So, I have a theory about why the food mutated into living food in the second movie. At the end of the first one, Flint inserts not a kill code, but the video of the cute cat, he didn't destroy the thing, he reprogrammed it, unknowingly. Then we get cute food-animals. Solved!

3:00 One thing I just noticed was that somehow the Spray-On Shoes material is missing from where the food was dispensed when it survived the explosion. And it was shown that the material Flint’s shoes are made of are incapable of being torn through or destroyed. The only possible way it could have came off is that the material melts by intense heat, but if that’s the case than Flint would have been barefoot when he survived the explosion otherwise there would be no way the FLDSMDFR could have created the Bugsna- I mean the foodimals

ACTUALLLY! Mark Watney DID stop after his potato farm exploded. All the potatoes froze and thus were unusable. That's why they had that whole rationing montage and how the stakes were so high for the conclusion.

5:21 At 1st I was also confused, but after watching the movie a handful of times I realised that those were her feet holding the video cam, not her hands. Hence why her arms aren't moving and on her side the whole time

Hi. One year later. I don't think so. 1 this movie is full of that type of stuff. 2. They are painted the same as the hand. 3. The feet of a ape and the hands of a ape are different shapes. (While similar one is elongated)

When I saw this movie was coming out it really got me hyped as a kid, I was so excited to see it! First ten minutes made me regret my life choices and not to trust sequels to kid's movies. I was only 12 too.
