You mean a race where they were just driving around double file for 150 laps (because nobody can make a change to the car or drive a line to get out ahead) then everyone makes YOLO moves because the manipulated championship structure does not reward someone who might be ok finishing 3rd or 4th or in the top 10? so they wreck just about every single race?
‘BUT HERE COMES HARRISON BURTON!!’ will no doubt go down in history along with ‘THROUGH GOES HAMILTON!’ as the best racing commentary calls of all time
Leigh Diffy> Rick Allen And the self proclaimed “best driver in the world” only caused about 3 or 4 wrecks today. When will people learn the 5 is just a loose nut out there
Did not care for the accent and inflection . . . NASCAR, THE RICH AND FAMOUS. LOUD, OVERDRAMATIC, EVEN CHAOTIC. thank you, VIZIO, for the muting feature.
@@EricEstepp I totally disagree, I could hardly understand that british dude, Please bring back Rick Allen!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That"s a real announcers voice!!! Nascar is an American sport and have some foreigner call the shots is just wrong.
@@FishNFoolLures Two points here, one, Leigh's not British, he's Australian, and two, he's much clearer voiced and stumbles over his words far less than Rick Allen. I like Rick but he's just not as good
Harrison Burton to Wood Brothers after being fired recently tonight “And I took that personally” And congratulations Harrison Burton truly a well deserved win
Gotta commend Eric on the video for how well edited it is and how quickly he was able to get it out. Moments like isolating his audio when the golf cart drives past at 6:38, the splicing of interviews and race clips, and the graphics can take a while. Just shows why he's become one of the best covering NASCAR on youtube.
Everyone hating on Burton for being 34th in points but he played the same game with the same odds as everyone else. Nascar made the format, Burton's just playing the game. Good for him and Wood Brothers.
I don’t think anyone is hating on Burton. It’s the system. It’s a joke. A dominant season should be rewarded with a championship, not potentially thwarted by an inferior team if say a guy blows a tire and spins in front of you.
Don't think anyone's really hating on Burton or Wood Brothers. We all dislike the 'Win & You're In' system. The fact that there's a legitimate chance that a driver could finish 2nd EVERY race in the season and not make the playoffs because in 26 races we potentially had 16 different winners and a few of them might have been guys who have been on average finishing 25th, just got super lucky with a bunch of wrecks. The '30th or Higher in Points' rule is a band-aid but if you want the best drivers, best teams competing for the title? The 'Win & You're In' system needs to go.
Amazing call by Diffey, and I’m glad Jeff Burton got to enjoy that moment, I feel he’s been very unbiased on honest in the booth. Many casual fans may not even know his son races.
You're right, Jeff rarely ever commentates on Harrison on screen. Even after the win he said very little, so to see that big physical celebration as Harrison crossed the line was very cool.
The problem is NOT that Harrison is in 34th and won and made the playoffs, it's that there's even a playoff system so that this can happen. Instead of Harrison getting all the attention for his win, we now have to discuss this stupid system that lets almost half the field get in. It's a farce, but almost no one has the backbone to say so! Congrats to the Wood brothers on 100 wins.
@@tobylou8 agree. Craptastic system that rewards 2/3 of a season of sorriness.. and a driver buys a scratch off ticket and is now catapulted ahead of other better teams and peers.
First of, I got a little emotional because even I could sense how much this win meant to both Harrison and especially his father! Second, that commentary “But here come Harrison Burton!!” gave me chills down my spine
I was recording the last two laps, almost tears in my eyes thinking I was about to capture his first win of the season… only for the end of the recording to be of the floor of the grandstands and me cursing the universe out. I wanted to be happy for Burton, but I was too deep in my mourning of KFB’s close win.
Very cool that Burton won, Both for him and Wood Brothers. I just hate that the playoffs take away from it. I miss races standing alone without it be championship breaking.
3 races of the year! Harrison doesn't deserve a spot in the playoffs, but that was so cool to see him win, and Jeff celebrating with him and the Wood Brothers' getting their 100th win. Leigh Diffey had the call of the year. Shades of 1993 when Ned called his son home in the 500 and DW calling his brother home in 2001. Family means everything.
You know, I don't hate it. Harrison winning screws up the playoff grid, but the kid needed a break. Hopefully a win buys him enough cred to land a ride somewhere in the national series.
idk man. he still has to earn the respect. he's a cup winner and that's a lot more than most can say but ahhhh i don't think the boost in season finish is warranted.
@@samharris3508holy crap everyone needs to realize you can’t change anything if Kyle had won everyone would’ve said it was deserved then everyone is all angry he won let the kid be happy
I’m so happy for Harrison burton not only getting his first win. But also getting the woods brothers one of the oldest cup teams in the series getting their 100th win. A huge milestone for that organization. Again congratulations to the both of them.
Just something to consider, depending on how things go in the future, this could easily be the only cup race win in Harrison Burton's career. Congrats to him, huge win. But oh my god we need to have a top 25 requirement to make the playoffs or something! On the plus side, it should be easy for the top of the field to make the round of 12 since there are some easy 1 and done teams in it.
I definitely agree after this season it needs to be top 25 or 30 or something to make the playoffs. Just think we would have Austin Dillon in the playoffs too if NASCAR didn’t revoke his playoff berth.
Flew over from the UK to watch my first nascar race live and wow it did not disappoint, although gutted I never got to say hi and thank you for keeping me up-to-date with all the nascar news for the past 4 years 🤘🏻
The best thing of this race was the both. Leigh Diffey was amazing, i loved how he was already beginning to get loud and hyped one lap before the race even started, and he had good chemistry with the others as well.
I think this is another case for why Playoff qualifications have to be adjusted. Guy who was in the 30s in points and is now a "championship contender". Just feels like a spot wasted. Great race though, 3 wide almost the whole race is crazy
This is the reason why if the points system was still using the pre-playoff format, Burton's win would have little impact on the points for the top 15.
Harrison Burton and the 21 Wood Brothers car just wrote the best feel-good story in NASCAR of 2024 that was great and I'm glad I got to see history made before my very eyes what a race that was incredible I would have never wrote the ending to this one😊
@@Carlovingbozo8 the worst part was hitting the wall while still upside down. Roof hatches don't do crap when cars are upside down too so it gets even more dangerous if they hit one of the Halo bars above a door..
You got to respect Kyle Busch though. He could have completely dumped Harrison Burton but didn't. Hate he didn't win but hopefully this is a sign they can contend the rest of the season.
A big reason I love the 2013 Talladega Spring race is because the feel good finish didn't impact the playoffs/chase or who won the championship. It was just that, a feel good win. I wish the 30th in points rule wasn't a thing, and when they cancelled that after 2022, we all knew a day like this was coming
Win-and-you're-in is easily my least favorite part of the chase. I don't think that anyone in the top 16 should lose their spot to anyone outside the top 16 because of a statistical anomaly.
What if we went back to the top 10 in points make the post-season and remove the stage cautions and no win and your in? It means you have to be consent every week and can't have bad stretches we have a lot of good drivers imagine the chaos of chase Elliot missing the post-season if not just go back to the full season points system
I still think win and Top 25 in points makes you eligible for one of the 16 playoff spots. The sideways flips I believe are directly related to the flat underbody. Each one that's happened in Cup has had a small gap between underside and pavement (bumps for Berry and LaJoie, banking for McDowell) and air under a car at the speeds they are going is always going to get them airborne, more so with a solid surface with no obviously pathways for the air to flow under.
I'm happy for the kid. I agree, the win and your in...sucks. The storyline of it was phenomenal. Congratulations to the Wood Brothers for #100. That's special
Maybe we just get rid of "win and you're in", and only the top 16 (or 12 or 10) in points qualify. You'd still get playoff points from wins, but winning a race is not an automatic ticket. Or maybe we just get rid of the playoff system altogether. 🤷♀
He has been going all the way back to his coverage of the Aussie V8s some 10-15 plus years ago. Diffey and that Channel 7 crew were awesome. Go on, go look up his call of the 07 Sebring 12 Hours finish. Nobody cared that Audi won. Everyone was glued to the GT battle, with Leigh leading the call. Leigh's always had a knack of awesome commentary, go back to his Network Ten days with Greg Rust, neil Oastler, and Bazza, and his rally coverage for the BBC. I mean, pick a sport, Leigh's probably done something with it
Congrats to Harrison Burton on an incredible victory! As badly as I'm sure Kyle wanted to get the win, I appreciate that he didn't spin the 21 for it; he could have easily done so, but he didn't. That's a real class act from a champion of the sport, and the true way of how to accept a loss in a desperation moment. As for the broadcast - as much as I enjoy Rick Allen's voice (and I hope he's able to continue calling races next year), Leigh Diffey is exactly what NASCAR broadcasting needed - HUGE win for NBC here! As for NASCAR... ooh boy, what's your next course of action? Your little shark fin modification proved absolutely useless tonight. If anything, Cup cars going airborne went up from last week by 100% (I know the car wasn't to blame for the McDowell crash, but still) - great job (sarcastic slow clapping). I think the flips in the last 2 weeks proved that grass had nothing to do with the Preece flip last year, and the flat undertray is almost entirely at fault. Pull your heads out of your butts, admit defeat and redesign the undertray!
Agree. I don’t expect Harrison burton and the wood brothers to make a deep playoff run. But nonetheless I’m just looking at this for first win and 100th win perspective.
So happy that Kyle Bush showed a lot of class by not dumping Harrison . Especially after experiencing such an off year. He still has the talent ! Good to see RCR showing more speed that last two weeks ! Nice also see Kyle talk to the media after what had to be a disappointing result !
As Australian viewers! Fantastic to see Harrison & wood brothers winning & also Good call of NBC sports for bring Aussie commentator Leigh Diffy addition to nascar & HE FANTASTIC!!
Dont forget to mention that Berry won a stage and eas leading many laps. He had one of the best cars out there tonight as he was able to dice it up with the leaders.
Honestly, as a fan of the sport sine 1994, nothing about the crashes in the past few weeks is alarming to me. The cars are built to withstand this type of crash. The purpose of restrictor plates, roof flaps, and all the other aero and horsepower changes at superspeedways was to keep the danger on track from extending to the fans. These cars are really only getting enough air to turn over. They're not getting high up in the air and going end-over-end like they used to. As far as the playoff rules go, I've been saying for a few years now that a "win TWICE and you're in" system to lock in would reward consistency quite a bit more and prevent fluke finishes from knocking out more deserving competitors.
It kind of hurts the credibility of the NASCAR playoff system when a driver 34th in points wins a wreck filled plate race. And is now guaranteed 16th place in points even if they DNF the rest of the year. This is only his 2nd top 10 this year.
94% on my groovy gauge. The bar I was at had the race on one of their main screens and it was the only thing being watched by hundreds of Saturday night partiers, most of which were not NASCAR fans. And the place was going CRAZY! We loved it.
We live in a safety first society that places safety above all else and to detriment of sport some times. We have decided as a society that if there is any chance some one could be hurt that must be stopped at all cost. Thare are lots of documentarys about it. Pre ww1 human life just wasnt as valuable and some one dieing wasnt a big deal, death happens. After ww1 and the massive loss of life western society started down a path of making human life more valuable every generation making the world safer and safer. personally don't put that kind of value on human life. But some would say I'm wrong or bad I'd say rest of you are silly and afraid of death to much. I can remember when drivers would be killed in a race, they would clean up and then restart the race. Cause "shit happens"
You can't cheat physics. If NASCAR really wants to stop blow overs they slow the cars down and stop racing super speedways. You either design something to drive 200 mph in one direction and be controllable, or design something that doesn't blow over but offers little to no control going forwards.
Totally agree with you Eric about Harrison, it was a great win for him and Wood Brothers. No harm in saying their not a playoff contender. Awesome reporting, thanks for staying up tonight!
I absolutely love Harrison winning. I absolutely despise the fact statistically, the worst full time team 25 races into the season, is being able to compete for the championship.
I am happy for Harrison and the Wood Brothers, but this win will definitely be overshadowed by the fact that Austin Dillon is now replaced with a driver who is having a worse season statistically than Dillon in the playoffs. Also, can we finally address the underbody and take off the shark fin? I feel like the fin only made things worse as the car was able to catch air that much easier.
A note on Keselowski, he overcame a restart violation to finish top 10. We saw a Daytona race before where the driver of the 6 got a restart violation and the driver of the 21 getting his first career win before (it was 2011). Also, we had 2 fires & 2 flips in the same race. That’s rare
One day will get a car flipping over the catch fence and into the grandstands. Just to advance into the playoffs. You guys would be like "hell ya, that was an amazing race!" Then when austin dillon hits two cars out of the way for the win, "its a disgrace race." lol
How the experts at NASCAR don't realize a flat, airplane wing-like underbody is what is causing these wrecks I don't know what they're thinking. The bottom of these cars look like Hot Wheels and when air gets under them they flip these vehicles like pancakes!
Screw the playoffs, who really cares. That was the best plate racing NASCAR has seen in a long time. Harrison winning just added more dimension to the race.
This format has to change, legit contenders get eliminated by a 30th+ non contender. It's sort of like divisions in other sports, a loser always makes it through because they are in a garbage division and a contender gets eliminated because they are in a top division.
We need to get back that one rule where only top 30 in points can get in the playoffs. Also I hope Josh is ok that was a hard hit. The race itself was pretty good, the finish stinks it up a bit though
Maybe we should make a new rule and change it to like top 25 - 27 or something idk but this is getting ridiculous the win and your in system might need to be changed a little bit
Your onsite sound quality is getting great!! It used to be so bad it was a turn off, it's awesome seeing you care about your brand and final product. Keep up the good work!
Every season NASCAR shows the racing world a type of racing you won't find anywhere else for a couple of races in the season. Daytona, Talladega, and sort of Atlanta as well. NASCAR drivers drive 190+mph, literally inches away from each other, bumper to bumper, side by side, for 400 or 500 miles. No other form of motorsports has a spectacle even close to the type of racing we see at these tracks. I understand how many fans don't like it, but for a couple races a year I freaking love it. It's different and I love watching them. The type of talent it takes to be dominant in these type of races is a much different talent than it takes to win a Formula 1 race or even a standard oval in NASCAR. It doesn't mean it's better or worse just different and I personally love 'plate' racing (I'm aware it isn't call that anymore but c'mon I've been calling it that for nearly 40 years I'm not changing lol). Last night was a very very entertaining race, start to finish, so much to keep up with even if you took out the wrecks. Last night was 100% NASCAR at Daytona and I loved it!
Daytona, and Talladega are the 2 tracks where literally ANYONE can win. If you get enough “big ones” to take out a lot of the top drivers, that leaves the back off the pack drivers to battle for the win.
I just fell to my knees in a Walmart. Everybody was looking at me weird. I showed them the finish, and they all fell to their knees. All the customers and workers couldn’t believe it.
