Everything WRONG with the 2021 Aprilia RS660 | Reliability Issues? 

Dude. I’m on my THIRD engine on my Aprilia RS660. First ones left cylinder detonated and the oil pump exploded. I wasn’t part of the recall. Then on the new engine, at 1400 miles it exploded. I love the bike but reliability is a major issue. I am filing a lemon law suit now and am 100% going to win. 2 blown engines in about 7k miles. That is asinine. Causing me lots of transportation issues and is very frustrating

Tuono 660 2021. Problems so far: replaced rear brake disc and pads due to very loud squealing noise x 4. Engine management light comes on on a regular basis so it has to go back to the dealer each time for investigation. Battery discharges when the mood takes it , which is frequent. The result of this is the purchase of a battery pack to take along for the ride in case of starting problems. Apart from these issues the dealership has been great, the bike is like an Italian princess, every time you throw your leg over it it takes you to heaven and back despite all the tantrums in between.

These are great bikes but hearing stories like these makes me highly apprehensive in looking at Aprillia as a possible future purchase. Those Tuono 660's seem like great bikes.

I just took mine to my dealership two days ago for an oil leak-(seepage). This is my second engine. 2 weeks after I bought it, summer of 2021, I was told it was on the recall list. Since then I have not had any issues until now. It’s such a fun bike. I hope they can fix its problems. You’ve had so many problems, you have a strong lemon law case

My local shop recommended me to go with the zx6 I was looking at over the rs660 they had. They told me it was unreliable but wow, they weren’t kidding. I hope you found yourself something better

Sad to hear. Thanks for sharing. Bought my rs660 used, the pervious owner had already done the first service and one recall for shifting shaft and bearing. That's it. Hope it stays that way. Fingers crossed. Rode last year from Germany to Croatia and back. No problems.

I'm sorry to read all these problems on the 660. I got mine around the same time you did and only had the ECU recall to deal with. Took it in also to get the 800 mile oil change and since then no issues at all. I don't live near my dealership so any issues I encounter will be a problem. Thanks for the video. I hope I don't run into the same problems and hope yours is issues free now.

Ive had all Honda CBR’s from 300-Fire Blade I never had any of those issues with none of them. I was about to buy a RS 660. Thank you much appreciated

Got the 2024 Modell in March and put roughly 3.000 miles on it. No issues at all so far. But sometimes, I have a feeling the bike isn’t as quick on acceleration anymore.

Damn, she is a shop queen. Good thing is you have a dealership that has your back. That would make things so much worse if you had to fight the dealership for these problems every time you went. The problems of brand new design engines and a foreign manufacturer. If you decide to keep it I hope they finally address the issues once and for all and all within your warranty period. Would suck to have so much more happen once the warranty is up. Good luck brotha!

We have this same bike - the only issue we had was some minor seepage that the dealer fixed and nothing more. Sucks that you had these issues, but honestly you got parts way faster than most people I know lol I give credit to Aprilia though for launching a brand new product during a pandemic and having it take off the way it did - the bike now basically owns MotoAmerica Twins Cup lol

I am sorry to hear about the problems you have had with your (bikes including the replacement bike). I bought the 660 2021 Tuono and have put 7,000 miles on it so far. I beat the stuffing out of it seriously! I have had no issues so far, "but" in So cal the summer temperature in my garage reaches 120f and it will leak gas but not much. Like a beer cap full over a few days. I had open the gas cap every day and it does make a vacuum sound when I do this. Other than that it is perfect. The only other problem I have had was once down shifting from 5th to 4th at like 100mph, trying to use engine braking around a corner. The transmission could not find 4th gear. Scary moment, I thought the chain broke, but no it was just an OSM and have not had that problem since.

Planing on getting this bike as my first motorcycle (limited variant for my a2 license). I hope they fixed most of the issues on the newer revisions.I heard Aprilias service is very good, so I am not very concerned

Damn that’s tragic. Your patience is far superior than mine would of been. I got a ‘21 MT07 in June and as of March ‘22 I have 16k miles on it, 0 issues. Thankfully. My VW Passats motor blew shortly after I got my bike so the bike has been my only transportation while I’ve been lazily looking for a new car.

7000km in, falling in love with it more everyday. Nothing but a flat tyre :p

Mine got the cam chain tensioner ticking at 3.5k miles out of nowhere. Besides that nothing luckily.

Damn now you made me nervous. I bought mine about a month ago, the dealership made a check before delivering the bike (i got it used). Tomorrow gotta take a good look at every single part to see if there’s anything. One thing I did first was checking if my bike was part of the recall campaign, luckily it wasn’t.

I bought the big boy v4 due to my Ducati issues, basically I rode my Duc for 303 miles in one year..12 trips to the shop and finally said enough. Lemon law kicked in, they agreed to keep it and refunded some money. So far the Aprilia doin well, but, you made me a bit aware/concerned on my new bike, I know it’s the big brother to the 660 but I’m done the the BS. Hell I have a Harley and an old school cbr9rr that never seen shop time...at all.

Sorry for your luck man. I was effected by the first recall with bad rods so I got a whole no motor and its been fine. 3200miles no issues so far

I have a Black one and bought mine last March and put 2300 miles on it and no problems, I almost wonder if the assembly workers rushed to put it together.

So unlucky man. I was looking at trading in my 2014 vfr800 for this but with so many reliability issues I just can't do it. My VFR has never let me down and I use it daily.

leaky charcoal filter? I suspect fuel tank was overfilled and extra fuel flowed through the overflow pipe/tube into charcoal cannister (its intented job) and/OR bike was on it's side for a while at some point in transit or for whatever reason ....the charcoal cannister's job is to collect fuel that otherwise would spill on ground and into the environment ....removing cannisters is sort of a common thing with some groups of owners just to save weight and remove eye sores or whatever ....I left mine on personally just in case California ever wants to start inspecting motorcycles which I doubt will ever happen or if it does it will be a "from now on" thing starting the year they sign such legislation ....otherwise it would create a HUGE problem for reregistering SO SO many motorcycles!

I had the call for replacing engine and now no problem but it’s frustrating to return on the dealership when you buy a NEW bike. Next problem I sell it and buy a Ducati V2

Fellow Dfw bro here. Just got the limited edition rs660.

Yeah I bought mine 6 months ago and went to bring it home only for the engine to literally blow up and made a hole in the side of the engine. They bought it back from me thankfully and I’ve bought a Ducati monster instead and it has 8,000km on it so far no problems

If you buy anything japanese, only things you need to know is where to stick the key in and where the fuel goes in. Buy anything european and you will be a certified mechanic in no time. Ask me how I know. :D

I love italian bikes but japanese bikes are the same type of fun but with good reliability

I have been really lucky. 3000 miles problem free. KNOCK ON WOOD lol . Mine is a much later build. Mine hasn't had any recalls or tsbs needed. Just ordered some fun parts for her so she better not break.

I just bought a 2023 RS 660 same color. Can I expect the same issues? I didn't buy it brand new, bought it with 2k miles on it. It doesn't seem to have issues so far, but I'm getting my license again. What should I look for?

i hope those problems are fixed up until 2024s models because im going for the same bike.

I'm considering getting this or a CBR600RR as my next bike. What's the seating position like on this bike, can you do 2-3 hours in a day without getting tired or sore?

I know this video is a year old, do you still have this Bike? 5 issues like that in the first year. I would’ve traded it ASAP for a Yamaha or Honda. Never had a single of those issues with those Makes.

Mine had one recall issue but other than that its been solid. I rode other bikes but could shake this one I honestly love the bike.

2021 first year production for this model has more problems than following years.This why old timers never buy first year model.

Just bought a new 2022 rs660, so Will have 24 month warranty, hopefully with no problem.

I'm not riding much and am worried that something might happen when my warranty expires. I only did about 4000 km (2.5k miles) and as of late i noticed it's consuming a lot of oil.

But everything was covered under warranty right? No out of pocket cost to you except uber rides from and to the dealership right?

Dealers who sell Aprilia will tell you they are great bikes but you should be prepared for problems.

I was thinking about buying A R660 2022 or Touno 660. Hopefully by this time no issues.

My 2023 tuono 66O has burnt 2 quarts of oil in its for 600 miles.

First model year of any euro much less Italian motorcycle? Almost begging for issues IMHO! Id guess by 3rd year of the same model things will smooth out and be more encouraging? Then again other than a KTM enduro MC I dont have much recent experience....that one sprang a tank leak at 2500miles otherwise has been reliable despite 2 recalls for stuff that never broke

It’s just passed you gas tank you don’t need it in states that don’t require smog. And this like the 100th 660 I’ve seen on int an in person that has had an oil leak under 10,000 miles

I'm having the gas leakage as well. There's no leakage after riding but happens when the bike has been sitting for a day or two. Gas puddle is like 2 inches in diameter. Sometimes there will be no gas leaking for several days then all of a sudden a small puddle. I'm assuming I should take it in or at least call the dealership based on your experience?

Had an Aprilia RS 125. That 2 stroke engines power band was insane you know the legendary 2 stroke I'm talking about any way it put me off motorbikes.first big trip on it after having it for a month the engine seased up going round a corner at 50 miles an hour just by pure luck I pulled the clutch in and it released the back wheel again. I nearly died. Had it for a year and and 3 engine re builds under warranty. Cost me £4500 sold it for £700 after having it for less than a year. Aprilia just say no

Really looking att this bike, maybe 22 model to see if bugs are gone but European equipment always works flawlessly but tempermental.....smaller companies makes it tough to supply parts and have service available everywhere......Honda, yamaha, etc are massive enterprises vs Ducati, aprilia, triumph etc

I was really close to buying one of these bikes, but after watching your video and several others talking about reliability issues, I think I'll stick with Japanese bikes.

I hope I get a solid machine in August, the specs on this scream perfect little sport bike. If not the V4 has a much more nuanced engine. Anyone have any info on the 22 models? (Changes/Issues) Who wants a bike with a black box? Not me.

Honestly i have checked few 660,rs660, tuono 660 most with like 3000 5000km and they have not too much stuff broken, i have seen one with engine casual check-up at 11000km, sold at 14,000km,only the tyres are fucked but like it to be expected lol Sorry it happened to you man

ANY dealer IMHO should IMMEDIATELY order and stock common parts like all the gaskets ....it is such BS when dealers dont want to stock anything....gaskets? Seriously? No excuse IMHO

I have some advice for you mate, when you pull up to intersections, don't pull up in the middle, one track or the other. In this video, you pulled up in a huge patch of black leaked engine oil drops, not good riding dude.
