Nicely done. Your equipment is great, but it’s the creative talent behind the lens that gets the most out of that gear. Keep creating!👏

Great job Josh! Love all the gear. For my audio I use a sennheiser mk400 and it’s amazing. My dream setup would be the canon 5D mk4 which I own, paired with the 600mm f4( do not own lol.) keep up the great work Josh!

DUDE, You are SO generous, thank you so much! I really really appreciate it! Short Eared owls are totally on my wish list! the Sennheiser MK400 is on my list of things mics to look at! Im so glad to hear you like it! The 600mm is a wonderful lens, but I still suggest you look into the 400mm + Teleconverters when you're ready!

Nice setup! I also have the 400mm 2.8, and Ive changed from 600f4 and I agree with what you said, I love the 2.8 and I can photograph earlier and later with that! I have the F-stop backpack also, I love it. BUT I would never use it again on a longer hike, damn my shoulders and back was broken, I would recommend using a backpack with a structure for your back on longer hikes. I dont know if any camera related backpacks has that unfortunately.
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
Thank you so much! Im glad you agree! It's such a versatile lens that is often overlooked! I found that the backpack does much much better if you really clamp it down to your body. I put a LOT of weight on the hips that helps a lot for me. Im also pretty chunky, so all the padding helps too haha.

Hey bud, awesome video! Have you considered a matte box? It does the same job as a lens hood and you could add VND filters to the front of the lens. Some Matte Boxes also allow the VND to be easily adjusted.
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
I have, but the issue is the front element is 168mm, so it would require a very expensive matte box, and to my knowledge, they do not make a vari ND that big, so I would need to use plate ND filters. At that point, it would be easier to just use 3 different drop in filters for the lens. For a Mattebox that fits the end of the lens, and 3 6.6X6.6 plate NDs, I would be looking at close to $3K.

The 400mm f/2.8 is the sharpest and most beautiful of all of Canons lenses. It’s my main lens when I go to Africa!!

@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
Thanks for watching! Honestly, I never even heard of it until right now. I researched it a little bit, and I don't really see a professional function. It doesn't really do anything I really ever need. Maybe the error clearing capability, but I am a CPS member, so I just send it to canon anyways.

Love your taste in gear as a fellow "over the topper" haha. What's the leg size of your tripod and what are the sleeves you have on there? I have some on my RRS tripod and they feel too big for it. Those look like they'd be just right.
@FoxandFir

Haha thank you! The ProMediaGear legs are 42mm, so I ordered the LensCoat Legwrap 512s! They are pretty perfect for mine!

Thanks! And yeah, it gets quite heavy. But id rather carry extra weight for the advantages in the footage.

Dude way to break it down! I know you have done a review of your camper. But I'd like to see a combo review truck camper and living with it. Like mpg space and where you take it. And how it does offroadish. Thanks for the epic content.
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
Thanks so much for watching! I am actually recording a "1 Year Update" on the camper tomorrow! Ill add in the MPG, the off road capability, and some of the places its gone! Do you have anything else you think I should cover?
@jeremiahlarson5419
@jeremiahlarson5419 4 месяца назад
@FoxandFir can you give us a overall height outside? And where does the mpg land in diffrent situations, like mountains,I 80, wind. I always appreciate the good and bad. Like what you need to change. Compared to what is unnecessary. I also might have missed it in a previous video but why a superduty when your scout is under the payload capacity of a half ton? And no winch??? Just so you know, I totally drool over the combo. The insulation and versatility of being able to grab the cooler and water out of the camper for a day run is very appealing. Also we just upgraded to a r 7. Love it absolutely phenomenal focus. But we do mostly photography. I'm thinking of getting a 70 to 200 lens. But he cost of the nice ones is a hard one to swallow.
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
@@jeremiahlarson5419 I can for sure cover a lot of that. I can answer a few right now. It would be very very very close to the limit of a halfton, especially when loaded with gear and water. I for sure would not feel comfortable on a halfton. Even with the 350, I added airbags for support and to stiffen up the ride. If I can go back, I would get a 250 and add airbags, but at the time, we could only find a 350 in what we wanted. We would love to add a winch, but we have adaptive cruise, and can't have both. In a future truck, I will for sure try and have a winch though. The 70-200 is very versatile, and is a really great lens! You can always go with a F4 for now, to save some cost and have a little bit less weight!

Great video, it’s becoming more rare these days to come across fellow Canon wildlife photographers. I’m curious about the 400mm 2.8mkii for handheld video on the R5… how well does the IBIS work with it in video? I know of course it’s a heavy lens and more likely best suited to a tripod, but just wondered how it would be. Thanks
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 3 месяца назад
Thanks so much for watching! Honestly, I don’t think it’s handholdable for video. I am also super nit picky with video, but it’s just too much weight to get really smooth clips.
@gavthane
@gavthane 3 месяца назад
@@FoxandFirthat’s a shame, but kinda what I expected. The RF is a fair bit lighter and the IS in combination is INSANELY rock solid for 400mm… just might take a little longer to afford it with the price tag!
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 3 месяца назад
They do make a III version for EF. It’s the same as the RF in every way except for the mount. Slightly cheaper used than the RF also. That’s what my next one will be.
@gavthane
@gavthane 3 месяца назад
@@FoxandFir yeah that had been on the cards for me too, for the main reason that I think you’ll be going for it… which is the use with the VND adapter. I’ve tried looking up if Canon do a drop in VND for the big primes, but all I can find are CPL’s.

I have a Sachtler FH, but my gear is at the limit of it's capacity so was looking at this FH to replace it since it goes to 26 lbs. Would be interested in your experience using it. Mainly balancing rg, vibration and or shake once liked down.

For sure, it's a Benchmade 202 Leuku, Which I think is now discontinued. It didn't originally come with a kydex sheath, but I found one online. the new BenchMade RagHorn looks really similar, and comes with a sheath.

hows EF to RF working out? I presume it is quite fine but curious if there are any short comings or hiccups.
@FoxandFir
@FoxandFir 4 месяца назад
I see absolutely no difference between using the EF lenses on EF bodies, compared to using the adapter on a RF body. I have no issues at all using them, and we have 3 on several lenses.
