Got my beardie a month ago, and yep we are gonna have to eventually upgrade to a larger tank. He's already grown almost 4 inches since we got him. If you're like a lot of people who ignorantly bought one of the smaller enclosures(including me), you can keep it and it'll still make a great out door basking tank for the summers. Another bearded dragon breeder who runs a channel on here recommended letting them bask outside in natural sunlight for 15-20 minutes a day, so I'll be doing that until the out door temperatures dip down under 70.

If it is a glass enclosure be very careful cause once that hits the sun it’s like a oven. However very true nothing can replicate the sun I try and give all my reptiles sun time as well highly recommend

same think happened to my little cousin, we found a bearded dragon and the lady who had her had the worst set up ever!! This bearded dragon is 2 years old in a 30 gallon tank with only a hammock a piece of wood and a wooded box. AND SHE WAS USING A RED LIGHT!! We barely got her today so as of now the only thing I could get was some little things here and there but all her stuff has been ordered after watching this video, I hope her enclosure didn’t do any damage to her she is not very active and kind of just likes to lay around which worries me 😢

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my beardy to a 4x2x2 tank and the dresser I have him sitting on is long enough but it’s not wide enough to hold it well, there’d be about 4in stick out on each side (on the 2ft) side, would that be okay? @ChiefSweetsUniverse
@ChiefSweetsUniverse 9 месяцев назад
Is the entire enclosure closed with small vents on the side of the enclosure? If so that’s a closed top enclosure and you’ll need mounting bracket for inside the enclosure to mount the lights and uvb. If it’s a screen top just a small spot for the lamp that would be really weird but if the lamp doesn’t fit I guess you could cut the wood and buy screen to cover the new hole and use a staple gun to staple the screen to the top of the wood and then just lay the lights on top

You can go to a creek a lake for some rocks. It could be a bad idea by a ax unit but if it isn’t blowing directly in the cage you should be good. You can change up bulbs with the season. Hi. First, I'm very sorry for my extensive comment/question. So I'm getting a dubia 120 gallon enclosure 4x2x2 and I'm wondering if there's a uvb lamp equivalent to the Arcadia 14% T5 HO 10.0 24" 24 Watt that you recommend for this enclosure. I want to mount the lamp on top of the enclosure, which as you've said before, has a mesh that decreases uvb by 30%. Unfortunately, I'm not finding the Arcadia lamp mentioned above, with a hood. I'm not sure what the specs of the hood would need to be if I buy it separately. Since Zoo Med seems to have more easily accessible lighting products anyway, I wondered if there was an equivalent which I could mount on top of the enclosure. Is there anything you'd recommend? Also, would you please guide me in choosing the correct hood for whatever bulb that may be? Thank you
@CorpseBxnny
@CorpseBxnny 11 месяцев назад
For more context, I have a basking rock that sits at 8 inches tall (highest point). If the height of the enclosure itself is 2 feet (24 inches), there would be a distance of about 16 inches between the basking spot and the lamp you might suggest. So the uvb exposure to both the basking spot and to the ground of the enclosure would, of course, decrease due to the mesh top. Since the 30% decrease in UVB is an important factor to consider, would you suggest there were a change made to the basking spot height too?
@CorpseBxnny
@CorpseBxnny 11 месяцев назад
I'm so sorry, but you are very knowledgeable on bearded dragons and so I do have another question if you would please lol. I have a bunch of dubia roaches that actually outgrew my younger tarantulas. At this point I think it'd be safe to say the roaches are very much on the larger side. I do have a juvenile bearded dragon, but I haven't been wanting to feed it those bigger roaches since I'm afraid their tougher exoskeleton may not be easily digestible. I haven't been able to find any information about it online and wondered if maybe you'd have an answer?
@ChiefSweetsUniverse
@ChiefSweetsUniverse 11 месяцев назад
Oh no you can feed the bigger roaches to your dragon. They will chomp it up and you’ll see that dragons have very strong jaws and teeth. With a 14% you wouldn’t need to change basking height if it’s on top of mesh. A Arcadia 14% with good can be found here www.reptilebasics.com/t5-light-fixtures-kits/arcadia-prot5-uvb-kit-24-with-bulb/

I may be a bit slow… but say I got the Dubia roach 4x2x2 enclosure. Then I need the T5 light 24 inch 14%. Which heat light do I need for this specific enclosure? And I saw on some of your enclosures you use 2 heat lights like at the 4:11 timestamp: is this necessary? So would the T5 and the heat light be sufficient in terms of lightning? If so, do you put the T5 and heat lamp on the same side of the tank?I know one side of the tank is supposed to be cool so I’m confused. We also have a night light bulb, which you said wasn’t necessary can we still use it? We have an adult beardie at my job and just looking to give him a better quality of life.
@ChiefSweetsUniverse
@ChiefSweetsUniverse 9 месяцев назад
Not slow at all lighting and heating is one of the most confusing parts of reptile keeping. But yes for the dubia 4x2x2 I do recommend the Arcadia 14% t5 24 inch. Basking lamp I do have some in my amazon store front linked in bio has all bearded dragon supplies. I use two because with how large the tank is I need two to achieve appropriate temperatures. The heat and t5 is really all you need. Now the night bulbs like red and blue ones or the moonlight ones suck for beardies cause they don’t give off enough light.

@@ChiefSweetsUniversethank you soooo much for taking the time to reply!!! So just to clarify, I see online the Arcadia one only has 22 inch available is that still okay? I also noticed a T5 marked as having D3 as well? Not sure what the difference was. And would 2 100 watt reptile basking bulbs that you find at the pet store be okay? Are 100 watt bulbs typical for 4x2x2 tanks? Not sure how long they last though. But will get the temp gun as recommended.

One big thing that is absolutely essential when using a heat bulb is a high range dimming thermostat. Do not rely on a temp gun to check, you need to regulate the temps. It seems to be an American thing where you don’t think you need a stat. Instead of worrying “why is my bulb not getting hot enough, let me give the basking spot more height”…..just get a thermostat. Decent care guide, but you missed the mark when talking about heat. Also, worth a mention that uvb cannot penetrate glass, plus mesh screens will defuse the light output. Research the Ferguson zone with regards to UVB. As for substrate, as tempting as it might be to use sterile flooring like this stupid zen habitat liners, they absolutely benefit from loose substrate and get loads of enrichment as the love to dig. Again……thermostat! If you don’t use one, don’t cry when your reptile either cooks, freezes, or your house burns down.

@darrenmacleod4220 10 месяцев назад
@@ChiefSweetsUniverse also, only reason I mentioned dimming stats is because I didn’t see any probes on the basking spots. A properly set dimming stat and the right wattage bulb will sort the temps out. I live in Scotland and I keep a steady temp of 42c for babies and 39f for adults. The weather here is extremely unpredictable, but habistat high range dimming stats have never let me down. Loved the look of that red background btw. I don’t know if you guys have the vivexotic range over there, but over here, they’re about a quarter of the price of zen habitats (I had a zen tank and sent it back, just felt so low quality)

@@darrenmacleod4220 you don’t have to but I appreciate you a lot. Yeah I think it’s mainly do to the fact idk about others but my content is for new people in the hobby so it’s very hard I notice to just teach new people about right temps, substrate, etc that it slips past. Everyone immediately gets lost in the heat uvb process that I’m too busy talking about right temps and trying to teach them that. Also adding in thermostats might be way too much I’ll just mention it but make a whole video about that by itself as well. Lol. If that makes sense. Cause even though I make these videos I get a thousand questions about heat and uvb haha. However I do want to update my thermostat video as well. @ChiefSweetsUniverse
@ChiefSweetsUniverse 10 месяцев назад
@@darrenmacleod4220 yes I’ve heard that about zen and some others as well I don’t think we have that here never seen it at least. The most popular thermostat here is the herpstat but it’s so expensive and for all my animals I use repti zoos dimming thermostat works fairly well so far. For my open top enclosures I don’t have a thermostat on em mainly due to how hard it is to heat. Since almost every single home in the US has AC. The number one question I see is how can I get my temps up in screen top enclosures. However they do have thermometers I take out for videos cause they are an eye sore for videos you may actually see them in some videos when I forget to take em out. Just gaint white squares haha. They are connected to my phone so if temps do get high I can just shut off the lamps. That has never happens once though in 3 years since having the thermometers. For close tops yes dimming stats and I add pc fans to push hot air out of the cage and suck in new air. Idk if others do that tho
