It's This Old Outboard. Trying to get the 55 hp Evinrude Outboard setup to Test Run on the Starcraft. I need to use a Remote Control with a Big Red Plug. I was able to repair the one Sean sent me in the parts lot. Evinrude Starter Motor is giving me problems again, enough to drive ya crazy!

For all your troubles you are so lucky to have the amount of 2nd hand outboards & parts available in the States. In Australia we have next to nothing. I gave the 1975 25hp a miss because it was just missing too much. But I just finished a full rebuild on a 2000 15hp, it's friggin mint man! Hanging out for another project badly now watching your uploads ......

I usually spin backwards myself until I’ve had a few cups of coffee. That straightens me out. Lol. Anyhoo, that was nuts with the starter. I had no idea that you could even make them run in reverse. Good job figuring it out. Hey, it’s the real life saga after all!

Hey thanks for another great video. I picked up a freshwater 1992 Johnson 60 that “ran when they took it off two to five years ago” it prob didn't but $500 with the wrong controls...😂 I have her going pretty well after doing your rewiring and the 2-2 3/4 air screw setting from I think you and manual . Thanks always good stuff. Trying to prop her on my 1969 Starcraft 15’ sprint V. Seems like 16 pitch would be best as 14 and 15 revving to high and hole shotting too hard and 17 pitch seems like big jump? not a common size. What are prop are u running? Also do u think the “cupped on the back”props from factory were just a gimmick? Thanks again I’ll do what I can to help out when I can my friend.

Have you propped any 40hp. I’m looking for a Stainless Steel prop for a 2002 40hp Johnson that’s on a 14’ Campagna skiff, it’s a flat bottom fiberglass skiff, hull weight is probably around 800lbs. Any info would be appreciated, I’d love to find what would work best for this little skiff, I have 2 aluminum props right now, to be honest, I haven’t looked at them to see size and pitch. I was lucky enough to get a manual with this setup, so I guess I can look in it to see recommended size and pitch.
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 года назад
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Glad you got it running. Its got the standard prop on it. I think a 13 3/4 x 19 pitch, I was thinking the 17 would be the way to go with a smaller diameter. I think the cupping was for water and/or exhaust flow, something like that.? let me know what happens with the 16. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

this question is out of place, but what is a reliable brand of compression tester for old 2 stroke outboard motor. I was going to buy one off amazon but some get mixed reviews. I borrowed one from oreilys and it was getting good compression but was bleeding off. So i dont know if it is the motor or the tester that everybody and their brother has used. im sure the orings can go bad and they dont seal properly

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. The one I have was givin to me. No clue what brand it is. I had one from Harbor Freight that didn't last very long. I think nappa has a good one. I guess try searching the forums like iboats.com. I think they even sell them too. Sorry I wasn't much help. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

wow that's worse than my 90 deg block v4. i use to think it was the angle of the fuel passage into the cyln that was the culprit of hardstarting but that 70 is a straight inline block & still hardstart. maybe condensation in the carb bowls. try some fuel stabilizer.

@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 @THIS OLD OUTBOARD kool. if am in doubt of a part i normally dont cause myself grief trying to fix it, just get used ones off ebay. always good to have spare. But if i was retired & had time to take stuff apart then i guess it anit that bad. Now with this mandate covax has me contemplating early retirement since i've realize ppl who do & live frugally enjoy life better than those only live few years after retirement & now with some ppl having severe side effects from vaccine its even lessening longevity.

@@fishawk90 hey yeah I've been buying all my parts 99% of my parts on eBay and that part is unavailable. There was a guy who had four of them brand new on eBay couple of weeks ago and they sold like hotcakes. But they'll come up every once in a blue moon. And I'm not retired oh, I've been working my ass off all week and have a bad back to prove it! Hahaha got to pay the bills like everybody else. I guess you can say I'm semi-retired from time to time. But I'll probably never stop working! Thanks again.

Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah, there are a number of possibilities for a bogging situation. Best to get an OMC manual specific to your year and model. Check out the troubleshooting section on bogging and you'll see what I mean. Try ebay for a good used manual. If your like me and Mike B. then start with the basics and clean those carbs! Check out my carb cleaning video if need be. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-401zCRctu1c.html. Go through the entire fuel system from the tank back, could just have an air leak somewhere. Once your convinced the fuel system is perfect then you can eliminate it and move on to ignition/timing. Thats when a manual comes in handy. And never assume anything, just cause it "looks good" don't mean it is. Hahaha. We all do it! That 87 70 hp that I worked on for the old man here did the same thing but it wasn't fuel or ignition. I had that thing running great, it was a rocket on that little bass boat. Then the gearcase blew out and the motor overheated. We picked up another gearcase for it and new pump/impeller in. When I swapped them out I didn't swap the props right away, the new gearcase had a huge prop on it. Well long story short, It would run out fine on a first run, second run would bog. It drove me crazy! I went through everything over and over and couldn't figure it out. Compression was still good. Then one day my buddy Captain Mark said, swap that big prop out for the other one that was on it. Well I didn't think it was gonna do any different but I said I'll try anything at this point. And BOOM! She ran back to normal. Once that thing warmed up it did not want to push that big prop. I would have never guessed something like that was possible. It's all in my videos. So like I said. Never assume anything with these things. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

What do you adjust to get the cold start to kick off faster?
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 года назад
Hey. Thanks for tuning in! Should start a cold motor with the fast start lever on the control so it can warm up. Some motors wont start at all without the fast start lever. All the lever does is opens up the carbs a little to a fast idle. Allowing it to warm up quicker. Once it's warmed up, return the lever back to normal idle position and it should be good to go! It's similar to holding your foot on the gas pedal while the car is in park. Thanks again & Stay tuned !

I have a 2002 40hp Johnson, bottom fin (below the prop) is bent, what would be the best method to straighten that out? Looking for an older model Stainless Steel PROP for same outboard, if anyone knows of or has a prop that can be reworked, please let me know!
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1
@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 3 года назад
Hey. Wow not sure about that, Maybe Kodibass has some ideas for it. I would think you might be able to heat it up and gently try and tap it back, but, if you smack it to hard it could break off. It's just pot metal. I've had a couple of old outboards that were bent but I just left them alone. Thanks again for tuning in!
@blackmouthcur6097
@blackmouthcur6097 3 года назад
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 thanks for the reply. I was thinking of a vertical wooden vise, tighten it as I heated the area that needs to be moved, I’m thinking that might be less stress on that area. Just thought you might have a different idea on what you did in the past. I know you have had your share of outboards and figured you’ve had to deal with that issue. Thanks again.
