man I hate seeing people hate on this sport for it being a little hypocritical about "saving the planet" and all that. I watch bc I like that theres close competition between the teams. sure, it doesnt have as many variables as formula 1 does, and sure, they don't go at blistering speeds or have the absolute cream of the crop for circuits, but damn if it isnt engaging to watch. ds techeetah is ahead of the pack, but not by mercedes in f1 levels, so i really hope to see the other teams, especially nio, push to catch up.

Well the thing is f1 is not what it is since what 2013 since 2014 f1 is boring predictable and simply as much entertainment as a boneyard reason why many more people pay extra for F2 and F3 or simply watch Formula to get that nostalgia what f1 was before the V6 hybrid even myself that never watched indy 500 because its for me 2am when it starts, I watched it the past 3 years because of the nostalgia what close racing the entertainment its simply fun to sit there for 500 laps with cars being in less then 1 second gaps

The only reason I don’t have an EV is that in my price bracket is a 290ml range vehicle. But, in winter, that’s halved and wouldn’t last me a working day. I look forward to the technology, but it’s just not there yet & swapping my Mercedes for a Nissan is not something I’m looking forward to.

I feel ya, it’s a growing tech that will get there just needs a little more time. Combustion cars didn’t achieve the range, power etc overnight. It’ll get there, but in the time being it’s about what side of history you want to be on. Contributing to something we know is bad or doing what we can to be part of the solution.

@Hot Rod and how do straight matter? F3 is probably faster on straights and a lot faster in the corners. BTW without that 250 kW limit Formula E would run out of juice even faster than it does so...

That’s not how efficiency ratings work. It’s done over equal parameters. Amount of energy needed to move the car 1km. Regardless of fuel type. How much is used vs how much is wasted.

FIA should allow electric engines in other categories. Imagine if combustion engine was an exclusivity of one category? That would be absurd, wouldn't it? As electric engines become "normal", it will eventually be used across every motorsports category. It's also better for the development of electric car technology.

There is the official FE pack for rFactor 2. It includes 4 official tracks and both the gen1 and gen2 cars. It's not exactly a game, more a sim, but for about 60 ish euro you can actually race a gen2 car on official circuits.

Ye right, people seem to ignore the fact that making those batteries makes more emissions than a normal car makes in years the emission in todays cars are almost 0 seriously, people need to stop blaming cars (cars from last 10 years, of course old cars are bad, 10% of cars make 90% of the emissions)

This is such an out of date idea. It’s been proved that in 95% of the world an electric car is more efficient and better for the environment, creating less emissions than combustion powered cars. This is over the entire lifecycle including production.

@@ChinoKawaii1021 Always the response, but never the right one. Firstly that depends hugely on where you live. But regardless, even with the current global electricity mix considered, studies by three independent universities concluded that electric cars produce and emit less emissions than their combustion alternatives over their lifecycle, including production. Only in countries that have a coal heavy energy mix (a number that decreases every year) is this different. 5% of the world. Unfortunately it's this kind of myth that makes it harder for other cleaner energy types to develop quickly and for people to make the transition.

It's about the natural resources needed to power the cars. Efficiency is everything. Yes the battery range is less than a combustion engine but of the energy and “fuel” used to make it move electric requires a lot less over the same distance. It’s like eating a carrot and only getting 50% of the nutrients so needing to eat twice as much to match the nutrients (combustion) that could be provided by eating one (electric). Hope that helps?

You high or something? Formula 1 use like 10+ set of tyre per race compared to Formula E who only use 2 set. That alone is a big difference. I'm an F1 fan, but I can't deny that FE is doing better in trying to reduce the resources usage.

@@trueinnovator7207 Yes, but F1 is the best performance sport, while these road tyres have nothing to do with top performance. F1 goes around longer tracks and there are lots of things that you take to this. FE weekend format is almost all FP1 from last year, so 1,5H of track time. Personally I don't compare F1 to FE, but I want FE to be higher performance, although now we have to wait until the crisis ends and then manufactures can push for the best possible performance.

Well when you’re carbon neutral (which they are), you negate all the negative effects of using all those “trucks and airplanes”. Obviously it’s better not to emit at all, but offsetting emissions so that you’re carbon neutral is so much better than other motorsports that currently don’t (like Formula 1)

@@trueinnovator7207 but all the F1 tyres get recycled by Pirelli after every race. And the rare minerals in the Formula E batteries, and how hard they are to recycle and how they don't last very long before you need to throw them away, actually make them WORSE for the environment than F1 cars.

I don't think this is necessarily a bad thing. Big teams with practically 'unlimited' budgets don't make for competitive races. Been re-watching this most recent season of F1 after finishing watching the last season of FE and have been finding the racing a bit more boring. Have seen cycles of unstoppability in F1 throughout it's history where a team gains an edge and then effortlessly maintains it because of the positive feedback loop of funding. Also, given that FE is being used to advance the commercial market, making teams work on a budget means the transfer across of tech will take less time to be relevant in the commercial market.

Well better then having Audi or Porsche investing 150 mil and are winning for 7 years in a row the championship or why do you think merc is champions for 7 years because they invested a sh.t ton of money to get a huge edge in the V6 hybrid Era that you simply can't catch but now they invested so much that they have financial difficulties sold 66.6% of the f1 team to sponsors and they main drivers is that arrogant and wants even more money that Mercedes can't pay and if they do thousands of people that works in Germany getting fired and most likely factories are getting close reason why ferrari is since day 1 in f1 because they invest but not over investing to a point where the factory workers gets fired and that's why cost gaps are the best thing for motorsport so the teams are coming closer together and the big teams can't have a edge for multiple years

That’s not part of the efficiency rating. It’s done on the same parameters. Same way that regen braking in FE (can recoup a lot more than the tiny battery for MGUH) isn’t included in the FE battery efficiency scoring.
