eVo MFG ProTek Skid System - amzn.to/2KPfWSo
A Good skid system is really important if you are going to do any mild to serious wheeling. The Jeep Wrangler JK’s all come with skid plates. They are designed to be taken off road. However, Jeep didn’t give you the best of skid systems if you really want to do some rock krawling.
So looking around we found that the eVo MFG Protek Skid System is affordable at $399, weighs only about 57 lbs extra from what your current skid plates are and provides all the protection needed from oil pan to transfer case.

Fits all year JKs. The 3/16” Steel Skid Protects Exhaust Crossover and the exhaust loop on 2012+ JKs, Protects the expensive to replace factory transmission cross-member or can be used with
EVO-1144 / EVO-1145 HD Crossmember, 100% Bolt On with factory and supplied hardware. Works on both Manual and Automatic JKs Powder coated Black. Compatible with EVO Long Arm Suspensions.
First and foremost; this install requires that you get under the jeep. Please take safety very seriously here and do everything you can to keep the jeep from moving. It is highly recommended that you put it in 4-wheel drive, lock the E Brake and put chocks behind the tires. It is not required to lift the jeep but is helpful. If you do lift, make sure that your setting it on jack stands that can withstand the weight of the jeep.
While doing the install we found that the oil pan and transfer case skid plates are super easy; especially if you have a air wrench like we do. The hardest part is the bolts to the transmission skid plate which might be one of the most important due to the exposed transmission cooling line. To get to these bolts; it requires a wrench that is the correct length and some muscle. Jeep doesn’t want the transfer case coming off the plate, so they are on extremely tight. It took us several hours of attempts but going into it now knowing what we did and prepared; I don’t think it would be so hard. The problem was being that not many people have done this section of the skid plate so we were fully going off what eVo provided and unfortunately this is where the instructions need some help.
After we got the nuts off; just slide the plate through the transfer case plate and set the transmission skid plate on top of the threads then put the bolts back on that you just spent hours trying to get off. Evo MFG provides all the required nuts and bolts.

Thanks for the details - Good to know about those 2 tough to reach bolts on top.

Long term update? How did they hold up?

Could you have installed that transmission skid without removing that factory cross bar or would it have been in the way? Reason I ask is because I have LOD sliders on my jeep and that factory bar that sits under the transmission is bolted between the frame and the tabs of the sliders. I can't use EVO's exhaust loop crossmember skid because of my sliders. I just have the oil pan and transmission skid. The oil pan skid is installed but I have been putting off that transmission skid for a bit now.

Buy some power tools. This is painful to watch.

Hey Robert! What size bolt is the hardest bolts to loosen? It doesn’t say on the installation guide. Help me out?

what about the gas tank?

Thank you for the comment - This system does not cover the gas tank and it has taken a major beating. You can add a piece for the gas tank and I highly recommend it. The gas tank sits below everything else so we have fallen down on a few rocks that have beat it up pretty good.
