I haven’t lived in Indiana since 2003, but I remember Gov Evan Bayh, and later Gov Frank O’Bannon talking about and securing funding for this project. So, the physical project may have begun when Daniels was Governor, but the idea was conceived many, many years and administrations before him.
@@shiningshadow4926 I was actually not in favor of the 69 expantion, but interstate highways are for the benefit of everyone. Public buses are for the benefit of those with no cars, so after I pay for my car and the gas and the insurance and the maintenence some more of my hard earned tax dollars then get siphoned off so that people who don't want to work as hard or manage thier money as well as I do can still get around town, and while they're at it whine because the they have to walk a whole block to get to the bus stop or because the bus only comes once an hour. There must be too many of those people in Indianapolis though because most of the time the Red Line is empty.
1:14 nah Mitch.. we haven’t. 1:45 public transit is better for the environment, the public, and emergency services; evidenced by the accident that injured 4 firefighters.
I traveled I-69 south one night instead of I-65 on one of my many trips to the gulf. There was not any traffic on it. When you get to the river any time saved is lost navigating the Evansville area. In contrast, when I travel to the Lake Michigan area via I-65, the semi trucks and the poor two lane road conditions make the trip a hassle and an unreliable situation. So why wasn't the money spent on adding lanes on I-65 north instead of the road to nowhere?! Mitch Daniel's thought it was a good idea..... it is your right to drive nowhere.
Congress authorized I-69 and with no appropriations for the highway. It's been up to the states to build the road. The KY-IN link is missing a connection and otherwise KY has finished its part. TN is about ~70% complete. MS, AR, and LA haven't built any of I-69 except a small portion south of Memphis. TX has built a good bit in Laredo and in and around Houston. They're working on East TX as well. Without an appropriation, I wouldn't bet on I-69 ever being completed in its entirety. MS, AR, and LA have other priorities.
In contrast to all the comments thus far, I for one enjoy having the option to drive my personal vehicle, independent of government control, down through southwestern Indiana at a much more efficient rate. I also enjoy being able to go nonstop between Indianapolis and Evansville without having to drive to the edge of the Kentucky border to pull that off.
"independent of government control" lol Yeah, tell that one to the highway patrol when you're pulled over or when the snow falls and the government plows haven't been out to clear the snow. Good grief
