We spend a few days exploring the area between Banff & Lake Louise and stay at this large campground with a perfect location for our adventures. The Johnston Canyon Campground is basically across the road (Hwy 1A) from the Johnston Canyon which is the closest trail to explore but also has dozen of other places to explore in the surrounding area. It has 132 sites spanned across three (3) loops and cold water sources at every shelter, hot & cold water at every washroom, two shower locations, six shelters with stove & power, fire wood, camper sewers & handicap accessible washrooms.
This campground is a good option for a more rustic and authentic camping experience. Sites are available for tents and small RVs (up to 27 feet). Its central location, along the Bow Valley Parkway (Hwy 1A) only 25 km from the town of Banff, provides access to a number of unique attractions, including Johnston Canyon and the Ink Pots. Roam Public Transit is available to the town of Banff during summer.
- There are designated loops with food lockers for walk-in campers.
- Maximum 1 RV per site (up to 8 metres/27' in length). A maximum of 2 vehicles, 2 tents and 6 people are permitted on each site.
- All showers and washrooms have hot and cold running water.

Thank you! Enjoy your stay, it’s a great location in Banff. I’ve filmed 7 campsites in Jasper & 5 in Banff so far this spring. So there’s a lot more coming.

Thank you! We’re spending most of 2023 focusing on campgrounds from Jasper to Banff. So they’re will be a lot more… both Two Jack Campgrounds are being released next weekend.

First time i camped in Banff, i wondered about those shelters at the campgrounds…. Then it started to rain later in the afternoon. (And rained each day for a week) so thank goodness for those shelters! Also, look at the satellite images on-line and note the location of the Canadian Pacific Railroad mainline to some of the campsites and choose accordingly.

Thanks for the video, I'm trying to decide wether I should camp there, at lake Louise campground, or Mountain village.

Those are all great options, I think it depends on what type of camping equipment you use & which is closest to the areas you want to explore / hike / ski etc…

I am going there later in June. When I messaged the banff info centre they said there was no power outlets with power. Maybe they don't know about the day use area. It's good I came across this video so if I need to charge my phone or plug something in I can do that.

Sometimes you will find power inside or outside the washrooms / showers. I filmed the Wabasso campground last week & found 4x USB outlets in the day use areas.

Hello, Very helpful video! I'll be travelling from the UK next month to the campground, is there parking available on site? I did see some vehicles on site in the video but did want to confirm that I won't have any parking issues with my reservation. Thanks for the really useful video!

In the last minute of the video I show an example of one campsite, I parked a trailer and a vehicle & show the rules of how many vehicles you can park on each site. Parking is only an issue at the national parks when #1 users show up RVs, campers & more than 1 other vehicle (they didn’t want to carpool) or #2 users have friends & family visit them at their site. (Your visitors need to park basically at the gate)

do you have a review of the best campgrounds in the area ?
@EricTremblayAdventures

Each campground is different depending on what you’re looking for. Camping with a big RV or backpacking? Each campground has many pros & cons, you really have to decide what you want to prioritize. I tend to camp as far away from the townsites as I can, tends to be less busy.

@@EricTremblayAdventures ok then I'll just ask you on here..pick up Truck+ trailer with power.. And a nice view what are the best ones lol?

@@captaindiabetes4244 with power, you’re limiting yourself to Whistlers & Tunnel mountain. I would buy some batteries / generator & go check out Silverhorn Campground.
