One thing that blows my mind about all the mechanics on youtube is something my dad taught me when I was like 5, when adding oil from a new bottle start with the spout up so it can vent properly and not glut and spill everywhere

Yep. Another thing so simple yet most people wont do it unless shown.. kind of like the slider on the end of a tape measure that compensates for the difference in length when hooking something vs. pushing it against something, Rich talked about it and hardly anybody in the comments knew that. Out of school I was always with my dad building houses, racecars, fixing tractors, etc. I don't have half the talent he does but I do know a lot of little things like that that help me.

Put a shop vac on the hydraulic fill port before you change the filters. Little to no oil will come out with the filters off.

@@NittoNba44 my tractor takes 35 gallons. I choose to reuse the fluid and wait to change fluid until when a hose breaks. Happens more often than you'd think.

Samuel Robert thats true, however the manufacturer generally has a good idea of what is required (I know Kubota certainly do) filtered oil shouldn’t be dirty.

Samuel Robert changing the filter between oil changes is how they justify the long oil change intervals, it’s very common in heavy vehicle. It’s filtered oil in the system anyway so it’s not dirty oil at all.

I got a 1991 B7100 Kubota HST with a frontend loader and a Bush Hog my dad got it new. Besides linkage wearing out and regular maintenance it has been nothing but reliable and trouble free. It is now coming up of 4500 hours and regular maintenance is a huge part of why its lasted so long.

Grease the front axle pivots every 8 - 12 hrs. Do not miss too many times or the wear will be evident shortly. My coworkers/nightshift would leave it for dayshift. One month later, new pivot bushings, or replace pivots and/or axle housing. If it is greased. Bulletproof. Best wishes

Kubota tech here. That filter on the side with the step will sometimes leak so it’s best to chisel is a little further once you get it on. There’s spots on the filter for a chisel. When taking off the factory one you have to chisel it off because it’s so tight, so if it’s your first filter change grab a hammer and chisel and it’ll come off. Also with L,M,H if it doesn’t want to go into gear from neutral let the clutch out and rock the hydrostat pedal a little and it should slide right in. These older ones with no emissions are great. Should get plenty of life out of it. Also in regards to the pins on the loader grease them every 10 hours, it even says it on the loader lol

I use valve grinding compound on screw heads that want to strip out. Liquid sand paper. Had given me a lot of wins where they said it would need drilled out.

I usually put sand in the wet filter wrench(the socket looking ones) for xtra grip if the filter is "frozen".

You can also use a leather belt, just wrap it around the filter until it catches.

I like the video. I haven’t worked on a tractor in years. The last one that I did work on was the old Case 400 that was on the neighbors farm. I welded up one of the 3 point arms on it. That tractor was 60 years old at that point but started up every time and ran a bush hog every summer. My neighbor taught me so much about wrenching growing up and now here I am 30 years in as a professional wrench, watching a video on working on a tractor choking back the tears thinking of all the memories on the farm.

Saw someone comment to pour the oil with the spout on top which I hadn’t thought of. I’ve always poured with the jug sideways so air coming in doesn’t have to go through the oil, a lot easier to have a consistent pour without a “glug” spilling everywhere. Do this for antifreeze, washer fluid and oil when I just need a top up and don’t want to grab a funnel. Love the new channel!

The "clutch" is for the pto so you don't destroy the gears inside the transmission when engaging and disengaging

Just a suggestion. Jack the front of the tractor to take the weight off of the pivot points when greasing. This insures grease gets between the load points of the pins and bushings. Hope that helps someone avoid a costly repair.

I agree, I've been running my neighbors' MX5100 on their horse farm in Canada for years with virtually no problems. Even winter cold starts are not an issue, just rotate the ignition without the clutch engaged to warm up the glow plug for 30 seconds (a bit more if it's really cold) then push the clutch and away she goes. The only thing I like to do is wash the tractor first, or at least blow it off with compressed air to get rid of any dust and dirt so nothing contaminates the new filters when they are installed. Great video!

Watch the foot shuttle. Underneath the black plate on the hump next to the shuttle is a fork and bushing that operates the transmission foward/reverse pump. The bushing has a little clip on it that pops off on occasion, which will let the bushing walk out of the fork. Every now and then pop the plate off, check the clip and give it some grease on the fork and bushing. If it goes you'll have fill reverse but hardly any forward speed.

We have had for a year and have been very happy with our same platform MX5800 for our 28 acres. The emissions stuff might end up being a PITA but Kubota have made it pretty bulletproof and it hasn't given us any issues to this point. Nice to hear good things about a 200 hour machine.

Kubotas are solid tractors. We've ran several on the family farm. Only issue is that the bigger models are overpowered for what they weigh, and initially they're not cheap to purchase. Aside from that, it's hard to go wrong with one.

I bought a hst 4600 a couple years ago that only had 160 hrs on it . So far I love it !! Parents have a gnarly steep dirt lane. Wanted something 4wd for in the winter

218 hours on my MX5100 and the biggest complaint is the cooling system is inadequate when mowing. The screen and radiator get clogged with dust and grass easily. Keep a close eye on the temp gauge. And yes, Kubota filters and fluid ain’t cheap.

Hook a shop-vac to fill port of hydraulic tank. Then remove your filter. The vacuum will keep most of oil in tank. i used this trick to put drain valves in hydraulic tanks, and block heater into a deer engine.

We have a Kubota M5-111 and we have been really pleased with it, touch wood we haven't had any problems with the DEF and it doesn't seem to use masses other than when doing jobs like baling. When working in really dusty the screens on the radiators do plug up pretty quick which can cause it to run hotter but it is a five second job that I just do every morning and if the conditions are really bad after lunch but our Cat TH62 is worse but the water fed transmission is the pig on that as it is not really big enough and has caused the clutch packs to need to be replaced twice really want to scrap that for a separate oil radiator with electric fan but space is tight. Anyway most annoy thing on the Kubota is the DPF as it always seems to want to regen not when working but either when between fields or when changing settings.

Love mine. I have 3 l3301 and a 5400. They are great machines. Been running them since 2010. Those green JD yanmars were breaking to much and cheap little loaders. Both of the l3301’s have Armstrong grapples with a electric 3rd valve on the loader, works like a charm.

A tip for when your pouring a whole jug of oil. Put a hole on the top size so when you pour it, it comes our smoother

You won't lose much fluid when changing the HST filter, only whats in the filter. The suction filter however runs off the sump. That tractor does have a dry clutch still. New air filters are cheaper than a new engine, replace it.

I enjoyed the video... you give good advice :-) The only thing we do differently at work is every time we use a machine at the end of the day we always wash implements or cutting tables and clean the radiator protection and air filters and motor with a air compressor keeping the alternator and starter motor clean removing the dust then we grease all the grease nipples with a grease pump and use WD-40 on anything else that needs to be lubricated...we always do it daily as we are professionals and use our machines very often.. Personally for use of stuff at home if not used for many hours i would think that air cleaning and greasing could only be done once or twice a week.. I agree that maintenance should always be done

Love these Kubota tractors... I have an L3940 which is pretty much the same set up. One issue to be aware of: the cruise control works as long as there is weight on the seat.... meaning you don’t have to be moving to engage it or your foot does not have to be on the hydrostatic pedal. Not a big deal 99% of time but don’t leave your 5 year old on a running machine while you get off for a second to grab something..... you know how learned this...

when I did work experience at a Kabota shop I put one of these together from new. I'd recommend checking the bolts are tight on the roll bar, loader and 3 point linkage, quite often they are difficult to get on correctly

Grandad has a new Holland tractor (I believe it is a T4-75) it is the biggest pain in the ass to service. One of the two oil drain plugs is behind the hydraulic filter, and to remove the oil filter you either have to remove the whole loader assembly or remove both fuel filters and squeeze your whole arm through a little tiny opening. But besides that it's a good tractor

yes it actually has a real clutch. the hydrostat filte is after the charge pump so you only loose the oil in the galley. the hudaulic filter will dump all but about 3 quarts though. use the loader or jack on the frame to get the weight off the front axle to get the grease in where it needs to go.

They make oil filter wrenches that you connect to a socket and wrap a cloth strap around the filter then turn. It'll come off easy every time.

I have a 2008 CK 25 Kioti and love it, the only issue was head gasket failure due to bad cooling system coolant hours were low but coolant was muddy

These are great tractors for the orchards. Everybody that has an orchard around here has one or more. I picked mine up with almost 100 hours on it for $11,000. It was orange paint at a green and yellow dealer and they wanted it off the lot. Very reliable and good power for the mower and sprayer. My two cents are to use only Shell Rotella T and change trans oil yearly. Don't know if the dog appreciates all the air filter dust, but I didn't see it so maybe it left.

Good tractor, I have used a similar tractor for years at work, but after using the Kubota, I now own a JD5075 because it is easier to maintain and more reliable for me. I use it for farming (Hay, etc) and snowblowing all winter long and stored outside. (Up here in Cochrane area, my JD needs to be plugged in anything lower than -25C and that is most winter days). But other than the cheap shift lever boots (cracking and allowing water in, but easy fix because jd has drain plugs on them) on the JD, I have had no issues. The Kubota I used work had lots of issues in the cold. Even when plugged in. I prefer operating the Kubotas, but the JD is always more reliable to start and run. (Up here anyways.)

My dad bought an 06 Kubota mx5000 brand new. Been an extremely good tractor. It's gear driven and will pull anything. The only big thing is when the it had like 60 something hours a friend buryed it in a swamp and the clutch stuck so it had to have a brand new clutch put in it.

Dude, you know why Kubota says to drain all the oil to change those filters though it isn’t due for a fluid change for another 200 hours. A significant portion of the owners will take it to a dealer for these early services and then they can charge more for the service. You’re a mechanic, you know better than most how the dealer maintenance racket goes. On cars and trucks, dealers don’t make shit on selling the vehicle, they make money on the services.

Cool video on the ins and outs of changing oils on a small tractor. It's really curious/ridiculous why engineers can't make a tractor that one can change oil without having to spill it everywhere. I have an LS tractor. XU6158 C to be exact. Over 100 hrs and no problems. Its New Holland blue. LS makes small New Holland tractors, or used to anyhow. Great tractors that come with 2 aux hydraulics standard for a LOT LESS money than a Kabota. FYI.

I believe that there’s a differential lock pedal/lever on this tractor. I used a Kubota tractor for about a month at a guy’s farm and I was very impressed. Think it was 65 horsepower. Nice, roomy operators station. Owner was Rich’s height but probably add a hundred or so pounds. So plenty of room for me. I’m only like 6’1” and 200 lbs.

I learned s imple trick to change an item,, (Blockheater, hose, fitting) that you'll lose fluid from a system,,, Plug the vent,, and put a vacuum on it with a shopvac. that might work for changing that hysat filter too

the oil spluges less if you pour with the bottle upside down , it sounds crazy but i find it pours faster to if you rotate the bottle 180 from how you were poring it so nozzle ontop of liquid

You need a 18V Milwaukee grease gun. And turn the oil bottle 90 degrees over on it's wide side when pouring. This lets the air in so it won't glug and will pour faster.

My 4700 (800 hours or so) just had to have new injectors and some work on the governor. It was smoking really bad and predetonating any time you brought the RPMs above idle. The dealer worked on he governor, replaced the injectors and also pulled the head off to check the height of the pistons to make sure no rods were damaged. It runs fine again, but I was a little surprised that this happened with so little hours.

Love my 5100 wish I had got hydrostat . Don't know how many engines i overhauled from people blowing out air filters and blowing holes right through them not on tactors but 18 wheelers. Not saying it's wrong just saying you got to know what your doing.

One of the best investments I have made. Was using air powered drum set up. Didn't think it would have power enough for stuck fittings and such but it has a low range. Never have trouble bleeding it when changing a tube. All around first class tool.

we have a goldoni orchard tractor it ways 2500kg and it's about the same size as that Kubota and it has a 2.9L 75hp JD engine and can lift 2000kg on the 3 point hitch and has a top speed of 40 km/h

The crud in the screen may contribute to keeping the oil cooler working, Some grease on the skid steer paddles makes changing implements a bit easier

Oil plug washers are seals. You should always change the washers, never reuse them. They are made of copper or brass which work hardens the first time you tighten the bolt. In a pinch you can refurbish the washer and anneal it back to it's soft state. However the washers are so cheap there are really no reasons to reuse the old ones. About two deciliters of oil is the price of a new washer. I've seen substantial leaks from reused washers where people have put in gallons upon gallons of oil, because they reused the plug seal.

Patrik Einarsson not all are copper. Many are just mild steel or zinc and can be reused. Copper is used more frequently on high pressure fittings like hydraulic brakes.

We have one of these that cleans up around the hot plant....it runs everyday and I'm pretty sure its NEVER been serviced in 10 years....terrible....as for the bucket tilting slow double check the Q.C fittings on the loader arm...we had one that looked seated but was internally damaged so it restricted oil flow...that was a 7 hour road call bill from the dealer 🙄....dude must have had 17 pressure gauges hooked up to the machine...it looked impressive but I dont think he had a clue as to what he was looking at or for

I am all for a compact tractor as long as it can lift a bale with the 3pt and preferably the loader also except I hate how narrow they make them. and it also has to be high enough to take hay!
