Apollo Beach Florida Manatee viewing center at the Tampa Bay Electric TECO Manatee Viewing Center is an amazing easy access place to view hundreds of Florida Manatees while they are overwintering in the warm effluent of the power plant. This is a subspecies of the West Indian Manatee that is native to Florida and its scientific name is Trichechus manatus latirostris. In this video I share all the details you need to know about Manatees including why they need to over winter in warm springs or factory effluent, where they live, what they eat, how old do they get, how big are they and more fascinating Manatee facts.

Thanks for the video, brought back memories of kayaking with these gentle giants. One cow took a liking to me and rolled over for a belly rub. Soon she rolled to stick her flipper directly in my hand and we “held hands” for what seemed like forever. Unforgettable.

This was so great to see. When I was a kid, *every* manatee had scars from being hit by propellers. It's so good to see that it has improved a bit in my lifetime.

Very unusual animal and venerable to us humans. It's up to us to help them survive. Thank you Mr. Taylor.

I'm so glad I accidentally found your channel! This was such an interesting video. I have always been fascinated by manatees, and have visited the manatees at Crystal River. I learned things during this video that I never knew. It was a pleasure. ✌️, Your newest subscriber

I saw some manatees at the Columbus Zoo, in Ohio (I think), and I wanted nothing more than to jump in and swim with them. One kept coming up and looking at us, and I fell in love.

551 to 303... we used to put the hose in the water over the seawall in my backyard growing up and the manatees would drink the water. Pretty cool. North palm beach represent

You should talk him into going in the winter!!! When it is sunny and 70 during the day! The wildlife is incredible and the diversity and differences in plants between the north and the barrier islands is astounding! Lol! We will have to work on it!

I mean, we know elephants are really smart animals, and a lot of the smarter animals also are water animals, like octupus and dolphins. I don't sound very scientific here, but surely thi makes people wonder about the cpmplexity of these ancient, gentle munchers. Also, theyhavesomeof the same appeal as elephants. You've just never found a big fat thing so appealing. Go tubby water buddies!
