Epic is an animated movie with Beyonce in it that somehow got lost to time. It's not amazing. It's not terrible. But it didn't deserve to get forgotten. Anyway, we counted the sins.

You know, maybe Mandrake is a villain who wants to destroy the forest, but I like how he really loves his son, his scream when his son died was pretty anguished, and later on when the toad guy insulted his now late son, Mandrake was beyond furious.

It's honestly not a bad movie at all imo. Sure you could definitely find things wrong with it, but all things considered, especially its perceived underperformance at the box office and being mostly forgotten, it's kind of underrated. The animation and design is good, you can tell some of the people involved put their heart in it, and that they at least tried to create a story and world to bring the viewer into which is not always present these days with a lot of animated movies from certain studios. They had a cast of well-knowns so they were banking on their numbers BUT everything else did have effort and many things to enjoy about it. I often hate the forced romances that happen over the course of a few days/hours, but ngl, I was kind of rooting for them in the end and thought their characters had chemistry tbh

I could imagine that having hummingbirds as mounts would be extremely inefficient. They can actually die if they aren’t feeding on nectar on a consistent basis

They would be useful for a number of situations due to their unique flying skills and 'human' enginuity plus perhaps selective breeding could reduce the issues with constant feeding. However they would likely only be used for specialist units rather than all units. Kind of like how heavy horse was ineffieicnt for most cavalry roles but very useful for a handful irl

I always felt like the name of this movie was totally wrong. I get the connection and why it’s called that, but even when my kid and nieces and nephews were in to this movie, I could never remember the name of it. It was always just “the Leafmen Movie” to the kids. Naming it “Epic” was a huge mistake. It’s simple to the point of being difficult to remember, it’s almost impossible to google unless you know the plot or the year it was released off the top of your head, it’s not a word that very young children are very familiar with (nor is it explained in the movie so they never make a connection with the name). I kind of wonder if it would have done better in the years after release if it had a better name.

Some epic Don Bluth movies. An American Tale and An American Tale Feivel Goes West are both fantastic. Along with All Dogs Go To Heaven, The Land Before Time, The Secret of NIHM, Rockadoodle and hell everything to ever come out of that studio.

But are you a female ? A lot of female adults can fit in twin beds (or even some kid beds, sometimes.) It depends on what kind of bed it was, but it doesn't really look like one one of those tiny beds for kids (like you can have car beds, Frozen beds, etc.), it seems like a regular bed, a twin sized one.

This movie is so underrated! I remember watching this in theaters and my family has the dvd as well. The animation quality was amazing for that year.

There's also these movies about small nature people that I'd recommend you do. One called Arthur and the Invisibles, and another that I forget the name of, but vividly remember a few things from. 1) The scene where the characters are talking to their creator, and the female says "technically, that hurt" while kicking him in the foot or something. 2) A scene where they hop back and forth through TVs and see, among other things, a Tarzan parody called Zartan and a commercial for popcorn with a really dumb song. 3) They're back in their own world, but it's being sucked through a vortex or something and the female's father is in danger.

Definitely one of Blue Sky's Studios most visually animated films even it's worth noting that the animation and it's Human characters are vastly different from the other movies released by Blue Sky. Still, RIP Blue Sky Studios. 💙💙💙

Okay, if I was directing this movie, I would've made it more epic by having the queen pass the pod and temporarily pass her powers onto MK, so that MK has the ability to control plant life to fight against the enemies, until the pod blossoms and the next queen is chosen. And I would've created a bigger rivalry between MK and Mandrake (perhaps I'd even have MK use her plant life powers to accidentally kill off Mandrake's son, while's his son is pursuing after her, trying to murder her, to make Mandrake's resentment towards MK even stronger).

4:19 I've never seen the movie, but if we're not given a sense of how much the queen weighs, it's very possible that she could be light enough as to not break the surface tension of the water, rendering it also possible for her to walk on it.
