We spend a few days exploring the area between Banff & Lake Louise and stay at this large campground with a perfect location for our adventures. The Johnston Canyon Campground is basically across the road (Hwy 1A) from the Johnston Canyon which is the closest trail to explore but also has dozen of other places to explore in the surrounding area. It has 132 sites spanned across three (3) loops and cold water sources at every shelter, hot & cold water at every washroom, two shower locations, six shelters with stove & power, fire wood, camper sewers & handicap accessible washrooms.
This campground is a good option for a more rustic and authentic camping experience. Sites are available for tents and small RVs (up to 27 feet). Its central location, along the Bow Valley Parkway (Hwy 1A) only 25 km from the town of Banff, provides access to a number of unique attractions, including Johnston Canyon and the Ink Pots. Roam Public Transit is available to the town of Banff during summer.
- There are designated loops with food lockers for walk-in campers.
- Maximum 1 RV per site (up to 8 metres/27' in length). A maximum of 2 vehicles, 2 tents and 6 people are permitted on each site.
- All showers and washrooms have hot and cold running water.
