seethaler and Where you come from by Sasa Stanisic 😊
Everytime you upload a book video, my TBR pile starts to cry as I add more to it! Always love your recommendations and I need to get back to reading again
I feel exactly the same about Malibu Rising, it wasn’t my favourite book by TJR but I enjoyed it. There’s going to be a 4th book for this universe btw!! 🙌🏻✨
I loved listening to you talk about female friendship and I think I'll give 'Expectation' a read. I have a feeling you'd enjoy Anna Karenina as your next classic, it's probably one of my absolute favourites. The characters are so well written, so complex, and Anna herself is probably my favourite female character of all time.
Thoroughly enjoyed this Lucy, thank you so much. I am an avid reader and have been since I could string two words together. I'm the kid who read by torchlight under the covers because it was past my bedtime...........yes, we are talking a LONG time ago 😁 I love escaping into a book and getting drawn into characters and situations that I wouldn't normally experience. Would be more than happy if you made this into a series and have already taken you up on a couple of your recommendations, thank you 🥰
Woo! Love your book videos. I also read Wuthering Heights recently and also not a fan - highly recommend Jane Eyre by good ol’ Charlotte. Much better love story and amazing feminist vibes you don’t normally get in books from that time period! 📚
OBSESSED with the book content! I would like to recommend John Marrs, his book The One is my all time favourite of his but I have read every single one of his books and they are all amazing and all so different so something for every mood 📚 x
Hi Lucy! If you like the concept of a story within a story, try the Anthony Horowitz murder mysteries; they’re like modern day Agatha Christie novels, where the main character is a book editor editing a murder mystery, which is interwoven with a real life murder mystery. The first one is Magpie Murders and the second is Moonflower Murders xx
I'm SO in for the book chat!. I have to say I'd never been a huge bookworm but I've started to read more since I watched one of your videos. Also many of my last reads have come from your recommendations and have become favourites so, THANK YOU LUCKY! And please keep making these videos.
Lucy you HAVE to read TALL BONES by Anna Bailey, think Twin peaks meets Gone Girl! It’s set in a small town in America which is full of complex and corrupt characters who are all deftly trying to appear like the perfect Christian but behind closed doors they are deeply flawed. It’s incredible, it explores themes of small-town politics, family relationships, racism, homophobia and religion all whilst centred around the story of a missing girl in the town after a teenage party in the woods. One not to be missed I promise you, plus I designed the cover ☺️ I’d love to know what you thought! X p.s. lovely to see you back on RU-vid, you’re one of the best!
For twisty inter-linking plots I reccomend The Seven Deaths of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton. It's about a party at a fancy estate where one character is killed over and over again and another character has to try and solve it (that's all on the blurb so not a spoiler!) I couldn't stop reading it as wanted to find out what was going on! Well up for more book content (or any content) from you! 🎉
I would watch anything you record about books! I originally found you through a book video and stayed for everything else so more book content to me is a bonus!
I tend to find books in charity shops, and my most recent discovery that I *loved* is The Fair Fight by Anna Freeman. The writing is rich and envelopes you in the setting of early 1800s Bristol without being staid and stuffy. The theme of female boxers is absolutely riveting - and based in truth - and the way she switches between three character’s narrative is really clever and absorbing. It’s a few years old and it doesn’t appear she’s written anything else, which is a shame because this is outstanding.
I just finished reading Daisy Jones (I’m so late to the Taylor Jenkins Reid party) and she mentions Mick Riva in that too! Also huge yes to more book content, 10/10
A definite yes to more book content if thats what you want to be filming. I did spend my youth watching people on the Internet, lex was a fave of the og RU-vid. I have so many more books to buy now, you always review ones I have my eye on.
I adore book chats! Would love to see you doing some more book content. It’s just extra cosy loveliness. I also really need to get my hands on Malibu Rising.
Absolutely loved this video! More book content, please 😍 I’ve also read Malibu Rising last month and loved it, it was my first TJR and I’m now officially in love with this woman. I agree that the first part was about Mick and June was more interesting, but still loved it! I read Expectations last year and liked it but not loved it, but I said to myself that I’d probably hit differently if I were to read it in a couple of years. Really liked Such a Fun Age too, it was the first book I picked up this year and definitely would recommend. Some other book that I’ve loved this year are: The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, Writers and Lovers by Lily King and Ariadne by Jennifer Saint if you’re into mythological retellings. Would love to see videos about TBRs, book hauls, everything like that! 🤩
I love a good book chat!!! Feel free to do more of this kind of book video ;-) As a book lover, I'm always glad to discover other people's readings! Thx for the video ❤️
Love book videos! Have you thought about doing reading vlogs? Have you read TJR maybe in another life? That was great! As was dolly Alderton everything I know about love and her first fiction book Ghost
Oooo yes Lucy more book videos ! Loved this, read blood orange loved it, like the sound of the dystopian I'll give that a go. Have such a fun age on my ridiculous high tbr pile, no I have no control when it comes to buying paperbacks either ! Lol Author I found recently I've read 3 of hers now is Kiersten Modglin great fast paced books or who I always recommend John Marrs love his books 📚 ❤
