Hey guys! This video is a re-upload because the original version of this episode was no longer viewable. We'll be posting these re-uploads every Saturday as well as every Thursday during our September vacation. There are still NEW sins videos every Tuesday, and new ones every Thursday after our September vacation.
Additional sin: Boov are supposed to change color depending on their emotion, but apparently they turn green every time they lie. Lying is not an emotion.
I have only just realised that since Oh is called "Oh" because that's what everyone says when he's in the room, this means captain Smek's name is "Smek" because everyone facepalms when he's in the room. /j
No instead of pointing out your mistakes he’d make unfunny jokes about his college sex life and then send you to the principal’s office for making inappropriate jokes even though he was the one who said them
He forgot to sin something very important. Where the hell were all the military and space agencies throughout the entire movie? There are millions of satellites in orbit around Earth, and at least on of them would have been able to detect the Boov spaceship. Even if they only took action when the Boov took away the gravity, there would have been at least several dozen pilots who were in their planes doing test flights, and they would have at least tried to shoot the mothership
"There are millions of satellites in orbit around Earth". Yeah, no. About 2000 odd. And even then, the majority of them are not designed for scanning and detection.
@@war32mec still, those ships should be detected at some time, at least when they were almost entering they WOULD be detected. The whole world would turn their guns to them, and on the first "abductions", the guns would be fired, no questions asked. Since they fear every fricking thing, are super "friendly" and dont seem to have true armament, in the end, 2 things could happen: 1- we beat the shit out of those colorful version of the minions and they all die 2 we beat the shit out of those colorful version of the minions and they run away (I like the 1 more)
This sounds odd but many people, myself included, put their science books and cookbooks together. I usually do it so that I can read up on what is actually happening to the food while it's cooking, but there are others who have actual reasons for it.
@@davidmays8974 looks like they completely rejected their last language but at what cost when all they planned to do was abduct humans with no verbal confrontation😂
Here's a sin: Why didn't Tip just call her mother? She clearly had her phone with her and there is no way she lived her life without her mother's contact. Also why did her phone even die? Considering the alien car upgrade there atleast had to be a charger for her phone unless the battery runs out like an Iphone.
This movie holds a special place in my heart as, "the worst animated movie that I can definitively say I watched, as opposed to animated movies I have forgotten, or watching the commercials duped me into thinking I've watched the movie."
Can you imagine if there was a 'send to entire internet' button on emails? I'm not sure whether that would be hilarious, or just annoying as everyone got spammed by trolls and button mashers...
Whatever u guys say, I kinda liked this movie. It’s funny, it has heart, and the cgi is pretty good. And while the story is kinda strange, that’s wot makes it a good and interesting movie. And the characters are kinda relatable.
agreed, it was a favourite as a kid. and i don't remember the name of the song ot if it was a home original or not, but the one that goes "turn your face towards the sun let the shadows fall behind you" was one of my favourite songs as a kid
I'm not ashamed to admit that this was the ONLY movie of my life that made me cry ... I was 8 or 10 years old. Today I am 14. Edit: Tf? How does this have 1,4k likes? Oh...I see the irony... Well, thank you, guys.
Two sins I think you missed. One: Rihana just knew how to drive that flying car and/or that car could be converted to a flying variant, to begin with. Sin two: movie just brushes over the effects of adding an entire population of alien to Earth. Over-boov-alation
Yeah, at the part where captain smek explained it all and so on they werent that many boovs, Like 1000 or so, and when they are in town or at the end fleeing they are sooo many...
Also missed the fact that the human population was relocated to the outback of Australia and all the plants in the human city are that green. i live in Australia and i know thats some bs
More sins: The only clips we get of people saying “oh” when he enters a room are in his adulthood so did oh not have a name until then? How did no one see the giant thing in the sky that was clearly not the moon? Why does Kyle wear goggles?
the thing is, most of it made sense in the book, so it’s not like it’s impossible to make it make sense. the book was better in possibly every way. no matter how much i hate to be the “tHe BoOk WaS bEtTeR” guy.
Here's what I'm wondering tho: Why is it every time a random person makes a comment on a movie or show, someone in the comments continuously mentions "It's JuSt a cARtOOn" or "It's jUSt a mOViE", but when this person does it, it's not a problem?
He forgot to sin something very important. Where the hell were all the military and space agencies throughout the entire movie? There are millions of satellites in orbit around Earth, and at least on of them would have been able to detect the Boov spaceship. Even if they only took action when the Boov took away the gravity, there would have been at least several dozen pilots who were in their planes doing test flights, and they would have at least tried to shoot the mothership
I feel like the reason tip knew about the boov beforehand, hence the drawings, might be because the aliens had told the humans they were going to take over and they knew they were coming and it was inevitable
Actually they did announce that they were boovs taking over their planet and stuff so yeah, but in another comment section I guess everyone is so oblivious to that fact.
@@davidmays8974 but it doesn't make sense to how much control they granted the buggers. They weren't armed in much capacity, and the governments were not likely to give them refuge out of the kindness of their hearts. We could have easily overpowered them with nuclear and conventional weapons. Their ship was made for travel, not combat.
@@anormalhuman266 Easily overpowered? Yeah I'm not sure about that. I wasn't even talking about that I was talking about how the girl knew that they were boovs. They have some pretty advanced technology so there are many ways they could've dodged an all out space/world war. They could've disabled their defenses, delete the entire forces of earth with a single, huge bubble. But it's pointless to really criticize this move because it's a kids movie, most of the criticism here is just bad. They aren't going to put a whole dang WWIII scene in a kids movie for goodness sake.
So i happen to have a life hack app and one of the hacks says that if you don't like how you look in public just sit down in walmart for about two hours and then feel better about yourself
@@davidmays8974 Excuse me, have you ever watched this channel before to suddenly realise the self-referenced CinemaSins motto of "we're not critics, we're assholes"? If you're looking for serious criticism instead of humour I'm afraid you're gonna have to see other channels.
6:19 wait that’s actually suspicious because if oh just wanted to invite boov to his party in his room it would have said “go to sector 179 room bla bla” but he instead includes the directions to earth, it makes me think oh sent the invitation to the whole galaxy on purpose
Additional sin(s): When Oh saves the Boov with the Gorg Superchip, he shouldn’t have the Superchip because he used it to fix the Slushious. Also, if the Gorg were only chasing the Boov because of the fact that they had stolen the Shusher, then why was there a Peace Treaty in the first place? Captain Smek only had a chance to steal the Shusher AT the Peace Treaty, why were they fighting before that?
The Boov clearly have no problem colonizing any planet they see fit, so the Gorg might have been the inter-planetary peacekeepers. The skulls on that one Gorg might be Boov skulls (if they even have those)...
This movie claims the Boov don't understand ownership but they have their own houses and use possesive pronouns and possesive adjectives when they speak.
tbh at some parts the series can be kinda funny. Not too much like the movie's humor, and tip got a major sass reboot which I just love. can't say the same for the movie tho.
HOW?! Did you not sin the fact that canceling the e-vite wouldn't do anything because it's traveling at the speed of light and it would take just as long for the Cancel command to reach it??!
@@davidmays8974 the closest star (other than our own) to Earth is still light years away, and the closest Galaxy is over 25,000 light years away. So this would take hella long time. In other words… you’re more than right.
I just want to say that “The True Meaning of Smekday” the book on which this movie was based was a really funny and interesting political commentary and I’m pretty sure the author must have vomited when he saw this.
3:49 that’s one of the things that confuses me the most in this movie. Her mom got kidnapped around Christmas yet the movie makes it seems sometime around summer? How could you fk up a timeline that bad
@@alltheboysloveleah no he means New York City. You can fit everyone in the world in New York city, everyone is just pushed together. Believe it or not, 7.8 billion humans isnt gonna take up that much of space when squished together
The only two sins of this movie was not making the Gorg suit just the literal look of the Gorg, and not making the theme of the Boovified car the menu music on DVD.
"merry christmas" "wait what" "just open it" "ok, AWW-" "gimme that" *crash* "WHAT ARE YOU DOING TIP" "DISTRACTING THE DRIVER" lol thats in my head forever
The plot of this movie, Aliens conquer Earth, abduct all the humans safely off it to a new location but a few stray humans are left behind to fend for them selves and have to stay hidden is an interesting plot. Too bad it was huddled so immaturely. You do realize a "Kids" movie CAN contain mature subject Matter. Don Bluth, Tim Burton they get it. Also "Good plot bad presentation" is the same criticism I give to "Planet 51" and a hand full of other movies I can't recall the names of right now. Also, most of this was not in the trailer.
@@poweroffriendship2.0 It tried too hard and told too many juvenile jokes, which is why it just isn't funny. Do you ever see toilet jokes in Pixar movies?
Well to be honest, it had to happen for the movie to happen, they were looking for a world similar to one they could inhabit, and if it wasnt earth, there wouldnt be a movie
I Don’t Know Yup. It’s the same type of plot convenience Ender’s Game used (IDK if you know it?), and CinemaSins didn’t sin *that movie* for that (though it may have been less clear that the aliens from that movie were attacking a world similar to their own).
Home=just cause 3 Evil dictator: check Illegal hero with all sorts of weapons: check Amazing gadgets that do almost supernatural things: check Grand theft auto: check It all checks out
not really, most of the sins are pretty rational. the movie is just... bad. it goes beyond it's own logic in a lot of moments, so just saying "it's a movie" won't solve anything. it felt like it was made just to advertise Rihanna's songs (i know that it's based of a book, but still). :\
@Pepper F. exactly, i think the dumbest sin is the one where he talks about how the boovs can be so dumbs yet know so much about humans and architecture etc. And theres a simple explanation, its just like our society, theres the civilization (normal people) then theres scientists who would research humans and plan things in advance, i mean if they had such advanced tech, it isnt suprising they would be able to do that...
@@dafuq7210 i dont think Rihanna needs any advertisement lmao, i feel like everyone in the world knows her. Shes litteraly one of the most iconic singers in the industry, pretty sure she can go without using a movie to advertise her songs. I think it was more of "oh hey now that we have Rihanna as part of the movie lets use her songs because then we wont have to look for any other songs and have to pay them to be in our movie!" They probably just saved lots of their budget using her songs
@Pepper F. yeah, and like i said, if they had such good tech to do that then they could easily get the whole population in Australia in a short amount of time, especially since they seem so much more advanced than us
How did we not detect their ship as it approached our planet. 3ven if you would argue it's to small. Presumably it's using some kind of energy source. Which would give of a signiture which we constantly monitor IR above the background. Radio noise above the background etc. Because we don't want foreign governments surprise attacking us or spying.
@@adog3129 I'm curious how the book explained it? By it I mean how they went undetected. Even if they hide behind something. All the monitoring equipment on earth doesn't share the same perspective. This is why you can see mars in some places while it's not visible in others. This isn't even considering the gps satellites and such that have a much greater FOV because they are in geo orbit.
oh, cool, a book, didn't know about that, might look into it, because books are usually better than the movie, and this was an interesting movie, just a little mistaken
Given what we see in the flashback about how Captain Smek got the Shusher, I'm assuming the Gorg WAS trying initially to clue the Boov in that he wasn't a murderous monster but Smek's cowardice and refusal to admit he'd done anything wrong ruined their chances of peaceful coexistence.
About the only thing that was good about this film was that it drew my attention to the book, which is actually amazing. Those of you who have only seen the film may have a hard time believing this, but there was world building and interesting characters and the whole thing was a metaphor for colonialism. Like, it was clear that the author had put a lot of thought into it, and then it got turned into... this.
Since Cheeseanonioncrisps didn't say the title of the book in the comment, it's called "The True Meaning of Smekday" and not Home. Just in case anyone is interested.
This is a year later but I'm commenting this because I haven't seen any comments about it yet. This video and the movie brings me so much pain. This movie was based off the book "The True Meaning of Smekday" which is one of my favorite books as a kid, and was basically my childhood. After listening to the audiobook as a kid during long drives, I remember watching this movie and being incredibly disappointed. The original book had 50x less plot holes. It was a kid book, but it still was incredibly interesting, and didn't baby the reader. It was also much more funny and creative- the Gorgs did not end up being nice starfish creatures that meant no harm, but also weren't fully one-sided. There's so much this movie cut out: the creepy story of Tip's mom being abducted before anyone really knew what was happening, the long car rides as Tip drove her and Jay-Lo (I refuse to call him "Oh") to Florida, then Arizona. Tip's complicated relationship with her mom, the whole "Happy Mouse Kingdom" mysteries, the supernatural hideouts, the duplicators, the 10 pages of "meow"s. And what's even worse is that almost none of that had to be cut out. Some was more on the dark side, but by cutting out some of the most interesting parts of the book, the movie became boring.
I don't know if you're still active, but I just want to say I was looking for this comment! I am a HUGE fan of the book and have read it multiple times, and I cringe when I compare that masterpiece to this...whatever you'd like to call it. You are truly a person of culture and I salute your comment.
@@johnnyancientseed4357 God that book brings up memories- I listened to the audio book as a kid, which was also amazing. I remember being so disappointed in the movie: they took out so much of the book I found interesting. Like Happy Mouse Kingdom! How her mom got abducted! When J-Lo wore the ghost costume! The duplication machines! God, I have to go reread it, it's been years
When the book The True Meaning of Smekday originally did it, the story was pretty good. Then this movie got rid of all the legitimate quirkiness and replaced it with fart jokes and poorly-played alien weirdness. Personally, I don’t quite hate this movie, but I hate that the book didn’t get the movie it deserved.
Eliana S thank you! I personally love the book, and I think that dreamworks watered it down so much that I barely resembles its source material. And the book gets no credit for its brilliance and the wonderful movie it could've been.
There are remarkably few books that deserve what the movies did to them. If you expect the director to give a fuck about the book fans you'll never enjoy any of them. Which isn't bad, I can't think of any good movies based off novels except a couple by John Grisham, the LOTR movies were semi decent when compared to the novels.
Eliana S That explains the genuinely cool concepts like Oh's brethren herding people into massive colonies because they didn't want to handle them and the big reveal at the end about their "enemies".. hidden amoungst the chatter about dance-induced hypnosis and so much (literal) toilet humor.
@@DanKuman Op is correct your wrong. disease is a broad term that covers different ailments , some of which are caused by bacteria, viruses and other germs. bacteria can be species specific because you cant necessarily get infected by all the bacteria from a dog for example.
@@wor1dconquerer170, i was talking about the boovs, diseases, of course human disease would spread, all in other cases yes you are correct. [ i missed the past two science lessons]
@@DanKuman diseases could spread rapidly, not all would be bacterial in origin though. regardless of species... and the boov probably wouldnt have immunity to any earth germs, so the germs could potentialy adapt to them quickly.
