I am so happy that you mentioned Kyle Busch’s waiver he received in his championship season. Dude missed 11 races, yet still remained eligible. No one seems to remember that. If he is worthy of a waiver after that, Larson surely is! Uggh

I understand how the rules read but Kyle Larson also won a race and with the old rules he's in the top 35 and points so he should automatically be qualified without a waiver

Glad to have Bowyer back in a Chevy. Remember that is where he started. I think he’s won two races at New Hampshire if I remember correctly, 2007 and 2010. Front Row does seem to have finally gotten their extension boost since 2010. Get it? Lol

I think they shouldn't grant him a waiver because he drove 0 miles in the 600. That in itself would send a message to other drivers.

NASCAR gained more fans when the rules for playoffs remained simplified a-la Win and you're in. Granted it still came with the caveat of maintaining a certain level in the points standing to prevent a fluke win from giving a playoff spot away. But this waiver business is ridiculous. Just like fining a driver 75,000 clams for fighting then using said fights footage to promote your sport. Stop the hypocrisy. You were glad to promote the double, NASCAR, now do right by the driver and team (as this doesn't just penalize Larson) and grant the waiver. No exceptions, no excuses or ultimatums. Keep it classy, NASCAR.

Eric, you answered your own question. Why has NASCAR not made a waiver decision?? Because you and many others keep talking about it. In NASCAR's eyes, any publicity is good publicity. Is it hypocritical to promote a fight and then hand out a fine, yes. But it is also hypocritical of the NHL to penalize players for fighting and then make sure it gets publicity. It's not just NASCAR.

Oh where do I start. How about the beginning of the start of the end. The fiasco that is the collision at the coliseum, bad idea. Chicago street race a big WTF is going on with NASCAR. Kevin Harvicks retirement, well that one was inevitable. Stewart Haas throwing in the towel, that one's definitely a nail in the coffin. And now NASCAR hem hawing around about Kyle Larson getting a waiver because of rain screwing up his shot at the double. He has 2 wins! for f's sake, not to mention all the publicity both races got out of him. NASCAR get your poop in a group! Oh and the TV schedule for the season is whacked.

I think going forward any driver attempting the double will have to get a waiver approval in advance before going ahead with the dual races. As for Carl leaving... Personally, I was more shocked with Ward Burton not getting signed after winning the Daytona 500! I understand his leaving was not as hard, because his passion was in the wildlife preservation area. He's doing what he loves to do... I just liked the way he talked! 😁

I am a big fan of nascar I think your right carl Lawson should be able to go for a championship this year .I think nascar will let him go for a championship. Congrats to carl Edward's..I followed him day one he started he was doing autographs at office Depot at Dover Delaware. I remember we was standing in line and this guy came over and said sorry but your not going to be able to see carl Edward's he has to leave .I was so upset I scream at Carl and said Carl this guy won't let us meet up carl stood up and said everyone that is in line i will see..I was so impressed with carl I began following him and he was an awesome driver. He deserves nascar hall of fame..Congrats..hope to see you on TV calling the race you would do an amazing job good carl ..P.S. forgot about I had garage passes one year in Dover Delaware and in a split second he was running up the stairs and my friends went after him I was walking slow I was walking with a cane so my friend's said at the top of the stairs come on he is waiting for you and I got to the top of the stairs and he walked down to me shook my hand and signed my hat and shirt and stood there and talked to me for a good ten minutes he was an awesome guy and an amazing driver .I will always have that memory of him .Thanks

Nascar should be cautious and grant waivers. Otherwise, Larson could always wave goodbye to Nascar and go full time Indy car racing. I'm sure they would love to have him.

Why is Hill suspended for intentionally wrecking someone? NASCAR has set the precedent that even if you have previously been penalized or even suspended, there is no penalty. See Stenhouse vs. Busch incident. I guess if Custer had poked Hill post race, that would have negated a Hill penalty. 😏

Larson should get a waiver based on the circumstances. But NASCAR is going to have to clarify very clearly in the future that the Coke 600 has to be prioritized over the Indy 500. if not, we have the possibility of multiple drivers missing the 600 to try to run the double.

Amazon and TNT/Max could give Carl Edwards an offer to be along side Dale Jr. Depending on if they want an 4 man booth or 3 man booth. Plus it's only for the summer stretch of races so Carl isn't comiting to a larger portion of the Schedule.

The difference is that those other drivers didn't even have the ability to race all of those races and some of them being because of NASCAR themselves. Larson had the option and still chose not to. This better fits the definition of the rule more than any of the other examples we've seen so far. That being said, he couldn't control the weather and without it he would have made both events. It's not like he said "fuck NASCAR" to run World of Outlaws or the Detroit Grand Prix. He was running the ultimate crown jewel race in the Indy 500 and that would have normally allowed him to get back in time for his own race.

Carl's retirement from the Sport for the reasons is no different than Ned Jarrett retiring. They both were successful drivers, but both decided their health and family were more important. I applaud that decision. It is never easy to retire before your time.

Waiver are you serious. Wow Nascar had better wake up and realize that the drivers make the sport money with the fans. It's not nascar brand. If they're thinking that they serious have a problem. Without Rick hendrix , jack roush , yates ,wood brothers, Richard childers , petty and penskie. Not to mention others. They wouldn't have survived. IRL have let the speed and drivers make the racing exciting. As for nascar is becoming less popular just look in the stands. Enough said

They should have made the decision prior to the 500 and 600. If it were to come to that scenario they would choose to give or not give the waiver. I would imagine the the exposure for Nascar a year leading up to that day was felt. It's a massive promotion for their sport to show their driver's can compete anywhere at any time, basically legitimacy to the level they compete and can compete.
@zachhatten261

We all know the reason for the rule to start every race to be eligible. It was so you didn't have a 2009 Keselowski or a 2019 Justin Haley or a 2023 SVG taking up a playoff spot they had no intention of running. The waiver gave the ability for situations like driver replacements (Kenseth 2020 or Gibbs 2022) to step up and compete if they ended up winning. It also allowed guys like Busch 2015 to come back from extended injury at a NASCAR event and still be allowed to compete. It was a stop gap for the new rules, since in the old format, the punishment for missing races was no points gained since there was no guaranteed playoff spot. Promoting the Indy-Charlotte double and then punishing the driver for doing it is absolutely ridiculous. Especially when guys can break rules, get suspended, and still be eligible to race in the playoffs.

I agree Larson should get a waiver, when you give waivers to penalized guys. You have to. That being said, a lot of this has to do with Larson himself. This is twice he has thrown it in the face of NASCAR. They didn’t like when he said winning the Chili Bowl meant more than winning the Daytona 500. Sunday he didn’t show any hesitation or consideration for his role in NASCAR (I get it it’s Indy!). That’’s throwing shade on two of your crown jewel events. So I can see why NASCAR could be sour. Remember he’s a Cali kid not from the south. I can appreciate NASCARs pettiness (although it’s always better to let that sh*t go) I think they’ll give the waiver. They gotta, right ?
