Okay Lexi, I was playing pro back in the late 60's, and today's game is so far beyond me that I feel I would have to completely start over again. The stamina it takes to grind is crazy. I played my way through UNR, but seriously feel I couldn't even compete today. 7 card Texas was unheard of. We played 5 card draw.
To me cash games are the bread and butter. Tournaments have so much variance to them. I will usually see a Tournament series and set goals in the cash game that will cover all the events I want to play and travel expenses. If I do reach my goals in the cash game then I will cut back on my entries in the tournament series.
I don’t work. Play poker majority online. I’d say 80% online 20% live. I don’t consider myself a pro. But I make decent money with what I’m doing. What would I be considered ?
I was a pro for few years we I used to hang with Jason young Josh Brikis Matt stout Ryan Eriquezzo Adam Lippert Among many others. The stress beat me up n swings so I stopped I started family n changed whole mindset. I play now as strong rec here n there but I can play not worry about outcome n just have fun . Has really changed my game as well love the vlog n content keep up great work
if you need an app to cal;culate what your poker bankroll should be, you should consider getting your high school degree. playing CASH games with people that you are better than and can CRUSH is the key to winning enough to survive.
Awesome video! Most of the poker ‘training’ people I have seen are what I call ‘Fish Farmers’ . You are nothing like this. Putting out the good, the bad and especially the ugly is refreshing to say the least! Great channel everybody❤️
im one of those that dont wanna go pro but do study so im not the fish at table. i like to play and have fun but at the same time be decent and make the best moves while playing.
Love your channel, wisdom, sense of humor, and spirit! I am coming to play the Colossus and the Mini Main Event and hope to bump into you and Bob and say hello ❤ I'm already manifesting 🥰
I am kind of backwards with how I have gone about poker. I have studied a ton the last 3 years with barely any playing. Only live tournaments, no online or cash. I am going to start focusing on some live cash. My basic question with cash is what is the standard when it comes to tipping in live cash games. I rarely hear it mentioned. But I want to make sure I am not over doing it or under doing it.
I wish i could play in wsop someday. You are my day to day good vibes. I love seeing you both playing poker. Ignore those haters. Goodluck and Godbless u lexi ❤ go go🎉
Can you elaborate on your come up? Did you have money in college? Did you grind up from online micro? How are you playing big enough stakes in college to just quit school?
I didn’t have money in college and I finished school… just not law school. I earned in online tournaments and cash games. Then by commentating, coaching and hosting poker night in America among other poker related stuff. 😊
These are great tips and everyone should be watching this!! You’re such a great teacher and explains everything so well..thank you for sharing and showing us the correct way to be a better poker player!!
my name is gari i have 35K kids- i saw my kids doing well- i was also improving- i wanted to visit w cards- BUT- the thief cops around me would not let me- online> they let me play until i get deep and then i get transferred to another table what robs me with "random anything what beats gary"- one time the cops were trying to communicate to me that i should not bother> in a tournament with thousands of entries i was transferred to a table that had 3 of the ten biggest chip stax at the time- i had 3 players at my table with ten times more chips than me- BUT- how did we get 3 of the biggest chip stax at one table?- (ok michael phelps is another- i have lots of kids- i beat the world's record for a mile many times- i have kids from 5 years old> remember the movie "national velvet"?- i wasnt even born yet but elizabeth taylor had a horse named "the pie" what just jumped beecher's brook- this little kid was supposed to run fast- fukking freaky- i notice carl lewis has same body type as me- once again i say dad is five years old- michael jordan magic johnson eric dickerson tom brady john elway most of the nba) i treat poker tournaments like an athletic competition- i rest up before- my poker book says if i follow the instructions i can win- ...uh... ...duh... we may be slow but we stupid
I have watched your RU-vids for a while now and would like to ask you a very personal question: do you still consider yourself profitable if you take away your other incomes such as RU-vid revenues, training site, and sponsorships. I just really want to know how much ROI to expect if I just study well and play the game with proper bankroll management. Thank you and I look forward to your response.
Yes I am profitable :) mostly cash games, I have a consistent win rate of about 70% Live tournaments are very high variance as you know and I am profitable but the last two World Series I have been negative which is very standard For a short sample size of 7 weeks
There is no way I'll ever be a pro, but still nice to dream about it. My card runs now are so dead. My all-in rockets losing to a calling station of K-4 off when they flopped 2 pair. Stuff like that.
Based on your experience, do u feel playing cash games is an essential necessity to be a profitable tournament player? I gave up cash a long time ago to play tournaments exclusively. I've won/cashed at about a 20-28% rate in the lower stakes. But when I do play the higher buy-in tournaments, it's definitely a different animal. I'm noticing in the later stages of those tournaments that I fare much better against the casual cash game players, but in the early stages I struggle against them. I'm noticing they tend to struggle playing short-stacked. It's getting past those first 10-15 levels of blinds is what's tough. Didn't know if having more cash game "experience" may help with that or not. I gave up cash because it tended to make me play too loose in tournaments.
I see a lot of wsop vlogs where players are staying in the hotel for the entire wsop series and playing in almost all the tournaments. Are they using their money from past winnings or most of top pros have sponsors that provide backing for them?
Ego is the downfall of most players they assume they're just running bad but really they're calling 5-bet shoves with A9 Like Jeff Boski did in his latest vlog 2 days ago. Then calls me a nit when I point out thats a massive punt.. Ive won the 10 superstack yesterday and just won 21 bounty hunter an hour ago hhaahah. lmao he should be taking lessons. Let him know if u see him.
Great content I am very interested in making the move soon to pro. I did pretty decent in a few tournaments last year for about 60K not counting cash games. I love the game and enjoy every moment of playing.
Video confirms majority of advices my friends have given me who are grinders, dealers, and a pro. I approve of this video and I hope lot of people watch this as these are real legit advices. While I feel privileged i have friends who taught me these in details, you have put these valuable advices to the public so everyone can learn. My friends acquired some of these advices the hard way. They educate me that I should never go through their past route to learn. Im told that I can learn from watching others' mistakes. But why is it that I feel that certain things need to be experienced than just being verbally taught. I feel tilt and frustration control is one of them. Watching u play every day with ur husband like its a fun entertainment, helps my mind to view poker in a positive manner while lowering my entitlement of results. Humor u add of how u fired A, B, and C because they didnt work out for u, I should start doing that. 😁
One thing I struggle with that you didn’t mention is how to balance a relationship and poker? You’re dating a poker player so it’s easy for you but most women don’t play poker.
Bummed no tourney vlog today, but great timing to remind and digest these important tips as I fly out there tomorrow for an 8-day full grind. Hope to run into you! 🤙
I am torn on that one mike. I just went through having someone raise UTG and call a 3 bet that showed up with 52 off and hit a full house with it. Thats how my WSOP ended lol. But at the same time, we want these players to be playing. Just have to play enough volume for these stupid beats to average out.
If you have any other way of making good money other than Poker, I would always suggest a person not play poker for a living and stick to your chosen profession. If you are an absolute Crusher and you have Multiple Great games to play in and you have amassed a LARGE Bankroll, then that is a little different. But Poker for a living, when you have No Safety Net (A working or wealthy spouse, wealthy or supportive parents, Trust fund) is an incredibly stressful way to make a living. It's not easy. It's not as fun as people might think.
@@LexyGavinPokerdo you have a backer? I know you are married but how would your life look like if you were alone? Would you need another job? Zero content and coaching just strictly your pots
What’s to study? Gambling on what possible cards come up? Luck of the cards. You think you’re a Pro. Come play me. If I get the cards, you got no chance. I can read people so well. Yes, why don’t I play? Freaking to impatient I am. lol, skill and strategy. Awe, no. All about the CARDS that come up.
@pacohealy2998 Lexy was a pro long before she ever met Bob. She made a lot of her money in cash games. Know what you are talking about before posting such a comment!
all those hot shot celeb pro poker players- dont scare me- if u get a chance to play against them u find out- they actually play like how u see them on tv> i mean> they really are that dum- do like the book says- u should always play pot odds
YES YES YES IT'S #moreBOB time and #queenofpoker @lexygavinmather can be a part of the fun also as #professorLexy! In all seriousness, thank you so very much for the lesson today. Your generosity is a blessing. Its incredible how the way you live your life in general translates into life as a pro and vice versa. Who and how you are away and off the table matters and affect your poker & the other way around!
