"Because you were home" I'm going to be completely honest, even if I was home I wouldn't answer the door unless I ordered pizza. ._.

"Get out of the car?! GET OUT OF THE CAR?! Just drive around the truck dumbass!" - I felt that in my heart lool, like for real what were they thinking?

Scary because it's random; no reason for them doing it to them except for fun. This is the scariest element of the movie in my opinion, it could happen to anyone.

Saddest death in this movie? The Blue Bell Ice cream.

Literally, shoulda just sat there in the corner with the shotgun after they accidentally killed his friend. Would have sat there all night or until they smoked me out lol.

When I was younger, I once heard a knock at the door at 10pm. I could only see the person's shape through the blurred glass we have in the door - a large, dark figure pressed closely to the door. Without opening the door, I asked who it was. He simply said "The Milkman" and left. This film terrified me more than any other horror film especially when I was younger - seeing it on CinemaSins it actually isn't as creepy as I remember (Definitely after seeing all the plot holes), but I still find it one of the most chilling premises of a horror film: "Because you were home". Nothing unworldly. Nothing paranormal. No reason. The fact that your home, the place you are supposed to be safest in, could be targeted for no reason at all, scares me to this day. The prolonged shot in the kitchen is one of the reasons I don't like being downstairs on my own at night... it still niggles at me that someone might be behind me. Overall the film could be much better, but at its core, it strikes a nerve that everyone can relate to in some way or another, which I guess is the overall aim of a horror film. You forget jump scares, but haunting feelings like that last for a long time.

The narrator at the beginning of the movie sounds like the person that does the intro for Law & Order: SVU.

4:45 "she looks like a ghost" "actually, she looks like a girl [in a mask] and nothing like a ghost." Also me, on 90% of "creepy ghost videos".

So, did she survive? Was she taken to the ER? Did that kid punch her after getting jumpscared and she finally died? COME ON MOVIE

This movie was never based on any events. The director once had someone knock on his door when he was a kid and ask for someone who didn't live there. That's it.

The mike scene actually only adds one thing: it lets the killers know he has a gun (they don't) & it makes the main character wary of using the gun again after he killed his friend

You missed the most egregious sin! When the idiot couple has been captured and tied up, Liv Tyler is suddenly back in the dress she wore to the wedding at the beginning of the movie? When did that happen?! WHY did that happen?! Did the Strangers make her change her clothes before they tied her up. WHY??? I remember this specifically b/c I saw this movie in the theatre and I was SO convinced that the film must have skipped and cut out at least 10 minutes that I actually got a refund from the cinema. "You obviously had a technical glitch and now the movie makes no sense!"

I just don't get why you'd base a fictional horror movie on actual events. It's been 3 years after the attack (if the movie's narreading is to be trusted), but still, isn't it a bit disrespectful to say "Oh, that gruesome slaughter and torture of innocent people last year (my guess for how long this movie has been in production is 2 years), let's make a movie about those events!" "Oh, so do you want to make a documentary?" "Fuck no, we're doing a mediocre horror flick to cash off of other people's suffering!" Edit: After researching some more, apparently the "true events" that this movie was based on were that some alleged burglars knocked on the writer's door when they were a child and asked for someone who wasn't there. And the closest thing to "true events" are the Keddie murders from 1981 but no one who produced the movie has confirmed that those had anything to do with the movie. in fact, the only statement about that that I could find was what the writer said. If you base a horror movie on a real homicide, that's one thing, but why even bother with that narreading intro if that is a half-truth at best, but more likely a lie? Calling two sins for an unneccesary "based on real events" lie/half-truth and another one for just not making any sense whatsoever to have that in there.

Hush is similar but I think it did it better then The Strangers haha

Me and my sister love watching bad horror movies, but this one had us rooting for the bad guys, the main characters of this movie are SO bad at defending themselves it starts to get funny.
