For sure one of the cooler features, especially in the 9:16. I feel like this is going to be a beast to whip out short form content. I'm even thinking of mounting this next to my main cam lens to create both at the same time. Just gotta wear sunglasses so neither lens can tell where I'm looking
RIP GoPro. I started the shift moving from GoPro 11 to the Action 4. I consider getting this one and turning my Action 4 to be my secondary camera (in those scenarios where I use more than one action camera). Having this higher capacity battery kipping the same form factor (unlike the latest GoPro), is a brilliant move by DJI. As someone invested in the Action 4, adding the Action 5 to my gear (or switching to it) is an easy decision.
GoPro isn't at the top anymore. I wouldn't be surprised if the non-pro Insta Ace is better than the GoPro 13. the Ace Pro and even the older Action 4 are both better than the 13. also, try and view other reviews because it's not all that great with other youtubers who are not sponsored like David
@@thatevanguy1480 same sensor with a new 4nm chip that can pull more out of that same sensor. Correct, I did charge DJI to tell you guys all about the new camera, but they don't get any say in what I tell you. Them is the rules!🙌
May I give you a challenge David.. can you make a highlight video of your next trip to feature footage captured on the Pocket 3, Action 5 Pro and DJI Drone in DLOG-M and combine them altogether in this highlight video to better understand how footage matching works? 😁

I thought I'd be switching this year - but objectively: GoPro's image is still better. So frustrating because there are so many features missing from GoPro... ARG!
My wife and I LOVE the OSMO Action 4. And man, this is worth picking up (and playing Rocks, Paper, Scissors to decide who gets to use it on outings! 🤣 ) As always, thank you for another great review!
I like that you mention that pretty much all indoors is really low light. The majority of my filming is indoors and I constantly argue with my brother that I am in low light for most of my filming. This camera looks like it has some nice features.
How does the new Action 5 Pro Super Night mode compare to the Ace Pro Pure Video mode in Low Light? Usually DJI has jitters compared to Insta360. Has that changed or is the Ace Pro still the Low Light champ? Also, what's the Action Pro Min focusing distance?
That's something I'm going to try to address in the follow up videos because that's a touuuuugh question and I think is going to be pretty individual use case based
there are already comparisons out there. and from the looks of it, the answer (to me at least) is a no. there are instances that the 5's AI messes up and makes the overall quality worse than the 4
I would LOVE to go do that! I took the Action 4 on a wreck dive in Maui last year and it had no problem at 60ft. So pretty sure the new one will be okay too👍👍
Hey David. Talk to me about over heating. Where you able to get it to overheat. If used stationary inside a building what’s the realistic run time before it shuts off? Thanks David and keep up the great work.
side note: when showcasing the differences between 8 bit, 10 bit, hlog etc, i recommend considering in the very last part, combining all four and pausing for a full 3-5 seconds so people can see the differences (assuming they have a decent monitor, and youtube compression considered lol)
I only bought the 4 not so long ago. Wish I had waited. The in built internal storage is awesome. I've lost count how many times I have for got my memory card. This camera looks amazing. I was so underwhelmed by the new go pro. When I watched the release video of this. I was truly blown away by the quality of the video. It looks incredible.
Nice review. Would it be possible to use one Mic2 and recored on Action 5 and Pocket 3 at the same time? Not sure how useful it might be though :) but instead of using the internal mic recording, one has another option
They were on time with the release this a.m. and this is a great video showing exactly what we want to know; the differences between the Action 4 and new Action 5. This looks like a big winner camera.
That's tough! The Pocket 3 has a 1" sensor, so it's going to perform incredible even down in low light situations. The Pocket 3 is also running a gimbal head instead of digital image stabilization, so that's a big benefit. I think use case to use case, you would have to decide. When we go out traveling, I'm usually using an action camera because I can film things and then quickly stuff the camera in my bag. But if I'm setting up shots or trying to get really smooth movements, the Pocket 3 comes in clutch!
David, you make me miss living in San Diego with your videos! Nice feature review, on this. Waiting to see what Insta announces next week (I have an AcePro now that I like) so not necessarily looking to upgrade, but you know…I don’t ever ever really need another camera but somehow I keep getting them 😂
This looks like *almost* the ultimate action cam. I have and love the Ace Pro and with its flip-up screen that is a winner for me, BUT the Action 5 Pro has a lot of other cool features now that makes one think whether that flip-up screen is giving the Ace Pro the edge. The Ace Pro 2 will have to up their game even more. One thing is for sure ... the GoPro is out of the picture.
Much better than GP13 launch, ACtion 5 hit the right spot, better low light quality, excellent day video, backward compatibility with A4 battery, GPS, bigger screen, longer battery
Thanks for the great video. I'll wait for the in-depth reviews before buying it. I want to know if it will gets hot when recording on 4K. I'm looking forward for this camera if it turns out to be really great. I use the old cam for everyday use in case there is a shooting, attack or crazy things happening. I like the quick record, bigger battery and built-in memory.

With the mics do we gain the feature to record the DJI Mic to one channel and the action 5 record itself to the other channel? Just like in the pocket 3? Thanks David
@@DavidManningvlog Brilliant thank you, that’s the feature I’ve been crying out for. Would also love to know how quickly the DJI MICs connect when using quick start. They took far too long on the action 4 meaning every clip you had to waste the first 3-5s waiting for it to initialise. Wondering if it’s quicker on this one. Even more so now it starts instantly.
I'd like to know the reliability of quick-shot with a 3.5mm lav plugged in, as I require hardwired lavs, also the sound quality. I know some of these cameras forget to record external audio sometimes on quick-shot. Also curious to know how reliable the wireless remote will be. I plan on sticking 2 of these on a motorcycle, and only have a handlebar mounted remote to start/stop them in sync, and ideally keep them off when I'm not recording, so quick-shot feature will be used exclusively. Thanks.
